Exclusive! My Sisterwife's Closet Jewelry at Guilt! Pictures, Report! MSWC Jewelry, SWB

MSWC at Guilt
Nothing better than checking your mail and having lots of writing, goodies, and a special gifts! More of them to come soon. Thanks to ALL that are sending, writing, and sharing. That is what this blog was intended to be all about, and hope I get it back to our original roots!

"Anonymous and Daughter" has been to the shop, took pictures and shared with all of us. She saw my post hoping she'd go, and took me up on it. We thank her, and know you will enjoy her report/pictures.

Here's what she reported:

We spoke with two of the employees, who were very nice and hospitable to us. Hope, the GM, mentioned that the MSWC merchandise didn't come into the store until last week, and that TLC was there Fri. to film it. (Does that surprise you?)

*Note: Think you might of seen Hope on the show? Nope. The lady showing Kody and Krew around in the GUILT store was Kimiko Peterson, Director of Adv/Public Rel./ Social Media at the Silverton Hotel. Call that a grand tour!

She also said they may be have an in store meet and greet in the next couple of weeks.

**Hope also mentioned that the real reason SW jewelry was placed in The Guilt is because they already had a business relationship with Gina's ex-husband, Michael Wilson. The story about MSW doing business with Guilt due to the fact that nobody else wanted to wasn't true.  It was because there was already a business connection with Guilt.

Hope showed us the birthstone necklaces that he was currently marketing through The Guilt. She didn't say whether or not the pieces were moving or not, but they were getting lots of interest as a result of the show.

I asked Anonymous and Daughter, "So tell us about the store, and does the jewelry remind you of Claire's or some other store?"

The store was very similar to a gift shop version of a Claire's.  In fact, my daughter made the comment on the way home that it kind of reminded her of Claire's. Lots of "chochkies" and Las Vegas souvenirs, a candy counter, some bottles of liquor behind a locked case, travel hygiene area - razors, toothpaste, etc.  The store was pretty small, 20' X 20' at most and very crowded with lots of tables of stuff.  If you've never been into a casino gift shop, I would say it was similar to the gift shops at most airports.

At first, we had a hard time finding MSWC merchandise, but then saw it was displayed on the glass counter near the cash register in the center of the store.  The quality of the MSWC merchandise was just like something I would expect to see at Claire's.  It probably wouldn't turn your skin green, but definitely costume jewelry. It was big and clanky and trendy looking.  I prefer more understated and contemporary jewelry myself.

Hope mentioned was that they had negotiated to sell each piece for $1.00 less than what it is priced at on MSWC. She stated that the $1.00 less per piece was something that they negotiated with the Brown's.  We took it to mean she wanted to keep it within a certain price point to be comparable to the other items in the store.  Just want to clarify, they only carried the "budget line" and I think she said that the chain was $15.00 (not sure about the $ other pieces).  I know it's only a dollar, but for whatever reason, she felt like that was the price that would sell in the store.  One other thing that I thought was curious (and a personal pet peeve of mine) there were no prices on the pieces.  We had to ask if we wanted to know.

We want to say a huge thank you to "Anonymous and Daughter"" for this story and pics!  Exciting, yes~! Have questions for her? Ask below! She will be coming on and checking!

    4. I am super excited to see the Williams family. The Browns have just become boring. Story lines have no realivance to the family anymore just about their business. It reminds me of the Rachel Zoe show, used to love it, watching the styling process and design. But the last 2 seasons became a one hour informercial for the Rachel Zoe clothing line, pieces that no middle class person could afford to buy. After the second season of that, Bravo canceled her. I see that coming with the browns. The contrived story lines are not funny or heartwarming, just more dirty looks and eye rolls between the wives.

    2. Okay - this jewelry is not for me. But then all costume stuff is not for me. I think it is just a bit of fun for people to buy and wear for a season. Lots of people do that - that is what costume stuff is for. I don't see anything wrong with it.

      Delete
    3. Yes I agree it is cheap costume stuff. But I can remember back to the 60's when we wore great gobs of plastic earings for goodness sake! It wasn't serious, just fun and you had 10 pairs on your earring hanger on your dresser.

  5. Not my kind of jewelry at ALL (seriously? Who wears a charm saying BE HONEST and the like??) I do think they are getting the hang of this marketing stuff. However I personally appreciate goods to be priced when I am shopping. Unless it is something that really piques my interest I cannot be bothered to ask a sales clerk and face the whole spiel. Put prices on goods people!

    1. I have never seen their jewelry before. Honestly, it is not all that bad. It is about the same as other jewelry out there. I am not big into costume jewelry, I would rather buy good pieces with precious stones in gold or British silver and have a few good pieces that last forever. But - looking around shops that sell this kind of stuff - it is all about the same and falls in line with others.

Anon - maybe you and your daughter could give Sister Wives tours for those of us who want to come to Vegas. I've seen the outside of the "compound," and would definitely want to see the store the next time I'm there (late January).

If they're adding anything to the BE line in the future, maybe they could include BE Frugal. That's something we've not seen from them yet.

  14. Those things are Ginormous. That is the first view I've seen where the scale was obvious. Also, it is so obvious that the charm holder is not scaled the same way as as the charms. Don't count this out. They are selling it online and in this store. Claire's make a killing off of their China made jewelry. Even with their big sales (back then, 2 for a dollar earrings) They make all but 2cents of the 50.

    I have 2 questions:
How did it compare are far as it looked to the other costume jewelry being sold in the store?

Was the GM somewhat amazed how it was portrayed that they came after the Browns to sell their stuff, as Kody said, when it was actually Michael Wilson doing the bidding?

It needs to be said. GREAT sleuth work, great questions asked, job well done! I hope you go to other event and watch and listen! And get a picture with kody!!

    1. Anonymous and Daughter here,

I really didn't notice much other jewelry in the store (too preoccupied by MSWC I guess - LOL). I did see the necklace and charms from Michael Wilson and, to be honest, I thought it was very pretty and tastefully done. It was a silver chain that birthstone charms float on. The charms were about the size of a baby ring with the month's birthstone all the way around the outside. It would be a great gift for a new mom so they could add the different "birthstone rings" to it as they have more children. Much classier than what I saw from MSWC and, likely, a much more treasured keepsake.

Regarding the spin on how the jewelry ended up in Guilt,I overheard Hope tell a caller on the phone that she didn't handle the merchandising for the store. I'm not really sure how much she knew about the negotiations before the merchandise ended up in the store.

For the most part, Hope had very positive things to say about the Browns and seemed to like them. She did say that the jewelry was Robyn's "baby" and that Mary handled all the shipping for the business. She also said Janelle was really quiet and didn't say much to her. She implied she wasn't very friendly, but I think that's probably pretty accurate to the more subdued personality of Janelle when more dominant Robyn and Meri are around and overshadow her. Christine didn't come so she had nothing to add about her.

    2. I'm guessing this is the silver chain and birthstone charms referred to - they are on the Hardbody Bling website (Sean the trainer's jooooolry line). It says it is Rhodium plated.

      http://www.hardbodybling.com/Rhodium_Plated_Birthstone_Eternity_Charms_p/fash-bs-rhd.htm

I looked up Rhodium plated and it is very expensive, although you can put very thin layers on. http://www.sherichseashells.com/jewelry-facts/what-is-rhodium-and-rhodium-plating-jewelry

The birthstone necklace seems to be selling for $15 on Sean's website.

    4. I was searching the hardbody jooooolry site to see if they were using similar long dongles, as they have been so aptly described, for their jooolry too- and ran across the birthstone charms you had mentioned. 23. The first rule of retail marketing is to price your jewelry. One of my BFFS and I worked for the same company but managed different stores in the chain. She was of the mindset that you put the price tag on the bag of the merchandise so that the customers would have to pick it up in order to see what it cost. I disagreed (because I listened to my employees and my customers) and priced ours on the front of the packaging. Either way, you always put a price sticker on the merchandise. Unless you're a super-ritchie ritch boutique with the "If you have to ask, you can't afford it" mindset. Which may be what the Browns and Guilt are going for. Who knows?

Agreed! Love that the verification doohickey is gone!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That really is dumb on their part because when I'm out shopping and happen upon something that doesn't have the price displayed, I figure it is going to be too expensive and move on.

      Delete
    2. Maybe the did not put the prices on it so they could change the prices depending on the retailer. It drives me nuts when I can't see a visible price when shopping.

  24. You know, now that I see how huge these are--it just occurred to me--pewter is soooooo heavy. They must weigh a ton. The fact that they call this a "values" line also demonstrates their shallowness. Since when are "amazing" and "glamorous" considered personal "values"?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks so much for taking pictures. I would never get to see them otherwise. Love it. Love the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  26. BTW The worst thing about the MSWC website is the item description style. The same statement is cut and pasted over and over, with the "values" filled in in all caps. IDIOTS! Finally, the most irritating thing of all. . . FUN is a noun! It should NEVER be used as an adjective! I am no grammar Nazi--though I am a comparative linguist and English teacher--but that is my biggest peeve--especially when people say "very fun". Martha Stuart is a big offender on that one, incidentally. Sorry that was a little rambly. :)

Not at all like they are shown on the MSWC web site, where they are obviously laid flat and spread out. Not that I would be interested anyway, but I don't think the necklace with three charms displayed on the black model is an asset. Without it, people might actually buy one necklace and several charms, and not realize how ugly they look together until after they were out of the shop. It looks to me like a lot of money invested in things that aren't going to sell. I can't imagine that they won't lose money on these. THANKS to anonymous and daughter for the pix and information! Observation about the "paw" logo. Hmmmm.... me thinks that it was designed with "expansion" in mind... With the mere addition of a fifth finger (for the fifth wife they know he's gonna want) they can keep the same logo with just a minor alteration.

Anybody else notice Rob-bling is the only one in the store display poster wearing a stand-out vivid color? But, then again, this is her brainchild (right... like this wasn't an idea via Sean/Gina from the get-go) So they'd want to make her the "star".

This whole joooolry business now seems totally driven by outside forces. They just gave Rob-bling the "job" of owning the business to make it look like she was doing something constructive.

Christine/Janelle were pursuing the RE, Meri does the green goo with Kodster and Rob-bling needed something to do from home while she pops out the young royal heirs.

Still have trouble imagining any other stores wanting to carry their line just because of them. Anyway, once My Five Wives takes center stage the Klowns are gonna BE SORRY... hey... there's another charm idea.

  35. Wow, those charms look so much bigger, cheaper (and heavier) than I thought, and they totally overpower the dinky little BE thing. I also just realized the word BE is in all caps, which is like YELLING. BE AMAZING! Dammit! LOL.

Their stuff looks like it's made by a mom and pop home business, which I guess it is, only it's Mom and Mom and Mom and Mom and Pop and a couple of Marketing People and oh, yeah, the "manufacturer," who is probably a factory in China or something. I know they say it's made in the USA, but I think they mean their distributor (Gina and her business) is in the USA. I think the Browns get confused with terms like wholesale and manufacturer (probably in part due to their experience with MLMs.) I also have a feeling other people are making more money from this My Sisterwife's Closet business than the Browns are. ;)

And for those plyg guys who wear jammie bottoms with pull cords at the waist - they can market little round charm holders (like the kind for wine glasses so you can tell one person's wine glass from another). Each wife could have her own symbol on her charm, or simply numbers 1 through 4. One of the wifely duties could be to attach her charm and remove it at the beginning and end of his visit.

When you're making that many trips around the cookie jar you can forget who you're with...

Under 21's can be in the building but must not stop or loiter in any gaming areas. Kids are allowed on the edges of the gaming area and at the Silverton there are a few "kid friendly" restaurants on the edge. In addition,Bass Pro Shop is attached to the casino right on the other side of the giant aqauarium where you can watch fish and mermaids!. The store is very kid and family friendly. It has events for kids all the time and they allow local groups to sell hot dogs, etc out front.

  38. The "be" gimmick is a ripoff from mainstream Mormons. We know they do that already. A few years ago the President of the LDS church gave a speech with the 5"bees". Be humble, be grateful, etc. etc. it was a huge hit among the members. Everyone had the "5 bees" on a sign somewhere in their homes. They used it for youth lessons, pencils, bookmarks, you name ithttps://www.google.com/search?q=gordon+b+hinckley+b's&client=safari&hl=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=qvMyUvCZGcfb7Aau2oCwBg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAA&biw=1024&bih=672&dpr=1#biv=i%7C1%3Bd%7Co9aiNB9uJxA4nM%3A

  40. Interesting, Anonymous 7:17.So it's a knock-off - trying to cash in on something already done. Wowza. Well, Utah is called "The Beehive State". An article in Salt Lake Magazine describes the significance of bees and beeives in Mormonism. http://saltlakemagazine.com/blog/2010/07/14/behind-the-beehive/

    Quote from the article:

"On October 11, 1881 an article in the Deseret News explained the symbolism: "The hive and honey bees form our communal coat of arms. ... It is a significant representation of the industry, harmony, order and frugality of the people, and of the sweet results of their toil, union and intelligent cooperation."

The article goes on to say, "Of course, you can't go too far with the etymological comparison or you raise awkward implications. What about drones? What about the queen bee? The meaning of the beehive shifted a little as Brigham Young's Deseret became a territory, then a state," says Staker. "It lost some of its religious connections but the community connotations continued." The beehive still serves as the logo of some Church-related organizations, but it's come to symbolize the whole state of Utah."

Can't find it myself, but would love to see somebody post something about the 5 bee marketing efforts of the church - ie photos of their materials about it.

  41. I found reference to the "Be"s mentioned in the famous speech I think Anonymous 7:17 a.m. is referring to. It was given in Nov. 2000 by LDS prophet/president Gordon B. Hinkley to youth and young single adults given in Salt Lake City and broadcast by Satellite to the wider church body. (Link for those inclined to read more) http://www.lds.org/ensign/2001/01/a-prophets-counsel-and-prayer-for-youth?lang=eng

It's impossible for me to snark about these very worthy "Be" statements. I'm not LDS but they are great ways to strive to "be", for sure. I think if you think about them in light of how the Klown Krew is portrayed on the show you just have to shake your head and think that mainstream LDS people must be pretty turned off by the use of this "be" theme in the jooolry being hawked by MSWC.

The "Be"s mentioned in the speech were:

    Be grateful.

    Be smart.

    Be clean.

    Be true.

    Be humble.

    Be prayerful.

    1. Yes, this is the origin of the "BE" "joo-le-ry," Just another example of the non creativity of these people and how "their designs" are most often rip-offs of someone else's. I can see how these messages might have meaning for LDS church members, and that they might buy such jewelry from church sources, but I can't imagine mainstream Mormons buying from polygamists who think the current church is apostate and that they are the only ones with the truth.

As for the jewelry, I am shocked at how large it is. The packaging immediately reminded me of the little girls jewelry at Walmart. They missed the mark on so many things with this jewelry line. I honestly don't know anyone who would want to a charm necklace like this. I immediately think of the cheer in HS "Be Aggressive, Be Be Aggressive, B-E-A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E." I can't see any age range wanting to wear this. My daughter is 17 and she loves accessories and I can not see her ever wanting something like this. I would never wear something like this. Have a hunch Twisted Sister could go hog wild dreaming up some art for such foolery. I had no clue there were so many types of body piercing joooools ... but if you google the "body piercing shop and piercing types" you will see that there is almost limitless potential to expand their product line. People would buy online if they were the same price in the store.

I actually think that their picture is doing their business harm placed with the items. LDS who live and visit Vegas would find something like the mermaid tank a touristy place and certainly want their kid's wearing charms that say honest and such. Only they would not be likely to buy it to support the principle.

Selling lots of inexpensive things will yield money and create an income. For a couple years. I hope they pay off the houses. I hope they invest the money for a fixed income off the investment if they don't pay off the houses. I hope Janelle keeps up doing her regular type work. This is not a 5 adult business, especially when they are contracting out so much work to so many people. I hope they freeze some of Robyn's eggs. She is running out of time.

My prediction is somebody (Gina et al) will be making a profit off of the joolry, but in the end, the Klowns - not so much. Remember how they were sitting around the table at home and Janelle made some remark about them having a lot of money invested in the joolry already? This so reminded me of how people doing MLM businesses (Amway, Avon, Green goo, Nu-skin, Tupperware etc...) sink a bunch of money into profit and then can't unload it.

    2. Hope you're not really going to hang your experts, Mister Sister! Back in 1953 when what became known as the FLDS community lived in Short Creek,on the Utah Arizona border, the governor of Arizona (Pyle) decided to take action against the community for a whole slew of charges, including statutory rape. Unfortunately, the backlash from the story as portrayed in the media resulted in Pyle failing to be re-elected, and made politicians and the judiciary so fearful of losing their positions that there was a hands-off stance for decades, with the result that these abusive practices flourished unhindered and hit their lowest with Warren Jeffs. Short Creek became known as the "hot potato" in Utah and Arizona, because no one wanted to touch it. Texas, on the other hand, had no such history with polygamy and just went ahead. Glad they succeeded with Jeffs and a few other FLDS men being jailed, but again, public outcry and media portrayal such as the infamous Oprah Winfrey Special, meant that many of the child abuse cases were never pursued by CPS. Where are those little girls now?

Speaking of Rob-bling... Is there ever a time you look at her that you don't wanna just sing that great classic, Rockin Robin? I can't get it out of my mind. I imagine her in all kinds of feathered bird suits. Here's the wonderful real version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcmvwFcfWmY and below is my lame attempt at a spoof of it.

      "Sobyn Robyn"

She sobs in her mansion all day long
Whining and a crying and a hoarding Kody-Kong
All the little spies on Cookie Jar Street
Count the times that Kodpuff runs to give her a treat
      Sobyn Robyn (Tweet, tweet, tweet)
      Sobyn Robyn (Tweet, tweedle-dee-dee)
      Go Sobyn Robyn
Cause you’re really getting purer tonight
      Tweet, tweedle-dee-dee

Every piece of joolry, everything you see
Is iconic pewter, it’s as real as dear Kody
Be sure to have a date night, it’s time to get ‘er done
Too pretty to need an oven ‘cept the one that makes a bun

      Sobyn Robyn, Tweet, Tweet, Tweet
      Sobyn Robyn, Tweet, Tweedle-dee-dee
      Go Sobyn Robyn
Cause you’re really getting purer tonight
      Tweet, tweedle-dee-dee

Make peace with all the sisters for smooching at the door
And shopping for the wedding dress with you-know-who before
The honeymoon’s still on, yes, but do keep up your guard
Wife number five could sashay in and make your life real hard

      Sobyn Robyn, Tweet, Tweet, Tweet
      Sobyn Robyn, Tweet, Tweedle-dee-dee
      Go Sobyn Robyn
Cause you’re really getting purer tonight
      Tweet, tweedle-dee-dee

So now you face the Williams, five babes like you for sure
Trim and such but they have jobs and soon they’ll be the stars
We’re glad, of course, he found you. You make a real matched pair
You with your toned fit cookie tin and he of shaggy hair

      Sobyn Robyn, Tweet, Tweet, Tweet
      Sobyn Robyn, Tweet, Tweedle-dee-dee
      Go Sobyn Robyn
Cause you’re really getting purer tonight
      Tweet, tweedle-dee-dee
      Keep Sweet!

  90. BE annoying.

BE untruthful (such as during the Navuoo Road Trip and this last ep where they out and out LIE and state they aren't being allowed to do whatever because of their lifestyle)

Just a silly little parody of the magnificent song so masterfully sung by Aretha the queen of soul (which you can hear the real version of here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xroRNBvvF9M)

All this jooolry jabbering got to me.

    "Janelle’s Chained to Fools”

    Chain, chain, chain
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chain, chain, chain
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chain, chain, chain
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chained to fools

    For 20 long years
I thought you were my man
    But I found out
I'm just a link in your chain

    Although I’m in a mansion
I’m stuck with you four tools
I gave you six fine babies
    I followed all the rules

    Chain, chain, chain
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chained to fools

You know I am getting stronger
    Pretty as can be
    It’s my prime time now
    Look, see

I don’t want your pewter joolry
Not keen on selling green goo
Real Estate is calling to me
So that’s what I’m gonna do

    Chain, chain, chain
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chain, chain, chain
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chain, chain, chai-i-in
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chained to fools

    One of these seasons
    This chain I'm gonna break
    But up until that day
I'm gonna take all I can take

    Chain, chain, chain
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chain, chain, chain
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chain, chain, chai-i-in
    (Chain, chain, chain)
    Chained to fools

    Chain, chain, chai-i-in
    Chain, chain, chain
    Chain, chain, chai-i-in
    Chained to fools

  92. Holy Fark! - those iconic jools are fugly. Big and clunky and cheap looking. The "Be" chain was big enough to tow a car with. They seriously sell nicer joolery at Walmart. Last time I saw big clunky joolery like that was in the 80s LOL. What a bunch of clowns but I'm seriously not surprised - they have about as much style as a wet fart.

  93. How about:

Be Dirty (refers to those who have lost their Purr-Ty)
    Be Orange (Scary Meri)

    Be Trippin' (Kodouche)
Be Purified (the state of having one's lost purr-ty magically restored)
    Be Brainwashed (all the wives)
    Be Iconic
    Be Scripted
    Be Exploited
    Be a Victim (Sobbin)

  94. I just showed the pictures to my 14 and 15 year old daughters and they said eww.
My 15 year old told me "i would be so embarrassed to wear that."
My 14 YO said I couldn't pay her to wear it.
