AUB at the St. George TOWN HALL meeting/Polygamy summit 5-8-08. The groups that attended want or expect the state to decriminalize polygamy.

Introductions from the AUB at the St. George TOWN HALL meeting/Polygamy summit on 5-8-08. The groups that attended want or expect the state to decriminalize polygamy.
And shock, shock, there sits Christine! Sorry, video/audio not great, but a MUST SEE.
Christine also says that her mother LEFT the AUB. Just a snippit but worth seeing. We are learning that Christine has been very vocal and political for a long time.

  1. Sadly, I think I would get out if my Uncle had killed my father in law. She knew too much to stay in. I feel for her, I really do.

  2. One of the tv sites some people have videos of christine posted and in one of them she is saying she wants their family to be the test family for the polygamy laws and said to bring it on as far as a Utah lawsuit then on the show she acts all fearful of the law. They had this agenda for a long time and laid a plan to bring it into action. I don't feel sorry for them. They run a well oil machine.

  3. Yes, that's way down below, under Christine "pre Sister Wives" very interesting.

  4. Anne Wilder- she sure pops up a lot. She is in cahoots with Christine. I'm not sure Kody or the other women realize her full agenda. This will destroy this family, and keep the kids upset. Good Going, Kody.

  5. Her name is Anne Wilde, not Anne Wilder. She is the co - president of Principle Voices, an organization of Mormon fundamentalist plural wives who speak out in favor of "The Principle of Plural Marriage". The goal of "Principle Voices" is to portray polygamy as something liberating and desirable for women. Anne Wilde is the former plural wife of Ogden Kraut, a now deceased Mormon fundamentalist who published a lot of books claiming that Jesus was a polygamist with four wives - he co-authored these books with Anne Wilde, who was his second wife.
Anne Wilde was a mainstream LDS woman who got divorced and was without new marital prospects. She wanted a "priesthood holder" (man) to call her "through the veil" into the Celestial Kingdom after death, so it was very important for her to get re-married. She began to read about Mormon fundamentalism, and she met and fell in love with Ogden Kraut, who was already married. Anne soon became the favorite or dominant wife of Mr. Kraut, and Kraut's first wife left him. Anne's a real hypocrite - when an elderly widow approached Ogden Kraut and asked him to marry her solely for his "priesthood services" to ensure her "salvation," Anne pitched a fit. The other co - president of Principle Voices is Mary Batchelor, Mormon fundamentalist who entered a polygamous marriage as a second wife of Gary Batchelor. Within about three years of Mary entering the Batchelor marriage, the first wife left the marriage and Gary Batchelor has not married another woman in over 20 years. Mary has been a monogamist for over 20 years with Gary, but she runs an organization which advocates for polygamy and decriminalization.
So "Principle Voices" is run by second wives who drove their husband's first wives right out of their marriage and they ended up monogamists, but they have the audacity to tell us how wonderful polygamy is. Hypocrite much ???

  6. That Anne Wilde sure is something!

I can't see this passing without something being put into place for other aspects of marriage - like property and child custody. All it takes is for one wife to flee and complain. Then how will the courts handle it? I can imagine a custody case with a husband and all his wives fighting for custody against one wife that wants to leave. Polygamy will have the weirdest pre nups of all and at best can be worked out akin to business laws.

  7. What about migrants from other countries - won't the courts have to know a little something about all religious forms of polygamy to make a decision?

  8. Correct. Moslem polygamy is more common than Mormon polygamy in the US.

  9. Do you think Christine will show momma on the show? NO

  10. Ask Christine how welcome her father, Vance Allred is to AUB functions. He was very vocal after he left, about his disagreements with the AUB.

  11. I really don't like to be too personal, but when people promote things, they should be honest. Ann Wilde may tout the idea that polygamy is "beautiful" but her plural arrangement was definitely not, with a lot of stress and strife between wives, and a lot of Ann and Ogden's trips together, hidden to try to keep the peace.

  14. That is so true. I hear it in the show. Woo hoo, no man around, wait, I'm jealous my man's not around. What a sad life to me.

  15. Hi Marc,

Thank you for “speaking” with us and God bless you in your battle with alcohol and loss of a child. We have these same battles and sorrows in my family, too --my prayers are with you.

As Mister Sister said, we do love Meri. She seems to have such a fun way about her and a goofy sense of humour, the type of person a lot of us would like to have as a friend. That is why so many of us became concerned when the show seemed to depict her as having issues about plural marriage to work through and some of us felt she should be better supported by her husband. As you know better than we do, TV shows are edited so we don’t know how much of the whole story we see. I think that is why there is so much “guesswork” going on. Perhaps we should all ask TLC why they edit things the way they do.

Many of us have similarly protective feelings about the Brown children. It upset us to see them so hurt by the move to Las Vegas that we felt was poorly handled by the adults.

Most of us knew nothing, or next to nothing, about either the LDS or fundamentalist groups such as the AUB, FLDS, Kingston Group (or Davis County Co-Op), etc., until Sister Wives aired and we started researching the faith(s). We were confused and troubled by what we learned and felt that the information should be shared.

One thing that we probably will have to agree to disagree on, though, is the financial issue. In these tough economic times, people don’t like to see what looks like financial funny business. You have to admit that 3 bankruptcies in the same family based primarily on credit card debt doesn’t look good (we’ve seen the bankruptcy paperwork). It just looks like the Browns don't want to live within their means; both my husband and I grew up poor and I mean REALLY poor (poorer than the Browns) so I know it is possible to be poor, pay your bills and not need bankruptcy protection. It is difficult for us to understand why certain things were done in certain ways that give the appearance of hiding assets, hiding facts, and avoiding debt. My dad always said that not only do you have to do right, but you also have to appear to do right because perception is reality to other people. And the perception on this issue is not good based on publicly available data and information.

I don’t have a brother. Always wanted one but it never happened. If I did have a brother I would want him to protect and defend me like you are doing with Meri. I hope she appreciates what a gem she has in you.

Good luck in school. I also did it as an adult. The rush of finally being finished is SO sweet and you appreciate it so much more than you ever could as a “youngster.”

    God bless.
