I Scour the Internet: The Pre-Season Finale Edition

Now isn't this interesting? The Learning Channel has truncated the run of Sister Wives' 4th season by showing two one hour episodes back to back on Sunday night.

What does this mean?

Well, to tell you the truth, it sort of reminds me of what HBO did to a limping Big Love when it drastically cut down the number of episodes in its final season to make way for Game of Thrones. Makes you wonder has My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding usurped Sister Wives number one position with TLC?

Hmmmm.....

Anyway, since the 4th (and hopefully not final) season is about to close out, let's check out what the 'Official' TLC website has to say about the season finale. Looks like the first hour is titled Leaving the Nest - and its about Logan deciding where to go to college, and the wives are "..on the verge of fulfilling their dream of bringing the family back together..." Maybe a wealthy benefactor has taken pity on the Browns' predicament and given them a couple of million dollars to build their dream mansions. Or maybe they figured out a way to have their family corporation buy the houses instead of relying on their own, very sad credit profiles.

Or maybe, they will move into double wides in the Nevada desert? Guess we'll have to wait until Sunday's show to find out for sure.

The second hour is actually an interview  with NBC's Natalie Morales to talk about their book, life in Las Vegas and an interview with the 5 oldest teenagers. Interesting...Sounds like the Browns are still trying to sync up the stories they told on the TV show with the stories they wrote in their book. Good luck, cuz they need it!!

So here's hoping that season 5 will not be the last season, and that season 6 is but a few months away... I really want to see their cross country journey to Nauvoo Il...

So what's happening on the Twitter scene?

It was kind of funny how the Browns stopped tweeting while they were on the Nauvoo excursion. Well, some of them did.

Oops, looks like Janelle didn't get the memo...

And of course, there was the obligatory Father's Day tweets from Kody's wives...

Meri's still in high school mode...OK we get it, he's your Lover and you Love him, yeah yeah yeah...

And Kody trying to sound like he's a great Dad, but misses the boat...busy life doing what, exactly?

Hey, wait a minute. There's a wife missing...Yep, nothing but crickets from wife #3 Christine....

And it looks like both Robyn and Christine missed tweeting about Logan's graduation. But at least fans got tweets from Janelle, Meri and Kody...

I'm hoping Kody showed up for  Logan's graduation ceremony...

Last but not least, looks like somebody decided to take on poor Robyn and Christine...

Interesting that Robyn has " loved ones of every race and religion." I say SHOW ME!! And Rev. Danielle doesn't count. And I guess the no response from Christine was because she was too busy making Mock Tapioca...yummy...(blecch!)

So until next time just remember, I scour the internet, so you don't have to!

  1. Make's you wonder what Christine is upset about, doesn't it? Do you think it's Kody pulling away from the AUB? I do. He's denying Christine's heritage! Great Scoop!

    1. I think there was one episode where someone asked if all of the wives were happy with the Kodester at the moment and Christine said no, she was mad at him about something. Poor Kody didn't have a 100% approval rating.

    2. Where does it mention denying C's heritage? I'm not seeing it in the article above?

    3. That comes from them not celebrating Joseph Smith's birthday in a previous episode, which Christine wasn't happy about. I doubt she feels they are staying on the path.

  2. MS my thoughts exactly--almost. I do have a few devil's advocate sort of ideas, though:
1)To be fair, Christine has never been a big tweeter.
2)As for the race thing, those kids of Meri's brother look about 1/4 some sort of
Asian; so that's probably how they connect to every other race in the world.
3)I believe that the Twitter verbot was during the actual filming, to avoid
allowing their critics to show up and call them hypocrits on camera--you know
TLC would have loved that just for the controversy, though, since the show is
    losing viewers every episode.
4)I do no think they are smart enough to realize that their viewers recognize that
they are liars. Kody thinks he's a rock star, and only a very small percentage of
    viewers are "jerks".

    3. Lobotomized, I guess we are the green meanies, although we've written several nice articles... when we can find something nice! What Kody doesn't get that I think is that those who swan over him, turn around and talk worse about him! They just want to get a look at him. no one in their right mind would marry into that bunch. Although, many I am sure would help the children.

  3. IF Kody left the AUB and Christine left him to stay loyal to her family? first I am sure she would be rewarded with a good reassignment to a better more stable family that could give her third and last wife position. No more Robin, that alone makes it worth the trouble. AND she could make a ton on the real kody brown story ; ). So if she does this and her children stayed brown would bonus mom meri happily raise the kids? just a thought.

    2. What does AUB stand for? And it seems to me that they just take out the parts of 'religion' that suit them best and make up their own. Maybe that's why they don't have a church to attend. They're the only members!

      Delete
    3. "What does AUB stand for"

It stands for Apostolic United Brethren. Christine Brown's grandfather Rulon Allred was the first prophet. That's why she's considered a 'blue blood' polygamist.

Read all about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostolic_United_Brethren

      Delete
    4. Thank goodness it was her grandfather that was their first prophet and not her grandmother - otherwise they would be the Apostolic United Cistern!

To quote Wikipedia: The cistern was the genesis of the modern bidet. (Quote taken only mildly out of context for the sake of humor. I did use the entire sentence, though, which is more than can be said for your average political ad.)

      Delete
    5. In the polyg world, kids stay with the mom and stepdads replace bio dads. Robyn making her kids call kody daddy isn't unusual in their world. So Christine's kids go with her and meri loses her bonus kids.

  4. Truncated, wow had to google before I could read on...to shorten. Wonder if all the "mock" businesses, memories and food have led TLC shortening the seasons since all the history of this family seems to be rewritten constantly. I don't think TLC vetted these folks at all.
The episodes are so repetitive with the same old video clips, why they moved to Vegas, how they get a very spiritual buzz when courting and let's not forget Janelle working out in slow motion. Same thing over and over.

No doubt Christine's raving tweet is about FLDS is laying ground work for a new "fundamental Mormon sect"....Kingdom of Delusional Yahhos...K.O.D.Y.

Wonder if their road trip was filmed for next "season"?

  7. I stick with my earlier prediction on the finale. The first hour will be Logan' graduation, Kody whining about his dream homes, and 45 minutes of "flashbacks" of their life in Vegas.

The second hour will consist of boring questions about how they handle their celebrity. The teens will only have the opportunity to answer one or two questions about their life in Vegas and future plans for college before Kody jumps in and makes it all about him.

Since nothing happened this season, I cannot imagine anything that could possibly serve as a cliffhanger. Maybe testing Meri's eggs? Or maybe a decision whether to return to Lehi (though I doubt it)? Or maybe announcing Ro-bun's newest pregnancy (yawn- we already know that she is fertile and getting sweaty booty as much as Kody can sneak over there).

    ReplyDelete

    1. Maybe Robyn will do a test to see if there is a new bun in the oven and that will be the cliffhanger.

OT and on a side note; if Meri so much wants a baby why doesn't she do IVF (just hypothetically). It seems her uterus is OK, so she doesn't need Robyn no character for a bebe.

    2. I did see a preview of the Finale where it SEEMS Janelle gets pissy over Meri getting a bigger house?!? Then OF COURSE Douchebag starts in about how the seperate houses ARE NOT AN OPTION ANYMORE!! lol, whatever Kody!! Anywho, it made it sound AS IF it's a recent dilema with the houses but it's probably just some Ancient History Bitch Fest between Meri & Janelle w/just more of the same ol' Hot Air from Kody!

I agree w/Lobotmized that the Season Finale will be more of the same BS they've been shoveling all season....a bunch of Nothing!! I do think from that preview that they will try & drag out the housing situation longer..Big Yawn!

I suspect we are being set up for an eventual return to Lehi. I got that impression in the ads for next weeks show. I don't think it will happen this season, but I do think that is eventually happen as the money will eventually run out. What better excuse than bringing the family back together.

I think you hit all three likely scenarios. And since the news is already out that Logan is not *going away* to college (no matter how many recent teasers they have put out about it)...instead, attending right in the area at least for now, it will likely be those which you have mentioned.

And of course, what finale in KodyWorld would be complete without a show of tears from Robchin for one stupid reason or another. !?!?

What amazes me is that if TLC/BrownKlown is reading TLC....and *someone* has to be given how many specific bits in episodes have been shown almost as rebuttals after a topic has been thoroughly fleshed out here, especially this season.....
Then why haven't they gotten the message that the couch chats are about as entertaining/ watchable/ believable as Sperminator's dripping ass ???

Really does make you wonder if someone at TLC wants grounds to dump this show per contingencies in a contract ???

However, it IS a strange attraction. Anyone remember the Gong Show.
It was awful but you had to watch !!!

  12. Here's the deal: Meri hasn't always referred to cameltoeboy by the pet name lover. So, her sudden decent into over zealous proclaimations of her love by referring to him as lover really reveals her total desperation to keep her status of alpha bitch. Really! After I read off of the TLC page RNC and cameltoeboy's falling in love, I have to say that I am more than ever convinced that Meri is struggling with her need to do freak but not having freakabillity pleasures with the sister wives. I mean, honestly, the entire reason she is so evil to the other wives is based upon her self hate and hate that cameltoeboy has the women and all she has is saggyballcameltoeboy. Okay, that is a little too graphic, but when one tries to create an illusion that you have this spectacular man and it is all but even mediocre, well, I say call it like we see it.
Meri, dear, you can call him lover, you can cling to his arm, you can talk about your spiritual connection but we see you.
And, I cannot get off of here without writing to Dear Janelle.
    Dear Janelle:
by now, I'm sure you have read our letters and comments about your messed up family. I only hope that we are able to put a little spark of reasoning in your heart so that you say, hmmm, maybe I do deserve better. Maybe I do deserve a full time man; enough money to survive; respsect from my peers; and happiness for my family. I once more implore you to get out. Let TLC make a show about you leaving that mess that you are now calling a family.
    that is all
    And one more:
    Dear Cameltoeboy:
You are really pathetic. I cannot even put into words how inadequate you are as a father, a husband, and a human. Your desire to shaft the system and all those you have financial dealings with eludes me. And, you should hit the gym instead of spanking the monkey.

    5. Hmmm...color me totally cynical. I'm so not believing anything that comes from any of them at this point that IF janelle flew the coop and was showcased as the TLC spinoff, why wouldn't I believe that it would be as fake as this show?
Do we really want to see Kodouche re-re-courting Janelle? Do we really want to see the other wives in repetitive coffee @ Applebees fretting over Kody...and oh yeah, Jannelle?
All the while, wondering if this is simply the next great Brown hoax. A plot line filled with drama as only the Browns can do it, with King K behind the curtain counting the new TLC money. The season finale of course would be will they all reunite.
I'm not so sure I can muster up support for another Brown fiasco with guest appearances by all the usual players.

  13. I'm sure this has been asked and answered b/f on this site, but I'm new to this terrific blog. My question is if Janelle did take your suggestion, zelda1, could she leave w/ all of her 6 kids or would their religion require that the children remain w/ saggyballscameltoeboy who wets his pants?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I doubt very seriously that any of cameltoeboy's other wives would raise any of Janelle's kids. Likewise, I don't see cameltoeboy getting to eager to keep the kids because he doesn't interact with them now but every four days. The only one that would possibly have room is Meri and Meri likes her orderly world. Plus, Janelle and Meri have had a contentious relationship, or according to people who have read the book. I doubt that he would keep his kids. RNC kept her kids from her first husband. Most women who escape polyg keep their kids and seem to do so without problems from the baby daddy.

      Delete
    2. Thanks for your answer, Z! :)

The sadness in Janelle's eyes is so evident. So many people have commented on it, and we have sympathy for her. Her children seem to be doing the best out of all the 17 kids, and I just hope that she has a sense of how many people are hoping that she will extricate herself from this situation. I think it would be fantastic if TLC would take your amazing idea about offering her her own show if she leaves Camel Toe Douche who needs Depends.

I'm afraid that b/c of the blue blood ties that Christine has w/ the AUB, she'll remain trapped in her current situation. I do like that she's showing some spunk, though. Maybe she'd leave if Janelle does.

If this happens, Meri and Kody would be free to be bitten by the love bug again, leaving a very p.o'd Robin to babysit and also craft a garrot to follow through on her threat to "strangle" Kody if he is looking for Wife #5.

      Delete
    3. Most plyg are not seeking out the limelight that comes with his "mega-family status" I think Christine would be happy to absorb any of these kids, but all of Janelle's kids will most likely run like the wind as far away as possible. They all sound like Janelle tells them on a daily basis to do anything they can to escape this lifestyle. BTW, normal people so not refer to sacred religious beliefs as a "lifestyle choice". They are obviously pandering to the LGBT community with the phrase. They first started using it after the trip to Boston, when the phrase was discussed in the restaurant.

      Delete
    4. Kids go with the woman in polyg. I don't think janelle will leave bc she would have little support. Her mom is married to kodys dad and she has no relationship with her other relatives. Christine won't leave polygamy, but I could see her getting reassigned.

      Delete
    5. i think Christine would be up for that reassignment in a heartbeat as long as she was assured she was 3rd and LAST wife and she clicked w/the other two wives. The man in and of himself is secondary for her. He just needs to tell her she's special. She's done having kids tho so, that would be a problem for the guy looking for his 3rd wife.

  14. I am in monogamous and fulfilling relationship with a kind, loving man. So it is beyond difficult to try to put myself in any of the wive's shoes. But when I do, I see waves and waves of pain that can sometimes be pushed down or pushed back, but are always there. I believe Meri really loves Kody, and because this lifestyle is something he wanted, she supports it, because she wants to support him.
When one is in a situation that is so painful, there are various ways to handle your pain. You can check out emotionally - distance yourself, so it doesn't hurt as much. Or you can try to control the situation. Does it lessen the pain of knowing that your partner is intimate with others?. Maybe in some weird way it does. Maybe it helps her to feel that she is calling the shots. She gets to notice the cute girl, tell Kody about her, decide if he should test the waters.
I don't know. But I don't think there is anything remotely lesbian about her. I just don't get that vibe. Not the teeniest bit.
I think this is all about trying to feel that she has choices. When really she doesn't. Hence the nickname lover for Kody. It makes the rest of us wince, because it is pathetic. But what do any of them really have? They have one fourth of a man, at best. And those of us who are following Kody's antics, know that that isn't much.

    1. I agree, Meri isn't gay. In the first season she told Kody "your lovesick and the only cure is marriage." She also said "if he's weird with the other one, he gets weird with me." In order to have Kody happy, and not take aggression out on her, she procures other women for him to keep him happy.

    4. I agree, anonymous, I think Meri loves Kody so she goes along with what he wants. I get the feeling she would be very wary about the whole plural marriage thing if she allowed herself to go down that path. But her faith says not to so she doesn't or tries hard to keep her mind from going there. Good analysis.

    5. P....I felt the same thing at first, when I started watching the show. I had not seen season 1, because I swore I would not watch it. Then I saw an episode and I was so curious to see how this family juggled their lives. I actually felt sorry for Meri in the beginning. She kept eluding to the fact that she was so happy to have Robyn now because she had always wanted a close relationship with her s.w.'s...yada yada yada. Fast forward and after reading, researching, watching body language, and the tid-bits that have poured out through their own book in their own words, I no longer feel sorry for her.

I agree that the pain of this lifestyle can either turn you into a mean girl, a zombie, or someone who overcompensates to win the affection of their man.

I've never gotten the lesbian vibe either. My theory is that her pain stems from her feelings of inadequacy for not being able to produce heirs to Kody's throne. This started her vicious cycle of anger, and it has been stated here many times that she was mean to Janelle (per Janelle's words in the book) and had no relationship with her sister wives. Apparently, from reading other posts, didn't someone say she and Kody would hold hands under the blankets while Janelle was in the room? The reason I don't feel sorry for Meri, is because of all the women, financially it would be easiest for her to leave. She has one child that is almost an adult, she is very capable of working, etc. etc. Also, she chose this lifestyle.

She loves to wield her power and show it to the other ladies. She has eluded many times that she and Kody had a really rough spot. Christine has said many times that she and Kody had the best relationship and it was so amazing and easy. This is why I think she brought Robyn in. Not sure if you saw the miscarriage episode, but Meri miscarried a little over a year before Christine got pregnant, AGAIN. Can you imagine after finally getting pregnant about 13 years or so after the first one....losing that baby. Then having your sister wife easily get pregnant for the 6th time when you are longing to have that adoration and attention back from your husband? I can only imagine the pain that must cause. My theory has been all along that she brought Robyn in to hurt Christine. Little did she know that she had met her match. Robyn is just as crafty and I have a feeling there is going to be a battle royale someday over who gets to keep the title of "Lover."

      Delete
    6. I do feel sorry for Meri. For all of them - the women and their kids I mean. Their family breaks my heart. Kody Brown doesn't deserve any of them, any of their love. What does it feel like to live like that? Maybe it feels like you are screaming all the time inside your head. Or like you can't breathe. I suppose if you don't really love your husband, you have some slim kind of chance for sanity inside a plural marriage. But to be really in love, and sharing him? It must make you a little crazy after awhile - desperate crazy. I'm not defending any unkind or manipulative or passive/aggressive behavior - of which there seems to be plenty. Just that I can't even imagine how they must feel. When they are in bed, at night, alone, which is most of the time, thinking about growing older, about the choices they've made.

I really find it hard to believe Christine when she says her marriage to Kody was easy. I found that marriages all have their ups and downs and one thing it is not is easy.

      Delete
    9. I think Christine is having selective memory in her "easy" (just like Robyn and her mother's lifelong honeymoon marriage b.s.) By comparison to how crappy Christine's relationship became w/the addition of Robyn, her marriage up to this point probably was easy. It's all a matter of perspective.

      Delete
    10. I haven't seen anything "easy" for Christine or Janelle by any stretch of the imagination. When Janelle was so adamant about readily doing it all over again, I was actually aghast. Queen Bitch Meri, alone, would have had me hightailing it. I just don't get it.

This is a bit off topic, but having a hard time posting: Kodouche wants to be informed as to kissing, wants to sway their religious lives, wants them to choose HIS choice of college, but DOESN'T want to pay for their educations while enternaining the notion of a costly procedure to have yet another baby they can't afford. Can NOT put lipstick on that pig!

  23. So I've read up on the basics of the AUB or whatever their faith is called. Here's my question--if you really think plural marriage is the key to your celestial kingdom, what does that mean in terms of logistics? I mean, there are roughly equal numbers of men and women so how is that supposed to work out? I know some of the fundies kick boys/men out but this group doesn't seem quite that nutty. I'm all about live and let live and they can do what they want but I just wondered what would happen if all the ladies got married off and some of the Kodester's sons were bachelors.

  29. Those tweets about what a great father he is are pathetic! He is not only an amazing father but an amazing and wonderful father! When? Where? How? Couldn't prove that "fact" by the viewers of the Sister Wives show. He walks in, maybe kisses one or two on the head and breezes back out to do something fun for himself.

Maybe they're tweeting that garbage in the hopes that someone will believe it because I'm sure they can't believe he's an amazing and wonderful father. If he was he'd actually parent once in a while. And no, Janelle, Christine, Meri and Robyn I do not mean in a group setting where he's laying down rules for when and where you can kiss and who you have to consult first.

In fact, consulting him before kissing your girl/boyfriend is beyond creepy in a voyeuristic sort of way. To all the kids DO NOT "consult" with Kody the Kreep before indulging in a few kisses! Please!

  30. @ Anonymous J: the AUB and the FLDS splintered a while back (I want to say 50 years or so ago, but don't quote me on it.) They both believe in a fundamentalist interpretation of Mormon doctrine, including plural marriage, but the AUB doesn't think the FLDS prophets are valid. It's the prophets that apparently have been leading the push towards child brides and isolation for the FLDS. The AUB seem almost mainstream in comparison.

Meri's sister wanted her kids to remain with their father after her death. Meri would have taken them perhaps, but they had a father and a sister wife willing to keep them. Janelle doesn't have to even think about leaving the kids behind. Kody would have to go to court to get visitation.
They are not in a muslim brand of polygamy wherein the kids belong to the father. The children here belong to both parents and are primarily awarded to the mom, certainly not to any sisterwife.

So he is so sympathy to Meri's loss he makes her watch another wife bring a child successfully to term?

    1. Yes, they married in May, but the episode was shown in the Fall. The story about Kody paying the daughter was related to Christine's miscarriage. She had a lot of medical complications from her last miscarriage, and decided she did not want more children. Kody paid one of his daughters (either Aspyn or Mykelti, not sure which one) to talk her into having another baby (Truely).

  36. Zelda1, I read your post and thought it was so excellent. I hope you don't mind me re-posting it for other members to see. So spot on!

    zelda1June 20, 2012 2:41 PM

And while I'm thinking about it:
In order to prove what something is by telling what it isn’t is one of the most rhetorically sound methods that came through Aristotle; however, that form of definition cannot be used to justify human action.
The argument for polygamy is that poly lifestyle is better because non polyg men cheat and non poly couples get divorced and women need help in child rearing. In all three of these premises, there exists the generalization that only men outside of polyg cheat, that men and women outside of polygamy divorce; that women need multiple people to help raise their children.
Each of those premises is based on generalizations that are as false as a non polyg saying that all polygs marry minor girls. An argument for something cannot be based on generalized premises that cannot be proven.
Divorce happens in polyg families too: Cameltoeboy married two women who are divorced. Robyn, Christine, and Janelle’s mothers are all divorced from their biological fathers.
Cheaters happen in polyg families too: The difference is that a cheating polyg spouse just convinces his wives that god called upon him to marry another woman. While I cannot prove it, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exists.
Women need help raising their children: That seems to be one of the most common myths that polyg men use to suck women into the vacuum. Women have raised children alone for centuries and we have seen that having a sister wife doesn’t provide you with support; in fact, sister wives often create chaos that hampers normal child/parent relationship development, especially relationships between the father, mother, and children. Plus, in all four of cameltoeboy’s wives, not one of them seems to agree upon college or no college; normal teen cussing or horrible teen cussing.
My point is that the ideology of multiple wives is based upon one man’s irrational thinking. In fact, that ideology of having multiple wives seems to be all about older men getting younger wives to keep their marriage bed warm. Plus, I have read the bible a million times; have translated it from Latin to English and attempted Greek to English. I have a friend who is teaching me Hebrew and I hope to translate the bible from Hebrew to English. And, having read the bible and studied the bible from an academic standpoint, I have never read where multiple wives was an acceptable social or religious practice. When the men took other wives, bad things happened: Abraham’s first child was sent to the desert with his mother to die; Rachael and Leah fought were so jealous of each other they brought their maids into the bed for Jacob to boink to produce more kids and those kids grew up to sell one of their brothers into bondage. So, multiple wives usually end badly for the wives and for the generations to follow. Look at the nation of Islam and nation of Israel.

    3. Its tougher for Muslim polygamy because law dictates each wife must be treated equally. Meaning each wife must have the same financial benefits, housing, etc. Imagine how hard it'd be to have to provide each wife with the same amount of financial support and emotional support? That's why most men don't attempt without proper finances.

  37. I wonder whether Sister Wives has gone according to TLC's plan for this show.
TLC has much experience in this genre of Reality Shows, having had many come and go from their stable. They seem to be very much in control of their "products."

Is there an expected shelf-life?? Is there an expected ebb and flow to viewer loyalty? Is there a prescribed strategic agenda for keeping viewer/fan attention as episodes begin to overlap and contradict, and viewers start to question and connect the dots for accuracy and actual *reality.*

Kate and Co. certainly had their 120 minutes of fame before the fall. The Duggers may be reaching their credibility/viewer attention limit. Little People is now reduced to occasional one-offs. Surely there are many more examples...

    Specific to SW....
Now that the Brown Klan's inconsistencies and outright contradictions and unsavory financial history is out on the table (courtesy of TLC, I might add) and their own book does nothing to up their stock on integrity, did TLC know this all along?

Someone up thread made the observation that perhaps TLC didn't do a thorough job of vetting these people prior to offering them contracts. I wonder if maybe the opposite was true and it all has gone according to plan ???

The best thing to come out of SW is this blog. *This* is the real entertainment of the show. Continued thanks to Cynical Jinx and Mister Sister !!

    2. I think there are still a lot of fans that really care about Kate and the Duggars. I also think their shows would provde much more entertainmen than sisterwives. But, celebrity did a terribl thing to Kate...she became too hard to work with. I think that diva attitude came about in part because she had no privay and because her husband treated her so badly. When the show first came on, they provided a nice mix between seeing the parents dynamics with each and the dynamics of the parents and kids. It was interesting to see how she made it work: buying groceries, cliping coupons, cooking large meals and hiding vegetables inside the meat. I loved seeing how they fed the kids. The Duggars too. While I don't agree with their relgious views and the larg family, I did enjoy watching how the made it work on long trips and how they saved money. Those were fullfilling in the sense that we saw two families that we could relate to but we also saw the extreme and how the families handled the extreme. I learned from Kate how to feed a large amount of toddlers at one seting: when my grandkids came to visit me, I sat them all at the table, and went from child to child. I also learnd how she used food to provide comfort to the kids: routine breakfast food on Sundays and special foods on other days. I saw as an audience member how children respond and my own childrearing skills were validated. Likewise, I learn from the Duggars how to delegate simple tasks to younger children and how to compliment the children for helping and being good. I now make my grandkids look me in the eyes when I am telling them something...it works.
I learn nothing about child rearing from the Browns. I actually see how they are messing up and I get so frustrated.
So, the reality of the sisterwives is that it does not logically fit any of those reasons that I watch reality programs. So, I beg for drama and they even fail at drama. Sigh...they cannot do anything right.

      Delete
    3. I suppose everyone knows by now how much I love the Duggars :D The one thing I DO give the Duggars credit for--the thing that makes the Duggars show work--is that they primarily show the family interracting. Though JB and M, and the adult kids spend a lot of time traveling around giving paid speeches, the show does not focus on lust for fame or "cashing in".

      Delete
    4. I think the issue comes from the culture-the women are told to have as many children as possible, but nothing about raising them or disciplining them. With that many children, they need a shared discipline plan that all the parents agree on, or the kids will try to manipulate or chose the parent who's the weakest at implementing discipline.

    5. Zelda,

I sincerely respect your opinions about Kate G. :-))
*To the viewing audience* she did a lot of things right. However, as witnessed by a relative who lives close to her, the real picture was a bit different. She *always* had lots of help (though not on camera, obviously) with the kids. Always !!
Her shopping trips were staged. Rarely did she do any actual shopping. No problem with that...who would want to (or could) haul 6 infants and 2 pre-schoolers to the store. But her *diva* personality was known long before TLC came to town. Neighbors at both locations where they lived will attest to that.

Agree about the Duggers innate agenda. They are true to their image.
But like all shows, their fanbase is a bit bored now and voicing opinions as the show now smacks of redundancy. Plus, they too have somewhat succumbed to *being celebrities* with all the self-betrayals that choice can bring.

*Such risky business opening oneself and one's family to the public stage, especially if children are involved.* I cringe now at any of theses types of shows where children are unwitting participants.

But I agree...... KodyWorld is the biggest mess of all !!!

    6. I respect Zelda1's opinions, too, but have heard and read many things about Kate G. that make me think she was not at all who she seemed to be, at least in the first few seasons....I believe she was the one who treated Jon poorly, not the other way around, I believe he tried his best to stick it out with her for the kids' sakes, but then could not take her any more...if you watch any of the last seasons of her show, TLC did a great job of showing her true colors...this is my opinion only....

How many "options" are in the AUB to have all of these plural marriages?
So,technically...since Robyn's older 3 have no biological ties to the rest of the kids except Sol to date, they can be 'sealed' to one of the Brown biological kids...when they are adults, of course.

I have several step-brothers...and that would have been weird. But, having your ex-sister in law become your sister wife, or your mother in law become your "bonus mom" is not odd in their world, so I wondered how often the kids, although somewhat raised as siblings but not related end up married.

    1. One question I have wondered but have not seen addressed about the AUB is: I have heard of cases in which a man married both a mother and her teenaged daughter. Would the AUB sanction this if the girl were already "of age"? Perhaps Ex-AUB could weigh in.

Even though Kody and his harem have repeatedly professed that their motivation to do this show, exposing themselves and their children to public scrutiny, was to *educate* the viewing public about Polygamy and about *their* religious convictions...none of that has been clearly or credibly provided by them during these 3 seasons.

  40. Just some musings:

This is the first reality show I’ve seen so I have nothing to use in comparison. I started watching because I read “Escape” by Carolyn Jessop and wanted to see what a polygamist family was like. I thought the first season was interesting when they tried to show how they really lived. There was one episode in particular where Janelle and I think it was Christine were showing the pantry and explaining how they buy in bulk etc. to save money. I also thought Meri making pajamas was a cute and cost-saving Christmas present idea. If these things were scripted, at least it appeared like activities that a family such as this would actually do.

Now the show is all about eating out, buying expensive (and some unappreciated) gifts, expensive dates, expensive vacations and Kody’s fun with paintball, motorcycles, target shooting etc. Oh, and I can’t leave out the boring Q&As. If they don’t want to answer sex questions, then stop choosing them for the Q&As.

Every time we see a restaurant scene the women are eating fries, chips, fried food and desserts. No wonder they’re gaining weight. Why don’t we ever see them power-walking around the neighborhood? How about joining Weight Watchers? They could have weekly weigh-in sessions at the end of each episode. If that’s not motivation to lose weight I don’t know what is.

I think the reason Janelle hasn’t gotten a job is because Kody wants her to be free for the talk show circuit and other appearances they may have to boost their celebrity.

This could have been an interesting show but if the next season is the more of the same, I’m done.

I totally agree. They pick the questions only to draw attention to the sex thing. Please. I don't think Christine was none too happy over the sex question and you could tell she expected it because her face went sour before the question was read. But, Kody picked that question because it was about him pleasing four women. They do not look too sexually pleased to me. All four are getting fatter and fatter and they are all very unhappy. With the right pleasure, most of us can put up with a lot of stress...these women fall apart and cry at the dop of a hat.

Well there *was* one ep where Kody and Robyn went walking or jogging or something for about 32 seconds. and during the diet woes ep, Janelle was seen to be picking out veggies at the Chinese buffet they went to...while they were "working out" with probably the most ineffective, unmotivating personal trainer ever to be on TV. Those ladies need some motivation - and just the prospect of shame on the TV isn't going to do it. obviously it hasn't done it after two years or so of being obese on national television. The motivation has to come from within, not without. and that's not just my opinion, that's a fact jack. :)

Not sure if it helps anyone with time frame but in season one, episode 2, courting fourth wife... There is a calendar not once but twice in the show. Kody drives 5 hrs with teenagers in tow to babysit Robchin's kids and when Robchin is putting on her make up there is a September calendar on her wall next to bathroom. Well the 1st is on a Tuesday. That would make it 2009, becuz there is no year on it I looked up what year that September started on a Tuesday. Then just a few seconds later when Kody greets Robchin there is another household hand written calendar/schedule in dining room, same month September with the 1st on a Tuesday.
Just came across it when I froze Netflix and said huh, here is a date stamp of filming. If you have Netflix check it out.

Again in season 1,episode 3, wives on the move...same calendar in hall by bathroom, now it is March 2010. This is when Robchin is packing and the klan is coming to move her to Utah. Soooo according to robchins calendars ...

    2. They actually talked about this in their book. Kody and Robyn had a much-longer-than-expected courtship BECAUSE of the television show. I'll explain:

Robyn's counsin attends the same church that the Brown's attended in Lehi, Utah. Robyn visited her cousin one weekend and attended church with her. According to their story, she noticed Kody right away during services.

Later (that same weekend?), Robyn attended a church-sponsored dance with the same cousin, a dance that Meri and Kody were also attending. Meri and Robyn began talking, and Meri pushed Kody to ask Robyn to dance. They immediately "felt the spark", but didn't pursue anything immediately because Robyn still lived hours away.

Flash forward over the next few weeks, and Kody can't stop thinking about Robyn. He believed she felt the same connection, so he asked her cousin about Robyn. The match-making cousin told Robyn to drop everything and come to Lehi, even giving her money for gasoline to make the trip. She did, and began getting to know the Brown family. They were not yet officially courting, as Kody said he recognized that he could not support an additional wife and more children.

During this time, Christine and Kody were still very active with the polygamist groups in the area, and had been approached by at least one producer interested in telling their story. Christine turned him down, but Kody said that he was interested in doing a show if any other offers came about.

Enter Timothy Gibbons and Christopher Poole, producers interested in a series depicting the Brown's lives as polygamists. Together with Figure 8 Films, they began documenting the Brown family for a television show.

This was the revelation Kody had been waiting for - the ability to support another wife and more children - and he began officially courting Robyn. The set a wedding date, but pushed it back to accomodate a film schedule, as the production company wanted to both pay for and show footage of the wedding reception. Robyn said she made the decision to push the wedding back even further because she felt that it was a disservice to Kody's first three wives to begin the series with her wedding, rather than showing the life the Brown family had built and maintained for the past decade and a half.

If hairstyles are strange (like the mystery of Meri's hair length) it's because the episodes don't actually air in the order that they are filmed. This may be a reality show, but it is still edited and produced. :-)

    3. archergirl--- that can all be perfectly true...but the truth is still that the browns and tlc lied to viewers by acting like the wedding was in October. It was in May.

    4. This sounds like the sleuthing some do when trying to find the "last one standing" when watching "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette".

I am sick of this show but I wish TLC would take charge of the reins and insist on some reality filming or find another family.

      Kody ruins the show.

    5. In the show this season where Christine and Robyn have their Applebee's Heart to Heart, Christine mentions that Robyn has been involved with Kody or "been in their lives" for 30 months. If that ep was filmed in January, then that would put the courting at starting approximately July 2009.

And I agree that the decision for Figure 8 Films (again, they are the actual producers of the show, and are the ones who probably pay Brown Family Entertainment - NOT TLC directly) to feature the Browns was no doubt the willingness to "marry" Robyn on the show.

  42. Amused
I am so weary over cameltoeboy and his "wives" wanting to validate or legitamize their marriages and have all everyone accept it as being sanctioned by god and all of the prophets from way back. But, what really pisses me off more is that they put their proof out there by saying look at our famiy and here we are just like you, and then we say, no, not really, you are not just like us and no you have not legitamized polyg and then we become haters. Only those facebook commenters and texters who fawn all over cameltoeboy and his harem are even acknowledged. My angst is that while they say they want to open America up through discourse about their way of life and their religious convictions, not one of them will respong to those of us who do not buy their argument. They are all one sided: you accept us or we won't talk to you. Watch our show but don't point out our faults. Be our addoring fans who do not ask questions.
Blindly he leads and blindly he wants us to follow. I say to cameltoeboy: You have yet to prove that you or your lifestyle is anything near what I have wit my family. Your style breeds chaos and pain; my style is nurturing and loving. So, until he and his wives are able to provide proof that their way is equal to or better, and until he and his wives are able to carry on communication with those of us who have concerns, I'm afraid I will continue to look for the cracks in his oh-so-flawed-logic.

    1. Weary right there with you, Zelda !!!

Beyond the apparent and just plain stupid, illogical things said and done by these people....by *these *parents*....there is an arrogance and thinly veiled hostility toward those not like themselves.
Whatever the hell their concept of *themselves* is.

They hijack buzz words and catch-phrases from this and that process to effect authenticity and competence. Kody just helps himself to whatever *sounds good* and what will wow the audience or prospective benefactor.

But 3 seasons of this show has shown THE BROWNS to be about nothing more than a ego-crazed, me-me pumped guy who wants LOTS of pieces of the proverbial cake available to have and to eat.
And four self-trapped women and mothers who would rather settle for rationed spousal devotion/support, as well as settle for what amounts to duty sex to fill the celestial cribs.

Really, by their own performances, what more is there to know about these people??

    2. What really annoys me is how Kody and wives make a big show on how they want to just be treated the same as everyone else, i.e. just like regular married people, but then when they interact with other people (example - the Mexican tour guides, the Lamaze training group. the midwife, the florist...etc etc...) they make a HUGE DEAL of announcing *COMPLETELY UNSOLICITED, mind you* that "WE'RE POLYGAMISTS!!! See how special and DIFFERENT WE ARE? My Name is Kody Brown and I have four, count em FOUR wives!" I've said this before, but with each show that airs, I am more and more convinced it's not primarily about sex for Kody Brown, it's the POWER and the attention he gets. Him announcing how they are polygamists is like a little kid jumping up and down and saying LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME...no difference really. So it's NOT about sex, except with Robyn perhaps...

I would love it if just once when this immature behavior got thrown back in their face with ,"Why do you feel the need to tell me, a stranger, right off the bat that you're committing a felony and proud of it? Does this mean I'm bound to report you?" and then just be quiet and watch THEIR reaction for once! and then do the Shania Twain line after they get through w/their tapdance answers, "That don't impress me much." *shrug* and turn around and walk away leaving them dumbfounded.

  43. It seems to me the planets aligned perfectly when TLC and Kody hooked up. Wonder who courted who? A narcissist stuck in a world that he had no chance to shine manages to snare a contract that will indulge his dream of moving to Sin City and becoming a household name.
Truly, other than give rare lip service to their faith nothing about this show educates about the average trials and joys of plyg, imo.

Not once have I ever heard them give any credit to their God for blessing them with the TLC money that allows them all that latitude for vacations, homes and many forays into businesses. They act like it's their talent and charisma but in fact, none of the plyg "lifestyle" that we see has been brought about by their hard work. The TV cash is what powers their lifestyle and I would venture to say that their depiction of plyg is light years away from the real thing.

  44. Has no one else noticed that every question and answer show there is a sex question. This isnt the first time kody has said we dont discuss that. My take on it is they dont talk about it not because its sacred but because its not any good. Its not possible for a 44 yr old man to satisfy 4 women. The only one that is being satisfied is robyn and from the look on het face the last few episodes i bet ole sweaty pants is even having trouble keeping up with her. I started watching this show because i wanted to see how the wives and children intetacted with each other. I am mormon and I was also interested in the spiritual side. I wanted to know the difference in AUB versus mainstream mormonism. I really dont see any spiritual aspects in the show. The only time religion is brought up is when kody needs to use it for his own agenda . Come on people i dont care if your Buddist or atheist stop using your religuon as an excuse to bang four women, keep bring children into the world, and luve off rhe rest of us lowly people who actually work . Please stop doing all your crap in the name of God. Some of us do take religion seriously as a means to live a twisted life and get paid for others to watch.

  45. I get the feeling that this is Kody's and Meri's marriage and the other wives are outsiders and secondary to their relationship. Even Robyn is secondary which is interesting to watch as the bloom fades from the rose.

I also feel like the show has run its course and there really isn't anything more to learn about polygamy. It is getting painful to watch. I am interested in the lives of the teens however, and I hope TLC can find a way to keep us in the loop about the doings in their lives, without having to listen to the empty rhetoric from their mothers.

It is so obvious that the teens are as wise to their parents as we are and that the five people in that marriage are delusional. I don't enjoy witnessing other people's pain but there is something inside me that really wants to see the teens break away from that religion, or lifestyle choice, or whatever it is, and get themselves ONE partner to share their life with - one partner who is with them every day in every way.

  46. To respond to the person asking about plural marriage being a way to get into the celestial kingdom as per their beliefs.... here are my thoughts:

    1. Even the mainstream mormons (along with the FLDS) believe that marriage is REQUIRED to get into their highest heaven. It is a temple ordinance that MUST be completed.

    2. Mormons also believe that plural marriage is a commandment from God. The mainstream Mormons stopped practicing polygamy when they wanted Utah to become a state, and the gov wouldn't let them because of their polygamy. So they renounced it, and Utah became a state. Since then, the mainstream mormons and the FLDS have been divided on the issue of practicing it in this life, but they ALL believe they'll practice it in heaven. They make the women feel better about it by saying that more women are devout and righteous, so there will be fewer men in the celestial kingdom than women.

    3. These women making a lifestyle choice to stay is NOT so easy. If they leave, they face ridicule, possible banishment and excommunication from their church, and they've been taught to believe that it would damn them to hell, or at best... to a lower heaven.

When people say, "They can just leave," it's not that easy! It's not just a lifestyle choice. These women are under the bondage of a religion scaring them into staying. They can even be considered sons/daughters of perdition if they leave, which is the most evil title you can get. What we really need to hope for is that they don't leave the lifestyle, but the religion. I truly hope they find the saving power of Jesus Christ outside of the bonds of this religion. Jesus died to save us, not to keep us in religious bondage.

    1. I agree with this regarding Christine and Robyn but Janelle, Kody and Meri for most of her childhood were not raised in this church. I really don't believe Kody believes in their religion at all. For him it is just an excuse to get a new woman when he tires of the old one and to have "bragging" rights. Janelle and Meri just seem to have extremely low self esteem and would rather put up with him then be alone. In the book Meri states that Kody was the only boy to ever pay her any attention and Janelle married Kody shortly after her divorce during what most of us would consider the rebound time. I think if those two ever got a sense of self worth they could get out.

-Wanna Bet: I'll go 50/50 with you on this one. It IS well designed--but virtually useless. It is just an artsy intro. The reason this website is better than the others is because it was professionally designed. (probably because it was financed by this Christopher Poole--now I'm curious about him. HMMM). The others are made on a free template from one of the "website builder" software kits. They take about 10 minutes to set up, and you can usually buy the domain name and up to 5 individual website names for about $150 for 10 years. I know because I saw all the templates on their sites when I was designing the website for our business. Piggybacking the sub-sites (fundamental fitness, LIV, and my sister wife's closet off )of the primary site is an option that allows you to save money. OK so now I have to skip tomorrow to make up for popping by again tonite :(

    1. Kristie,
In all due respect, single women can and do have great families. I raised my children alone because their dad was a douchebag and I didn't want to bring another man into my house because of all the horrible things you hear. So, when my kids grew up, I remarried a wonderful man. But, I had a loving and secure home and my children were good kids. the difference between my single parenting and their single parenting is that they have their life on hold between visits and seem to deal with all the emotions of knowing their husband is bed jumping, which affects the family. Plus, I would never have just dropped everything and moved my kids like they did. It seems as they are not really rational thinkers.

  50. So I dug up this old (OLD!) episode of This American Life that covered a faction in the FLDS. Turns out it was a different faction than the AUB, though still interesting. Y’all should give it a listen (20 mins) if you haven't heard it before.

    http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/21/factions

I remember Meri in S1 saying, "We don't go weird." Listening to this segment of TAL with her voice in my head is illuminating. I know that individual personalities vary greatly, but Carrier’s comparison of the tension in the home of the guy who “don’t go weird” to the families of the guys who “go weird” makes me draw comparisons to the Browns.

I’m not saying that sex between the wives will solve many/any of the Brown’s problems, but it does get me thinking about trust and sister wives relations.

Many similarities, (both following Joseph Smith's teachings and polygamy)-differences include no underage marriage and you get to pick your mate. (WITH approval of their official.) They say, the difference is they don't believe in abuse of women and children, but that is a mute point with me, for sadly, abuse happens in all groups of people.

    2. there are lot of different fundamentalist mormon splinter groups. FDLS and UAB are only two of the hundreds. in fact, mainstream mormonism itself is a splinter group too when you study Joseph Smith's, Brigham Young's and James Strang's history.

I believe Meri and Kody were young and madly in love and still are. If any of them could be considered "soulmates" it is them. I don't think Meri had much luck in the dating area and was willing to agree to whatever Kody wanted, i.e. polygamy, although I don't think she, 1)really wanted it, or, 2)actually thought he would follow through with it since they were so "in love". After three years with no children she panicked and picked/agreed to Janelle but really couldn't stomach the idea and she was intentionally was mean in an effort to make her leave. Unfortunately for her, Janelle became pregnant instead and solidified her standing as 2nd wife.

In Season 1 I felt sorry for Meri because it is obvious the baby issue has brought her great sadness but she has been mean from the beginning, before that even had grown to the current issue.

Janelle's self-esteem has allowed her to settle. She settled in her first marriage and was likely relieved and grateful for a second chance with Kody. I don't think she believed it would be as antogonistic with Meri as it ended up to be. But she's a trooper. She works and keeps on keeping on. Her relationship with Kody has never been about anything but making babies and having a practical mind in the house. I don't see them as sexual at all.

Christine was truly happy being the earth mother. She never expected anything more and she felt like she was a viable unit of a functioning family. I think her and Kody's was a fun one and, of course, making babies again was a function. But I don't think she's madly in love with him like Meri is. He's just the leader in her religious family unit. But she is hurt when she became displaced.

Robyn is a different story. Robyn brings sexual experience to the table that Kody most likely has never experienced, hence the fascination with her. Meri was a virgin and their interaction is most likely very sweet and romantic but very boring. Since she knows nothing else it's fine. Sex with Janelle was solely for making children...again, boring. Sex with Christine was probably more fun just because she is playful but she is most likely very inhibited in the bedroom. Robyn has been around the block. I don't believe for a second that she has only been with her first husband and Kody. Not for a minute. She has experience and he's loving it. But it's just sex for him, and, hopefully more babies! It's not love and if Robyn thinks he's her "soulmate" she's sadly mistaken. She's just the first one that's ever given him a BJ.
