  2. I love it like this!

Ed, very thoughtful review from a different standpoint. Great you got to talk to Kristyn. May I ask, was she hurt by the show? Clearly you told her she had lots of support here!

  3. I am almost done with Kristyn's book, and she sure is one strong woman! This blog, and these posts, have really opened my eyes to so much that I had only started to realize watching Sister Wives on my own. I always thought Christine was fake, but I've taken that belief to a whole new level. It was nice to hear Kollene say Janelle was great. I was worried I might be wrong about her!

  4. Hello Anon...
    Yes she was.

There was the duplicitous behavior of the production crew in the final edit that was disturbing, of course. That was quite upsetting.

And, there was the impact of the actions that we all believe were influenced and instigated by the producers to create more stress and drama.

I think, however, the actions of her niece were the most disturbing to her. She truly has affection for her family and was distraught that Christine would use the show/panel as an opportunity to abuse her, which is what she did. She manipulated the bathroom scene to dramatize the show. As we saw with Robyn's smirk/laugh and the poorly acted scene that followed, it was contrived.

Kristyn seeks a place for the truth. When it does not occur, it is disheartening. Christine's actions were hurtful, over-played and did not ring tru to many of us who saw the show.

Looking forward to the spoilers tonight!

  6. Really like this new feature !!
    Quick, efficient !!

Also really appreciate having Ed and Cara and Kristyn, Willie, Kollene and Christine Marie onboard for possible commentary about tonight's finale.

After these witnesses' "real deal" expose' posted this week about last week's faux debate, wonder if the producers' editing elves have been busy snipping and adding to tonight's final cut for damage and image control ??

    Should be interesting..!!

  8. Mister Sister this is a better system for the comments. Way to go.

OK, well I've just about finished reading "It's not about the sex, my ass" and just want to highly recommend it (along with the other books our guest bloggers have written).

I started reading it because after the week we've had on the blog I wanted something funny to help me get my snark back. It is indeed hilariously written - very wry humor and sarcastic. Deliciously snarky. But, the thing I appreciated about it even more is the really helpful overview of their crazy cult religion that was cooked up by their leaders pretty much on the fly. The author talks about how the leaders took traditional LDS teachings (which to a non-LDS like me was fascinating to read about since I was starting from scratch in my knowledge of it) and they added all kinds of wack-a-doodle elements to justify the polygamy and to keep power in the hands of the top guys. There were elements of mysticism, seances, past-lives/reincarnation, end-of-the-world doomsday scenario's, claiming to be the Holy Ghost and Jesus Christ, trips to state capitals and the White House by cult elders to curse the government, advertising their group however they could and welcoming national and international press attention to recruit new members.

(Hmmm.... maybe the Klowns are actually hoping to recruit people to their lifestyle rather than just defend it by having their show? They deny this all the time - that it's right for them, not everyone. But now I am wondering if they get "Brownie points" (pun intended) from the AUB for getting the lifestyle out there in front of the masses.

In the book "It's Not About the Sex, My Ass", wives were traded around like baseball cards and sought after not only for their looks but for what money they could bring to the family. It was all held together with what I can only imagine was some form of twisted group-think, brainwashing and fear.

The author of the book came from the TLC group (not the TV show initials - it stands for their brand of fundamental Mormonism). They did NOT wear prarie dresses and stick out. I repeat - they considered themselves Hipster, modern plygs - just like the Browns.

Reflecting on all of what I've read I now think part of why the Klowns left Utah was not just for business opportunities but perhaps the AUB was sending them out to spread their seed in Nevada - kind of like missionaries going to a new outpost.

And here is one final thought to ponder. Perhaps the green goo and MSWC are not so much attempts to make a fast buck but rather as a way for the Klowns to meet lots of people in order to further recruit others to the plyg lifestyle.

They would have less opportunity to recruit in traditional jobs where they saw the same people day after day. Especially the green goo business allows them a chance to bring people into their home and further try to connect with them and convince them up close and personal that the plyg lifestyle is great.

And of course every show that airs they are probably getting some vulnerable people to decide to explore the lifestyle and/or religion.

It may be that TLC is happy that the Williams family is claiming they are no longer in it for the religion. Saves everyone wondering about the religion which, in the end, is pretty hard to explain.

That's a long way of me saying go read the book "It's not the sex, my ass" because you will get a sense of why even if TLC would let the Klowns talk about their religion they wouldn't want to do it on TV. It is just too far from anything mainstream.

    1. Glad you read it and enjoyed it as well as got educated from it. It's an eye-opener. I've been periodically recommending it to others here for about a year now. I think it should definitely be included in the list of good reads on the bottom right here. I've read all those listed and then a lot more, too! I've been reading/studying/researching the plyg life for four years now. Joseph Smith was quite the "spiritual dreamer" w/it and then Brigham Young took it to a whole new level. and now it's devolved all the way to the likes of the sexual deviant pedophile leader Warren Jeffs!!

    2. Anon 12:16, I learned a lot and laughed my head off while reading "It's Not About the Sex, My Ass!" It's a very fast read, too. ;-)

You made some terrific points in your post. Now that I know the Browns are still so closely connected to the AUB (I'm still shocked by this), I'm particularly intrigued by possible Brown/AUB alliance ventures that have a far greater reach as a result of the Brown family name recognition. There is a lot more of the Brown iceberg that we have not seen.

      Delete
    3. Giltee Guilt, I'm hoping the Williams might shed light on things. If the Williams stay off twitter, that will leave the Browns to answer for things the Williams say or do. That could prove to be catastrophic for the Browns.

Remember, they are trying to please both sides. AUB and the public. I don't believe they would fair well if that happens.

  9. I am really curious to hear what financial shift has taken place that makes Mariah's ability to go to the private college change. Did the college offer more than the $10,000 scholarship for the promos on the show under the table and then change its mind because of blow-back from donors or something? Were the Klowns unable to get a parent student loan because of their past credit history and McMansions? Whatever changed (if anything did and it is not just TLC messing with us again with their "teasers") I bet we won't hear the REAL story.

Why? Because the Klowns are not capable of telling the truth. They have too much to hide.

  10. After all the years of watching the Browns I was truly dismayed by their actions last week. I really want to send a heartfelt thanks to Ed, Cara and the wonderful panel members Krystin, Kollene, Christine Marie & Willy who came here to share with us- you are all inspiring people with an important and truthful story to be told.

  11. In regards to my other comment and those who responded I think 2 of you have very good points. Ed had mentioned to me that it is the Browns' show and they will do what they can to make it "interesting" for more viewers.
It's sad to have to agree to this, but I know it's the truth. Anything to add more drama, even if it's acting horrible toward those who care deeply for your family and children.

The Anon who commented also said Christine may have acted like she did because she is taught to not have anything with those who have left the church.
That is something I really never thought about, because to be honest I thought the Brown family were independent plygs. I had no idea they were still a part of the church. But now looking back at so much that has gone on, it makes so much sense!

Does anyone think being part of the church may have helped in them getting their McMansions? As far as I understand the church does purchase many homes and lets their followers live there.

And like I have read others say, I don't recall them talking about finances that my description of the show said.. I wonder if it was a ploy to bring more viewers.

    1. I feel Christine is the only one of the adults who still aligns herself with the AUB due to her lineage.

    2. Their church is in Utah. I don't think they would have purchased homes far from the church because then their "flock" wouldn't be close. I believe this was 100% the Browns + TLC. From what I have read, the church isn't too happy with them being on TV.

Sidenote: I'm kinda glad their last name is easy to spell. Just realized it now but it's good they have an easy name for typing purposes lol

    3. SheilaAnn- In the last page of comments someone had said that the whole family is still part of the AUB church. But she very well may be the one who makes sure they are connected because she is part of their 'royalty'.

Anon 4:21- I'm sure you're right about the church not being a part of their home buying. I can totally understand why the church would be upset, I would be too for that matter, they are exactly a "poster family".

Does the AUB church only practice in Utah or do they branch out communities like the FLDS?

      Delete
    4. They branch out. Kollenes interview with Doris revealed that they (referring to all polygamist groups) move people around so people don't get the disease that comes from inbreeding.

They have churches in Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Arizona, Missouri, and Mexico.

  12. Ed got it right that most reality shows are now scripted. There is, however, a wonderful reality show that I have become hooked on: The Little Couple. It is about a couple of married little people (she is a pediatrician) and how they have adopted a child from China who is also a little person. There is an honesty and sweetness about this show that is rare in reality tv. I guarantee that you will laugh and cry and root for these folks every week. Oh, and they are also about to adopt a girl from India who is also a little person. Trust me, you will be a fan too. The Browns could learn a lot from this show about generosity and kindness.

    1. I agree about The Little Couple show. It was very informative about the things people go through when adopting (especially from a foreign country). I applauded them for not having cameras or visitors during the first six weeks they were home in Texas with their son. It gave them private time for him to bond with them. I also found it interesting to learn about all the surgeries that Mom and Dad went through when they were young, and will find it interesting to see what their son will need. This coming Tuesday the show will feature his first surgery - putting tubes in his ears to improve his hearing, and removing tonsils and adenoids, which will hopefully cure his sleep apnea. (I am an adult using a CPAP machine, and I can't imagine a 3-year-old with such severe apnea.)

    2. Yes, love these two. They are interesting in their own right and an inspiration to many. TLC needs them not the other way around. I would suppose if TLC tried to create faux drama the good Dr. would tell them to take a hike.
Their son Will who has a mind of his own and the relationship between all is a joy to watch. It's a healthy food for the soul program.

    3. I just found this show. I am amazed and very impressed with this family. I adopted a 2 year old and it is hard. so many things are already set in place. They are being overly nice, but you feel like you need to be to give them time to adjust and to trust. I hope they don't start selling anything.

And she's a Dr! I am impressed. Oh, and love the color of their house and well, all of it!

  13. I don't like to comment about the way people look, but during the panel episode when Christine was alone doing her intimate moments on the couch, she looks like she has aged 10 years since this show began. Robyn has not aged well either. This life takes more of a toll on them than they will ever admit.Christine being afraid of her aunt reminded me of the episode where the kids were with the group from Holding Out Help. She was afraid to let her children participate. She scares me and I used to like her the best.

I am looking forward to tonight's show. Please oh please Browns, don't make this a drama. Well, if they do, just think of the pent up snark we will have!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I was shocked by the Brown's treatment of everyone on the panel. Their behavior was immature, self serving and disturbing to watch. Knowing this group of clowns are raising 17 children makes their behavior more shocking. From the start of this show to the ending, it was like watching a group of insecure middle schoolers pretending to be adults. I cannot fathom the discomfort that must have been felt by their two children that witnessed first hand the behavior of all their parents, sitting in the audience must have been so hard. I felt a bit dirty just watching it on my television! To read that Logan apologized for Sobbin speaks volumes about his maturity but also shows that he suffered embarrassment by their behavior. I don't think that is a first for Logan.

All of the people opposite on the panel were amazing. They seemed kind and caring as well as mature and thoughtful especially when considering the abuse they have all experienced at the hands of polygamy. The gesture by Christines aunt was so caring and obviously came from love and concern, it was painful to watch Christines response. The bathroom seem was so beyond ridiculous.

Watching this from day one I use to think there was genuine love and concern for each other and there seemed to be happiness in the family. As the blinders came off it became clearer each week how hard this lifestyle was but there were still moments of joy. The cookie began to crumble significantly with the addition of Sobbin. It was like adding that one piece brought down the whole deck. Her blatant selfishness and total lack of concern for anyone but herself becomes more evident all the time. When her lying became obvious (the wedding dress) it would have been wise to cut her out of the picture. I don't believe the Brown family was perfect before Sobbin, but it appears that her behavior and manipulation have added a stress that was not there before her. Kodouche's absolute favoritism of her has created more jealousy in the other wives and her sneakiness must also scare the other wives even if they are not honest about it to themselves. The scene where Meri told her of Kodouche's decision to not try for a baby, Sobbin's lack of support for her "best friend" was blatant and Sobbin barely held her joy under control. I have no doubt that Sobbin will bring nothing but misery in the years to come.

I also hope that Janelle and Christine team up and run for the hills. The message of all those that have escaped this lifestyle is one of hope. It was a hard and painful decision I imagine for each of those brave souls, how wonderful to see the amazing and strong men and women they have become. How sad that TLC manipulated them in what could have been an incredible show. I also find it wonderful that even after the manipulation each and every one of them has been gracious enough to share here. Thanks to all who work so hard on this great blog! Thank you Kollene, ChristineMarie, Krystin and William so many will be helped by what you are all doing.

  16. I think the issue that toasts my bread the most with this past episode is how they expect us to just believe that poor Christine is just too afraid of her big bad Auntie the meanie anti polygamist.

Really? What happened to the "bring it on" Christine way back when? Where did the ready to stand up and fight for her polygamist's religious freedoms Christine go? If anyone is a fan of this show they have looked up and viewed the past videos of Christine in the flesh on "Freedom of Polygamy" panels back before the show began filming. She flat out said that they needed a solid court case to bring all the Love and Joy that polygamy brings (sarcasm guys!) to prove that it should be decriminalized. She was ready to fight it out in the courts for her families (and all of those Love and Joy families who never, ever have issues who are hiding....somewhere) rights to freedom of religion.

In my opinion of watching Christine for all these years, and reading her book, I think that she was afraid of her aunt talking about HER, and contradicting her story of her life in Happy Fairly Land growing up. She behaved like she was afraid that the Aunt had some kind of dirt on her that she didn't want coming out.

Christine even describes herself as looking at life through her rose colored glasses and I think this is the most telling piece of her personality. She lives in a box, and she keeps up a fake facade for her own self preservation. Her rose colored glasses are protecting her from whatever she is afraid of. Whether that is the evil ex-church members who may taint her family with their mere presence, the Presbyterian Sharks that are circling her and her children, or some inner demon that she carries with her.

It may also be why she is so good with children, and seems to prefer the presence of the children. That way she can be kept in a childlike place and never have to enter an adult world, she's more of a Peter Pan than Kody. Janelle told Robyn to only have Christine do "the fun things". Christine can't handle being an adult.

    1. Great post Rose. Christine has master the "keeping sweet". She had me fooled. She gets joy out of the completion of tasks. Which is why she wants to decriminalize polygamy. It will make her feel like she accomplished something. Same thing goes for that caramel challenge Kody asked them to do. Christine just had to win.

That is how she validates herself. She also seeks it through her children. She has accepted her life and adapted to it. Doesn't mean that she is happy, but I believe she is the one who is in this the deepest. I wonder if Christine is at the place that Kristyn was at years ago. Sad way to live.

      Delete
    2. Great perspective about Christine. You talking about her not being able to handle being an adult sure makes sense and with each episode she gives more examples of her behavior to support that!

    3. It's true the sister wives insecurities betray their mission statments and their facade of happiness. I feel for the one day a week man time they get and it sure shows in their faces and comments. I am sorry that its like that for them and I too would walk around with tears like Meri, or defensive and repressed Christine, and brave to the end like Janelle and blot old Kody out of my mind and treat him like a pet, but joyful Robyn's even hiding in her jewelry fetish and Kody (we don't see his crap at all and there is likey allot of it)

  18. Janelles comment about having her own back account interested me. Not initially but the fact that she "corrected" it on twitter, I found it weird. I wonder if there will be any backlash from the church since their marriage book doesn't approve of that. It says this: "No woman should ever handle the finances in a celestial family. This must be solely the responsibility of the man, the head of the family"

  20. Great observations Ed and I agree about the Kody creep factor, the hair trigger temper, the controlling triggers he uses for his harem, etc. Their defensiveness last week was so telling, and the way Christine treated her Aunt was abominable. The "Wives" are certainly age regressed. They are unhappy women who cater to a horndog who will keep trading up for someone younger. Robyn thinks she is the Queen Bee and at the moment she may be, that will end soon. Notice how it's always her jumping into the front seat when they all drive somewhere. I'm pulling for Janelle who seems to be the most mature to pull away and get a life of her own. Meri is nothing but a spineless whiner and Christine childish.
Do they ever laugh? I've never seen them have fun, it's always about him.

  21. I found something ironic that gave me a small laugh. There is another fundamentalist church called True and Living Church of Jesus Christ of Saints of the Last Days. It goes by the name TLC.

  22. First time commenter: I have had something on my mind for awhile. Does anyone remember when the show was new and Kody and Meri where discussing the possibly of adding Robyn to the family. Meri and Kody were sitting in a restaurant and Meri had just told Kody that Robyn has been married and had three children and he looked disgusted and blurted out "that's just VULGAR!" I think he shaid he wasn't sure if he could accept that! Fast forward to April 2013 and there is Robyn "explaining" how her purity was stolen and how much she suffered. Perhaps this is the "explanation" that Kody needed in order not to find her so vulgar after all.......

      d. It was destiny

Isn't that sad when you think about what that religion does to women? My question always was, what if your man got alzheimer's? Think of the constant fear in these women.

1 Have you ever worked with Sam Brower?
2 Do you think the more wives a person has, the easier it will be on the wives?

Thanks for all you and your wife have done to shed light on this subject!

    1. Hello Anon
I have never "worked" with Sam Brower, however I have known him for a number of years. For those who don't know him, Sam is a private investigator who has chased down a lot of info about the FLDS. He is a very bright and very good man. He also, BTW, has a book called "Prophet's Prey: My Seven-year Investigation Into Warren Jeffs and the Fundamentalist Church of Latter-Day Saints." He was an informational source for our newspaper in St. George, Utah.

Question 2: Absolutely not. I think there is an underlying friction that never eases or goes away between wives and I think the more there are, the more difficult it becomes. It allows for factions to develop and for them to gang up on each other. I'm rather traditional. I think marriage is something celebrated between two people and no more. And, I wonder what these plyg husbands would think if the shoe was on the other foot and the woman had multiple husbands. I often wonder how they would deal with that.

  25. I just started watching the show this season and probably won't the next. Am curious, does Kody have a job, does he ever spend quality time with his children, toss a ball with his sons, etc.? He reminds me of a Rat Terrier, always shaking his messy mop. They are a cult, nothing more. I feel sad for them all.

  26. Ed, do you think that Kody could be a quality father? I am not saying his kids don't love him, or that he's not nice. It's just that Kollene and Willy saddened me. Those sweet kids think that if a dad doesn't beat you or sexually abuse you, they are a good dad. they also came aaway thinking Kody doesn't do welfare, which is untrue. I wonder what other myths those people are trying to slam into their heads. Shame on the Browns for using the abused.

He is never shown spending time with them, never.

  35. The Browns reject the rejecters i.e. auntie Krystin, of their lifestyle but will be the acceptors of your ca$h for their jewelry..........nice, no conflicts there huh?

  36. Love that Janelle's fitness trainer tweeted support for her. Now that's what I'm talking about.

  37. I'm watching the panel discussion, again, right now. Robyn still pisses me off. She was downright nasty.

    1. Obnoxiously nasty... adding "sweetie" to her comment. I can't stand the drama they create. If they truly believed in what they are doing is so right, and are confident and comfortable in sharing their man then why so defensive? Really?

  38. OMG how dumb do you have to be to see that this polygamy thing is NOT working. You can continue to say that it does, but it doesn't......just watch the show. They were going to be so happy when they moved to L.V, then they were going to be happy when they started their businesses, then the new houses were the answers to all of their problems so they could all be together, but that ain't workin either. They are all jealous, it is evident but they continue to deny it and just continue to do the same things and expect different results. "THINGS" do not make people happy for very long and this won't work for them either. They go to marriage therapy 'FOR COUPLES" not 1 man and 4 women. They go to the marriage counseling and don't want any "painful" advice. This show is a big soap opera with a disasterous ending.

    1. Yes that is the punch line, these wifes feel the jealousy and live it and want it. Like cutters, they cut and crave more, even through the tears and all of the sad crap they are driven for more.

    2. Like the teenaged cutters they want Jealousy to cut them. They crave jealousy envy emotional torture, its a lifestyle plump full of it and their wonderful chosen life they even say santifys them. lol. It is never funny for me to see women chose abusive lifestyles and it always is the case they say they love it. Check out the womens shelters.

  39. If they would get rid of the unnecessary real estate Mariah would have college money.

    1. I was wondering the same thing. Why hasn't Mariah asked that question?

  40. Glad you took down your self-righteous, scolding message to me.

  41. These people make me tired. I have never seen or heard a bigger bunch of dour, whining, defensive, narcissistic people in my life. They need to take a page from "The Little Couple" who never complain about anything. I wish them well especially their innocent children but I can't watch this drivel anymore.
In life you get what you feel you deserve, if these women feel they deserve scraps then that's what they get.

  42. There are big contradictions about money also. They worry about money, then take a big trip to the Midwest to see a foundation community of Mormanism. They never mention the money they must be making from the program, which surely helps them pay for their new houses.

  43. They should have put the money they wasted on counselling towards the kids schooling. They didn't really believe they needed to do the things to make better relationships. Question...if kody died would they remain a family...they all looked like a deer in headlights. They say yes but their faces said, "you've got to be kidding"! I found them interesting at first, now they are so fake and rehearsed its boring. Why do I watch? I wouldn't and don't if I can find anything else on.

  44. The sad tale of this story is Kody - he is a "All About Me" kinda guy. Not an appealing trait. I believe the women could not find another dysfunctional individual to take from them, their money, their self esteem, and sex. Robyn is one cry-baby, victim playing "Poor Me", and now she is the youngest, the others are pushed aside and last, Robyn seems to get her way all the time (spoiled little brat). The people I feel sorry for are the children, no father figure (only when he wants to preach to them). What a role model of a father, jumping from house to house to service the women, so they will go out and work for the family (HIM). This is "One Happy Dysfunctional Family". This is SAD, SAD, SAD, SAD.

  45. I watched that panel discussion finally, and again was totally disturbed by the SW's drama. I simply can't watch these people anymore. I got to wondering what happens after the cameras are off and started to try to compare them to another reality family, that's large, loving and monogomous... the DD family. Run that comparison through your head and it's quite evident that SW are messed up. Just my own observation. Thanks for the great blog and keeping me informed because I can't watch this crew anymore

  46. Wonderful new stream. I had to wait until I had another computer ( last one died), to see the BLOG. How I missed it !!! The Klowns story continues, but for how long. 5 wives was much more realistic. Christine shame, shame on you.I would ask where you get your values from, but that is not funny. Janelle just run.. Please. You are the best thing in this family, next to the kids. Why did you go back, not for paternal attention for your kids. Love this Blog, best laughs I have ever had.

  49. yes it is, ED. used incessantly ad nauseam by so many young mormon mommies for the past decade or so. i loathe it and would love to go a whole day JUST ONCE without hearing it while visiting that mormon zion state.

  50. What a treat to read a post by Ed Kociela on SWB, which constantly delivers treats already. Besides being fair in his factual presentation, he has thoughtful insights I enjoy. I saw him on Doris' show; he has a gentle demeanor that is as appealing as his expertise.
