4 - Sister Wives "A Wife Decides" Spoilers, Gossip! s04e08 or s06e08 Mermaids

The Silverton Casino in Las Vegas, is employing mermaids to swim in its 117,000-gallon saltwater aquarium of tropical fish.
The casino’s Mermaid Lounge, an adults-only bar, has a big window that looks into the aquarium. But an even bigger window is on the other side, in a public space outside the casino.

The mermaids move gracefully under water, interacting with the 4,000 fish, even stingrays, and three species of sharks. The mermaids perform a synchronized swimming show with mermaids hanging out at the family window. Kids get the chance to give high-fives through the glass or blow kisses or play peekaboo; adults can admire the mermaid’s underwater back flips or ability to spin in a cocoon of bubbles.

Christine worried about indecent attire and compared mermaids to cocktail waitresses??? (quizzical look on my face)  The question for you is this... Do you think this little mermaid above is unseemly, untoward, unlady like? I don't.

Or do you think these modest is hottest folks should rethink their televised events?

Me thinks Mermaid wins the modesty award!

But wait! Maybe we should take another look....

Nope, still look fine. .O.K, they get scantier, but...What's worse?
A Little Mermaid action fantasy, or having to watch your "mother" give birth on TV?

While attending to the Mermaids, I found Kody's new wife! A Sweet, proper girl. Hey, she looks much more proper than ole Mare above!!
Click her name to read about her and see I am a Mermaid Blog!!

One more thing... you can even talk to a Santa Mermaid! Here's an adorable playful Mermaid....

  1. It goes back to their religion--or the lack there of. "We are fundamentalists!" Um, but you moved your kids to sin city and you are hanging out in a casino? They try to justify their extremely conservative (except for that whole pesky multiple wives thing) world view with going to a casino. Well guess what? You can't.

Hey, at least they addressed the hypocrisy--that's more than they usually do!

    1. Casinos are an awesome place for Mormon fundies to hang out. I'm sure the AUB would agree.

I liked how Kody said they weren't familiar with this type of business model. Uhh... yeah, it's not a MLM.

    3. When they lived in Utah, Christine and Krody went Vegas all the time, she said it was her favorite place! Plus I remember episodes where they were in Vegas zip lining through the casino! I find it odd now that they are trying to distance themselves!

I would think since they're swimming with sharks and not toasters and there'd have to be some major reconstructive surgery for Kodouche to access their cookies that Christine wouldn't have any problem with them at all.

Well, they said those Mermaids swam with stingrays...I guess when the Browns are peering at them through the glass, the Mermaids are looking at the sharks, not swimming with them.

Geez...and Christine was worried about a little Presbyterian Sunday School????

  3. I have been to Vegas numerous times and have never heard of that casino..but if they think they're going to bring throngs of people to the casino by offering the Sister Wives jewelry, I think they are in for a huge shock!
And for a group of people who try to act so conservative and righteous.....nice try!!! It's a CASINO!!

  5. I am a bit confused, if their religion does not allow gambling, then what other polygamist will be at a casino? This just does not make sense to me. Are they now just selling novelty souvenir jewelry??? I am sorry but where is the market for this in a casino if they themselves won't even go there. Do they really think of all the casino's there that people will go to that off the strip casino to go shopping for "guilty" items???

Surprise! It's a COOKIE MONSTER in bed with a COOKIE! Cutie patootie!

I read spoilers one and two last night and had to read several to my husband, heck, even he's watching now to try and catch funny things or hypocrisy’s. This blog should be thanked for driving their ratings up, or maybe keeping them from sinking? I agree with others that someone reads the blog to see what the viewers think and then project it into what we see next.

They lied to us the fist round of "Sister Wife's Closet" about them being "too busy the server's down" bwahahaha. Yeah, I bet they didn't sell much telling folks to come back tomorrow! now we know that was a bunch of grass fertilizer. What was it? Robyn get tired after the website got no order's and went to bed?

Now, they are trying to turn things around. To me, in the WRONG order.

      The wepage: expensive jewelry
The Guilt Store: cheap costume jewelry.

To me it should be the other way around. Sell the high end stuff where a winner might treat his gal, sell the cheap stuff online.

They just might make some at the Guilt store. I have a strange feeling it will turn the business around some. Maybe because I am a psychic that uses my warm toaster to tell me.

I say the will have a little "win" on this project.

They are making the jewelry much more mainstream - smart move. Maybe some hippie wants a tree or a fairy, IDK.

Did the bloggers here say they were going to talk about the jewelry? I am sure they will.

I'm still singing a few of my favorite things in my head. All three posts

    2. To be fair (and honest)
I would venture to say most folks that go have religion in their lives, and gambling is a sin in all I know of. So why did they make such a big deal? Cause they are gooks.
We all sin from time to time. Well I don't, but most do. Since I tell my self everyday to treat myself like it's my birthday, I am darn near purrrfect.

(play on one of Ro-lickin teeth-Bun

    3. I'm a lapsed Catholic and can tell you it's not a sin for Catholics to gamble. In fact our long time priest used to go with my parents to Lake Tahoe sometimes.

I'm sure there are some religions that frown on it, I just don't know a lot about other religions except LDS, FLDS and AUB (just since I've been coming here).

      Delete
    4. As a practicing Catholic I must disagree with you. I certainly am not wanting to start a religious debate (this is not the place for that) but gambling is actually not accepted by the Catholic Church and IS frowned upon. It isn't just about gambling but all the other activities that are normally associated with gambling; i.e. Being irresponsible with your money/smoking/drugs/excessive drinking/addiction/lack of modesty with those around you/ etc... I worked at a Catholic school for several years and we were not allowed to have 50/50 raffles because it is considered gambling and also "Turn Around" trips as fundraisers because of the gambling factor.

      Delete
    5. I should rephrase that to be..in the faiths I was surrounded by... gambling is a sin. We have a pro and con on the Catholic side and we will leave it at that. Thank you!

      Delete
    6. I will add that Bingo at church and spending a gluttony of money at a craps table are two very different things! (IMO)

ANY thing done in excess that harms, gambling, drinking, smoking, etc etc.... would be frowned upon where I came from. That doesn't mean no one did these things, its the excess part that comes into play in my mind that causes the problems.
Again, We will leave it at that..This could be a whole topic itself and not needed further. Thanks!

    7. A lot of churches/religions have doctrine that most members do not follow. An example for me is that I'm Methodist & I definitely had a few margaritas after work even though it's recommended that I don't drink. As a student of theology, as I watch the Browns they seem to fit the ala cart variety of FLDS meaning it appears that they pick and choose what doctrine to follow.

      Delete
    8. I was interested in Kody's comment that Las Vegas isn't about gambling - it's about entertainment and shows. Yeah, sure. All of those huge hotels and casinos were built on $100 tickets to see Donny and Marie.

Found this quote online: "Some argue that gambling is nothing more than entertainment, no more immoral than going to a movie or concert. People who attend movies or concerts expect only entertainment in return, however, not money. They are not tempted to keep spending until they 'break even.'"

I - a conservative Christian - have been known to play the occasional slot machine. I go in with $20, and I look at it as a video game. I tell myself how many times I'm going to spin the wheels. At the end of that time, I cash out and go home. Sometimes with a couple of dollars more, usually with less. Or I'll sit down at a poker machine and play until the $20 is gone, or until I rack up enough to get my $20 back and also pay for dinner.

IMO, the "sin" of gambling kicks in when a person risks more than they can afford to lose - rent money, food for the kids, etc.

We've had a commercial playing for the state lottery in which a couple is depicted as winning. They buy an airplane, and live the high life. I think they also should have a commercial showing people living in poverty who cash their welfare checks and then go buy lottery tickets. That's more the reality, sadly.

Wow. I can't believe I used the words "Kody" and "reality" in the same post. They have no relationship to each other.

  7. What strikes me about these "marriages" is the total lack of marital, emotional intimacy.

To me, most spouses have achieved a level of emotional intimacy that involves transparency, vulnerability, and security. Spouses are a team. They are each in each other's corner. Each spouse reassures the other and accepts the other. Sure, there are fights, but generally, there have been so many positive interactions that the negative interactions seem few and far between in comparison. Each spouse has dropped their "personas." They are not worried about making a favorable impression on their partner (like dating couples). They are comfortable with each other. Each has made the other feel safe with them.

Every Brown "marriage" seems more like a dating relationship. Insecurity runs rampant. The women are reluctant to voice their own thoughts and feelings for fear that Kody will judge them or think less of them. There doesn't seem to be a true partnership between Kody and any of his wives.

Kody doles out judgment liberally. He gets angry if any of his wives are hurting, vulnerable or jealous (eg, the way he has treated Christine). I cannot remember a single accepting word he has spoken to any of his wives. The most "supportive" comment I have seen him make is asking his wives how he can help them manage the "flaws" that he has identified in them.

While he does not hesitate to identify "flaws" in his wives, Kody does not turn his critical eye on himself. In fact, it appears he believes he can do no wrong. I cannot remember a single time he has said he was wrong about something. I cannot remember a single apology. I find that inconceivable, given that we have watched them for THREE years. What person has not admitted wrongdoing or apologized in three years? Even more, I cannot even think of a single time that he has made himself emotionally vulnerable in any way to any of his wives.

The wives scurry around trying to curry favor with Kody, even if it means losing their own voice. (Not sure about Janelle. My guess is that she is the same, especially since she is so conflict avoidant and doesn't even stand up to Meri for her kids. She keeps her emotional convos with Kody off TV. That is the only reason she appears less emotionally needy than the others)

Each interaction that a wife has with Kody involves secret motives - to manipulate, to portray (or maintain) a favorable impression to Kody, to impress Kody, to placate Kody, etc. Lots of unspoken agendas, instead of emotionally intimate marital communications where the spouses interact with transparency as a team to solve an issue together.

Precisely why we call the gals "Kodypendants"!

I just read this little "gem" of wisdom on a website called Narcissim Uncovered - about narcissists and their victims http://www.narcissismuncovered.com/narcissism/

      Really descriptive isn't it?

"At the same time, they need the same attention as a baby, and they like to be the center of attention. They may be angry if someone puts their integrity in doubt. They will also seek attention and confirmation, and will therefore have a tendency to a promiscuous life. Nothing is as reassuring as some will have sex with you. Living together with a person with these characteristics may be quite damaging over time."

I guess maybe why the women think they are not in a monogamist relationship is because they are SUPPOSED to also have a relationship with the other wives (not sexual obviously) but lesbihonest... these women don't.

I think things are really bad between Kody and Christine... Christine especially seems so unhappy and really very short and on edge with Kody. Did anyone catch her snark to Kody on the Q&A episode responding to Kody saying she was winning on all accounts (cooking/least strict mom) and she said: "Ok fine then! Why don't you ask who makes the worst food." I thought Kody was actually being nice to her and then she snapped at him... its just sad.

  8. finally seeing realitySeptember 9, 2013 at 2:59 PM

I thought it was a pretty nice looking casino, and lots of casinos have gift shops, ranging from upscale to souvenir merchandise. There are a lot of casinos that are off the strip that are very nice and usually have higher pay out rates. I am not defending the Brown's jewelry, as I think it is cheap and not at all classy. If anything I think they are lucky the casino wants to sell it, because the stuff I saw that was for sale looked a lot nicer than their junk. I think they were probably smart to hire the new company to produce their budget (gag) jewelry, as it looks like they are doing some marketing that the Browns have no smarts or ability to do. I doubt any business would talk to plygs about selling jewelry or that the Brown's would even know how to do this.

Re SW closet trinkets, and the constant complaints of how they need $$ and have all these buildings and loans to pay for -- SWs has begun to remind me of the old Jim Bakker, TV evangelists shows. Perhaps they should start offering vacation timeshares in Meri's McMansion?

      Funny you should say that.
Well, there is a similarity to the old Jim and Tammy Faye Baker (may her soul rest in peace) days...

Remember their first official sit-down Q&A last year when all of the Brown Babes had gotten the full makeup treatment?
      It was hysterical !!
All of them had Olympic-proportioned fake eyelashes and super black eyeliner.

Janelle especially was sporting a striking resemblance to Tammy Faye Baker. Janelle's ultra thick, ultra black, glossy eyelashes looked like she should have been moonlighting working the Strip.

Yes she needs to breast feed and recover but 16 months later kody is saying no. I actually thought Meri decided not to have Robyn carry the baby, but to consider IVF. I don't feel too bad for her-she takes more than she needs and lived off of Janelle's inheritance and income, while treating Janelle like garbage.

  14. Gina, the joolery designer lady said something that irks me. She basically said that you can't find all of the qualities that you want in one person, so it made sense that Kody had 4 wives for all of the qualities that he was seeking. But -- What about the women??! They get 1/4 of a "man" and if they are left lacking, well, then they look deep within themselves and this is the crap that makes them better?! Once again, if it's good for the goose (Kody) then too bad for anyone else! What a perfect set-up. He's always got at least one woman trying to gain his "favor" and he loves every second of it.

I was married (briefly. I lasted just under 3 years) to a narcissist. They suck the life out of their partners with their constant need for attention. Maybe that's the only way a marriage to a narcissist works: 4 women to take turns lavishing the attention on the attention seeker. That way they can maintain their sanity.

ME: TLC: He read the wrong script, this was the surrogacy one! Robyn would!

Silly Kody, he's got so much going on, he starts talking about it's Meri's body and she'd have to carry it, when the storyline was surrogacy, well really gestational carrior, with Robyn! bwahahaahahha #WeCatchThemAll

  16. Meri's not my favorite person, however if these episodes are scripted, couldn't the writers at least include some actual caring in the dialogue?
Meri" "Do you want to have another baby with me?"
    Kody coulda said:
"Meri, that has been my prayer since I first looked at Mariah.
You are my first love. It hurts me to see you hurting and questioning your worth,
because of this issue. Another baby couldn't make me love you more, just as not having another baby couldn't make me love you less."

Instead, we get a big sigh and it's all about him and his gut!

My gut is telling me that he had already told Robyn
what he was going to say to Meri...BEFORE he told Meri....
which is why Robyn wasn't Sobbyn---
she was so inwardly happy with the decision that would keep her cookie jar first in line!

Perhaps, in addition to getting their storylines from SWB, TLC could hire some of us to write the scripts!!! :)

    2. what I am so confused about is why is Meri putting so much worth into having a baby...lets be real she is a bit older, not a put down at all, but there is so much more to her than having a child or is that how this religion works? concentrate on Mariah and then what about being a "Sister wive" and doesn't that mean they all help each other, well there are a lot of other children that technically are "hers" also. I never see her with anyone except Sol. so no pity for her except for the way Koduche reacted, he really needs a new script I agree with the above post, show some love, caring support and validate her for how important she is to you I don't want to rant just cant stand the man

    3. I was not a fan of Meri before this show but was very sympathetic to her this week. She seems very lonely. Clearly she was going to tell Kody having another child was important enough to her to try again with the treatments. I'm sorry she asked him for his opinion because he gave her a very selfish response. What does he care?--he's probably planning another baby with Robyn. Meri--if you want that baby, do what your heart tells you and start the treatments!

    4. Hi you guys! I've just spent whole my day off reading the comments here! Thank you all for the belly-laughs! You've made a new fan for SWB.

Anon 6:48pm - I was wondering the same thing - why is Meri putting such worth into the baby thing at her age.

I searched on the google after reading your post, and discovered that in modern polygamy, sex with a wife past childbearing years is a no-no. Here's the link to where I read that: http://carriemiles.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/religious-basis-for-contemporary-mormon-polygamy.pdf. It's on page 31. It says sex is forbidden during pregnancy, lactation, and menses, as well as after menopause."

I think maybe Meri is trying desperately to save her power with Kody (and therefore with the other wives) by streeeeeeetching out her answer.

Because as long as she might still have a child, she gets to continue her relationship with Krody, unchanged, and continues being the queen bee amongst the other ladies.

      Do ya think...?

I don't get why they think that dragging out the yes/no to a baby answer is going to make people keep watching. SHE DOESN"T WANT ANOTHER BABY. If she wanted one, she would have gone to an infertility specialist years ago. I know because I wanted one and couldn't have a 2nd one so we got In Vitro quickly.

He is a "child hoarder" He is more interested in a number rather than really getting to know each of his kids. I can't help comparing them to Honey Boo Boo's family.....every member of that family really cares about each other and as a family shows true Christian spirit ( Let me remind you....in the heat of the of hot muggy Georgia nights every night in July the Thompson family is doing Christmas in July for needy kids) The Browns are so self adsorbed and self centered it is ridiculous to hear them speak of their religion. Makes me wonder what type of men they have been hanging around. Do they not see that he is no so great. Why does it take so many women to satisfy one man. Their new marketing partners ittitated me like hell. They just want to sell their crappy jewelry to line their own pockets. Their jewelry in this casino will not be a big seller. Casino patrons are not coming to the casino to buy junk. And if someone happens to hit a jackpot, they are not spending money on trinkets.

  22. I envision a "Shawshank Redemption" episode for next season. Jenelle's been keeping an second set of MSWC books, waiting for the day she slims down enough to fit in the tunnel hidden behind the Wham! poster in her walk-in-closet. The reason she is losing inches and not weight is she is dumping all the drywall dust at the gym after her workout. She takes off to Mexico and leaves Christine a cryptic message hidden in her faux brick exterior ("One of those stones has no God-given reason to be there"). Season ends with the Feds busting down the door to Cody's Lady MacBeth man-cave at Meri's (the wet bar hides the safe, don'tch know). Sobbin slips out the back, only to drive off into the sunset with her wealthy new plyg conquest (only after calling perpetual "shot-gun" and making the current wife sit in the back). The kids are left to roam Las Vegas Oliver Twist style, with Hunter as Fagin.

Ko-tex I'm ROTFLO. Deliciously snarky. Thanks for the laugh.

I'm already conjuring up the episode after that where Logan and Maddie will come across a kettleball strategically placed where they can find it, also left by Janelle. It has a secret compartment. In it will be a decoder ring and a note that instructs them to bring the ring to Christine so they can decipher the cryptic note left for her by Janelle. It's then they discover the hidden bunker under Janelle's home (she paid off Dan the builder and swore him to silence. He was sympathetic to her cause after watching Kodouche and Sobbyn do too much necking down at the construction site). In the bunker Christine finds an envelope with cash and reels of secret film footage taken by Janelle over many years which reveals once and for all that Kodouche isn't really who he says he is. (Dramatic music.... dum de dum dum ooooooooooooooooh) In fact we never really knew him at all... Stay tuned for the following episode after that when Christine rescues all of the children from the streets of Las Vegas along with two very hot Chippendale dancers and jets off to Mexico to reunite with Janelle. Can you guess what is on that film footage? You'll have to wait for the following episode. Do chime in fellow snarksters...

    7. When last we saw the Browns….
Sobbyn has left, taking nothing with her other than Prince Sol, heir apparent to planet VO5, and 7 pairs of silk thongs embroidered with the days of the week (Sunday, Koday, Tuesday, Koday, Thursday, Koday, Saturday) with matching long-sleeve thermals . Meri and Koduche linger in solitary awaiting trial. Koduche’s boyish good looks are the reason for his isolation. Meri, however, shanked a guard when ordered to report for kitchen duty with 3 other inmates. Some habits die hard. Meri fills her days writing to Meriah-annotated lists of things she needs to feel complete, and the date she needs them by; but mails them out after the date noted. Meriah desires all that Meri longs for, and damns the Post Office for their incompetence causing the delay .
All in all, Meri is happy. She has the cell to herself and has convinced herself that the special order commode installed for the previous obese inmate is actually a wet bar. As none of the other inmates in solitary have a cell so equipped, she is content. Koduche suffers as the lazar focus of his id can only turn inwards on himself. Radiation burns ensue from the blinding light of his narcissism. He is forced to drink Coppertone SPF 65 to survive, the guards coloring it green and slapping a LIV Well sticker on it to avoid suspicion. Koduche is pleased with the improved flavor.
Jenelle is eagerly awaiting the return of her children in a small casa just outside Guadalajara. The bright lights of the city call to her, but she is comforted by her chickens and their barbed wire pen. It reminds her of home. One day while furtively trying to thaw a pound of day-old frozen hamburger between her thighs she realizes it for what it is; a metaphor for her life. She vows never to subsist on someone else’s leftovers again. Tears of joy streaming down her face she releases the hens, wrings the rooster’s neck for a nice fricassee, and follows a moonlight path to the city. She is now teaching zumba lessons poolside with her lover Ramon.
Christine gathers the children and boards the plane. As they travel over the ocean a storm picks up, whipping our little travelers back and forth like a June bug tangled in Koduches’ hair as he cruises along in his modest, mid-priced, leased, convertible. Christine holds Jenelle’s tapes close to her and prays for anyway out. An island approaches and the plane is dashed to the sea like so many plans, dreams, and hopes that Christine has guiltily nurtured in her cheese covered bosom. Dawn breaks, and prayers are answered. Christine opens her eyes to find they are all back in Lehi, well almost all. Koduche, Meri, and Jenelle welcome her and the children. The house stands, and all was like it was before TLC, before Las Vegas, before Sobbyn……..except for the mysterious black hatch.

  24. I've often wondered, since Meri likes to sew, and Aspyn or Mykelti (can't remember which) wants to be a designer, why Meri doesn't have their logo or some other designs created for machine embroidery. Then buy an inexpensive embroidery machine - even a brother PE500 costing only a couple of hundred bucks would work. Then make embroidered aprons or t-shirts done by "family members" rather than screen printed crap. The kids could do it even, and get a percentage of the sale for pocket money. It's easy, quick (ten minutes or so per item, depending upon how complicated and how many colors), hand done so their rabid fans would love it, and sewing is something they profess to like to do. (was surprised there was no PJ fashion show this xmas, if this was something that allegedly Meri always has done). They could easily set up a family business. They could branch into kitchen towels, dreaded toaster covers (shark!) etc, etc. Would you buy a kitchen towel for ten bucks embroidered by Meri's own fair hand? :)

Re Meri turning the tables and asking Kody if he wanted a baby - for pete's sake, what nonsense is that? He's only been saying for years he wants one and has been waiting for her to decide, so suddenly it's that he doesn't want one? Do they think viewers (not fans) have no memory? I think she just didn't want to be the one to say no on TV. The whole crying with Robin was just Meri playing the victim again. All staged nonsense.

  28. For what it's worth, I have a little insight into Meri's situation (if it's true and not scripted). My husband and I had our first daughter via IVF. Unfortunately, we don't have another embroyo. If we want to have another kid, we'll have to go through another cycle. Not a problem at all... until my doctor said, you might get 4-5 embroyos this time. Now, I'm not Morman or FLDS....just boring old Baptist. But I believe life begins at conception (i promise you, i'm not trying to start a pro-life, pro-choice thing). I'm guessing they follow that belief as well. 4-5 embroyos means potentially 4-5 kids. And for her age, that's a hard nut to swallow. I'm much younger and have spent almost a year talking about it with my husband. And we still haven't figured out the right answer. Do IVF again and risk that situation or adopt.... I'm guessing the show is scripted, but if not, that might be why she struggles so much with deciding.

    1. In real life my own self at 31 could not produce more than 1 or two eggs that made it to the embies process.

If I were producing 4 or more at simple IUI cycles I would have been concerned. I believe that life begins at conception and storage wasn't an option. But most who follow book of mormon don't have the same life conception perspective.

      I was 7 weeks pregnant with....twins!

There's hope babe. Pray avout it if you are so inclined, and just bear down and go through what you have to. Good luck!!!

    4. I, for one, am glad that Kody FINALLY pulled the plug on that IVF/surrogacy storyline which had evidently been going on long before we even knew the Browns, and would probably have continued until Meri was well into her seventies. If she really wanted another child with her DNA she would have, at least tried in vitro YEARS ago. If Meri wants another child to raise as her own, she and Kody could legally adopt Robyn's next child. Or she could take a more active role in the lives of the other children who are already a part of the family.

  33. A few comments on last night's show:
    1) Did you see the looks Robyn, especially, and Kody gave after Janelle said she wouldn't be taking part in the jewelry business because she wants to continue with her real estate career and she doesn't need to have "fun" at work? Robyn gave the downturned-mouth hangdog look she's so good at and Kody rolled his eyes. I can't believe that that nonviable jewelry business is allowed to proceed and take up so much of their time and resources when it isn't working. It seems like Kody is now going along with it too because it's Robyn's baby (kind of like the nonhuman Sol) and no one can have an opposing viewpoint on it.

    2) Meri is the most passive-aggressive person on the planet!!! She hems and haws about having another baby and does so for months on end, whether for the cameras or not, then when Kody makes a definitive argument against having the baby (she did ask him afterall!), she whines and says she thinks she might like to discuss it more. Say what? By not acting on it, she basically said she didn't want to pursue it, and then when Kody verbalizes that sentiment, she now says she wants to keep thinking about it? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I think she just wanted Kody to have his say so she could take the opposite view and not make her look like (especially to Mariah) the bad guy who didn't want another kid. She's a piece of work. And I'm not one to pick on anyone for their size, but she has doubled in size since the first season (look at her in the intro picture). I have a feeling she has some strong emotional issues causing the weight gain. Christine is looking good and we all know how hard Janelle is trying and succeeding. Why is it that Meri seems to be going in the other direction? Kinda sad.

    1. Trying for as little snark as possible here...honest..

It's probably pretty hard to maintain and monitor portion control when you live in a five bedroom house w/great room, living room, huge kitchen, office, loft, 3 car garage etc. etc ....
And you eat alone every day, every meal.

Are all of Meri's greedy "have to have's" literally stuffing her now?

  34. Wasn't there an episode where Meri asks the Kreep if he wants more kids and he says "I am going to have more kids, the question is are YOU going to have any more?" It was something like that. I remember being outraged that he said such a thing to a woman struggling with infertility.

Anyone else remember that or am I just crazier than I thought?

  35. Was it a full moon when this episode was filmed? The nonsense was even more non-sensical than normal. Meri's honest (I thought anyway), for once, interview was sooo sad. My heart broke to hear how she worries about what value she may have in the family now. No one should have to worry about that.

Kody's delusions of grandeur and narcissism were off the charts. Does he really think their iconic joolry will bring hordes to the casino? Does he really think there are people all over who just wanted to take away from his masculinity (whatever it was he said when he was wearing the apron). What the hell? This guy is wackadoodle nuts.

They all talk about religion, but the theology this bunch ascribes to can be boiled down into a few ridiculous and trivial beliefs. Wearing immodest clothing is bad. Being a swaggering rooster is good. Gambling bad. Stuffing feelings good. Did anyone else notice that Kody had a hard time even getting the word "God" out of his mouth when talking to Meri?

I am still kind of stunned. Usually they can pull up on the controls a little before they crash and burn with revealing too much of their chaos. Not so this time.

  36. I think they or someone at TLC. Does actively read this blog. I think they know about the rampant Meri hate since she showed out so terribly over all the extras she felt she was entitled to last season. It's pretty obviously Meri does not want any more children... But in light of Robyn's offer was put on the spot. To make her appear like less of an azz for stringing this out for so long... Kody took the heat. We all know that Meri gets what she wants and she obviously does not want a baby.
Dear TLC... Thanks for all the extra Janelle footage this season... It has kept me hanging in there!

  37. I'm re-watching the "Kody designs jewelry" scene. He keeps saying that each wife is "Air" or "Earth", so I had to look it up. I thought it would be totally weird if each wife WERE a different elemental sign, so here goes:

    Meri is a Capricorn, Earth
    Janelle is a Taurus, Earth
    Christine is an Aries, Fire
    Robyn is a Libra, Air
Kody is also a Capricorn, Earth

They are missing Water, it's an important element that can bring all other elements together. They do have a whole lot of Earth!

So, they are NOT each a different element. The way he was talking, and since they have already stolen the Claddagh ring design I thought by him talking about Earth and Air he was on his way to steal the Pentacle from us Pagans next!

For those who don't know, the Pentacle represents Earth, Air, Fire and Water with each point, the top point is the Divine, or That Which is All. It can also represent North, South, East and West, and the top point being the Universe. It can also represent Man himself in his human form, each point being part of the whole that makes us human, each element making the physical and the Divine (or our brain/head) having control over the limbs.

I thought for a second that he was going to try to say he had his own Pentacle with a point for each wife and the top point being Kody, King of All and the ultimate Divine God. Good Grief!!

If these people would have a REAL PR person on their team, they would have debuted these four "designs" the night of this episode airing. What a ditzy-dip to debut these pieces LONG before they are talked about on the show. Again, dropping the ball on the PR front.

I am watching the episode...when the Big K mentions the wives getting jealous over his designs for each of them, he actually says 'they will get jealous over "a piece"(NOT followed by the word jewelry). Those women can go out and buy their own jewelry....just like many other women.
And weren't his 'designs' on their website a loooooong time ago? Why is the show just not showing him designing these 'pieces'? Bad timing...stupid way of promoting it.

  42. Rose (commenter) has noted this several times, but this whole polyg thing only seems to work as long as you're birthing babies. Once you're done -- like Meri -- you're useless and no longer a member of the club. The lifestyle is clever in its subtle abuse of women. Maybe Meri didn't want the polyg lifestyle and only agreed to it to hang on to Kodouche, thus her fantasy about having him to herself. Very weird what religion does to you mind.

  47. So...are we supposed to forget IVF was Kody's idea? Suddenly, he's against having a baby with Meri via IVF because it isn't "natural"?? If it offends him, why did he dangle it as an option and been pushing her ever since?

And Meri wants the baby..she was going to say go for it until King Douchebag suddenly has done an about face. Like we can't see what's really going on here...he just wants to keep knocking up Robyn. He clearly favors her and it's probably because of her working uterus.

Meri can be a huge bitch, but I feel badly for her. She must feel hurt and rejected by Kody. He can and will have more kids and has basically said he doesn't want to make any kind of effort to have a baby with Meri. Also, she's pouring her heart out to Robyn and it's obvious all she wants to do is cheer and have a party because she will continue to be the favorite for the time being.

I don't think it will be all that long before Douche is looking for yet another young, fresh wife. I mean, he said it himself...he can have as many kids as he wants! Jerk.

back to the elements: Kody's wives are "Earth, Wind, and Fire" (Meri/Janelle as Capricorn and Taurus, Robin/air of Libra, Christine/fiery Aries). Now THAT'S a gimmick.
It didn't take too many seasons of this reality show to get past the "hey, this looks neat" idea to the real bare bones of polygamy; FLDS, AUB, or 'independent'. Each faction favors men and is unfair to the women involved. What are these women really gonna do? They've got their houses, hopefully their lives will settle down and they can raise their children with some normalcy. At least they're open to the kids NOT being polygamists, and I'm pretty sure any of these parents will accept any of these kids whether or not they remain in the church (although who knows to what extent). They are all going to stick it out, since compared to many of the terrible stories of polygamy we've heard, they don't have it so bad and they seem to be willing to tolerate it.
Oh yeah, Robin, I think you mean to tell Kody that they're making him out to be a chauvinist pig, NOT a misogynist one. Wink.

  50. I finally finished watching the episode.

I felt sorry for Meri. And I dislike Kody even more. And I thought that Robyn's face read, "I need to run over to my house. I bet Kody's waiting to impregnate me RIGHT NOW!!!"

That is NOT how a man treats someone he loves. "No, I don't want a baby unless it happens naturally (which is hasn't in 18 years). See ya."

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't think it helps that they label the children based on which Mom gave birth. I thought at the beginning of the whole series they would say "our" children, not _____'s children. If they claimed all of them as "ours", Meri would probably feel better and it would be less of a competition. Robyn may be younger, and more capable of having more kids, but the footage they show of her parenting makes her look frazzled all the time.

We all know Kody is an arrogant ass, but Robyn and Christine are just as bad when it comes to us immodest monogamists. When Meri says that the lifestyle makes them better, I think she really is saying "better than you people." It should be interesting next week. Funny how such a sense of being "spiritual elite" can coexist with the deep insecurity of always having o compete for your husbands attention.

If we look back at the old housr in utah ( pre sobbyn) she seamed more comfortable having only one kid most likely because all the kids came and went from all parts of the house. Also side noye ib the hawaiian culture if a family member can't have kids but another one is very fertile the firtile one gives the other one a baby to care for as her own yet they teach the child who gave birth to them and that they are lucky to have two moms. This was always done out pure love for family. Maybe if they all love eachother as real sisters and not as compatition they would be a better family unit. I live in A New England area where there are a variety of little 'hippie cool jewelry' stores and no sterling silver pieces are priced anywhere near that high. It's got to be being played for the story line and yes, I think, a write off of some sort. Janelle is smart not to play this foolish game.

I ask because looking at them all sitting on the couch, I think Janelle is getting to be close to the same weight they were. My husband watched the show last night, and said why are they only focusing on Janelle and her weight loss, she looks similiar to the other two wives on the couch.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Way back at the start of season 3, Meri was 214 and Christine was 222. Meri is definitely larger now than she was then. So yes, I'd say that, should Janelle continue to lose, Janelle will soon be smaller than everyone but Robyn. And that would rock.

      Delete
  56. I think they are focusing on Janelle because she is the one actively trying to make a change. Both Christine and Meri's weight were between 210 and 220 when they all had their weigh in on camera but Meri does look much bigger now. In the preseason show interview (I can't remember the name of the show they did their interview on) Janelle actually did look much smaller than Meri or Christine which I love. She is working hard and she should be recognized for it. And focusing on her trying to improve her life and teach her kids to be more healthy is one of the only positives on the show right now. I can't stand Robin and her holier than thou attitude. Her and Meri deserve each other. I like Christine but I wish she would be more assertive and actually make a life for herself so she will never have to depend on Kodouche to take care of her as he obviously can't. Does anyone remember in the first season when they were talking about money and Kodi's and Janelle's money went into a "joint account" to support the entire family, but Meri (who was working full time as a youth counselor) kept her money separately. That says it all folks. Janelle was the workhorse, Christine did all the childcare and Meri did not contribute to the family. No wonder she hand picked Robin, another wife that doesn't work and has the same expectations as Meri, entitlement. This show is a like passing a bad wreck on the highway. You know you shouldn't watch, but you can't help yourself. I just miss the Brown's of the first season. They were a mess, but there seemed to be so much more emotional involvement. Now they are just trying to keep their paycheck coming in and doing a very poor job of it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. "You know you shouldn't watch, but you can't help yourself"; well said. I tried to NOT watch, but the best I could do was to not watch the 9pm showing, put the kiddies to bed, and catch the repeat of the new episode at 11 or 12. I now accept the fact that I cannot turn away.
A comment worth a re-mention: Robin, even if it were just for the camera, could have put a hand on Meri's shoulder, given a little hug, or said some comforting words that acknowledged Meri's emotional pain by validating her feelings during the couch talk. But NOTHING. Not even for the camera. This is not helping viewers to like you,Robin; in fact many viewers have begun to verbalize sympathy for Meri and understand her as a product of her upbringing and present situation (as are we all).
And the daggers from Robin and Kody over Janelle's pulling away from the 'cottage' industry--also not playing well. I am wondering if the Browns are purposely behaving poorly to encourage the ratings (like a kid doing 'negative' things for attention) or do they accept the way they are being portrayed? A little more forethought on their part would put polygamy in a better light and be a healthier way for their children to have their parents perceived. Is this just really bad scripting?
Ladies, no matter what has been said about any one of you on this post, it is the character you are presenting on your show that we are really talking about. We don't really know you personally. We do have the advantage of being far enough away from the forest to see the trees and feel compelled to give you all a heads up. We are rooting for all of you (yes, even Robin I bet) and your children. We are able to clearly see the disadvantages of the polygamist "lifestyle" which is mostly completely RELIGIOUS based and not as much of a 'choice' you make it out to be in the glaring light of reality tv.
Janelle, we are rooting for you. Seriously, like we all would love to see you get to your ideal weight and have and do anything else you might like. Yeah, and your kids come across as SMART and TOGETHER. You have every right to be proud of your children.
Robin, it doesn't put you in a good light to be crying over your purity in one episode and gritting your teeth about not wanting to be made a victim in another. You can do better.

  58. I have been watching Sister Wives since the beginning and have a few observations/comments/ and mostly ramblings I would like to share:

First of all I live in a large house with two kids and a husband. not as large as the Brown's of course but more "mortal sized". I do on average two loads of laundry a day and am constantly cleaning up everyone's messes. It never seems like they do any of this yet their houses always look great. I know watching someone clean isn't necessarily good TV but at least it would offer a connection seeing as I can't seem to keep up and my heard is 1/3 the size of most of theirs. Do they have cleaning ladies too??

I would love to do a Trading Spouxes with Cristine. I could send my husband there to show her what a present and attentive husband who loves kids is all about. Kody can come here as his first introduction to reality. I guarantee that after a week with me there will be no more "Should Kody cut his hair" discussions as the last few stragglers he has left will fall out on their own.

I watch the show becauss I am interested in Christine and Janelle. I really think they are sweet good people. The other two I could care less about. Too fake. Just imagine how they grew up though. They were immersed in this world. This is all "normal" to them. They feel lucky they landed Kody because it could have been so much worse(Could you even imagine). I do not think they want our pity they want us to accept them how they are. The same with other religions. If you are brought up Jewish and someone says that is wrong you should be a Christian you probably would dismiss the thought. Same with them. This is what they know and are comfortable with. They do not see it as demeaning. The rest of us who have not lived in that world see how much better it can be for them and that's why it is so frustrating. Let me be clear, although I do not understand Polygamy I fully accept it. If it makes you happy and doesn't hurt others go for it. What I do not accept is the way Kody treats his crew.

I am still keeping up hope that there is a spinoff show where Janelle and Christine each run off with a member of the SW crew and get paid gobs of money to film their reality as people and not objects, leaving Kody, Meri and Robyn behind to figure out what went wrong.

  59. I think Kody said 'no' to Meri because he realizes how much those McMansions are costing and how SWC is probably costing them money. Plus you know she wants it all the more since he said 'no'. How much more of the finite pool of familial resources will Meri take? She already hit everyone else up so she could get extras done on her house. I feel bad for her, but she is just so self absorbed. Kody also probably realizes that they have a choice. They can start opening up more and stop spending 10 minutes of each show going over their flight from Utah and adding silly stuff like burning a bag, time capsules and making caramels. Or, public interest will dry up and their biggest cash cow (the show) will be no more. Since the wives aren't going to want to open up more, their time for a full season show (instead of specials) is waning. They all don't see that they traded their privacy for McMansions that have a view of the lights of Las Vegas. Regarding SWC, they have a huge inventory of stuff that isn't selling, but they already paid for the raw materials and getting it made up. Even with their fans, there is not a big enough market. They should be thanking Janelle. She is the one that abandoned her prospering career in Utah. Now she reinvented herself and will help keep Robin in Pampers and joolry supplies. Aside: I KNEW Robin was going to sit her behind in the front seat with Kody when they went to the casino. She is feeling every bit the favorite princess. I like that Janelle is finally getting some positive affirmation from Kody. Wish Christine would too. I may not agree with Christine on plyg matters, but she seems so loving and has a good heart. You can tell that she is a wonderful mom. I tugs at my heart seeing Kody hurt her feelings in every episode.

1.) They are definitely reading this blog and now the show is all kids, kids, kids, and more kids (little ones; not the adult ones who could care less now!)
2.) Janelle - I'm SO SORRY, but I just can't get past your cold sores. OUCH.
3.) GUILT - holy cow did you score some free advertising!!!
4.) Gina the joolllllery "designer" - you seriously ARE an idiot.
5.) Kodster - those crappy rings you designed ARE NOT GOING TO SELL! Design them for your wives and stick to that, only. Quit being such a loser and trying to pawn them off as "gifts". You basically referred to your wives as a "dog", an "airhead" and the other two that I can't even remember they were SO dum.
6.) Meri - you're at the point NOW that you would look into your options? Shouldn't you have done that like YEARS AGO?
7.) Sobbyn - your faces are getting weirder... and weirder with each episode.
8.) Christine - you are letting your kids live and play in that dirt backyard? That's kinda gross!

In Janelle's mind, she wants money from a steady income.

    2. Respectfully......It's not a legitimate effort to financially support a family of 17. Pocket money at best for a group that size.

Cody, Meri and Janelle could get real jobs. Christine and Robin would take care of Janelle's kids and the Brown family meals as their contribution. Eventually they'll all have to work. A TV show pays well now but will eventually dry up.

  62. So, I know I'm a little late to the game, but I just want to say that I think the "baby convo" scene w/ Kody and Meri was as fake and scripted as they come, and this is why... Meri says that she is ready to "go to the doctor" and have a baby. Umm...she's already been to the doctor. We've seen her go on film go to at least two fertility specialists, and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head. So, that line was fake, she's already been to the doctor, and I think neither she NOR Kody want her to go through IVF or surrogacy to have another baby. Fake, scripted drama.... Do they think we are total idiots and just won't remember the episodes where she sent to the doctor?? That we won't remember the doctor asking if they are able to have intercourse regularly, and they giggle like idiots and say, "That's not the problem." That we're just going to believe that poor little Meri is finally ready to go to the doctor for the first time and is show down by Kody? Ummm...yeah, right. Fake, fake, fake.

    1. Sorry for the typos..."shot" down, not "show" down.

  64. So, first time posting on the blog! I've been reading it for awhile now and I can't tell you have many times I've been caught by husband giggling out loud...he thinks I'm going crazy lol.

Anyway, I nearly leapt out of my seat while watching Sunday's episode and was laughing SO HARD...Sobyn, Sobyn, Sobyn...what the hell was that!? She would not stop licking her teeth, or whatever she was trying to do. I don't understand how you forget there's a camera on your face BECAUSE YOU ARE ON NATIONAL TELEVISION AND PEOPLE ARE CRITIQUING YOU! One of the things I love the most about watching this show is watching her face when someone else is talking during the couch interviews. She looks so...mentally challenged.
Also, I recently started watching the show over again from Season 1 and I cannot believe how haggard and decrepit she looks...what happened?!

One last thing...I have lost a lot of respect for Meri over the last 2 seasons, but my heart broke for her in this episode. Is it just me, or did Kody COMPLETELY railroad her. This whole storyline was supposed to be about Meri's decision and SOMEHOW (I know how), it turned into Kody's decision. He never bothered to ask her what she wanted. And she just sat there! I think a lot of her beotch-iness comes from a HUGE problem with insecurity...I mean, I would be insecure as an infertile woman living in a culture that values fertility in a woman above anything else.

  65. ok, was it just me (and i'm not a country fan) but did Kody seriously quote a Shania Twain song in response to crushing Meri's choice to have another baby? "If she changes her mind, a million times, i like it like that?????" I think I threw up my wine a little.

    p.s.
thanks for creating this blog. it makes me able to enjoy the show and still like myself.

  66. the trash talk tv site has a picture of the burning bag in their recap with the caption:

"And then the wind changed, and all four houses burned down"

That alone made it worth watching this lame episode -- had to share.

  67. I finally had a chance to watch this episode off of my DVR, and I have to say that I felt bad for Meri. The entire conversation was just awkward sounding, like she couldn't even honestly say how she was feeling. She didn't want to say anything until she had his opinion and then she tried to hem and haw about it, but only an idiot wouldn't see that she was trying to say she wanted to try for the baby. A couple that has been together that long, should be able to have an open and honest dialogue! She just looked broken when she discussed the scene on her own. I just can't imagine living my life always feeling like my own wants and needs weren't important. She even tried to persuade him in such a weak way, offering to get some tests done. I don't know. It just felt so terribly pathetic. The scene with Meri and Robyn discussing her decision was just so weird. Robyn's reaction was just so.....I don't know. Flat? I mean I expected some real emotion if the way she explains her relationship with Meri is an accurate depiction. It was just heartbreaking to me. Maybe I just did exactly what the editors wanted me to do, and that was to make me feel different toward Meri.

This is my first time posting here! I love the blog and I hope that this isn't off topic. I'm going back to read through all the comments now!

  68. CODY did the right thing saying NO to Meri about IVF or using Robin as a surrogate. Cody and Meri KNOW it most likely wouldn't work considering her LONG history of infertility. She just wants to drag out the pitiful drama and the attention.

Now, in her 40's, she is entering another phase of life as all women do. Move on gracefully, Meri, and STOP burdening your daughter with your unhappy self indulgent feelings.

  69. I'm still new to this and playing catch up. Why did Janelle divorce Meri's brother and how did she end up with Kody? Wouldn't Meri have to ok this?
Also, a quick comment on the Catholic issue with gambling. As a Catholic , I have been in many different parishes and each one always had a casino night to raise money. So, you can gamble if the money goes to the church. Nah, that's not being hypocritical.
Yes, I felt something for Meri but then I realized that she enjoys a pity party and likes being a martyr. "Poor me, I'm the last one to get in my house". I'm sick of the drama that she and her daughter like to create. For a Christian family, they don't seem to practice what they preach.

    1. Janelle was married to Meri's brother Adam Barber for a short time. He is not in the AUB and at the time Janelle was LDS.

Even they divorced, Janelle and Meri were the best of friends, met Kody, and married.
yes Meri was on board for this!

Before Janelle married Kody, her mom went up to Montana where they were living to meet the family. Janelle's mom married Kody's dad BEFORE Janelle wed Kody

      The plot did thicken!

I will repeat we will not post any comments anymore on the gambling issue//any more posts on this will not be published.
