There was some discussion back about whether Meri lost her job or lost a promotion. I found this, which states she LOST her job. Can anyone point me to where she says she lost a promotion? We should start a log. Truth or Lie. I thought she had lost her job, so far this is a Truth. If we find where she says she lost a promotion, we'll change it.
I see no reason for her to get fired. Couldn't that be another lawsuit? Her face looks terrible in this. If fired, shouldn't she be able to collect unemployment? What reason could they have for firing her? Mister Sister always tries to find answers for you!

Meri was fired and heartbroken.
ReplyDeleteI was the one confused. On Oprah, she stated she was fired, but sometimes it was stated that she lost a job. The part that confused me was a phone conversation she had with Kody when he was either in Las Vegas with Christine or in San Diego with Robyn. It was also discussed on TWoP after the episode. Either way, she appreaded to be devastated. Thanks for straightening this out.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure- I remember her saying she lost a promotion. Mister Sister must of looked, but I will too.
ReplyDeleteOn what grounds would they have to fire her? I really don't get that being that they were in Utah. No real shocker there.
ReplyDeleteShe's got other jobs. TLC. How much do you think they pay? I say at least 250K a year. Queen Bee of the Browns. Picker of the women. She's doing just fine financially.
ReplyDeleteAt one point, I don't know if it was on an episode or on an interview, it was said that she was let go from her job (I don't know the exact words used as far as "fired", "let go" or what), the reason was not the polygamy but the attention from the show. It was alluded/implied that the anonymity of her agency's clients would be at risk due to the media attention. It was my understanding that she worked with some sort of agency/counseling center that provided some sort of counseling/mental health services.
ReplyDeleteI believe on the honeymoon episode she told Cody during the phone call that she did not get a promotion type job.
Bunsterj is correct - the counseling program told Meri that the media attention she was receiving put the confidentiality of the program's clients at risk - and therefore she was terminated. There was specific language in her contract which warned that an employee could be fired if it was determined that confidentiality was placed in jeopardy by the actions or behaviors of one of the counselors. I believe that an attempt was made to prove discrimination and it failed.
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely CAN discriminate against someone who is breaking the law and according to the suit that was filed, that is exactly why she was fired. There is NO constitutional protection for living a polygamous lifestyle. If she had been fired solely because she was a woman, then she would have a case. Personally, I think that she has mental problems and I would not want her counseling my child or anyone. Many other women agree with me.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't on the Honeymoon show, I watched it last night to help. Which show did Christine and Kody go to Vegas?

WELL, THAT EXPLAINS IT!! THANK YOU!
I guess she shouldn't have been working with children. Big no no. Sad, she was good at it.
ReplyDeleteShe had a little 8 dollar a hr job. PLEASE!
ReplyDeleteNow Meri knew better. She chose this lifestyle. She knows it's not legal. She needs to find work in a Mormon based help center.
ReplyDeleteOh, but yet, she has a job, an AUB "happy family" as annony. says, TLC, why work?
I'm so over this. Meri...
ReplyDeleteI think they went to Vegas in the 1st episode of the last season.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to add, as someone who does not have a job, I will take "a little 8 dollar a hr job," especially if it is full time with some benefits. I don't need medical insurance, dental would be nice, retirement...401K, etc., LTC and disability insurance.
ReplyDeleteI re-watched the Ep 3. It is confusing. She's talking about getting fired, and not getting a position at the same time..... you were right. I had to listen to it twice. she was up for a good position but they didn't choose her b/c of her religion. But, she back flashes to her being fired.
ReplyDeleteBunsterj. The legal papers that their lawyer Jonathon Turley recently filed, claim that the family has suffered job loss due to the threat of prosecution. From what you are saying, that is inaccurate, since the show itself drew attention to Meri and threatened the anonymity of her company's clients. Do you have a source for this information please? Thanks
ReplyDeleteThat was season 2 ep 5, you can type in Sister.wives. S02E05 and find places to watch it. i watched it last night.
ReplyDeleteAnd, this clip said it was because they went public.

ReplyDeleteyou can review all the shows- you have to open up a couple, but they work!
Here is the transcript of the conversation between Meri and Kody, S02 E05 (He and Christine are in Las Vegas) Talking on the phone to Meri is Kody. They flash back and forth between them, and she looks like this first clip above was taken from that, too. The implication is going public did it.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 E05
In the opening, MERI says, “ I just have sister wives, and I get fired for it”
KODY: “So you didn’t get that position?” “Alright, tell me about that?”
MERI: “When KODY called me that day, I had to break the news to him that I had been declined for this position that I had applied for. I’d been looking for awhile, since I’d been let go of work from my other job”
KODY “They thought you were one of the best…wow”
MERI “I had this great job, that I loved, that I was good at, abt. The time we went to NY and we became PUBLIC, because of that, Mgmt. pulled me into the office and said they were going to release me from m position at work, and basically fired me.” “I was extremely shocked, it was a serious blow, it surprised me.”
KODY: “My mind is running, it’s running a million miles an hour, it’s telling me , thiingking about all the decisions that’s got to be made.” (KODY is looking over Lake Las Vegas, on vacation with Christine, mind you, that Vegas thing coming in again)
MERI: “Because of my lifestyle, they are letting me go” “Really? Laughing” “I want to work with at risk kids, I just really do, and since now I am such a PUBLIC figure, it’s gonna inhibit my chances, of finding work in that field. “
KODY : I’m looking over Henderson Nevada, how beautiful blah blah. (I call this setup)
MERI: “I’m not a bad person, I’ve just got sister wives and I get fired for it. It pisses me off, god. This is why polygamists hide who they are. If I had gone on hiding who I was, I would have kept that job the rest of my life. “

ReplyDeletewas right!
I'm thinking in an off show interview...Oprah perhaps, she specifically said she lost her job after going public because her employers felt that the attention from the media (I was thinking camera crews, not necessarily TLC's in the parking lot) could compromise the privacy of their clients(paraphrased).Could have been in any rag I picked up in the check-out line though.
ReplyDeleteCould you imagine going with your "at risk" teen for some family counseling over a sensitive issue, and there is a paparazzi crew in the parking lot of the center you go to watching the comings and goings of the "sister wives"?
