No, Robyn wasn't about to faint, but I must say her face pretty much sums up the excitement I felt watching not one but TWO episodes tonight. Thank goodness they were only a half hour each, but still, it wasn't exactly what I would call fun.
Got to admit that's a helluva picture, though! And no, this isn't the Brutal Honesty the title was talking about... at least I don't think it was.
But before we get to the brutal part, we see Logan taking the 'the Pixies' plus Gabriel to a scrapbooking store so the kids can make homemade presents for their dad's birthday. Once he gets parked, the girls (plus Gabriel) all jump out of the van, running and screaming across the parking lot. You can see the reality of the moment hitting Logan hard - "What have I gotten myself into?" he asked himself, while simultaneously trying to find Savanah, corral the rest of the pixies, and prevent Gabriel from diving feet first into the strip mall's ornamental shrubbery. "DON'T LEAVE THE BUILDING!" he yells.
Welcome to adulthood, Logan!
Anyway, it was cute the way he offered crafting techniques to his younger siblings, and frankly, showed a lot of patience. He's gonna miss those kids when he goes off to college! And I think the younger kids are going to miss him, too.
Next we see Christine driving up to Meri's house. Seems the wives are trying to plan for Kody's birthday party. While stuffing gift bags for the children (hm.... what an interesting tradition) the wives also try to brainstorm what to get Kody for his birthday. While Janelle felt Kody should have a good gift, Meri says what Kody does need is a computer and that he's been wanting one. Leave it to Robyn to ask "...can we afford one?" Without missing a beat Meri says " It depends how much we each have in our budgets to put towards it..."
Robyn does not look convinced. Hey Robyn, we're talking the Browns here. If ya'll can afford a semi-automated assault rifle for Kody, SURELY ya'll can afford a computer! C'mon!! And it was interesting that for the first time, the audience hears the wives each have a household budget.
But is it really prudent to spend money meant to pay household expenses on a birthday gift for Kody? Why does this sound like an episode of 'I Love Lucy'? When the electricity's shutoff for non-payment, is Kody going to stand up and yell "Sister Wives, you got some 'splainin to do!"
We can only hope.
Christine subtracting... |
Oh dear, they are going to a restaurant so Christine can have a talk with Robyn. You know, I am very very tired of watching Christine being publicly humiliated. It's almost like there's some mean girl, demanding that Christine be made to atone for her sins against Robyn and Kody. So what she was jealous and mean to the woman. You would be too. After all, as Christine remembered, Kody's known Robyn for 30 months, and there were cracks in the facade of Christine's marriage to Kody back then(not to mention financial cracks - in the form of bankruptcy for Christine). And while we're at it, don't forget all the canoodling and kissing and acting all lovey dovey stuff Kody and Robyn were doing while Christine was in labor and shown to all the world ( not to mention Christine's AUB family) in season one, and then the attention Kody has given Robyn since the birth of Sol. Yes, Christine surely got the crap end of the stick. And she KNOWS it.
But Christine still must pay her pound of flesh. I'm not going to go into detail about the restaurant conversation, but suffice to say its a good thing this group doesn't practice blood atonement.
And I don't believe for one second Christine is no longer jealous of Robyn.
One question I have, though - why was Christine driving the Lexus? In fact, it was noticeably parked in the driveway on the side of her house. A new peace offering from Kody, perhaps? Or is the car being passed around on a rotation schedule between the sister wives, just like Kody?
Time will tell...
Anyway, seems Christine and Janelle are 'independently' pursuing their real estate licenses. Good for them! But Janelle had a funny look on her face, like she expected Christine to start counting her toes to figure out that one real estate problem!
When Christine said Kody "...had full intentions to do the real estate until he saw the book and he's like 'I've never been one to study...' " Like, duh...like we don't already know Kody is a lazy slug and hates to work?
So of course Janelle had to take control and make sure her man didn't come off looking like the lazy slug he is with her own spin why Kody dropped real estate. Janelle explains "Well, no I think Kody was interested in real estate, but then when the 'marketing' company [i.e. the LIV International MLM] came along he felt like it was more his skill set..." And then there's an abrupt cut to Janelle in a couch interview saying "...then we decided to pursue the marketing business with some of the other businesses that we have..." Whatever Janelle. You may stand by your man, but it was obvious in the real estate episode last year Kody had no intention of working hard. And real estate is hard.
Now we come to Kody's birthday scene. There's Kody, sitting on his throne wearing his crown and showing off his svelte waistline.
Kody is now 44 years old, believe it or not!
Now we see Kody getting his computer. He says the reason why his reaction was subdued was because he was thinking "...how did they buy this? How can we afford it...Now I have to go to work because a laptop is all about a job..." Funny how he didn't have the same worries about cost when he got that semi-automatic assault rifle that most likely cost just as much if not more than the computer he got.
And of course, leave it to Robyn to chime in "...I kinda knew that Kody didn't really want a laptop completely for his birthday. I knew it wasn't going to be that fun for him..."
Oh just SHUT UP, Robyn... Jiminy Crickets !!
And thus ends episode three...
Episode 4: You Asked, Browns Answer
Several things are apparent in episode four.
The production crew must have run out of ideas. So how about doing a show where the fans ask the Browns questions and then use scenes from previous episodes for visuals. C'mon people, this is only the 4th episode of the season! This type of show may work with normal folk, but we are talking the Browns here...So where a show like this is usually saved until the end of the season, the audience get to see it at the beginning. Whatever...
If you thought there were going to be any hard hitting questions being asked, you are going to be disappointed. I have to say, one of the stupidest, yes, STUPIDEST questions was: 'I was wondering if you all believed in using protection. Some religions believe sex is solely for procreation...' Kody's been married for 22 years and has 14 children. HELLO...What do you think?
How about where's the money coming from to finance your life in Vegas? How do you afford 4 houses and numerous new cars? Why do you need 4 houses, won't 2 do? In other words, what happened to those hard hitting questions I saw asked on the TLC Sister Wives facebook page?
If you thought Robyn was not going to cry, think again. That's right, Robyn cries when she answers a question about divorce, and how she was affected by not only her divorce from her children's father, but the divorce of her parents.
Meri gives a warning to all those wannabe 5th sisterwives: Don't come up to her and say you want to join the family as a 5th wife! It's not a matter of numbers, adding a wife is taken seriously (apparently with a lot more thought than shown on the show), and they aren't looking for a 5th, thank you very much.
Kody and Meri having a bit of a disagreement |
There were still a couple of interesting questions. For example:
Will there be another wife down the road. Kody took a stand of no because he realizes he is spread too thin as it is. But on the other hand, he can't say never. Kody feels if he had said no more wives after the original three, Robyn wouldn't be in the family today. It was when Robyn said she would strangle Kody if he brought in another wife that a real haha moment happened - that b**** is CRAZY!
A question about jealousy came up. Kody quickly gave Meri the tablet to answer the question, but the camera lingered for a couple of moments on Christine's sad face when she realized Kody wasn't going to give the tablet to her. Maybe that was a good thing...
Homosexuality. Janelle said she didn't have a problem if one of her children came out. I think Christine does have a problem, even though she tried to talk like she didn't. Christine's got some issues, but we already know that. Suffice to say, she implied in her overly drawn out answer that if her daughter was lesbian, she could not have a female friend in her room. Because if she was straight, she couldn't have a boy in her room.
But what if she was bi-sexual, Christine. Have you given any thoughts about that, or will that cause your head to implode?
Kody looking perturbed |
Kody admitted that, yes, he did spend more time with Robyn but it's because she didn't have anyone to take care of her after she had the baby. Why? Because the houses are not together. Oh really? Whatever....
Your thoughts?
I thought the contraception question was a good one. They may have about a million more kids than a normal family but they could have so many more... Moreover, I thought Kody's answer did actually answer the question: some use contraception and some don't, and the wives chose whether to use it or not.
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for Christine...
It was! I assume there is no protection with Meri and Robyn. A yes to contraception with Christine per her "I'm done!" statement. I don't think it even happens with Janelle.
DeleteFunnily enough, that was exactly the conclusion I came to!
DeleteI think they accidentally answered that contraception question. Kody said that it's up to each individual wife...meaning that the wives get to make a decision either way. I'm pretty sure that the reason this is so private is because it goes against AUB restrictions. Plus, when Christine exclaimed that she was done and Robyn questioned Kody about whether he wanted more...I think it's fair to assume they go against their church on this one.
DeleteI think they made a much bigger deal about this question than was necessary! All that was needed was that their church does or doesn't allow the use of contraception, which I believe it does. From there they just had to say that it is decided between each couple but that they didn't feel comfortable answer that particularly because it is a private choice. I don't answer that question either when asked as I feel it isn't anyone's business.
DeleteHis Only
AUB does NOT allow contraception as it's considered a sin. Members are not supposed to have sex unless they want children, but I'm sure people get around this secretly.
DeleteIf I was a sister wife, I would NOT want to know my other sister wives' decision re: birth control. The term, double dipping, comes to mind...
DeleteGreat review as usual! I had the same thought when the ladies couldn't subtract 157 from 173... so scary.
ReplyDeleteI had a major question with Kody's birthday gift...
HOW DOES THIS MAN NOT HAVE A COMPUTER ALREADY?!
Seriously... Kody is involved in like 7 "businesses" and the man didn't have a computer until NOW?!! That just goes to show you how flaky and pathetic Kody's business motivation really is. How can you successfully manage a business when you don't even have a computer?! It's mind-blowing. His reaction just made me cringe: "Duh..uh.. I guess this means I have to do work now?! Duh-huh-huh.."
Yes Kody YES. You DO have to do work. In fact, you should have been seriously working since you first got married. In fact, every single able adult in this country should contribute to their families. Government and reality show paychecks are NOT considered work Kody.
What a joke he is. (And not the funny kind)
I was thinking that couldn't be true, but maybe it is. I never see the kids obsessed with their computers either?
DeleteOh, poor Kody. Now, he's going to have to lug a computer around to his harem every day. It's really hard, you know.
We've already seen Janelle with a computer in the past episodes and my guess is she is the one running Kody's business ventures.
DeleteI think Meri said his old one died.
DeleteWasn't it just a few weeks ago we all heard Kody bragging about how hard he was working with all his 15 different jobs?!? Then when he gets the Laptop sure enuff he talks about he wasn't thrilled cuz a laptop means he now has to work! I'm not even surprised anymore by how much these people contradict themselves in fact, I expect it now, lol.
DeleteBy the way, loved the picture of King Kody w/his party hat on & that stupid slimmy grin on his face...he was smiling like he was about to get a lap dance from all of his women! No wonder he was disappointed w/the computer!
A few of my thoughts:
ReplyDeleteMeri was in hot denial of ever saying she fantasized about not having sister wives--i question her honesty because of her reaction.
Robyn showed her ass in so many ways in this Q&A.
Kody talks about Meri's neatness and organization way too often.
I feel like Kody and Meri forget that she has only ONE child. (And an adult one at that) Of COURSE her home would be more organized and neat. In fact, it should be. I'd love to see how neat and organized she'd be with six kids...
Deletei would loved for her to have been called on wth was up w/your messy/cluttered bedroom? that wasn't just from packing to go away. the dresser was cluttered and messy, too. and there were boxes laying around and just crap piled up on the floors. i just chalked it up to what's going on inside of Meri right now. her bedroom is clearly shouting out - i'm depressed and unhappy and feeling chaotic! she's anything but zen and peaceful inside. she couldn't care less that Robyn's bedroom is a shrine to Kody. Meri's giving him the message loud and clear that hers no longer is - if it ever even was.
DeleteI also found that response odd and artificial. I mean, sure it's insensitive for her to fantasize about something she actually had, if you put it like that. But wouldn't that be the obvious fantasy? Couldn't she at least say it would be easier to keep the vacuuming perfect or the yard done or reach high things or her kid might like it or something??? Just something!?
DeleteNever thought about it? Really? Never???? I mean, there have been silly moments I have thought about a sister wife, though in fairness I drink. Don't worry, Meri, my theoretical sister wife would never be you.
My earlier response was in reply to Modern Wife. Totally agree with what she said upthread
DeleteMeri absolutely lied that she never fantasized about not having sister wives, because Kody became so upset when she denied it, making him out to be a lier. Obviously she must have confided in him. This showed me that she even controls Kody.
DeleteI would have went ballistic if I were Christine when her and Robyn were in the restaurant and Robyn told her that Kody and her discussing Christine's attitude Kody said "Honey, it's not you." Was Robyn letting Christine know that her and Kody discuss her? That is soooo wrong. I'm starting not to feel sorry for Christine - she should just walk away.
ReplyDeleteActually, she was talking about what her mom said to her.
DeleteI thought this too, all the responses in the conversation were wrong and scripted.
DeleteChristine's body language in the Robyn scene is so transparent. The constant touching of the face and even covering her mouth while speaking is a deceptive sign that see is lying. She, herself doesn't even believe what see is saying. And the looking down line where she says, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, so you thought I didn't liked you?" (hand next to mouth) Then she says, "That horrible, horrible." All the time she is looking down, hand completely over face and playing with lashes...huge deception and she has a smile on her face...she is happy to have caused this pain. If you re-watch it...every time she is apologetic or claiming it wasn't Robchin, she is close to covering her own mouth as to not lie. When she speaks sincerely about her feelings around Kody's behavior she is wide open, sincere and honest with her body language. But she is definitely smiling and taking joy in Robchin crying and not feeling welcome.
Robyn said that was her mom she was talking to about it. but do i think she DOESN'T talk to Kody about it?? of course!! but that's again one of their little secrets and what has also pushed Kody farther away from Christine. ;')
DeleteI didn't catch that she discussed it with Kody. I thought it was Robyn's Mom saying, "Honey it's not you."
DeleteHis Only
Anonymous, I'm with you on the whole Kodsturd and Robyn-No-Character discussing Christine and his "problem." If If I were Christine, I would automatically think if he is talking to her about this, what else is discussing with her about me. I would have felt so betrayed. On the other hand, I'm sure that by now she is so over it and her trying to get her real estate license reinforces my suspicion that she may be planning an exit.
DeleteThe truth is that if she doesn't make a move soon, I will join others who are losing respect for her.
Thank you for this blog..my stupid DVR malfunctioned and I didn't get to see either of these episodes, although I think it's probably better this way because I would have probably would have thrown something through my TV at annoying Robyn
ReplyDeleteIt's completely fascinating watching this show. I'd love to be in their brains and see their thought processes. I'm so sad that I enjoy this train wreck ;)
ReplyDeleteCynical Jinx,
ReplyDeleteOne AGAIN, you offer an extremely accurate and comprehensive review.
You left no Brown-absurdity unturned. Thank Youuuu !!
I was taken with Christine saying that one reason she wanted to be a sister-wife and *a 3rd sister wife* to be exact, was so that she would have help raising her kids. WTF ?? Perhaps her upbringing *did* cement in her mind that a woman wasn't capable of mothering *her* children solo, with just your garden variety family of Mom *and Dad* and kids. Also, knowing she was not inherently wired for a monogamous marriage, she knew going in that she wouldn't have a full-time father for her kids, knew that having a litter of children was her expected role and doubted her ability to do it by herself. *Like Janelle has had to do??!!*
Meri still comes off as seething (however repressed) and unhappy woman who resents the life that she chose...chose in order to keep her man.
She will play the game, though, desperately preserving her 1st wife status to keep herself (her sanity) intact.
I did notice Janelle's expressions when Christine was lamenting how hard that particular real estate question was. Janelle looked disgusted. I seriously doubt if Christine will follow through with this. Like Kody, this may not be her *skill set* either.
And yes, watching Robyn and Christine struggle to subtract 157 from 173 was VERY disturbing. And really, what WAS the purpose of that ridiculous scene other than to fill airtime? But it did remind of another weigh-in scene last year where poor Janelle had to be publicly humiliated. That scene had to be awful for her.
Robyn's antics in these episodes just drive the point further and further of what a hollow, me-me, hanger-on she is.
But the real result of Episode 3 and 4 as it was filmed and edited, is to re-announce to all viewers (and critics) that....
Meri is happy...Christine is "all better" now...Janelle is tickled pink at her lot in life....and Robyn is still crying.
Suggesting, according to these latest episodes, folks should just throw out all those SW books, or don't even buy them, since the *disclosures* in it are all wrong or redundant !!!
If memory serves, the question Chirstine was struggling with had something to do with figuring 20% of a house price. I know middle schoolers who can do that in their head.
DeleteAgain with my disclaimer: It pains me to defend any of these people! I have a 180 IQ, speak 5 languages--and cannot do basic arthmatic without a great deal of dificulty. In college, I was actually in a study of people with genious-level intellect who cannot do basic arithmetic. They removed me from the study because it was so stressful to me that I was becoming physically ill after the 5th week. Yes, to do ADDITION and SUBTRACTION; they were big numbers lol. I can barely even tell time on an analog clock--and I only became able to do that in my 20's. Also, as of this week, none of the Browns has a Nevada realtor license. SURPRISE!
DeleteI also cannot type worth a crap, as is evidenced by my constant typos. LOL
DeleteJust a short comment for now. What a spoiled brat Kody is. He thought a laptop wasn't fun and it sounded like 'work'. His couch session where he tries to sound like he was concerned about money was just a lie and we all know it. He sure didn't worry about the cost of his new weapon. And guess what, Kody, lots of people would love a new laptop. In fact, I tweeted him and asked if I could have it since he doesn't seem to like it. Pretty sure he won't retweet that one. And then to top it off, Robyn chimes in with her 'opinion' that she never thought Kody would be excited about a laptop. Well, yay, Robyn, you once again know the hubby better than anyone else.
ReplyDeleteI bought my 17 year old son a new laptop this weekend and I got a hug and a kiss - in public! And his laptop isn't even as nice as Koduche's.
DeleteThat is TOO funny that you tweeted him asking re: laptop!! I was thinking the same thing, what a spoiled brat. My daughter is in college and her laptop died this year, she went without...and Kody is whining about his gift not being 'fun'. I was beyond annoyed with him. What do you wanna bet he kept that $5 in change from Savannah's piggy bank too?
DeleteThe AUB doesn't believe in Contraception.
ReplyDeleteWatching that lazy slug laying on the couch while I'm cooking for his new religion and then googly-eyeing the new wife would do it for me. No birth control needed!
DeleteReally? I didn't know that but I haven't looked it up. My LDS friend told me years ago when we first met that her church didn't have any formal sanctions against it. I understand from previous LDS study that usually they try to have as many kids as possible to provide physical bodies for the spirit babies who are waiting for an opportunity to be born- which is a necessary process to achieving the celestial kingdom.
DeleteHis Only
Hey Anon 6:59 pm!
DeleteThe Brown's don't belong to the LDS Church. They belong to a "fundamentalist" breakoff called the AUB (Apostolic United Brethren) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostolic_United_Brethren
They don't believe in contraception. If you go to their church, you will see REALLY OLD ladies with young children. It is difficult of course knowing if the children are theirs or their sister wives.
I did leave out any thoughts about Kody re: these latest episodes....just goes to show how forgettable an annoying narcissist can be.
ReplyDelete*Kody is simply a useless, lazy jerk who somehow has certainly lucked out in life.
*His only real skill is skimming the surface of his life, letting others (wives, government, older children, media) pick up *his slack.*
*Kody is VERY happy with himself. He believes his own myths.
What I thought was pathetic - Christine talking about how her jealousy towards Robin surprised her. Well, let's see... Honey, you were pregnant and huge, and there was your husband courting another woman. You go into labor and you have to get in touch with him at another woman's house. Of COURSE you were jealous.
ReplyDeleteThanks CJ for a wonderful recap. It's the only reason I watch the whole stupid show. This is the first week I watched the show after reading the book - a library loan*. I look at Meri totally different now.
ReplyDelete*Our library is part of a system that includes around 100 other libraries. I have the one and only book from all 100. I was also able to get it for 28 days rather than the typical 7 day loan for new books. There was still no wait list for the book. I think marketing genius Kody may need to look into some more book learnin' on marketing his family.
Even Marcia Brady's book which came out years after her shelf life expired had over 15 copies.
DeleteI think Kody CANNOT STAND anybody criticizing him, whether about abandonment, poor gift reaction, being too lazy to work, etc. Also when he was reading the kids birthday cards, it became clear why he is "not much for studying" as he could barely read. He would never be able to get a real estate license. No wonder he never helps anybody with their homework.
ReplyDeleteEither that, or he needs reading glasses but doesn't want to be seen on TV wearing them because he would look OLD!
DeleteI agree about Kody and the criticism...I was watching his reaction closely when any of the wives said anything that bordered on negative about him....he most certainly was NOT amused!!!
DeleteI wonder which address Kody lists as his home when filling out documents...or which house his mail gets delivered to...
ReplyDeleteAt his age you would think he would be well established in a profession or trade...or have a skill set of some type. He is such a poor role model for his kids...
Being he doesnt do much of anything other than prancing from house to house you would think he would enroll in community college and try and learn a trade so he can support his gaggle of kids...
Where the heck did Christine buy that hideous yellow babydoll like top? Her entire outfit was just so awful. I can't believe she thinks that getup is modest!
ReplyDeleteThat outfit was truly horrid. If she was colour blind I could understand the faux pas but if not she should think of getting someone to help her dress. I think Christine is very pretty just can't seem to put herself together very well. Also why is it that everytime I watch an episode they all seem either thinner or fatter since the last episode???
DeleteLOL, I thought the same thing. Wear the babydoll top UNDER a cardigan, okay. That works, that's modest. Wearing the babydoll top OVER a long-sleeve shirt just looks ridiculous, especially when both are too tight.
DeleteAnd while I'm at it, there was a brief clip of Meri working out wearing a long-sleeve pink shirt with a way too tight gray tank top over the shirt. I don't get that one at all. Isn't the shirt enough of a modesty statement? Is there a rule that they must wear two shirts at all times? All I can think when I see them working out in their two-piece ensembles is - man, they must sweat a TON.
She looked like that kid in the Blind Melon video.
DeleteAgree!! I do not get the 'top over a top fashion' of these gals!!! Just wear the first top! What is the point of the second top?? More 'fashionable'?? I think not!
Deletehaven't her and Meri traded that yellow top back and forth? i agree it looks awful in both the color and the fit. and with all the black paired with it, it looks like a giant bumble bee outfit. ok, i'm sorry. that's mean. but i think it's meaner for one of her sister wives to not tell her that and let her go on national TV wearing it.
DeleteI know a lot of people have commented on whether or not Robyn is Pregnant again & after watching the 2nd Episode, I would say she definitely is! She was sitting on the end of the couch & her belly was sticking out there like she was several months along. At first, I swore she had on a Maternity Top but it is so hard to tell with the get up's these women wear.
DeleteToasty - not sure when the Q&A ep was filmed, but if Robyn is indeed preggers again, we'd ALL know about it by now. I'm on the side of "just getting fat, like the rest of the family" rather than already pregnant. Or she's still carrying baby weight at the time that was filmed.
DeleteWhen Kody snapped that clacker thing it had 4/26/12 as the date of production.
DeleteI don't get the outfit at all. I think the wives could be very cute in some skinny leggings, ballet flats, and tunics. Oh how I wish I could give Meri, Janelle, and Christine a make over. Robyn doesn't get one because I'm mean.
DeleteI have the answer to the layered babydoll shirt wardrobe. It's maybe psychological warfare. Think about it....with those tops that make them look pregnant, it must put the fear of god in the others because they really can't tell if the other is pg or not.
DeleteThey must be always teetering on a hormonal breakdown not being able to tell for sure that one of the others might be carrying the next Kodyite.
Hell, maybe that's why Christine was weighing Rob-chin because we all know that the secret lovers ( K&R) might want to wait till the last minute to reveal their next bun in the luv oven.
I know that when I wear empire tops with my gut poking out..I want ppl to wonder if I'm pg...lol...ssure thing.
j
A lot of talk this week about Kody being the "common thread" or the "common denominator" (clearly nobody knows what one of those is!). Love should be multiplied, and then you need a denominator to divide everyone and make sure everyone has "access" to him on his birthday (yuck!!!)
ReplyDeleteA lot of things aren't Kody's selfish "skill set." Book learning. Monogamy. Babies. Working. Parenting. But I do see moments of charm. I think he must have some serious charisma. That's the only explanation why he could get all of these women to fawn over his scraps AND convince TLC to do this. I'm glad to see the editors aren't cutting him much slack this season. The guy looks like the laziest sack of something. All season, so far.
Psychopaths are known for their charisma; think Ted Bundy.
DeleteAfter reading the book, I realize it was his charisma and the fact he went after women that had low self-esteem in relationshipes that attracted the women to him. They constantly mentioned how immature Kody has always been. They have never had a plan beyond right now in all of the years they have been together either.
DeleteSome men with serious personality disorder or bipolar men, can receive a lot of attraction from women at the right moments... I know this is creepy but I've seen it IRL.
DeleteThis was the first time I really though it would be a great idea to get a new wife in the mix (and probably the only way to keep the show on air).
DeleteHow fun it's going to be watching Robyn being pushed into Christine's position. From superduper favorite and sexual squeesh to what Christine is now.
Obviously Robyn has been married just a couple of years to The Kody and Christine a lot, but it would be fun to watch!
I haven't been able to watch the show yet - the free online episodes tend to get up on wednessday. Great review!
Anonymous @1:07 That is exactly what I was thinking!!!
DeleteI used to think in the 1st few Episodes of the 1st season that Kody had to have a Good Personality or Charm about him but it didn't take long for me to change my mind. I couldn't imagine being w/him for any length of time thinking he's this great catch that I would want to spend eternity w/his Bozo ass muchless sleep with him...YUCK! I am baffled by what these women see in him.
DeleteI suppose the short "courting" period is what sucks these women in. They have no opportunity to truly get to know the real Kodouche. They just get his charming self for a couple months while eating guacomole in some crappy Mexican restaurant.
DeleteI guess he's better than a Warren Jeffs or elder Goober or Brother Bore-me-to-tears...compared to some old fart that needed some new flesh to make him some babies and satisfy his waning libido...Koduche is da bomb. Lucky gals..and to think, he's still fairly young...they can keep supporting him and his "choices" for years and years until their own youth is all gone.
DeleteSounds depressing but on that next planet they'll get the chance to do it again, ain't that sumpin?j
Personally, I think that the baby weigh in was Christine's way of finding out how much Robchin weighs, for real! I saw right through that little move...wink wink.
ReplyDeleteI believe she was a few pounds heavier than she was back when she was pregnant (when they all "started working out"). Good luck with that Brown family lifestyle. She'll be borrowing Meri's tank tops soon.
Deletehaha...I thought that too! Who doesn't know their baby's apprx weight? They go for check ups on a regular basis....that was a dig at Robyn, like 'look sista, you've put on a couple lbs, nannybooboo and all of us woman-size wives are really tired of everybody saying you're the skinny one' j
DeleteJust as an FYI, Robyn weighed in at 158 in the Diet Woes Episode last year. Of course, she was at least 6 months pregnant at the time. so she's only lost what, 2 lbs?
DeleteI would like an episode where Kody has to divorce Meri and legally marry Robyn instead. (Since they are trying to follow big love. But Kody...you are not bill. Even if you might wind up getting shot over this..)
ReplyDeleteAh...Barb Henrickson and Big Love!
DeleteOkay, Meri is no Barb. No way would Meri relinquish her status as Kody's legal wife. She'd cut-a-bitch for even suggesting it!
That should be - she'd cut-a-sisterwife !!!
DeleteShe probably would. Or have a supreme break down and have to be sedated and put in a clinic. But ohh the ratings for that episode.
Delete(Hint hint TLC)
Why wasn't I surprised when Robyn piped up that she knew Koduche wouldn't like the laptop. Of course, she didn't say anything to the wives before they bought it. Passive-aggressive anyone?
ReplyDeleteOnce again I watched these two episodes in utter contempt and dismay.... Why is Christine grovelling to Robyn over lunch? Where the hell is Kody? She admitted she had the problem with him, so why isnt HE there having this discussion with her? oh, thats right - she has to be sweet to him. And then again here comes Robyn's crocodile tears. She has an uncanny way of twisting EVERYTHING around so it becomes about her sadness.
ReplyDeleteThe birthday for Kody was held at Janelles house, meaning it was her and her kids night. So why the heck is Kody holding Soloman and opening presents with one hand? Shouldnt he be spending time with the children he has made with Janelle if anything? Always that baby has to be in there somewhere. When he gave Meri her bday gift he was holding him and here he is again. If I was Janelle I would of imploded. But shes the relaxed one. Do you think if it was Christines night and they were at Christines that he would be holding soloman instead of Truely?
THE PRESENT.... I wante dto vomit when he opened that. He is an arrogant, ungrateful ass. Im sure NONE of the kids get something that extravagant. Why is Kody getting these lavish gifts? Shouldnt you be saving for a home? If you are concerned with money - why spend that much on a present he clearly thought he was better than?
The question segment was a joke. I felt like it was a clip of bloopers more than anything. There was no hard hitting questions. And always, Robyn has to chime in. Im sure all the wives want to rip her head off.
I agree. Way too many scenes of Kody holding Sol in this episode. I think Kody was doing it on purpose to get back at Christine. And I think if the party was held at Christine's house, Kody would still hold Sol rather than Truely!
DeleteIs it just me, or did Kody look like a sorry stand-in for the Burger King in when he wore the crown? I also gagged when he asked if he had to wear it all day. You could just tell he really wanted to.lol
ReplyDeleteJust feeding his immense, douchecanoe self.
DeleteI liked SW better when there were only 3 wives. The dynamic was great. Robyn is a whinny brat. NO WONDER HER OTHER MARRIAGE DIDN'T WORK! It wasn't her ex, it was her. And her parents "divorced" her too? Look within sweetheart!
ReplyDeleteMeri, Meri, Meri, we ALL know you are wifey numero uno so stop telling us. But I do have to admit. She is my fav.
Janelle who? I always forget she's on the show.
Christine, why do you make yourself suffer? Either pick up the broken pieces and move on or just plain-ol move on. Your man is married to this pathetic 4th wife and like all things, she will become old news so be ready to be there when he's had his fill.
I can't possibly be the ONLY person who flashed on the Burger King TV ads when we saw King Kody in his cardboard crown, which I figured was obtained from the local BK. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA. I didn't see the episode (no TLC now.) but from the picture here, yes he does look like the creepy BK King. ha.
DeleteThe Burger King King is skinnier, and IMO, better looking, but just as creepy as Kodouche!
DeleteAlso...Christine and Janelle are shown studying for their RE license 5 months ago. I've never aspired to be a realtor, but how long does it actually take to study for and pass the test? Wouldn't we have heard something by now, or is this a deep dark secret to be revealed later this season - I predict Janelle aceing the test while Christine...nope.
ReplyDeleteI took it when I was 19. Class, study and exam all done within 6 weeks. Janelle may and I stress MAY have the brains to pass the test (I'm sorry I only see her as bright compared to the dim bulbs she's surrounded by)as it really isn't very hard but she does not have the personality to sell anything. Christine has no hope of passing and from what we saw of her and Robyn trying to subtract, I would guess they both grew up going to their "church school" and probably do not have an education that passes the average third grade level.
DeleteYou know, I agree about Janelle's intelligence being relative to those around her. Of course she looked successful; she had a job that gave her somewhat of a professional identity. Yet, we are not sure what the job was or what her education is. She married Kodsturd pretty young, so I would think any degree she might have would be a BA, if that. I teach writing at a very successful business college (don't judge my teaching by my actual writing here. I post quickly without editing.) and most of the business degrees from a BA only give very lower level business jobs with little hope of promotions. Now, with a type A personality, a BA can be enough to get a person in the door and their personality can move them up with the correct communication skills: Robyn does not strike me as having a Type A personality or the needed self motivation. So, her professional life would be limited. But, she probably will finish the real estate class; however, I agree with others that she will not make a good sales person. A large portion of sales is the result of appearances, and she is lagging in both personality and apperance. Sorry Janelle. You are my favorite but your value is quickly devaluating because of your lack of self control to lose the weight and your inability to separate your identity from the plural wives mentality.
DeleteAnonymous @11:31 I agree about the level of education for the ladies – and Kody, too, really (he’s not all that bright either). I always figured Janelle was the smart one, but you may be right that it's just relative and she’s so quiet and thoughtful, it leads to the belief that she’s pretty savy. Their possible lack of education may have led to their choice of continuing in their faith and lifestyle and marriages, even when things seem illogical and unreasonable to those of us on the outside.
DeleteThank [god] that the kids are all in public school now; they might all avoid their mothers’ fates.
Spot on write-up as always!!!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get over at what a spoiled, rude crybaby Kody is. What grown man sits and pouts about his birthday present are you serious???? He needs to have many wives because no one woman would EVER want to be with him all the time.
Robin is a horrible sister wive. How coulf Christine possibly like or even trust her. Even sitting there on the couch and saying "I knew Kody really wouldn't like it" just proves her passive-aggressive behaviour. All she really care about is being the favorite wife and boy do I hope that they get a 5th wife!! There is no way in the world Meri is taking Robyn up on the surrogacy, Robyn would never let her live that one down!
I sure hope Christine watches these episodes ans sees how pathetic she's coming off.
I dunno, I'd feel sorry for poor Wife #5, unless of course it was Kate Gosselin.
DeleteThere were a few standout moments I noticed. When someone asked if Kody spent more time with one wife than another 'at times' he immediately said yes on the birth of a baby. I couldn't help but wonder if he did that with Christine when she had Truely. After all, she was past her due date and he still went on his weekend visit to see Robyn (who was a few hours away). I think Kody would say something like Christine has older kids to help her but Robyn doesn't. They are always saying how great being sister wives is because they all have this additional help and support but I am just not seeing that nor did I read that in their book. They really are for the most part kind of on their own, unless celebrating King Kody or filming a family episode for TLC.
ReplyDeleteClearly Christine is being punished by Kody. I am beginning to think that he told her that he will start spending time with her again (maybe he goes over to the house for dinner every 4 days but I don't believe he is staying the night which is what has led to her saying 'why do you keep saying you have to leave' and her deepening depression)..that Kody has told her once she makes amends for all the hurt she has caused the family, then he will 'trust' her enough and start spending more time with her. Sure they did the date night but TLC paid for that and he couldn't very well have a date night with the others and not Christine. So my theory is that Kody is withholding his presence from Christine until she has fixed the situation that he believe she ruined. Thus the apology tour. And Christine was the one who went and helped Meri when she was down - not the bestie Robyn and no sign of Janelle either. So Christine has to prove herself worthy by kissing the behind of Meri, Robyn and Kody.
Janelle seems really different this season. She seems to be on the 'defend Kody' bandwagon. I hope it's just the business women in her in that she realizes that if the public starts hating Kody, then their 'business' (TLC show) is gone. She just seems really detached and yet defensive. I do think what she was saying with the real estate thing was 'no one would get moving on this, so I am moving forward...tired of waiting.' Remember, Janelle is the ONLY college educated of the group. I know we make fun of Robyn and Christine not being able to do the math on the baby weigh in but let's remember, these women are not given much of an education....they are raised specifically to stay in the religion and pop out babies. I'm not a Robyn fan at all, but none of the three non educated women are all that bright, they haven't had the opportunity to learn. They probably did some AUB home schooling...probably not the highest level of education. I know Meri said she taught high risk youth and maybe attended college so I might be wrong on Meri's education, although I think we can all surmise that her counseling of high risk teens would sound a lot like the judgmental tone she took with Christine....so I think the teenage world is better off wtihout her.
re: Janelle being defensive of Kody.
DeleteStockholm Syndrome perhaps?
more like making sure they still have an income from the TV show, IMO.
DeleteI found it amusing that Meri made such a strong note on how they choose a wife and implied heavily that wives are a religious calling then later we hear Kodster insisting he won't be marrying a fifth. If choosing a wife is a religious experience, how does Kody know he won't be marrying again? These people are so full of it.
ReplyDeleteIMO why the wives are now driving the prized Lexus...
ReplyDeleteof course, Kody gets the newest vehicle, which is the LIV-Fugly-mobile. The Lexus is now the OLD CAR. I'm sure once the Brown's downline starts to disintegrate - which is what ALWAYS happens eventually in the MLM world - and LIV takes the car back or (more probable) starts requiring the Browns to co-pay for the lease and insurance to make up for their reduced income - Kody will reclaim the Lexus...
CJ, thanks for another great review! Thanks for the photos, esp that one of Kody at the end. That is one scary face and I suspect one that is seen often when the cameras are not rolling. Just me or do you get the feeling it's Kody's way or no way?? He gives off 'bad temper' vibes big time!!
ReplyDeleteWhen his kids were giving him his bday gifts, he acted like he really had no clue who was who. I also got the feeling each kid was desperately trying to get his attention and he just sat there holding Sol with his stupid crown on, looking like a spoiled 3 yr old. Gee Kody, if you hate your computer so much, give it to Logan to take to college!
The Q&A show was beyond stupid. If they talk about their (non) weight loss one more time, I'm gonnna scream. Viewer asked how they were doing, had they lost wt. Christine said nothing. Janelle says something about how it's harder to lose weight after the age of 40. I've been a trainer for over 20 yrs so obviously I am OLD, lol, and Janelle, that is called an EXCUSE. You can lose wt, stop eating so much crap and stop going out to eat all the time. Start MOVING. They show her doing yoga (great, I'm a yoga teacher too...) and barely moving at the gym..that doesn't cut it if she wants to lose weight.
And then Meri comes out with "I hurt my knee skiing". So what month was that? How much time did she have BEFORE that and since that was filmed?? Meri, I had that same injury from a car accident, had surgery, and was back to work at the GYM the very next week. Not 100%, but I was there and moving, because I didn't want to lose my job. I wasn't laying in bed dishing out advice to people, geez, that's no way to lose weight.
Enough with the weight loss talk, SW don't want to lose weight, they aren't going to, so stop pretending you are working on it.
Thanks again CJ, love your reviews, love the blog!
About the favorite trait question Kody answered regarding his wives, I was expecting one to be the "spiritual" wife. Actually, I was expecting him to say something about Christine's devotion or faith, especially since she is now searching for a new identity, with Robin replacing her as the youngest, hottest (ie most sexually active with Kody) wife. We have seen Christine praying with her kids, and she seems to speak up first when their faith is challenged. I do believe she is serious about her faith. I think she buys into it more so than the others, and that, combined with her background in the church, gives her an identity to cling to, one that keeps the family intact. I suspect that is what will develop this season based on some of Christine's commets. Kody doesn't seem smart enough to figure that one out.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I have so much to say that I don’t really know where to begin. First, I have to make a comment on the Christine and Robin-No-Character meeting. First, Christine is quickly losing my sympathy vote. She groveled to Meri, to Kodsturd, and now to Robin. I sit and scream at the TV, “Get a back bone and tell him to crawl up your…” Really, Kody and Meri are trying really hard to paint Christine as the one who has torn the family apart. She has made the new wife feel uncomfortable and she is the one who has sulled up and been rude to Kody. To Christine I would say, okay, enough. If you are beaten once, shame on him; if you are beaten twice, shame on him; if he beats you three times, get the hell out or it’s shame on you. I believe she is masochistic and the pain she is feeling is giving her some type of comfort. And, many abused women would rather have physical pain than no feeling. But, there is a point where we all get tired of the mentally ill not growing. Clearly, Christine is mentally ill and if she cannot see beyond her own pain that she is creating an unhealthy expectation of how women are to be treated for her children, then she deserves everything that clan piles on her.
ReplyDeleteTo Janelle I want to scream: do not make excuses for this slug. He is an idiot and Christine hit the nail on the head; he saw the thick book and realized how much work would be involved, so he said, no way. I’m not investing my time in this huge undertaking. Plus, Janelle has lost all respect from me by spending a year doing exercises and losing only ten pounds and taking up for Kodsturd. Come on!!! I hate to keep ragging on how fat those women and Kodsturd and their girls are, but do they not see how unhealthy that extra fat is to their hearts and bones. Plus, Meri claims she eats healthy; yeah right. I see your big ass is as big as Christine’s and that doesn’t scream healthy eating. At this point, I’m all about pointing out their imperfect lives because they are so trying to show us how it works—it really, really works.
Robyn is just an idiot. All of that eye rolling and dabbing at the lashes and crying just makes me ill. Yes, you really tried to work out your old marriage, so you are crying now because you couldn’t work it out and you feel like a failure? I am at the point where she makes me feel so ill that I leave the room when she is on the TV. TLC would be wise to give her few speaking parts and make her an off screen character. Plus, she doesn’t spend any time teaching her kids about hand washing or how to cough without spreading tons of germs across the room. And, I feel so bad for her son; she is feeding him that crap they are selling to control his autism. Really!!! And, is she trying to get him to lose weight? Why not take him to the park and let him play instead of having him sit in front of the TV all day long and she cannot say he doesn’t do that because his body shape suggests differently.
I cannot even talk about that idiotic Kodsturd. My god he is annoying. You noticed they blocked the apple off of the computer. Yes! That clearly means they tried to get a freeby and Apple wouldn’t play. To that I say, go Apple. And he is so freakin’ fat and balding and lazy and mad acting that I don’t see how those four women can even consider him a medium catch. WOMEN COME ON; HE IS A LOSER; HE IS A CREEP; HE IS THE MAN THAT I WOULD TELL MY GRANDDAUGHTERS TO CROSS THE STREET TO GET AWAY FROM.
More later when I calm down
I doubt if Apple gives a crap whether or not they're shown on Sister Wives. I bet that TLC didn't even ask. You can tell by the box and the laptop itself what the make is, whether or not they show the logo.
DeleteMy son has aspergers and I spend most days driving him to therapy and social groups. At home, I read him social stories and engage in various therapeutic exercises recommended by his psychologist and occupational therapists. My husband does the same. Every weekend is devoted to our children. Why don't we see Dayton having any sort of therapy. All we see are date nights with Kody and the attempt at a "honeymoon" experience.
DeleteI can’t really fault Christine and Robyn for struggling with that ‘math problem’. I’m 32 and I still have to count on my fingers sometimes. Math has never been my friend. Granted, I figured out the answer long before they did.
ReplyDeleteDamn, Truely is the cutest little thing! That kid has personality, for sure. Such a sweetheart!
I noticed the wives are falling back into the spaghetti-strap-maternity-top-layers habit again. Tsk, tsk.
Kody’s reaction to the laptop really disgusted me (although I loved Christine’s impression of him). Each wife had to have put $200 to $300 towards that thing. Did he REALLY say it means he has to work and he wanted a fun gift? Wow. My computer is used for both work AND fun!
I enjoyed Janelle and Christine’s study scene. I’m really partial to those two this season and I’m glad to see they’re both taking steps towards self- sufficiency.
Logan taking the kids to the store was pretty adorable. He’s a great big brother and it’s clear he is concerned for the youngsters once he leaves. He knows they don’t have much of a father figure, otherwise. They do seem to respect him as an authority figure.
Robyn crying….yawn. You can see Christine fighting not to roll her eyes during the big ‘conversation’. When Robyn cries AGAIN over divorce, I recall a shot of either Janelle or Christine fighting not to heave a big sigh and mutter, “Here we go again.
I was excited for the question/answer segment, but we really didn’t learn anything new. Janelle’s answer to the gay question did seem sincere to me, though. Despite their religion, I truly don`t believe any of them would shun one of their kids for being gay. Christine stumbled over her answer, but I did see the point she was trying to make.
When Kody addressed the question about spending more time with a wife who has just given birth, I half-expected Christine’s head to explode.
I doubt they only put 3 or 400 towards his macbookpro. They cost closer to 2100 than 1200. I believe that Janelle is sincere in her acceptance of having a gay child and her math is pretty spot on that as large as their family of children are, it is certain at least one or two could be gay. Then, I wonder if she thinks about those other types of statistics like 1 in 3 girls is molested every minute? Now I don't know why I brought that up but I do worry about little girls in families where parents are absent both physically and emotionally.
DeleteNo worries, they have plenty of $$ right now from the show, so right now getting Kody big expensive presents is no biggie.
DeleteSeems pretty cutting that he’d say that he’s got to spend more time with Robin because of the baby.
ReplyDeleteWasn’t there another baby floating around the family this last couple of years? Christine and I would like to know where was he when Christine needed more time from him to help with her baby?
Also, Robin? Sweetie, if you didn’t think that an expensive computer would be a good gift for the man you know better than anyone else ever ever and aren’t you the most connected wife of them all, why didn’t you speak up before the money was spent? Seems pretty shitty of you to snipe after the fact. Kiss up.
apparently New Wife takes precedence over New Baby. so, bad timing for Christine and Truely for that extra time they needed from hubby/daddy! ;'( gosh, this lifestyle works so well in more ways than one, doesn't it?
DeleteThank so much Cynical Jinx! I don't know how you twist these episodes into so much laughter but you always highlight the ridiculous visuals I miss. Thank you for reminding me why I can't look away. I relish your reviews so much. The screen shot of Robchin is awesome.
ReplyDeleteWow-are we just going to see the usual lies every episode now? Now just a constant stream of expensive gifts, new cars and mansion dreams on TLC's dime? While they constantly claim they are concerned with their budgets? Seriously are we supposed to think the Browns are frugal? They have never been concerned about budgets in the past. THEIR numerous bankruptcies suggest that they live above their means and always have.
I think Logan is great and will be missed allot, I've always said he was the only adult out of the whole bunch.
Poor jealous Christine. It only makes sense that if we are to assume they go in order with the rotation that Kody would be leaving Christine early to get to his new younger bride. Make sense that some of Christine's jealousy is due to actual loss of conjugal visit. Yuck!
The only other thing about the softball questions that I thought was interesting...that others have already brought up...protection. Quadruple YUCK! Easy answer would have been, "Our religion doesn't believe in contraception." But instead we get...
Mean girl Meri-no need
Gal-pal Janelle-no need
Christine declares that she is done!
Slack jaw Robchin-baby factory open for business for her fetus or any others.
What really bothers me about the wiegh-in is that Truely is 19 pounds at 20 months. I went back and watched her birth show and she was a normal 7 pounds plus at birth. She should be closer to 25 pounds. This baby is failure to thrive and that is not being addressed. Could it be that all the stress of the adding Robyn and Christine's obsession with Kody has clouded the time spend nursing her child? This child needs medical care to address her poor growth and development.
ReplyDeleteIn the same episode from her birth a much skinnier Robin has all the kids at her house playing Barbies. I was sicked to see that they were only given four female dolls and a male doll to play Sister Wives and the children were having the male doll visit each of the wife dolls and getting in and out of bed with him. These children were focused on the sexual relationships that Kody is having with each wife and trying to make sense of it all. Very Sad
I went back and watched the very first episode of season one (I am a latecomer to SW) and was shocked to see Janlle going to work each morning leaving Logan to care for five younger siblings and cook them all breakfast at the age of 14, putting them all on the bus. Who makes a boy of fourteen a surrogate spouse and father? That was heart rending to me that this boy has never had a childhood.
These people are every bit as abusive to their children as the groups in Shortcreek.
And still no hair. Christine's kids are so cute, especially the girls, that my heart aches for them. Truly is by far my favorite person on this show, even more than Logan and Hunter.
DeleteCome on. Every baby who is 7 pounds at birth doesn't grow the same way. She looks, happy, healthy, and still bald. She is adorable.
DeleteShe'd weigh more if she had hair.
DeleteI agree with Sue. My first child was tiny at birth and the whole first year and then went from 25th to 75th percentile and has stayed on that line since. My second was my largest at birth, but has been tiny since then. Every kid is different. Truely seems happy and she seems to understand what people say to her. I think she's healthy and fine.
Also: I kinda agree about Logan. On one hand, it’s important for children to learn responsibility and know how to cook and how to coral and to help the family unit. On the other hand, isn’t that supposed to be the benefit of sister wives? Having another mother to help raise “your” children (cook breakfast; get them ready for school…)
Also: I kinda agree about Logan
The more of these shows I watch, the more I hate Robyn....her sobbing, her 'poor me' attitude', her saying she knew Kody didn't want a computer, etc, etc....so annoying...not a fan of Meri, either, but she is even easier for me to take than Robyn....
ReplyDeleteSeveral points:
ReplyDelete1) Why doesn't Kody and Robyn apologize to Christine for any part they may have played as well?
2) Robyn is still at her old games. So, you knew that Kody wouldn't want the computer but you didn't say anything? Why didn't you? Why say something WAY after the fact? It just makes it look like you know Kody better or makes the other wives look bad. Bet you anything she got another side gift for him from just her. She is trying to make sure she is the fav. wife for sure. Also, Robyn if you soo want Kody's relationship with Christine to go well, how about you make sure he is fair and not try to hog all the attention and manipulate your way into everything.
3) I soo want Kody to get a fifth wife soon! The negative reaction Robyn had to the idea makes me think she would not handle it well and therefore this needs to happen!
4)This family is constantly contradicting itself. To me, one of the more glaring ones is the fact that they admit to being lonely and needing/wanting more attention/time, yet later on go to say the lifestyle never allows you to be lonely. Whatever!
5)Last but not least, anyone else notice that all the other wives were laughing and smiling when jabs at Kody/jokes at his expense were being made, except for Robyn? She just looked straight ahead. Wanting to appear ever loyal and protective huh? Bet you she will point that out to Kody later.
i have a strong feeling that Kody has already privately and secretly assured Robyn he will not be getting a 5th wife. i think that's why she acts so smug and secure in her relationship w/him and she honestly doesn't care whether the other wives like her or not other than it makes Kody's life easier if they do.
DeleteKody said in one of the recent interviews that if he had a "higher calling" to add another new wife he would do it.
DeletePromises to Robyn or not, Kody is a proven Liar. If Robyn hasn't figured that out by now, well, nevermind it's Robyn!
DeleteAwesome recap CJ. Although, I only ever had one question about the birthday episode and it was for Robyn... if you knew that Kody didn't really want the computer then why didn't you share this insight with the rest of the class, after all... that would have been the polite thing to do. Also, it wouldn't have made everyone feel like idiots when he wasn't that enthusiastic by the present. I have to wonder if Robyn gave him a much better gift later as a way of cementing her place as the best of all of his wives, because it is clear that she is one of the mean girls!
ReplyDeleteI have not seen what their source of income is to sustain this family. I imagine they get something from TLC and perhaps this is enough like the Goesselins' received from Kate and John Plus Eight?
ReplyDeleteI do like this show and I can't explain why.
What bothered me the most about this week's episode was Kody's comment about the birthday crown. When one of the kids put it on his head, his response was to complain and question how long he would have to wear it. The saddest part was that the child just took the comment in stride. I know many parents who wear crowns, signs and display stuff that the kids have given them. I have also been given these "treasures". I may think to myself "do i really have to wear this?" but I always do and am never anything except enthusiastic about it.
ReplyDeleteSecond most bothersome was the computer complaint. As an adult, birthday gifts are often things you need. The comment about getting a job was just bizarre.
Samantha, I have a frightening porcelain cat on my shelf, staring at me, haunting me as I sleep. But I still tell my four-year-old, who is so very proud of the gift she picked out with her father, that I love it because she gave it to me.
DeleteKody is not an example of how adults should interact with children. Which is sad, since he’s got so many…
Did anyone else notice that Robyn weighed more in this episode than she did at last year's weigh in when she was 6 months preggers (and showing)? I think the whole Truly vs Sol weigh in was Christine's way of getting in a dig ab out Robyn's inability to loose the baby fat. heh
ReplyDeleteAlso, during Christine's confessional to Robyn, when Christine said "she felt left" by Kody, ever generous and empathetic Robyn just has to ask "Why do you think he left?"
OMG, the real answer in Christine's mind must have been "because you're a whiny self-serving biotch." But Christine has learned that speaking from the heart will only add to her woes, so she has to think fast, edit her own thoughts, and throw herself under the bus and blame Kody's leaving her on her own jealousy.
What an utter piece of moldy excrement Robyn is for that little manipulation.
Finally, CJ I think you need to change the picture on your account to be the one of Robyn at the top of your review here. That picture is iconic of the entire family. It is a salute to her own dysfunction and is probably the most attractive picture of her face around. I think that picture of her needs to go viral, with captions and all.
I can't remember what Robyn weighed last year but did wonder if she is more or less now!
Deletei think Meri has met her match in Robyn w/the passive/aggressive manipulation skills. Janelle just isn't emotionally invested in Kody and Christine is too honest w/her feelings and wears her heart on her sleeve - to her own detriment w/the easy ammo she gives Meri and Robyn to use against her when they manipulate Kody.
DeleteRobyn weighed 158 at the Diet Woes weigh-in.
DeleteAs time goes on, the only one I can stand is Janelle. however, I noticed at the restaurant Christine didn't tear up at all when Robyn was crying. She looked like "tough shit chick". I hope she really does get fed up and get out.
ReplyDeleteOkay, well, I almost lost my lunch when Kody bemoaned how each wife has her own birthday, but all of the wives have his.....really?!?!? So the mothers of your children, Kody, get to have you to themselves for dinner as a special treat, while the entire clan makes a huge deal out of YOUR birthday?!?!? You poor baby. AND, those awful wives had the nerve to buy you a computer for your special day? Now you feel obligated to work? What the heck did he want for his birthday, hair mousse and a fifth wife?!?!? WOW!! I have seen both Meri and Janelle on computers, so Kody has access to a computer, and in theory, work.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Robyn's snarky remark about knowing that Kody wouldn't like the laptop just made her seem like a jerk. She could have voiced this when they were deciding on the gift in the first place. She'd better hope Christine doesn't snap.
But Rev. Tex - that was just Robyn showing everyone how she knows Kody better than any of them that have lived with him 15-20 years longer than her. once again, it doesn't matter if it was a lie she was telling to make the brownie points with Kody.
DeleteRobyn's remark about "knowing Kody didn't want the laptop" was an example of her "kindness" to her sisterwives.
Deletea) she threw out a "secret" that only she knew. A tantalizing little gem to make the other women jealous
b) although she knew he didn't want it, she hid that fact from the other women when they were discussing the gift. They clearly did discuss the gift amongst themselves. Way to sandbag everyone else.
How "kind" she is!
Of course, there's the possibility that Robyn DIDN'T know and just kept her trap shut during the selection and was surprised as the other wives were by Kody's non-reaction to the Mac. That gives her the opportunity to look like HEY I KNOW WHAT HE LIKES BETTER THAN YOU LADIES DO! lol
DeleteRobyn sure does like her secrets with Kody, doesn't she? We've all seen enuff to notice a pattern so I wonder how many they really have together?!? The other wives need to watch thier back cuz Robyn has a Big Shit Stick & she like to Stir The Pot!
DeleteMy kids were thrilled to get laptops for gifts. My 12 year-old nephew has been saving his money for a couple of years to get the laptop he wants. Who wouldn't be thrilled with such a gift? Maybe a child like Kody who might prefer a free round of paintball--or maybe a new skateboard would have made him happy!
ReplyDeleteKing Kody has never been one to study... but he's clearly been one to marry!
ReplyDeleteWhen Kody was talking about his birthday and him being owned by each of his wives he meant his birthday would be better if HE had a break from all the females in his life for a day. He finds it very overwhelming to keep four very different personalities happy at all times. I wish he could find a fifth wife just so Robyn can see what it does the family. Shaking things up is a nice way of saying we just survived a tornado. Robyn truly doesn't see what she's done. You probably never will. Remember, it's not personal against Robyn. It's just her "position." (Position under or on top?)
ReplyDeletehe should make it a birthday tradition that it's him and just his boys out doing something together. then maybe repeat it the next week-end w/his daughters. those kids never get any special "me" time cause the wives are all having to compete for it.
Deletethis is such an unhealthy lifestyle on so many levels. that's why meri, christine and robyn are way more screwed up than Janelle since they were all raised in it and she wasn't.
So much to comment on. I could not believe that Christine and Robyn could not figure that simple math problem out. That was very sad. It was also extremely awkward. Christine was trying so hard....and Robyn was eating it up. I will say though...I don't have as much sympathy for Christine as others do. Christine did the same thing to Janelle when she joined the family. I really don't understand why that was okay in her eyes....but now that the shoe is on the other smelly foot...she is raging with jealousy. I think all of the women with the exception of Janelle are extremely jealous. I don't blame them. I would never be able to comply to this type of lifestyle. I can't even fathom how hard it must be to stomp down those feelings and continue being perfect so that I will be called to heaven. Ughh.
ReplyDeleteThe main thing I REALLY noticed this time around was Robyn's blatant attempt to secure her throne with Kody. She is now starting to feel very secure in her position. Did you see her face when Christine was mimicking Kody's reaction when he opened the laptop. She was not happy they were making fun of her man. Then her RIDONCULOUS comment of "This is making Kody sad" when they were talking about what would happened if he died. I wanted to slap her. And then her smugness when she and Christine were on the talking couch.....commenting on whether they will have more children. "I might have more....and Mary might as well." I think she knows that Mary is the Matriarch and her selfless gift of life is only to further secure her position to sidle up to Mary....and take over the throne completely.
it's a sad day, Christine, when even Robyn can figure out a simple math problem in her simple head faster than you. wasn't it Christine who was home schooling some of the younger kids for awhile at one time? or maybe it's just her "sunday school teacher" lessons i'm thinking of that she's so proud of.
DeleteThis show concerns me on different levels. Christine is jealous, blunt, and persnickety. Janelle is just content to exist. I doubt if he even "sleeps" with her anymore. Meri is depressed. She wanted more children. I feel she puts up a good "game" face. She feels less of a woman because she's only conceived one child in twenty plus years. Robyn is the force to be reckoned with. If Kody had to choose only one wife, she would be it. She seems like she'd stab everyone in the back for Kody. She is in it for him. Kody is an immature, hypocritical, blasphemous, helmet wearer. Just buy him a hover round and park him in the corner. What a waste of oxygen! He is doing this "family" a true disservice. I watch just so I can witness the inward downward spiral that is the Brown family.
ReplyDeleteI thought I would take a moment to intro myself. I have been reading for a few months but usually from my iPad and I don't like to type on that thing.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the show because I love the cultural aspects it brings up. Which is also why I like to read here. Everyone's take is so interesting.
I am 100% against plural marriage. I believe it is not God's plan for a man to be married to more than one woman at a time. I see in the Bible that He allowed it but it doesn't say why and it from those examples I only see negative aspects of it. I could go on here but I suspect it will come up. Oh- I am a Christian from protestant mainstream but not well known denomination. I went to a Christian College and have an AA in music and youth ministry. My husband is a pastor. I only mention those things to give you an idea of where I am coming from.
I have been married for almost 18 yrs. We have four children. I started working full time for the first time in 15 yrs last year. I am working nights at our local hospital as a nurse's aide.
Blessings,
His Only
the show is going down the tubes fast. I'd like them to explain more about their religion, because all this jealousy and bad feelings among the women is very sad and they offer no explanation as to why it's important for them to live this way.
ReplyDeleteI think Meri has it easy, because she only has one child, so I'm kinda surprised the other wives don't rely on her help more. If they're all one happy family that have to live in separate houses for now, why couldn't the children be distributed evenly among all the moms? About 4 kids per house is much more manageable, no? Why do they have to live with their biological moms if all the moms are their moms? So it seems it's really 4 separate families living in a kinda kibbutz way with the moms sharing one man.
I agree with everyone here that Christine is suffering the most emotionally. If all you ever wanted to be was a 3rd wife, which implies being the last wife, well that dream has been shattered.
Janelle may or may not be convinced of their religion, maybe she might be gay but because of her mormon religion and beliefs in living this way is an easy trade, I don't know, but she doesn't seem to be very invested emotionally. Also, she's the one with the brains and I think she suffers by having to put up with dodos like Christine and Robyn ("Y as in Wyoming")
Robyn does play the victim a lot though I do believe she wasn't fully accepted at first and her kids probably had a tough time, and I do think she does have to put up with a lot of crap, but she does because behind closed doors, she's the favorite one who gets most of Kody's attention, so she's willing to be the victim and milks that for all it's worth. Notice how she often has secrets with Kody the other wives don't know? Like the wedding dress, though I genuinely think she knew she shouldn't let Kody choose and that it was not going to go well with the other wives, but Kody probably bullied her into it.
Kody definitely has a dark side, I'd hate to see him go ballistic, which I'm sure he does.
This guy is not a man, he is the laziest hump I have ever seen....never helps any of his wives with the kids, does not work, does not do house work.
ReplyDeleteI say LADIES boot this lazy hump to the curb, with Robin also...
He does do housework...Robyn's housework! He's Robyn's bitch!!!
Deletei can only imagine that Robyn and Kody at this point would be more than happy to sail off into the sunset w/nothing more than each other and Sol.
DeleteWhen I watched this episode, I kept thinking of everything I wanted to comment on here. Man, I've forgotten most of it!!!
ReplyDeleteI read this blog religiously and I always agree with everyone's take on Robyn, but I've never shared the complete disdain for her that everyone else has... until this episode. There were a few things in this episode, but the piece that really put me over the edge was the comment that "ACTUALLY, I knew Kody wouldn't like the laptop". What is that? Robyn, why don't you just say to the other wives, "I know Kody better than you guys do and we have a better marriage that you guys have." I wanted to slap her and I'm not a part of the family! So, I know share in the complete disdain of Robyn :)
I also wanted to say that I though Janelle looked BEAUTIFUL in the second episode! I don't think the other wives give her enough credit, but she is (in my opinion) the prettiest of all 4 wives.
CJ - great synopsis as usual!
O yeah forgot to add, this is not the Lexus that Christine is driving with Janelle in the car to study real estate...is this another new car??? It is a Mitsubishi convertable with a black top, Lexus has a white top. How many new cars does that make now?
ReplyDeleteOMG lisasumms! You are RIGHT!!
DeleteMaybe that's Aspyn's car? But that means (counting fingers)....hm...(taking off shoes...haha just kidding!) at least 4 cars not counting the LIV one.
That math scene ... my word. Both need to do something to better themselves and become more independent. That would do wonders for their self-esteem. Notice Janelle is not all clingy like them.
ReplyDeleteSo Robyn and Meri are definitely SWF (Sister Wives Forever) b/c Robyn is the one Meri texts when everyone else gets on her nerves.
Christine took jabs at Kody the whole episode. She's angry. Trying to hide it, but it's there.
I really don't think that Meri likes Christine. Trying to hide it, but it's there.
Christine and Janelle should just find Kody a fifth wife. Problem solved.
yes, it's obvious that Christine feels no respect from Kody and is giving him publicly none in return. she must figure at this point, "what do i have to lose? he ignores me and treats me like crap anyway. i'll take my shots when it's safe to do so."
DeleteWhy not seven wives? Then they get one day each. I know it would be hard on Kody to have his belongings spread among seven houses, but it gives all the wives even more opportunity to "be sweet" and prove what a wonderful "lifestyle" they embrace.
ReplyDeleteActually, I'm rather astounded that anyone thinks polygamy is a good idea. Except for Joseph Smith's need for sexual variety with no consequences, it just makes no sense on any level.

LOL - CJ - i think i love your pics picks most of all! especially the Robyn ones. so good! lol but "bless her heart." seriously - as she herself is a victim of that gawdforsaken religion/lifestyle and doesn't even realize it. but it helps me to LOL about it cause most of the time i find their whole ordeal terribly sad and depressing for all. sometimes i can't help but shudder and think, "there but for the grace of God, go I." thanks for the much need levity!!
ReplyDeleteGood Evening, We decided to not purchase "satalite" TV any longer and I don't watch much TV but have watched this show in the past....but no longer. It was fun reading everyones take on the chaos at the Brown's....thanks for the update. I am surprised they don't just buy like a warehouse and everybody takes a floor...Thanks for the laughs looking forward to reading what everyone things next week! Heather Cross
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Robyn is illiterate.
ReplyDeleteRemember the scene at the Chinese buffet? She had to go to the kitchen to ask if they had chicken. Usually these places have a little sign that says what each dish is.
She says she gets text messages, but she could just call the person who sent it to find out what they wanted.
She presumably writes on her twitter account, but that could easily be Kody doing the reading and typing.
TLC has never shown her really reading anything. I think it's because she can't read!
She read a couch question.
DeleteI am so over Robyn! My gosh she had nerve sayin she will strangle Kody if he got a new wife those were Christines thoughts a year ago and it didnt change anything! And Kodys face never changes emotionally until Queen Robin speaks! His eyes are always on her face watching her reaction.
ReplyDeleteYes, I can't believe she would actually say that! This is supposed to be a religious principle and men are encouraged to have as many "wives" and children as possible. Just shows that her motive for going after Kody was nothing to do with religion.
DeleteAwesome, awesome comments!!! Everything I wanted to say has been covered. Maybe a little more reiteration: every vehicle I see them driving is a two seater coupe. Shows their inner selfishness. Each adult in that family. Robyn- shoot me!!!!!! Dang, absolutely awful. I made sure to watch all expressions and body language. Yeah, she didn't want to hand Christine Sol for her weighin. I swear I saw Christine snicker when Robyn started to cry. I wanted to slap Robyn for interrupting the "if kody dies" story. Actually, every time I saw her or heard her I wanted to just die. Both these recent episodes were 100% Robyn. Wow. Was not prepared for that. Lol. I thought she had wised up and went silent.
ReplyDeletedid anyone notice during the question about what is it about Kody that bothers the wives it was all jokey jokey until Robyn had a response. look at his hurt look when she answers. very real, very hurt that anything about him would bother robin. This is a tragic thing for a man to actually have real feelings for his wife, obviously it wont last. as soon as she starts acting like a wife it will be time for a revelation.... #5!
ReplyDeleteKimberly
So many things to say after this week's episodes. Let's start with the Q&A session. I'm thinking maybe this was filmed after this season wrapped because Meri's accident was months before, and there's no "Super Sol" in this episode. Also, my Lord was Robyn extra moody this episode. She had a sour face the whole time except when bestie Meri was joking around or Kody was blessing us with his intelligence. And I was hoping SO SO bad that Christine would've called Robyn out when she threw her "5th wife" fit. And I don't believe for one second that Christine is fine with one of her kids being homosexual. She couldn't say the word homosexual or lesbian or anything. And why was the divorce question only directed towards Robyn? Janelle was divorced also, but I guess it's because Janelle doesn't turn on the waterworks for camera. Also, I would sincerely like to thank the producers and/or editors for once again subjecting me to the image of Kody and Christine floating in their pool, FULLY CLOTHED!! Why Christine, Why? Nevermind that Kody didn't seem to mind running around the beach (in front of strangers) in his swim trunks with his new wife Robyn, who by the way was only in her bikini, but he couldn't wear pool clothes in his own enclosed private backyard around his own family.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the birthday episode, I can't hardly wrap my mind around how immature Kody is. I'm always seriously annoyed by how bonded he is with his "Super Sol" and how he can't even be shown holding Truley. I'm fairly positive that the producers suggest that Solomon needs to be in these shots, and to give the Brown's a little bit of credit (very minute) this show is VERY edited, but seriously Kody, i guess it didn't occur to you that maybe you should've spent more time bonding with what could be your last daughter instead of making out with your fiance. And I'm pretty sure that Solomon was pooping when he was holding him.
I'd shit if Kodsturd was holding me too....lol
DeleteOMG I'm LMAO at the comment about Robyn being illiterate. That's what cult-based "religious" schooling gets you. And none of them can spell - Kody misspelled Hanukkah as "Hanukka" on his twitter feed, and Meri thought the heel of a foot was spelled "heal." I hope the Kody Krew are reading this!
ReplyDeleteThey fantasize about all the kids coming back home as "college-educated" adults, yet they have put no emphasis on education. That training needs to begin at an early age.
Also, I am around the same age as the original recipe wives, and I put money aside for a year to buy a MacBook Pro!! If someone so generously gifted this to me, I would have been ecstatic! That's not a cheap computer. What an idiot ingrate Kody is.
I still love this show because I find the "lifestyle" interesting, but it is also a guilty pleasure because I just laugh out loud at Kody and Krew (mostly Kody). I put no blame on the kids of course.
Kody, use the laptop for doing research on your "businesses", for your "marketing" company, or even for reading this blog! Let's see an episode with K taking the Apple One-on-One classes at the Apple Store. Vegas has three of them on the Strip alone!
To be fair - there are about a hundred ways to spell Hanukkah, and twitter isn't exactly known for correct spelling. But the entire Hanukkah scene was bizarre.
DeleteI can't believe Kody's reaction to the computer. Maybe he should give it to Logan for school.
The one person who mentioned Kody having 7 wives so each gets one night. That's a great idea. Each wife will have Kody hanging around all day! (Of course that is if he stays unemployed as he has been since like forever).
DeleteMassengill - let's not ever forget Robyn's cheerleader yelling voice for her group pic, "Everybody! Make a Y for Yoming!" ;')
DeleteI don't get how these women dress. Why do they always were two shirts?
ReplyDeleteOn the couch session, whenever Christine spoke, Kody looked visibly annoyed (or more so than usual), at one point, he was shaking his head around and mocking her. Or that's how I saw it. Did anyone else notice that he said something about if a wife asks her husband for a divorce, she can have one...or something to that effect? I honestly wonder if he really just wants Christine to 'ask' for a divorce so he can be done with her. Look at the horrible way he is treating her. He has made her go on an apology tour for the entire season, actually at the end of last season with the birth episode. Maybe he is trying to break her and hope she will leave. He just seems so over the top with his abandonment of her.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there seems to be a lot of emphasis this season on the 'individual budgets' of each wife. Thought the whole point of the plural marriage was the communal aspect of helping each other out (i.e Christine stayed home with the kids, Janelle worked, Meri stayed home tidying up her house and eating healthy)...but now we keep hearing about the wives budgets and Kody mentioned at the Christmas episode about each wive having their own money to budget and spend. Think he is trying to tell us something? Maybe its because they don't want to get charged with welfare fraud (Christine used to collect welfare/WIC/food stamp benefits)? From what I have read on polygamist families, not only do the wives have to share a husband and spit out a bunch of kids, they also have to bring in the money, too. The husband is too busy 'hearing inspiration' to worry about work.
We don't really see Kody spending any time trying to make any money. The wives talk about 'the marketing company' (MLM scheme), Janelle and Christine are studying for real estate licenses, Meri and Robyn are setting up the online store (great business women that they are, not ready to go when the public may actually be interested for now), etc. Look closely, the wives are trying to get the businesses started, not Kody. Even Fundamental Fitness showed only the wives working out. Wouldn't you imagine that Kody is telling Janelle and Christine that they blew that opportunity because they hadn't lost weight? I can see that being their fault in his eyes. This man does not intend to work hard to support his huge family. He expects his wives to do the heavy lifting. It's the way of polygamy. So this is the lifestyle they want us to accept?
I think you might be on to something CPA Carol. I haven't really thought of it before but maybe he is baiting Christine for a divorce. The way she's been grovelling might not only be for ratings but that Kody gave her an ultimatum, don't like it leave. In all honesty I don't think he'd care that much if she did and she knows it which must be very hurtful and frustrating.
DeleteAs for Robyn she certainly seems to be asserting herself as the favorite wife I think even good ol' mare isn't liking that too much.
Good point, CPA Carol, about Kody baiting Christine to ask for a divorce...at a place I worked at, when they wanted to get rid of someone without actually firing them, they would treat that person miserably, hoping they would quit...reminds me of how Kody is treating Christine....I wish she had the
Delete_ _lls to leave the situation she is in....
yeah - he said Christine brought the fun into the marriage. well, she ain't bringing it now. so, strike one. he said she smoothed their family over by bridging the gap w/Meri and Janelle. well, Meri's got her mean girl Robyn now to gang up with so, Christine's no longer needed for that either. Strike 2 there. Christine's done having babies and they're all sealed to Kody for his planet so, STRIKE 3 - SHE's OUT!!
Deletewhatever - he certainly doesn't seem too attached to her nor her kids. so... he's got the upper hand in this deal. Christine will have to keep begging for crumbs or just be content to starve to death emotionally.
New drinking game: take a shot when Robyn cries, you'll be swinging from the chandeliers before you can say "frontal lobes"
ReplyDeleteGreat comments all! I echo many of the sentiments above.
Kody is the numero uno narcissist, with the emotional capacity of a teaspoon. (Sorry, that was too rude, I don't have anything against teaspoons, at least teaspoons help people make food)
Meri irks me, her comments are like nails on chalkboard. Passive-agressive and and an ever so warped view of the world and her "reality."
Janelle used to be my favourite. Until I realized her pain is self-inflicted and she's smart enough to know better but remains lazily complacent anyways. I find it interesting that her daughter Maddie (my new favourite) is the most outspoken about not becoming a polygamist... Methinks she's seen all too well first-hand the emotional toll it takes on women.
Christine used to annoy me, then she solicited my pity, now she both annoys and solicits my pity at the same time. Her mind was washed from day one. She's believes in the principle whole-heartedly despite the mounting evidence it's wrong, but she'll never change.
Robyn. Ew. She is so far up Kody's you-know-what that the lack of oxygen's cut off any remaining healthy brain cells (not that she had much to begin with). She is Kody's favourite for good reason: she treats him like a god, perpetuates the "sweet" sisterwife vibe, and doesn't think for herself (which is great for a narcissist like Kody)
ModernWife, you hit the nail on more heads than one.....especially about Robyn and the way she treats Kody....he just laps up all that adoration, doesn't he??
DeleteAnd he is so far out there, I'm sure he feels he deserves it! When you wrote that Robyn doesn't think for herself, that really clicked with me: that is what Kody wants: a wife (wives) that does NOT think for herself, because then she could call him on some of the crap he puts out there...and that's where I believe his relationship is with Christine now.....she probably called him on things he did and didn't do...and poor Kody didn't like it so much....so he goes to Robyn's and she makes nice to him....yuck, he is not any different from other men that don't think with their brain....
I thought the math scene was comical and I think it was meant to be. Some people just can't do math in their heads and grew up in a school system that lets kids use calculators in elementary school. This is the first post I read on this blog, and it seems you just don't like Robyn's personality that much? :)
ReplyDeleteI went back yesterday and watched all the shows from Season 1. I wanted to see if I could really tell the cracks in the surface from that point. What I saw and had forgotten - was how VERY sneaky and calculating Robin is. She had them go to the dress shop with her to pick out her wedding gown and Robin played coy, the whole time she had already selected the gown with Kody. Christine confronts him when he drops 'his bombshell' and like a small, pouty child he says 'he didnt feel like he should of been left out' and Christine makes the comment of what groom is involved in the dress part? That Kody could of cared less what she wore. Christine gets off the couch and leaves the interview and you can see Kodsturd face just turning red.... But not before Robin makes the comment that she didnt feel like they needed to know that. Are you really that fake and stupid? Go pretend to be shopping for a gown and acting like their opinion matters? I think it was just an opportunity for her to prance around in these form fitting gowns while the first wives looked more like old maids.
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by to say hello to everyone and welcome to new posters!
ReplyDeleteGreat comments everyone!
My take on the math scene - Christine and Robyn were having trouble with the math because they couldn't focus, they are really that uncomfortable with each other. I have trouble thinking when forced to talk to someone I hate.
ReplyDeletei'll buy that. why did they pick to go out to a restaurant and be public to get the emotional air cleared between them? that's awkward for one and certainly not enjoyable to try to eat food while having such a talk.
DeleteI haven't read anyone's comments yet, will do so in a moment. First I would like to share what I felt when I watched Sunday nights episode. (May 27th)
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for Christine. She shouldn't feel that she needs to always apologize for the way she is feeling. If anyone needs to be apologetic, it should be Kody.
My views have changed when it comes to Robyn. I felt sad for her. When Christine arrived to Robyn's home, I could just feel the sadness Robyn was feeling. You could just see the hurt in her eyes. Yes, she did shed some tears at the restaurant but when the 5 of them were on the interview couch with the questions, Robyn tried really, really hard not to cry. And good for her, she didn't shed a tear. I one have bashed Robyn, and at my age, I can't believe I called her (witchiepoo) Very immature of me. It's true, the position Robyn and Christine are in, they would have problems. But they are working through them. I see them becoming very close in the future.
I do believe that if......Meri left the scene and it was only Janelle, Christine and Robyn and of course Kody, I do believe they all would have such a wonderful marriage. To me it seems as if Meri is the head of this marriage. What she says, goes. She is way too bossy and controlling.
Advise to Kody: Please hold lil' Truely once in awhile. She is still little and needs your affection, just as you are always giving your affection to baby Sol.
These are 5 grown adults....if the women want out, I'm sure they can leave anytime. I'm beginning to see that they want this life and are doing whatever it takes to make it work. Just as you and I would work hard to make our own marriages work.
I'm just glad to see that all wives have their own homes. Looking forward to seeing their new homes.
Robyn...if you read this blog, I do apologize for the cruel things I have said about you, that may have effected your sadness and hurt <3
Oh please. Are you sure you aren't really Robyn? She brings it on herself and makes every situation about her. She is manipulative and hurtful. Christine is right. I just wish she would get the courage to say it.
DeleteI kinda feel you on your comments about Robyn. I think she's sincere. I do believe, however, that there is no way to see her true character as a sister wife until she is "replaced".
DeleteJust have to say the picture posted of Robyn is priceless. I think she is looking for her frontal lobe in that shot! Snark~Snark~
ReplyDeleteMaybe someone can answer my question (probably asked & answered a zillion times )
ReplyDeleteWhen they all talk about the "budget" for each separate family, where does this money come from?
Robyn doesn't seem to work. Christine doesn't work. Meri doesn't appear to work and not sure about Jannelle.
So does Kody divvy up his earnings between them or do they get welfare and have income from that?
I'll be PO'd if this about welfare, these blobs sit around adding babies for their heavenly bank acct better be providing for their own cuz I'm not interested in putting food on their table while they do get at least some money from TLC.
j
It seemed like Meri was pushing for the computer for Kody. Maybe that's why Robyn didn't speak up.
ReplyDeleteyeah, Meri nixed Christine's watch suggestion. Robyn questioned the $$ availability for the computer. Janelle agreed w/Meri to get Kody a big expensive present like that and then said she needed to go cause she'd already wasted enough time on something she gives a rat's butt about let alone to sit w/them any longer and pretend to be a group of friendly, loving sister wives. she could feel her gag factor coming on strong.
DeleteI agree! I think Meri had the say so on what the sister wives were going to buy Kody for his b-day.
DeleteJanelle, Christine and Robyn need to get strong and start standing up for themselves and not let Meri boss them around and be so controlling.
Did anyone else catch Robin's comment to the children coming out question? How she would just feel so "sad" for the children, because people would not accept them and they would live such a hard life. We get it, you don't want your children growin' up homo, but you can't really say that on national television while wanting people to accept your own very unconventional lifestyle choice, so you have to mask your words, but does she think at all before she opens her trap?!?! What position does she think the children are in currently? They have forced all their kids into being a part of this polygamist lifestyle, and coming out to world. Does she not feel "sad" about what they face everyday because of their parents' selfish decision? Does she not think that them growing up to be polygamists with multiple partners will further ostracize them from society??
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think people are much more open to homosexuality than to plural "marriage." Heck, I'd pick having a same-sex partner to being a part of the circus that they call marriage any day. At least there's a mutual love and respect involved in that, and its not a daily competition to see which plural wife comes out as number one. All that scheming and manipulation has got to be mentally exhausting. To top it all off, 75% of the time the wives are single parents anyway (to be honest it's more like 100% of the time, since Kody obviously is not interested in the upbringing of his kids, he just wants all his wives to keep poppin' em out so he can elevate his status as god or what not)! The wives are not getting anything out of this. How are they so blinded by The Kreepy Kody Show?!?!??
You are right. Same sex marriage is legal in more states than bigamy. Funny how she doesn't think her plural marriage lifestyle is "sad."
DeleteAfter a lot of thought about how this family can financially make things work, I have more questions than I do answers. Just from a pre-TLC/pre-reality show perspective for now...Kody has one legal wife, Meri with one daughter. From a legal perspective, we have Christine, single mother with 5 children (Truely was born once the show started). As such, Christine was eligible for governmental assistance such as WIC, food stamps, Section 8 housing $ (she probably paid 'rent' to 'the family'), medicaid for the kids, etc. Then we have Janelle. Single working mother but also with 6 children. Depending on her income, she probably qualifies to state assisted 'child care' (which she could 'pay to Christine'), and some other benefits. Remember, she would have 7 dependents (including herself) so her taxable income would be very low (I am a CPA!)....so we have two women getting governmental assistance of some sort, Christine getting more. So did all the money go into one big pot?? So Kody, Meri and the rest could all live on the subsidies? Flash forward to today and the TLC money, now all of a sudden the wives have separate budgets? Their own money? How is it divided? It should be by number of dependents, i.e. Meri should not get 1/5 of the $$ (4 wives + Kody)because she has fewer dependents. Somehow, I think Christine and Janelle are being scammed out of money here. It just seems that the whole money thing changed when they actually start making some?? Thoughts? Any ideas on how NV pays out for governmental assistance? Does TLC money go into some 'corporate' name and we now have single mothers still eligible to collect benefits? Under their maiden (non-Brown) names? I'm curious!!!
ReplyDeleteGirl, you need to hit the archives. All their bankruptcy filings are public. These people are pros. This isn't their first time at the government benefit rodeo.
DeleteInteresting questions.
DeleteIn the first season, I think I remember them discussing the finances. Janelle paid the mortgage on the house, Kody supported Christine and her kids and Meri supported herself and Mariah. If Janelle worked for the state of Utah, likely all her kids were on her medical insurance. Kody made some comment about his Utah employer allowing him to put his other children on his medical insurance. Under any scenario, the cost of living had to be way less in Utah than Las Vegas.
After reading some of the blog entries, I've begun to wonder if the whole investigation thing was not about polygamy per se, but some kind of inquiry into the whole public assistance angle.
I assume they have a corporate entity and all the wives and Kody are employees of the corporation. Sounds like some potential areas of audit on their federal taxes depending on how aggressive they are being with deductions and cost to do business. They may be writing off the trips as business expenses but it also depends on how TLC is paying or reimbursing. But clearly, the corporation or TLC has to be ponying up the payroll taxes on their earnings, which are significant.
And am I the only one who wonders how they will swing mortgages on new homes when they have all been through bankruptcy? Since the lending scandals, I would be kind of shocked if they somehow managed to qualify especially since none of them have regular employment.
I agree. My questions is, most states require the Mother to list the name of the Birth Father when they file for welfare, etc.. This way they can see if the Father is paying child support and they can garnish his wages and hold onto his income tax return (if he receives one) if he has not been paying. How do these women get Government assistance without it coming back on Kody?
DeleteAlso, I've searched and can't find an answer to this. How much do they get paid for this show?
Yep. Google one of their names and bankruptcy, pulls up the docs. I pulled Christine's from right after season 1 episode 1, read all 37 pages. That suburban that blew up on the way to Wyoming was hers, if I remember right. She does pay housing allowance. Explains a lot in there. Kody is such a failure at everything. Not man enough to support his children, wife, and baby mommas.
DeleteLogan is the sweetest kid ever!! He seems genuinely kind and down to earth....I guess that proves that Kody is only minimally involved in his kids' upbringing!
ReplyDeleteSomeone is going to have to help me out on this, I don't remember the exact wording. But during one of the episodes Kody said something regarding having more children and then he said "except for Meri" (or something to that effect). I honestly looked up at the screen, winced and said "ouch." I couldn't believe how rude that was; it's not like she chose to have fertility issues. And he knows the pain she feels because she can't get pregnant! Jeez Kodouche.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, this was when Kody said it was the wife's choice as to how many kids she wanted, and then Kody said 'sorry' to Meri and she was the one that actually said 'except for me' and she laughed....that's when Robyn had to chime in and remind Meri about 'the offer' she made to Meri about carrying a child for Meri....and I know Meri has always wanted more kids, but I hope she doesn't take Robyn up on it, Robyn would NEVER let Meri forget how much she sacrificed for Meri...
DeleteI was really shocked by that one too. I think that's part of what makes Meri tick. She feels extremely inadequate because she can not give him more children. I think it KILLS her and he knows it. He plays upon that. Why would Robin be so nervous to tell Meri she was preggers if it wasn't a very well known fact that it was a very touchy subject. It would be for most women. Then to have the new "trophy" wife (I remember a couch conversation between the wives about that) come in and immediately get pregnant....ugh. I think because of this, she tries to overcompensate by getting Kody his new pretty toy...aka Robyn.
DeleteI saw a preview today though when I was watching something else and Kody and Meri are talking about having another baby and you see them leaving the clinic or some "official" looking building together.
I can't believe no one has really commented on Robyn cutting in on when Kody was saying "Poor Meri, she didn't really have a choice on having more children or not" Robyn interrupted and said "She has a choice, I gave her a choice!" Meri probably doesn't want to feel indebted to Robyn for the rest of her life, because you know Kody and Robyn would constantly bring it up how selfless Robyn is.
ReplyDeleteJust got the "best seller" from the library. What a load of crap! All this talk of testimony and praying about taking on another wife! Ha! He didn't even tell Janelle and Christine when he and and Meri were thinking of adding Robchin. The first few chapters also show how he can't find a job he likes or stick with anything. The whole bunch are losers! Only the kids have hope. I think that once Logan leaves for school, he won't come back.
ReplyDeleteGot the "best seller" from the library, wouldn't want to pay for this tripe.
1. I believe that the photo of Robyn above must have been taken when Grody Kody asked her to help him study for his real estate license exam.
ReplyDelete2. Christine and real estate license -- couldn't this be her first step towards generating income in order to leave?
3. Not only is Kody an idiot for suggesting that laptop = work, but when have we EVER seen him toiling away in home office, leaving of "work" or mentioning anything that resembles money? I'm telling ya... got nothing in at least TWO seasons!
I'm still insanely curious about lack of teens on episodes so far this season...they seem to be totally absent, wonder if they all told parents that they were no longer "in"?
This site is wonderful. So glad that I am not the only one noticing how Kody really is. There are so many hard working couples out there working and they still cannot afford to buy their family a home. I cannot wait for next weeks show. Did anyone see the preview clip. They go to a bank for 4 homes loans. What loan company is willing to finance Kody and his 4 wives. First of all, I think that they have to be employed. I wonder if Kody is going to co-sign for all 4 homes. How is this possible. I bet TLC will pay for these homes. I am sure that TLC is paying the rent on these 4 homes. When this show started out, I was under the impression that the purpose of being Sister Wives was to help your sister with the cooking, the cleaning and the children. They lived in a big house but had separate living quarters. At least in this situation the kids were under the same roof with their dad. I really think that the women like having their own separate homes. If that's the case, then what's the point of having a Sister wife. I feel sorry for the kids. The next show also shows Kody in tears making it seem like they have been told no before when talking about getting the home loans. I would be really surprised if they get approval for 4 brand new homes. I wonder who will foot the downpayment. I also want to know how they pay for car insurance, health insurance, dental bills, food and clothing. There are so many expenses in raising such a large family and yet TLC makes it seem like money is no object. All we see are vacations, date nights, fancy cars and helicopter rides. They are sending the wrong message if they want to show normal. I do not feel that Christine should feel bad for being jealous. She is being human. When Meri told her to be sweet, she really meant to tell Christine to keep her mouth shut and be grateful for what she has. So wrong on so many levels. Janelle is just going through the motions. She just seems so sad and depressed. I must be really hard to put on this act for the cameras. Kody does not like when the wives go off script.
ReplyDeleteSewcrafty, I highly doubt that TLC is paying their rent directly - im sure that whatever they're being paid for the show itself is more than ample to pay the rent. My guess is that the Browns are being paid approx $500k/750k tops for each season. Their numbers aren't nearly as high as the Gosselins were at their peak, ratings wise. If I were TLC I would expect the browns to take care of their own living expenses - houses, food, clothing, insurance, etc, i think that except for the LIV car which is only a lease, the other "new" cars we've seen were purchased used. As far as vacations, date nights, and helicopter rides - I just googled and a tour of LV heli ride is $129 per person, I would be willing to bet that the tour co gave TLC a discount if not a freebie in exchange for the exposure, vacations? Just mentioning a trip to Mexico doesn't mean TLC is paying the tab. The Boston trip was probably courtesy of TLC since an entire episode was filmed there. I think kody's precious Lexus is a 2005?
DeleteBottom line is that TLC is paying them a nice salary so I doubt they are also paying $70k a year more on the browns rent. But that's just IMO - we will never know for sure...
So, did Meri miscarry again? I just saw another preview where she and Kody are going into the OBGYN and then they are both crying on the couch when Kody says that the doctor said "this is not a viable pregnancy."
