Originally, this post had part 1 of the episode "Our America With Lisa Ling - Modern Polygamy.
The episode was split into 3 parts, which since have been taken down.
However, I have found the video in another place so I will be putting it up in a new post.
It is very interesting; the precedent to POLYGAMY USA, even to the point of hearing Arthur's crusty mantra - "Take it or leave it, we don't care!"
If you would like to see this episode, check May 2013 posts.
Thank you!

If you listen carefully, even though they are trying to whitewash it - you hear "God like" Superior way of living.
ReplyDeleteThey do believe they are superior to us Christians.
RE: The end of Part One:
ReplyDelete"OOoooh! WHoa! MAN!!!!"
RE: The man who has a crayon drawing of his master plan to gain God and Goddess level in Paradise by marrying 7 wives and having LOTS of children...
"But if you work at it EVERY day."
- We all know what HE is working at "EVERY day." -
Saw the show on Oprah's net., there was a rumor the Browns were going to be on it, but... Interesting, but very one sided. The drawing, by the man who wanted many wives-wasn't it great! An 18 yo using STICK FIGURES! Lisa Linq does not cover the cult like communities, and never touches on Bankruptcy, Welfare, and other Gov't services that Poly families use.
ReplyDeleteAlso, again, no one says how they either end up with outside women or what happens to all the men-are they told to leave if they do not have women pick them, leaving them without the req. wives or even ONE WIFE-to get into their heaven?
ReplyDeleteSorry. I do NOT see the laws changing to include Polygamous families. MAYBE it won't be against the law, but they will NOT be able to claim ALL their wives and children as dependents on their tax forms.
ReplyDeleteI mean WHAT do they REALLY intend to accomplish with this? Make plural marriage legal, so all of us committed to monogamous marriage have to accept it when our spouse cheats on us and takes on other wives?
Talk about trying to change our American heritage. If they succeed in changing the laws WHAT will "our" America look like? I can almost guarantee it will NOT look like a country full of godly people. Hear me out... If they succeed in changing the laws, will there be more Mormons, more Christians taking advantage of the new plural marriage "freedoms" or will there be more just plain taking advantage of it causing chaos in the fabric of what we once knew as America?
(Oh and I watched Part 2 and 3.)
Glad The Warriors won the game and can play in the regionals with confidence. But that's about it. I thought it was gross that the girl married her math teacher? I don't get it. I thought the bible said, Do not covet your neighbor's wife. Does that only apply to men? So it is perfectly OK for a 10 year old girl to covet her neighbor's husband?
This is so not god's plan!
ReplyDeleteEven Polygamists can't decide what the rules are! Men Pick, women pick, they just do what they want!
ReplyDeleteLuna...they use no more welfare than every other American group. Get over it.
ReplyDeleteI also think Lisa Ling left out some key elements of this "lifestyle." As with the Browns, it was obvious that everything isn't coming up roses. The guy with the dark hair (in a reddish shirt, if I remember correctly) gave me the creeps, and the wives weren't much better. I couldn't help but be annoyed at the girls playing basketball in skirts, and confess I was hoping for the other team to win.
ReplyDeleteThis whole god and goddess thing is just bizarre. Part of the deal, as I understand it, is that their children are supposed to inhabit their planet. Did it occur to them that their children would grow up, marry, go on to get their own planets and so on? They could theoretically wind up for eternity with only themselves to inhabit a big 'ol planet!
anon 4:11---they do in fact use welfare more than regular joes. It has been documented and reported by various members and just state records.
ReplyDeleteThey most certainly do! Check your records!
ReplyDeleteI do think that if you have a dozen or more kids you should support them not let the state, we have 5 kids and my hub and me work we have a law student freshman soph, junior in college and a 8th grader, it's hard work we expect our kids to work hard, we work hard no state support, but this life style puts you in a hole you can't get out of.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one who saw Mariah lined up with the basketball team? In the first minute or two of the clip.
ReplyDeleteOk cancel that, its a Mariah look a like. Possibly a cousin?
ReplyDeleteThey all kind of have that bland look. This is a totally different sect. The Centennial Group.
ReplyDeleteI believe their was a piece on them this summer, too.
I understand that its a different group but most are inter-related at some point. I would like to see someone investigate the Kingston Group. They are the craziest of them all!
ReplyDeleteJoanne, thank you for the video, it's a HOOT!
ReplyDeleteWe will have to delve into the Kingstons during off season. We've done the FLDS, so on to bigger and weirder groups!
Perhaps that young couple can replace the Browns on our tv screen :)
ReplyDeletethis Centennial sect is just down the road from the FLDS compound. The centennial sect was started by a group of disgruntled FLDS and has evolved from there. basically the same beliefs except a notch higher than FLDS and no child brides and no warren jeffs.
