Janelle, Hide that money!
Wow, the owners of this site seem to think the people on the panel discussion were 'out to get' the Browns. Ridiculous!  Group of tweets about Dargers getting a show:

Elder from Utah weighing in on polygamy:

Kollene tweets:
Good for Kristyn!

Does this lady watch the same TV show we do?

This girl needs to fail unless she's planning to say they have no ethics.

These 2 are like a dog with a bone!
Sean has some drama on his Twitter too:

No words...

Performance enhancers in the womb? Who knew!

Very interesting background look:

You saw that too, huh? GREAT

Lots and lots of iconic joooolery tweets today!

  3. Found this little gem today and wanted to share it with the SWB readers. Forgive me if it has already been posted. I just got back from lunch with my ma. :)Has some interesting posts in the comment section.

I'd like to know if the ONLY cameras permitted to tape the debate were TLC cameras and only TLC has the full footage.

    2. I'm not savvy at Twitter yet so I missed a LOAD of those comments! Thank you for posting! When I looked today, I didn't see anything on Robyn's Twitter about the so called text from Kristyn Decker. Did they "Kody Krew" delete some of these from their Twitter pages?

  6. I am so mad at Amazon.com right now. I bought the season pass for Sister Wives. "On the Ropes" has not been posted. I'm going to wait a couple of days before I resort to iTunes. They charge too much. I wonder if TLC added more episodes once the season began?

    1. Turtle girl, I am waiting too! It takes FOREVER to clip pics - (ask TW) and want to get on it!! I hope it is up tonight. I will say this- I bought the others at itunes, lost my password, even though I showed them I entered with my email, and showed them an EMAIL from them, acting like I've got no episodes there. So I am sticking with Amazon.

    2. I'm not an "i" fan (as evidenced by the sheer number of times I've referred to my iPhone as a stupid smartphone) so I'd rather not support iTunes, esp. since they are charging $2.99/episode when Amazon offers the season pass at $1.89/episode. Maybe I'm a little Scroogey but I prefer to think of it as channeling my inner Suze Orman.
I just bought the Flora Jessop episode of "Escaping Evil" and watched a little bit. I have a feeling that this is one that I'll have to watch in multiple viewings because it's going to be rough.
MS, thanks again for all that you do. I feel like you've brought the fun back to the blog. Hats off to TSW and FT for their contributions too!

  7. Christine Marie says in the comments:
During the debate, I called Kody Brown the luckiest man on the planet (other than my husband.) All of the negative words on the show were directed towards us, including from the Kristyn's niece Christine Brown towards -->> Kristyn Decker who doesn't have a mean or hateful bone in her body. It was their words that contributed to the public misperception that gentle Kristyn was someone to be feared, or that the Brown family was being ambushed by antagonists. That was just silly. The drama was trumped up and manufactured - but not by us. After the panel, Professor Jankowiak even commended us for being so respectful.

We will be posting a story soon with her side of things and her story.

    1. There really is.
You can not see the entire panel discussion - TLC owns it. Unheard of for a college.
It was edited so much for the Browns to appear attacked, and those that were there are now telling their story of it. Not Pretty. AND, they had to sign a hush paper to be on the panel, and were asked by TLC!!! Pretty bad stuff.

MANY are pro Browns, attacking the panelists for being so horrible to the Browns, and they are actually retweeting this stuff as if true. Some is so sickening, I haven't posted it yet.

So yep. It's not pretty. Our review should be GREAT!

  9. I liked the slide show of the tweets. Easier than scrolling down (I'm lot lazy I swear lol). The timing was done really well. Kudos to the admins.

Am I the only person who thought the "misogynistic pig" comment was directed at this blog and not from one of the panelists? Maybe I am here too much but I was laughing like crazy because I thought she was scrolling through this blog. Looking back I can see how it could have been interpreted to have come from the panelists. Shame on TLC.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It was NOT from one of the panelists. I don't think it was aimed at the blog, however, I think it was another TLC Brown plant to get viewers sympathy. so was much we saw. the Browns want to say what they want, then RUN. They can't handle a panel discussion, which makes you wonder how strong they are in their beliefs.
they also love to play the persecution card, the feel sorry for me card, the finite resources card. Do you feel sorry for them in their large homes? The must be laughing all the way to the bank.

To take real victims and use them in this way was terrible. No moral person would do such a thing for a few bucks.

If you were at the panel then you would of known that the anti-polygamy side won. But thats besides the point. no one should of won or lost, it was supposed to be a panel discussion with pros as well as cons. Robbyn pulled the one thing I could of possibly said in my story to victimize her and her sister wives. But how dare I say sister wives hate each other? She must be the only sister wife in the world. The point I'm trying to get across is, I told my story and I have a right to use the word sister wives because I grew up in polygamy and that was who I was referring to. And nobody thought I was talking about them.. Robyn wanted to create Drama between us. Congratulations SWEETIE now the rest of the world thinks your childish and more of a victim.

I'm glad you loved the episode. I am a former member of the Kingston group. No visitation is aloud. I just recently tried to pay a visit to my twin sisters and it was heart breaking, in the beginning when I left than I could not see my family and my mother threatened me to leave her home. but I forced my way back into their hearts. I have yet to gain the love back from my twin sisters Kathryn and Katelyn. at least Kathryn let me into her home and showed love towards me. Katelyn on the other hand has completely disowned me, Im dead to her and probably always will be. And yes they get into trouble if they let us in their homes and mingle with us. so they do not.

    Replies
    1. I can only hope that time will soften Katelyn's heart. She has so much fear about anything outside of the well-defined boundaries of what she has grown up hearing, absorbing, and believing.

I, too, have a sister who considers both my younger sister and me dead to her, but we believe that she has some serious and untreated mental issues. It's very sad, but all you can do is to live your best life in a truthful way. And, in your case, it's quite obvious that you are definitely accomplishing this. You are an extraordinary person, Kollene, and your strength is inspirational to far more individuals than you could possibly guess at.

One lasts thing: whenever I think about my "lost" sister, which I do every day, I imagine her surrounded by warm light and wish her peace and joy.

So many bright wishes go out to you, Kollene.

    4. So true, Mister Sister. Thought as a seminary student, I am would love to know more about their actual beliefs but I have given that dream up.

That's why the new family may be more interesting as they are claiming not to be religion based.

  18. The brown's missed the point of the panel-it was a discussion with two different viewpoints. Instead of "educating" the audience abt their lifestyle they became defensive and acted as if the other panelists were "persecuting" them for their religious beliefs. They are unable to participate in a discussion that doesn't include everyone agreeing with their point of view. Robyn seemed to be fighting with Kollene, which was odd given Kollene is a teenager.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I feel like that's part of the problem. These ladies are so emotionally stunted. Having to compete with each other for the shared husbands affections regardless of what they tried to preach at the panel. Just like I'm sure they had to compete for their fathers affections during childhood. There's no real growth for anyone living this way. So Robyn acting out as a teenager is almost fitting. And that's sad! One more thing to add to my list of reasons why I'm against it. I just watched it so its pretty fresh in my mind. Ive also always thought from the first season that Robyn is crazy. She's just not right. I think theres truth to her passive agressive statement about people thinking she's broken. I think even she knows deep down she's in serious need of therapy.
I agree with everyone who says that TLC/F8F edited this to make the Browns look "ambushed". Pissed me off! Especially when Meri called Christine Marie's opinion out as "stupid". That statement really made her look and sound uneducated. If fact, they all came off that way. Christine was a big baby plain and simple! And kind of cult like creepy to boot! I used to really like them. I even supported them in the beggining. Now I can't stand them. I see them for what they really are just like most on this blog. I really want to hear more from Krysten and Kollene. True survivors! I love them.

You don't "give" offence, people choose to be offended. Anytime someone says anything contrary about polygamy.... Robyn chooses to be offended. There is criticism towards every religion and lifestyle. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, The Browns openly subjected themselves to criticism. Dont act so victimized and defensive. Just because you choose to disagree does not make you a Strong Woman (SW).

What frustrated me in that episode is how christine didn't want Aspyn to go to the panel. Why? So she wouldn't get both sides of polygamy and still think everything is happy loving fun? what if she did marry into a polygamous marriage and realized it was nothing like her childhood <- witch is the most likely thing to happen to her if she does live polygamy. Aspyn has every right to explore her options and hear whatever she would like to here. I'm glad she went. However im very Ashamed of Christine for acting that way! She brought back sister wife memories of controlling parents that are trying to "protect" their kids from things that could better their life. I feel really bad for all of Christine's kids. They need to get some culture and experiences under their belts. And have a mind of their own. Im absolutely proud of Aspyn for insisting she wanted to go so much. She needs to hear both sides.

  22. Kollene has more nerve, and has been through more in her short life than Kody and Crew could imagine.

Kody/Robyn disgusted me on the show, I can only imagine how they behave off screen.

She's a busy girl, and took the time to thank people, to speak, and I commend her for that. My hats off to you...I'm raising the roof here!

  23. Finally watching this episode after reading all the comments and posts from those who were at the event. It seems to me, the Browns were never ready to go public because they clearly aren't okay. I am stunned on how they cannot explain their religion since they have become the voice of polygamy. You can't play the victim when you chose to put yourself out there. It's time to grow up and own your decision. This is shown on how defensive they were. If you can't have a discussion, then it's time to remove the cameras and get out of the spotlight.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Christine's behavior was really odd in last nights episode. She reminded me of someone that was hiding something and was abt to be found out. Its almost as if she was trying to convince herself and everyone else that she really is happy living polygamy. I think maybe she was afraid to talk to her aunt because she was afraid of what could come of that conversation-remember she had previously stated when she was struggling that she was glad she had decided to not leave and instead to stay and become a better sisterwife. She felt threatened by her aunt's presence and was visibly uncomfortable the whole time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The PHONEY ACT Christine put on of being threatened and afraid of her aunt was to try to discredit anything her Aunt had to say in advance of the debate. Christine was attempting to portray her Aunt as a bully out to get her family. She hoped that would prejudice the audience before the debate even started.

NOT fair play Christine. Your Aunt Kristin is a lovely woman who had the character to get out. Your behavior only made you look like a cowardly weakling who couldn't have an honest discussion about polygamy.

  33. People should be more honest about polygamy. It is about maximizing the amount of children one can have. There is a reason why it isn't one woman with multiple husbands. It slows down the birth rate. Hiding behind religion is shameful to do when the truth is so blatantly obvious.

Time spent with wives and children is significantly hindered when the birth rate increases and, in some cases, is simultaneous.

    ReplyDelete

    1. You just made me think...
As much as I joke about Brother Husbands, I never thought about the logistics. What if you weren't sure who the babydaddy was? There's usually a little leeway with the, *cough*, window of fertility. Can you imagine having to have a paternity test for each pregnancy?

      Delete
    2. TurtleGirl, in true polygacult fashion they would probably insist that the babies father doesn't matter because "it is all about multiplying love"

      Delete
    3. In historically polyandrous cultures, there is a preference NOT to know the identities of fathers; the men tend to be from a single family, though the women tend to be "imported". These societies tend to be located in areas that are not rich in land or resources. The population is kept low; family wealth is retained by the family as a whole; the wife is afforded more power, since their offspring will collectively inherit 100% of the wealth of her husbands' family. It is no less crazy in my book, though it may have some practical basis. I have never heard of a religious basis for any polyandry.

I will post again when she has one up about the show. Very informative.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I finished Kristyn Decker's book and I'm currently reading Ed Kociela's "plygs", which is terrific. I'm very happy that the SW Blog features other books on polygamy on the far right side. I plan to buy the SERIOUS books for my Kindle, but as far as the Browns' and Dargers' books are concerned, if I'm tempted to explore them, I'll just look for them in the library...when I'm really hard up for other reading material. :/ (There are so many fascinating books awaiting me on my ever-growing list, though, that I think it will be a very long time, if ever, that I'll go in search of "Sister Wives" or "Love Times Three".)

The more I think about it, the more incensed I am becoming about TLC, which should stand for Trifling "Lite" Crap vs. "The Learning Channel." There are obviously some differences b/w the Browns, Dargers, and Williams b/c they're an assortment of unique individuals w/ their own separate family dynamics. However, they are clearly very different than the polygamous families that remain hidden in their compounds where significant abuse has and continues to take place. (I do believe that the "Plyg-lites" have issues w/ emotional abuse and extremely limited paternal attention for so many kids.) I know that TLC can't get behind the scenes of the compounds, but I wish they would showcase a series--perhaps just one season, or @ the very least, a 2-3 hr. presentation--where each segment could focus upon how survivors from those compounds were able to rebuild their lives, and the struggles along the way. B/c so many loved ones remain closed off in those communities and might suffer if their escaped kin were exposed in this way, identities could be protected w/ silhouettes, blurred faces, and computer-altered voices. I think it would be so educational to have this presented to the public so they will not continue to be lulled into thinking that the norm in polygamy is the Browns, Dargers, and Williams. All 3 of those families are genial, camera-comfortable, and have fan bases, but there's a nasty, oozing underbelly in polygamy which demands the light of day.

I'm curious to find out if anyone has complained to TLC about not having been shown any type of program that includes a serious investigation into polygamy, and if so, did you hear anything back? The mess in TX @ Jeffs' compound certainly opened my eyes, and here in AZ, I've heard plenty about Colorado City. But, it's so easy to slide into easy complacency when all you're seeing is the frothy, sanitized version of polygamy.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Giltee Guilt: I like the "sanitized" versions of polygyny we're getting from TLC. Before the TLC shows, I was skeeved by the Colorado City types, but that was largely because of the "ick" factor: elderly men marrying their underage nieces without consent. What the Browns and their ilk have demonstrated very well, to me, is that even when the owner-husband is relatively young, AND when the women aren't related to the owner-husband, AND when there was consent, AND when the women are of legal age, plygs are STILL really nuts. If the Browns and their cohorts thought they were going to win me over to polygyny, they failed big time.

    2. I just hope people will never forget that although Jeffs is in jail, Magic Undies, there are plenty of other power-dazzled prophets who have hoisted themselves right into controlling positions. Life remains as it has always been on those compounds.

I went to the SW Facebook page and there are so many posts by people completely enamored by the Browns. I simply don't get it. Ugh....

    4. Giltee I have written complaints to TLC about their lack of showing the other side of polygamy several times. Each time I recommend contacting people like Kristyn Decker, Flora and/or Carolyn Jessop and others so that they could show how these people start their lives over after leaving the polygamist cults.

I have never heard back and they make it extremely hard to find a way to contact them. The last time, if I'm remembering all the steps correctly, I started on TLC's website, clicked through to another and finally to Nat'l Geographic's website and it still took looking to find contact information.

It became clear to me that they do NOT want to hear from their viewers. A long time ago I posted a link to the contact me information on the blog here, but I have no idea when. You had a great idea though.

    5. I suspect that some women like the Browns because, in modern America, close adult gal-pals and close extended families have become a rarity, and people miss the old close communities. They may believe that polygyny is a way to have close female BFFs. Who doesn't long for the days when your best friend lived next door? I "get" the appeal, but oh, what a price the Brown women pay, and it's questionable that they're all close friends anyway.

    6. Funky Town, I think you're terrific for having made such a concerted effort to get through to TLC and then on to National Geographic. I'm very disappointed that they never responded to your excellent suggestion to feature Kristyn Decker, Flora and Carolyn Jessop in your great idea for a program. I am going to try writing, too. Since my husband and I have always been big supporters of PBS/NPR, I'm going to try that route as well.

I haven't watched the Dateline program from last week yet, but I wonder if TLC or National Geo. will get a little more enthusiastic about your suggestion since that important program just aired? I know there are some extremely altruistic people who quietly work behind the scenes trying to help those who leave the compounds. I can only imagine what kinds of pressures they've faced in terms of intimidation tactics and flat-out threats. Regardless, they just keep on toiling and helping....doing important and truly life-saving work. I'm sure they need help. I wish they could receive recognition for what they are doing.

God bless this blog!! I doubt that it would have ever drifted across my conscious mind to deeply contemplate this situation without having come to the SW Blog to become better-educated about polygamy. Now I am motivated to write to TLC, Nat'l. Geo, and PBS. I also want to find out the names of the organizations that help those who want to leave polygamy, and offer donations for shelter, food, clothing, personal items, etc. since some of these individuals are fleeing w/ nothing else x/c what they've got on their backs.

    7. Magic Undies, I think there's a genuine bond of deep friendship b/w Janelle and Christine, but I don't think that Sobbyn and Meri feel very connected to them. At all. As I mentioned in my post above, I haven't read the Browns' book, but I have seen excerpts of it in various threads that have been on the SW Blog. Most recently, PlygKoolAid (I'm pretty sure that's the name) was kind enough to put some very pertinent quotes from various Browns up on the blog. I know that it was mentioned in the book that Meri was quite mean to Janelle when Janelle "married" Kodouche, and I don't think Meri will ever feel a strong bond to Janelle. Sobbyn will just follow the Queen Bee First Wife b/c she knows Meri has the most clout.

Meri and Sobbyn have an odd relationship. There's a parallel manipulation dance that goes on b/w them. But, there was one big crack that revealed itself in Sobbyn's act, and that's what I want to write about. I really was surprised w/ that couch scene when Meri was broken up about Kodouche's decision to not go forward w/ her for another child. As many others expressed on this blog, Sobbyn seemed coolly detached. I've been annoyed by Meri throughout the seasons, but if I'd been sitting on that couch w/ her--even as a total stranger--I know that I would have been moved enough to have at least put my arm around her shoulders in a comforting way. Sometimes there are no words that can be offered b/c the pain is too great, but at least the warmth of human connection can offer something. Sobbyn was probably musing about whether to wear a teddy or a bustier from her V.S. collection w/ the Douche later that night while Meri was crying. Sobbyn reveals herself to be more & more Machiavellian by the episode, IMHO.

Despite the tensions and dramas (mainly for the camera) in the 4 Brown McMansions in Cuddle-Sac, NV, I think many viewers have come to a more accepting view of polygamy in general based upon these silly set-ups. My concern is that the Browns, Dargers, and Williams are anomalies....not the norm @ all, and the public shouldn't buy them as the 2013 representation of polygamy.

      Delete
    8. Hi Giltee Guilt. I wish they would show people who have broken away as well just to give a balanced look at things. If you wanted to see Willie Steeds family, you can watch them on a 20/20 episode that aired last year I think. There are a few commercials but I thought it was worth it and Willie looks like a really well adjusted man. I wish he would speak out more.

I know it isn't the same as TLC doing an episode, but at least someone paid attention to people who have broken away.

  41. Good golly!! Robyn's use of the word sweetie was so incredibly and abrasive, she might as well have said "witch with a b" (not entirely sure on the language guidelines, hence the phrase). But truthfully, I am rarely shocked by their antics because they are so incredibly ridiculous, for the most part. But I was taken aback by her anger and the pure hatred that came through with that word. No one was victimizing her and I truly believed Kristin when she said she was clarifying. Sheesh!!

As for Christine in the bathroom, my goodness. I understand that it is hard to see a family member who defies what you believe and thinks horrendous things about your family. But part of being an adult is bucking up and acting mature. Hiding in the bathroom because someone is standing in line waiting to use it is not mature. She could have simply walked out, smiled politely and returned to their room as quickly as possible. Yes it would have been hard but it would have been more respectful and garnered more respect from the audience.

    Yikes. Yikes all around.

    1. Christine did us all a favor. She showed us exactly how two faced she is. As was mentioned above, for her to say one thing to her family, then put on her smile and appear to be, oh so sweet, is indeed deceitful. I suppose we could put it down to her culture's "keep sweet" mandate. I do not buy this. I think that Christine and the other "sweeties" of the Brown Cult are decieving us each and evey week. Instead of the fun loving wives we see, I suspect they are extremely depressed and hiding this under their public persona.

      Delete
    2. Robyn lashing out and the whole "Sweetie" thing made me wonder how often massive fights break out between the wives? Do they ever let the other have it or do they bite their tongues and 'keep sweet' (giving themselves ulcers and deep dark depression/resentments?).

    3. Wasn't Christine the one who used to love doing publicity and promoting their lifestyle? I don't buy that she was scared for one second. She is a weak, immature, lazy woman who is too scared to do anything for herself.

    7. I was uncomfortable watching him bash Janelle in last weeks episode. About her whining. Not that I'm a Janelle fan. But my first thought was maybe that anger was a roids contributer. Note: I'm not making allegations that that's his problem. It just reminded me of old friends who were into it and had spurts of anger issues coming out of nowhere. Sean should probably stop while he's ahead. His air time needs limiting before people stop paying him to get lashed out at!
And who the hell is he anyway to act like that? Because he's a "friend" of the Browns he now has the right to be a childish jerk to someone he's probably never met or probably knows nothing about? These people and apparently people they befriend act like their mentality is on a high school level. He should be ashamed, regardless if he apologized or not. Awesome that so many people stepped up and called him out on his behavior! Kudos!

It's really a shame that she has repeatedly maligned the father of those kids as an abuser....and then the whole purity stuff. She's manipulative, deceptive, and has a big mean streak.

    2. Robyn has really been showing her true colors this season whereas before we only saw glimpses. Her rolling her eyes when Janelle voiced wanting to do real estate, bashing her ex in front of their kids, making Christine feel frumpy, snapping at her daughters, being crazy on the discussion panel, and what earned her my eternal dislike-slapping little Truely's hand away when she wanted attention. I knew she was a witch from the first time we saw her.

  45. Random thoughts - I'm over the Free Janelle thing because, obviously, she doesn't want to be freed. For whatever reason, she seems to be completely in love with the Kodster. I watched the old clip about the 11 day honeymoon on TLC's website recently and she was hurt and angry over the whole thing. It's the most I've ever seen her emote.

One thing about the polygamist gene pool is it sure seems to produce beautiful kids. What a shame that these women seem to age so prematurely. The M5W ladies, and the Dargers give me the vibe that they work their tails off to stay attractive to their husbands so they can compete. I definitely get the vibe from old Papa Joe that he does not tolerate weight gain.

Young Willie makes me want to hug him. He seems so much younger than his bio years, and so naive. I think I saw somewhere that he is way behind academically as well. I'm so angry that these kids in the FLDS are so unprepared for life BY DESIGN so they are easier to control by those in authority. Willie seems so sincere, eager to learn, kind and caring, and I would be so proud to have a son just like him. The look of concern that he gave Kollene during the panel discussion in response to Robyn's bitchiness melted me.

The edit that the Browns got in the last show gave me the impression that the TLC crew assigned to them is over it. My fantasy is that one or more of the camera crew lurks on this blog and will share the real story, anonymously, of course. Don't worry Kollene, anyone with a brain could see the passive aggressive edit that seemed to favor the Browns on the surface, but made them look like immature, narcissistic drama queens...all 5 of them.

So, almost everyone I know has a favorite charity, cause, or some way to give back to the community. I have volunteered with an animal adoption agency for years, and want to give a big, slurpy, belated kiss to the adopter of Kody Brown, the canine. Seems strange to me that we never really see the Browns doing any kind of service projects. Did I miss something?

    1. Exactly, when have the Browns ever given back instead of taken? 3/4 wives used the system for food stamps, medical, college tuition, bankruptcies, etc. Maybe Meri has given back with her time working with teens and I did see her do some run once, but that's not all that much. Geeze, the Duggars, The Little Couple, and even Honey Boo Boo have given back. Since Robyn is so concerned with abuse why don't they donate time to that cause? Instead they pick on people who were really, truly abused? Wow.

I don't think that TLC much cares for the Browns from the lack of advertising it did for their latest season and their poor edits. Can't wait to hear the tell-all.

No, I don't think Papa Joe would tolerate any overweight women in his family. Ironic because he's a little husky himself.

    2. I have a different viewpoint on this.
The Browns have received a great edit from TLC on this one. The whole "Fear Auntie" script gave them what they love; persecution for their cause and sympathy from a non knowing viewer. Look at the complete smear campaign that went on in the pub. and web- Browns harassed by Anti Polygamists! The headlines screamed this. The episode was filmed over 5 days ~ Willy's story was completely cut, from what I hear probably after he pissed Kody off. The whole set-up from Christine. NO headline read - Christine makes aunt out to be a monster, Aunt says she adored Christine.

I'd say they came out like bandits. I am sure they are griping somewhere in LV, though.

    4. What I find most interesting is that the panel show has the Brown's talking about how happy they all are and how religion has mandated this happy lifestyle. Next week we all get to see 2 hours of them at a marriage retreat to deal with their "issues". Well, duh! Looks like the happiness quotient of plural marriage may be less than advertised. Any watcher of the show would have loved to hear a lot more of Kollene, Willy, Kristen and Christine's stories. Did I miss their stories? Have to admit to nodding off pretty regularly during SW.

On a bit of a snarky level--has anyone else noticed that the camera man seems to follow Meri's behind whenever possible? In the new homes tours both Meri and Robyn got a lot of shots of their way too tight jeans filled to the maxl LOL Wonder just how much fun the Brown crew are if the camera guy or the editor want to show their least attractive photos??

  46. " Ed Kociela @EdKociela
@realkodybrown: how can robyn say you guys were ambushed when @TLC arranged this panel? #polygamy #dramaqueen"

*THIS* is the bottom line in all of this!!!

TLC set this up. It was all for the show. No more, no less. And the Browns knew well in advance why they were there. BS on the professor for agreeing to engage in the phony pre-show Q&A interviews. All scripted and bogus.

Obviously, it was "pitched" to the four attendees to be a lucid, civil discussion. However, it was designed to be anything but civil and lucid.
It was an ambush all right...but pointedly directed at Kristyn and Kollene.

The pre-scenes and dialogue as the Browns were leaving their homes set the stage for what was to be just another trumped up episode of "poor us" where *this time* the faux drama would star Christine and her many woes.

Counting on Kody to be his usual arrogant, yet stupid, self was a given.
Robyn's unforgivable antics were just an added plus for TLC's agenda.
The bathroom filming was consistent with the SW style of setting up sham scenes.
    It all was shameful.

Kollene, your picture with the tea plant is stunning.
Should you ever consider a completely different career, you would do well in modeling.
However, I applaud your passion and zeal to speak your truth in the hopes of saving others. You are more articulate than you know. Your words are not scripted. Your truth is not for sale or negotiable.
Never doubt who and what you are. You have far to go on this life.

Kristyn, your heart shines through your words, writings and wisdom.
You have so much to share, and so much to teach those who need or are willing to learn. And you have a natural knack for comforting those in need.
You are making a huge mark in this work. Bless you !!

    3. Freya - You said you think their kids obviously see right through them. I'm not sure about all of the kids. I think Janelle's kids have the best chance of striking out on their own and leaving the plg lifestyle behind when they grow up.

In any event, if even some of them find their way outside of the plyg world as adults it will provide inspiration and an anchor/escape path/sanctuary for any siblings who want to leave it behind. Even having one sibling who is settled outside of the plyg lifestyle and who can provide a place to run to can provide a lot of security. (I'm thinking of the brother in Oregon who provided a safe haven for his 2 sisters who fled the FLDS for example.)

Even if the parents cut the children out of their lives for not becoming polygamists (or favored the children who did do so over them) at least they would have non-plyg siblings to be family with.

Although Meri seemed to keep it together. If they want to be the face of polygamy instead of Warren Jeffs and his ilk, they should tell Robyn to shut her pie hole.

    1. I was very disappointed in all of the Browns and the way they behaved. They did not even afford Kristyn, Will, Kollene and Christine Marie the common courtesy of listening to what they had to say.

Every time one of them spoke, what I saw was someone from the Brown family interrupting and trying to talk louder than them. It was rude, immature and didn't gain any points from me.

I've been in a situation like that before and I asked the people on my team to at least give the other team the courtesy of finishing what they had to say before starting to rebut their points. SOMEONE on the Brown side should have been adult enough to say something similar to the members of their family. Just my 2 cents and in no way am I saying I was a hero or even should get a pat on the back, to me it's just common courtesy. No one can understand anyone's point if they're talking over people.

From what we saw of the discussion, all of them stayed to the general topic of polygyny rather than making it about it about the Browns. 6. I've never been on the Free Christine or Free Janelle wagon. they're adults. They have cast their lot in with an airheaded idiot and his shrewish first wife and have opted to stay in. they aren't political prisoners. They're just as big idiots as Kody. INCLUDING Janelle.

Not sure why the kids turned out the way they did, just dumb luck I guess. I refuse to give Janelle full credit for that, or Christine either. Logan seems to have been born with common sense and he raised his siblings more than his mom did. IMO.

    7. Dakota,

I think the same thing. Janelle wasn't even raised in this cult--she entered into it voluntarily as an adult. To me, that makes her the least intelligent of the group. The rest of the women were brainwashed from birth. That Janelle chose this as an adult is mind boggling. She needs serious therapy.

      Delete
    8. You know what else I'd like to know? Janelle wasn't raised in the cult, married into it, got a divorce, then her ex-husband (Meri's brother) left the cult, correct? I'd like to hear from the ex-husband (who sadly is now probably also an ex-brother). I'd like to know why he left and how his life has changed since divorcing Janelle and leaving the cult. I'd also like to hear his opinion on why Janelle joined in the first place.

Janelle is passive to the point of almost not existing. She says she doesn't really cook, she says she doesn't discipline her kids, she usually just sits like a bump on a log while the other wives talk--what's the deal?

  59. Just shows how fake the Browns really are. They say they are OK with their kids choosing monogamy, yet they can't even have a civil conversation with a relative that has chosen monogamy and left her plural marriage. What's even more disgusting is that what we all saw was the sanitized version of what transpired -- the Browns were obviously even more childish and vile before editing. I'm starting to dislike them more and more as each week passes.

  60. Hi Canadian Ginger!
I believed the Browns when they said they were ok with their children not picking it until I learned a few things, thought I would share.

That is not true. Their religion mandates that they live polygamy or be damned to hell. Who would want that for their child? they show more and more that they are actually trying to get the kids to be polygamists.
    Just food for thought!

    1. Mister Sister... I agree with you. It's a lie and they just want to appear to be open-minded when they really aren't. Kody will do anything to ensure that his daughters keep sweet and become sister wives -- remember how excited they were when the Darger's were on the show and the teenagers were interacting. I'm sure the Browns were salivating at the idea of the kids pairing (or I guess could be tripling or quadrupling) up with the Darger kids.

I thought that Robyn and Christine in particular seemed brainwashed at the panel discussion and afraid of hearing opinions that were contrary to their own. They are terrified that if they don't live a polygamous life they will burn in hell and it was pretty evident.

    2. I can also imagine that if one of their kids comes out as gay, they will not be happy at all no matter what they say.

    3. I wonder if Kody is living polygamy for religious reasons, deep down in his truest hearts of heart if he believes it.....because not to sure he understands it. Or if its just a lifestyle for him, set up to stroke his ego, have fawning females worship him. I don't know alot about the religion of it, getting educated here, but it just seems he prefers to call it a lifestyle and only mentions religion when he feels threatened. A religious father, or parent, who thought their child was going to be damned in the afterlife for not following their religion would, IMo, push a little harder. I saw someone the other day say there was a big difference in lifstyle and religion.

instead am wondering if the emotional drama she seemed to be experiencing
had anything to do with the practice of SHUNNING anyone who leaves the cult?

Does Christine have anything to do with her parents/siblings?
Was she trying to make sure her bio family would see that she wasn't willingly interacting with her aunt?

On another note, finished "plygs"-- anxiously awaiting the sequel!!

  62. I just finished rewatching the show. I was struck with the display of Robyn's inability to truly comprehend what is being said. I have read here before that she doesn't seem "to be the brightest bulb in the socket." I have to agree. During Robyn's "sweetie" comment she showed that she did not understand the comment that had triggered her "then I would leave" outburst. She responded to someone saying something along the lines of "what if you woke up one day and realized that it was all for superstition." Later, she didn't seem to understand that she had responded to finding out the mandate wasn't real. She displays a classis inability to comprehend what others say. She is so busy talking, she doesn't realize that she needs a little more time to process what she has heard.

  63. I think the show is going to the Browns heads. I think that THEY think they are the poster children for Modern Progressive Polygamy. There....I named it.

I have been watching the show Big Love (thank you Netflix) and I'm half-ish through the second season. There was a scene where Barb (wife 1) was distressed and talking with the first wife of their plyg friends. The friend made a broad statement about how secret their lives were, they didn't have anyone to look up to on television. There were no plyg people to set a good example.....

Hmmmm. Makes you wonder. I read on here, that Kody and Meri were really into Big Love, how much you want to bet that their pitch to get their own show was just that. They want to be the "Leave it to Beaver" for all those in the closet Modern Progressive Polygamists out there. The bright and shining star to look for in the sky to pattern your life after. Excuse me I'm going to toss breakfast now......

Okay, the show. I finally got it on amazon. Can I just say, Janelle, you are looking Fab-U-Lous!! Christine, get your head out of your ass and take off your damn "rose colored glasses" and join us in the real world. Meri, well, you seem to be sitting in the background watching the world go by, a lot like that loyal dog Kody wants to use as your personal iconic symbol. Robyn, well, um, you really are acting like an irritating little old lady yappy-yapp dog. The kind that no matter how long you know them they always bark and growl at you. They bite you if you try to pet them and never seem to relax? yup, Robyn is now a yappy-yappy Protector of the Family Dog. Kody's personal bodyguard. Gag me, gag me now.

I'm reading through their book again, poor Robyn, so upset because the wives have history with Kody and she doesn't. Wow, will she ever move past 13 or 14 emotionally? She acts like a brat who needs either a time out or to be grounded for the summer.

    2. "Modern Progressive Polygamy"
      perfect label, Rose!
I loved "Big Love" when it came out. At that time I was not familiar with polygamy or its history. One scene that has stuck with me was either a flashback or a 'bonus' scene--Nicky has her first baby in the hospital and Barb is visiting. Barb looks at the baby (boy) and remarks "why, he looks like..like...(like Bill, the husband; you can see by Jean Tripplehorn's excellent acting that Barb is overwhelmed by the realization that this is Bill's kid, that she is really is a polygamous relationship, etc.)..he looks just like a Wayne" (or whatever that baby's name was).
A bit further into this scene is when Nicky, fearing her lot will be to push out one baby after another, tears up in a hugely dramatic way, is overcome completely. Barb is like "What's the matter?" Nicky: "You can't fool me Barb"...she remembers all the women, pregnant over and over again, smelling of "sour milk". A truly heartwrenching scene.

  64. Alright, I finally saw the episode as well. Here is what I think. 1) The Browns do think there is a good experience in polygamy and that they are not the only ones experiencing this 2) Aspyn was right when she said that nobody was realizing that it wasn't an attack, they were just trying to share their stories (both sides got a bit heated) 3) I disagree with the comments about Christine being fake. At first, I wasn't sure where she was coming from, but then I remember college and having roommates that were on the opposing side of a presidential election. Election night, I didn't even want to be home- I went and stayed with some other friends- that's how worried about confrontation I felt, especially when they were saying to me, "how stupid can people be" etc. It's hard not to feel like they are saying it purposely to imply that you are being stupid. So, I get where Christine was coming from. Do I agree with her on polygamy? No...but I know when you are going into a debate with a family member on an opposing side, it's hard not to take it personally or feel attacked. 4) I really can't wait for the marriage retreat episode next week...yes, I'm sad or so my husband keeps telling me. :)

    1. This blog is so great b/c other commenters bring up things that haven't even crossed my radar. That happened just now! Anon 8:42, you've made an excellent point re: Christine and your analogy to what happens @ election-time, particularly during the pres. elections. That could have been what happened w/ Christine. She is definitely someone who is not comfortable w/ any form of confrontation. This was made quite clear from the way she was so terribly hard on herself re: her discomfort/jealousy issues w/ Sweetie Sobbyn after the Douche added the Chin as his 4th "wife". Christine had every reason to feel those things, particularly b/c she did not receive the attention and love she so deserved after bringing Truly into the world. The Douche, and Meri, too (when she was in bed w/ a broken or sprained foot or something), just made Christine feel worse. My head hurts from these people!!

As someone up-thread commented earlier, I just hope the kids will have many opportunities to read, be exposed to other points of view, and make well-informed decisions about how they want to live their own lives and what type of marriages they want.

  68. Another theory about Christine's refusal to have lunch with her Aunt, et al. Kody has shown time and again (words and actions) that he considers Christine the "least favorite" of his wives. When she dared speak out about her jealousy, she got the proverbial smack down from Meri (who more or less advised her not to bother Kody with her distress). Christine clearly sees that "mean girl" Robyn is Kody's favorite - and Robyn is the most vociferous defender of their lifestyle choice, if not their religious beliefs. Maybe Christine was so afraid to speak to her Aunt (hiding in the bathroom, refusing lunch, etc.) because she's afraid of losing favor with Kody. Maybe she feels that her fervent defense of polygamy is the ONLY thing that keeps her from being a total loser in Kody's eyes.

    1. Why didn't Cody MAN UP and simply say that because Christine, himself and the others did NOT want it to turn into a "family" debate or confrontation she was not participating this time. ( & she thrives on attention and the rest was for show) She could of also, addressed the "family" differences from the beginning with out her smart A-- remark which just added fuel to the fire and made her look like a B----! If I was her Aunt I would of said, thats funny we've been asking the same thing about you since you were 10. But instead her Aunt came off as the intelligent, educated, mature woman.

In almost a way that makes it sound like she's embarrassed to be associated with her. Then the "Sorry Aunt Kristyn, but your husband was not a nice man." Um. 3. Of course, it wouldn't end up on TV, but if someone was really interested in determining how involved he is with his kids (because tv certainly doesn't represent life when you know you're being filmed and judged), they should ask what his kids' birthdays are, or if he can name each of their best friends, or if he knows their grades in, say, math class. It's fine to say you're involved as much as any father, and to show clips of you playing and interacting with all of them, but I honestly doubt he knows all that much about each one -- what's their least favorite vegetable, their favorite colour, etc? He may know all of that for the older kids, because it's easier to know each one when there are only five or six, but I don't believe he helps all of them with their homework, or knows each little kid's favorite cartoon. He may be as involved as possible, and he may be more involved than some monogamous fathers, but there's no way he can be as involved with 17 as he would with 3. There's just not enough time in the day -- sure he doesn't work, but nearly all of those kids are in school.

Maybe the best outcome from them moving to LV is that they are no longer in a state or community where the odds of this happening are greater. The kids have been able to see the harm to their moms of being a single mom basically, so how is this what one would want for their kids? How can the Brown adults possibly encourage Mariah who meri says had a calling to be a sisterwife be ok with this. Is the pool of plyg "light" men that great? 3. Anon 8:44 - I'm not a lawyer (nor do I play one on TV!), but I wouldn't expect any of the wives to be financially responsible for the others if something were to happen to Kody. I think they would all be responsible for their own families. The only one that may be on the hook could be Meri as she is legally married to the father of Kody's kids. But I think it's been stated that his name isn't on the birth certificates, so not sure what the legality of that would be. 79. New to this blog, love all the comments. Not sure I can articulate this correctly, but I will try. What I find interesting is how each relationship Kody has with each wife appears to be on a very surface level. He does not seem to be deeply connected to any of the women. In other words all the relationships appear to be on a very immature level, kind of like a relationship you would have in jr. high school, pre sex type of relationship. I have been married for 22 yrs (monogumous) and the connection I have with my husband is very very deep and close. There is no way I could share the kind of intimacy we have with another person. I am not judging the Browns way of life, but I question the love they share for each other. There is no way Kody could be equally intimate with each wife and I find this very sad for all of them. I do not believe any of them have true love. Even when they are showing him with one wife like on a date, they seem physically awkward with each other. And if they live this for religious reasons, what part of the bible is this based on. The new testament clearly states two hearts become one, not many hearts become one. Do they just ignore the new testament?

  87. I'm not for or against polygamy per sae. I'm for doing whatever you want as long as a.) you're not physically or emotionally hurting anyone else, b.) you're not violating yourself or others in any sense of the word, and c.) your freedom of choice is never forced on others. Therefore if you want to be in a polygamist marriage then go for it - but I've noticed most of the relationships are not happy and many people violate one of the a, b, c's I have about polygamy within their relationship.
You're right, Robyn/Meri, monogamist relationships DO have problems. There's abuse. There's emotional abuse. There's sexual assault of children. There's abuse of children. There's hatred and jealousy. Those things are all true. I'm not trying to shove "monogamy" down your throat or trying to convince you or your children to be monogamist but in the same respect I'm willing to admit the faults and truths of monogamist relationships.
YOU REFUSE TO ADMIT CLEARLY THAT YEAH SOMETIMES YOU ARE JEALOUS OF YOUR SISTERWIVES, SOMETIMES YOU ARE ABUSED EMOTIONALLY BY KODY (AND DON'T PRETEND LIKE YOU'RE NOT BECAUSE IT'S AS CLEAR AS DAY YOU ARE), etc. When someone says any of these things to any of you, your feathers are ruffled and you automatically tune out and cannot identify with the words being said. NOT EVERYTHING IS AN ATTACK ON YOUR "LIFESTYLE". You want the right to live your life, fine. Well we want the right to live ours, and you JUDGE monogamy and people in monogamist relationships just as much as you are judged yourselves and you refuse to admit it.
ou cannot see past the gate if you put a bolder in front of the gate's door, "Sweetie".
I don't understand, during the panel, why in the world Robyn seemed to go into automatic attack mode and why the heck Meri was laughing at a question, asked seriously, from an audience member. You're supposed to be adults and the "specimen" of polygamy for the audience and panel members - act like it.
I lost so much respect for Christine in this episode, years of respect just were washed away with her childish behavior, attempted dramas, and carrying grudges and acting like a five year old in front of her entire family. Shame on you, Christine. I use to always feel sorry for you and thought you were a kind spirit and a little misconbobulated (okay a lot misconbobulated). You proved how manipulative, mean spirited, cruel, and angry you truly are. Anything to get attention, even throwing your aunt who just disagrees with you, under the bus? Grow up!
