Discussion Area 3 for S05E05 and S05E06 "Mourning the Loss" and "Confronting Failure"

The way Kody speaks amuses me.
Mona told us the most important thing was for us to keep our credit scores up."
I guess as a businessman and total buffoon, he needed to be told.

"Rick helped us validate the decision we made."
Yes, Farmer Kody, it took a 5 hr trip and a Vet on camera to help you with that.

Meri, it is about the dog, not how you look. Why, I ask, would you even be thinking this way?
As always, Tear fest.

What a shock! 28 orders the first day. Someone should sync up what they twitter and what actually happens for them. They need those large houses to wander around and get their stories straight.

Anyone notice when Kody was digging him struggling for tears - then turned the discussion to him and the house?  House #5?

  1. This show is a mess.
    They need new writers.
Smacking too much together. Suddenly, it is all about the parents and, UGH, their feelings. remember that old song "Feelings" well it is now stuck in my head, and I even say out loud, cue the tears! Cue what they feel! Forget just simply showing what is going on!
    I see no religion here.
I see nothing but a group that doesn't want jobs.
The BEST PART of the whole show is coming here. I would venture to say, without the blog, they would have already been in the dust. Hurry up and get in those houses! The show is gone any day, hopefully replaced by the Dargers. Meri, I sure bet Kody wishes you were not the one he was married to. You suck more emotional energy out of that man than any of them.

    2. Yes, the BEST part of the show is this blog! I am always amazed by Kody's narcissistic rantings. He deserves Robyn--she is as dumb as a sack of potatoes. Meri needs meds. Janelle and Christine deserve better--get UHauls, not McMansions and flee from Kody!

  2. It seems obvious to me Meri used drakes health as another chance at stealing away as much private time with her moronic hubby as possible. She is very manipulative and selfish, using any means possible to garner his attention and time.

  3. If they really wanted to live as a family, one of those big houses would have a kitchen and dining area designed to produce and serve meals for 25. They should be dining together at least on Sundays and hopefully a few other dinners each week.

    1. That is a good idea. Since they are still living separately, they should definitely do that in my opinion.

    2. I've wondered if they have an 'entire family meal' day/time of the week too and if just Kody hangs out only with the kids a certain afternoon or night of the week. From the scenes we see, it looks like they are mostly separate families.

  5. Correct! curling iron Grody does seem to want to back up everything by addressing another.
he grew up on a farm. Yet, befuddeled when talking to Meri about putting a dog down. Sorry, but Joe Darger, I believe, would have used this situation to address the children about what was going on with the dog in an intelligent and educational way. hope Meri doesn't get incontinent in her old age, she might go for a trip.
Meri, even us over here remember how you used trips to get Kody to yourself. was the cost of gas, time away fromthe other children really pratical?

    1. I am just watching the episode on fast pass and had to come here to comment. I am OUTRAGED they put that dog down as it was incontinent. If you ask me Meri did not give a shit except for her precious carpets. Pet's get old, and we as their care takers TAKE CARE OF THEM. Sorry, a little sensitive as my 13 year old recently put down when he developed inoperable CANCER, not INCONTENENCE! Crimey.. Mad as a hatter I am..

      Delete
    2. So am I - I know how hard it is to put your pet down - You only do it so that the doen't suffer - not for ratings

      Delete
    3. My 13 year old cat throws up most days (cancer) and I happily do the laundry and am doing everything to keep her as long as I can. They have no clue about the fact that a pet is a member of the family. Meri best watch out.

    4. I am so sorry for all of your loses for I have also suffered loss to my canine family members. When the DVM checked their dog, the doctor did say he had severe hips, and he was certainly in pain. It's called hip dysplaysia. I have my Newfy on Rymadel but it's very expensive, and I gather they used any extra money on options to their so called mansions.

I feel they should have handled their pet's desmise in a loving, caring way and not "Say goodbye because he's not coming back."

    5. Yes, a pet is a member of the family, but it's cruel to keep an old, terminally ill animal alive that gets sick on a daily basis for your own selfish reasons.

    2. um maybe I have no morals, but that model wasn't naked. She was wearing a bra and then a skirt or something from the waist down. That's scantily clad, but not naked...I bet they see women wearing far less clothing on the streets in Las Vegas, and not hookers either, just regular people with short-shorts and bra tops.

      Delete
    3. sounds like by Robyn's standards, the model was naked. or at the very least she was disrobe-ses-ing and Kody is a gentleman and leaves the room when a woman "disrobes-ses." lol (i'm sure that happens often with him, too. *snark* )

He was a douche to even be there and make it about himself anyway. Kody's no gentleman, Robyn - He's a douche!! in more ways than one.

Also yes never saw the dog in the my life .

Looked at the site...won't buy that crap

      Delete
    2. I agree.I find it interesting that Kody and his "wives" cite their religion/faith for their lifestyle; however, I see very little Godly morals and values in this family. I find it interesting that Kody always drop the "I felt the call to have more than one wife" line (whatever the hake that means) yet he doesn't feel the call to be the leader of his family. For a man that has 4 wives and a large amount of children, he is very conflict avoidant. He doesn't serve as a mediator between the adult women and he delegates the responsibility of disciplining the children solely to their mothers. From the couch sessions, whenever there is a discussion about the children, it is very obvious that he is out of touch with what is going in the lives of his family. Say what you want about the Darger family or even the Duggars but atleast it is very obvious that their priorities are their faith and family.

    1. I was happy that Christine passed her exam as well, however, I was disappointed that her "husband" and "sisterwives" seem to have very little faith in her. Maybe if they would have stepped up to offer assistance with watching her kids, preparing meals and helping to clean and maintain her house, she would have had more time to study. In the end, she passed anyway, but I thought it was odd that she struggled just to get in a few minutes to study, when she has this supposed built in support system of sisterwives.

      Delete
    2. It would have been nice to see a little more celebration for Christine since they knew how important this was to her. Maybe, gasp, a hug from her sister wives or her "HUSBAND"! Meri can hardly muster up a smile for her. Then there's the old Kodster sitting on his lazy butt while Christine and a couple of her kids unload the van. Could he not run over there and praise her for hard work to prepare for her test and help out? So sad! I'm sure if it were Robyn, he would have planted himself in a parking spot to save it for her.

      Delete
    3. He would have gone with her. Although she is such a dog, she could stab hawks with her nose, she is the closest, (pathetic) thing Kody has to having a "trophy wife". They are all so so pitiful. Can't we have a reality show on the dog, better money spent.
Sure Kody already has a new victim staked out.

  16. The real family business should be those 17 kids. Christine's conference table should be for the twice-weekly review of progress or lack there-of for each child and plans to make sure each child succeeds. Mothers should be mothers and a Father of 17 better be the best cheerleader his children should ever have.

  17. Drake "THE DOG" You were deffinately the smartest adult in that Family. Hell, if you told them to sit, they'd have to argue over who's week it was to sit next to Kody. You also could've taught them a lot about loyalty & friendship! RIP..Little Buddy!
Kody wanted to have all the kids tell the dog goodbye, after all..DRAKE WAS KIND OF LIKE
FAMILY..according to Kody. And all the kids loved him soooo much!! Plus he thought..what if Two or Three weeks go bye and a couple of the
kids ask.. Hey, where's Drake? "TWO OR THREE WEEKS!!.. Really? That's the kind of love you have for your neighbors dog..not your own! Then again, maybe that's just how it works when all your Moms' are your neighbors too. ..IDK!

As far as Mykelti looking unhappy in front of the designer. I'd be miserable too if my father acted anything like Kody! He's unbelievable, he damn near shoved Christina into the wall, and pushed
Mykelti across the room so he could shake the designers hand first, and run his mouth..LIKE ALWAYS! (yes, I exaggerated that last part, but not by much..lol) ..Blaaah, I'm Kody, "THE DAD" my wife Christina, and Mykelti.. (he NEVER stops at hello) "WE'RE PLYGS!" .."And I have THREE more wives at home, blaaah, blaaah...and 50 kids, blaaah, blaaah, blaaah..And FOUR NEW HOUSES, blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! (PUKE)...Hell, I was totally imbarrased for Mykelti!

And I would almost guarantee.. If Christine, Mykelti & of course..the camera crew, were all gone when that model was changing. "He wouldn't have ran off the way he did". And because Kody's such a GENTELMAN, he'd probably even ask if she needed his help. ..Ain't that right Robin?

Speaking of Robin.. My Sister Wives Closet? ..What was she smokin' when she came up with this bright idea? I just don't get it?? Who is gonna wanna buy this stuff? I don't find the jewelry pretty,, the designs look cheap to me and the prices are way too high! Robin and I think Mari..??? said; people have to realize it's "sterling silver" and we need this money, we're trying to buy not one, but FOUR new homes. ..Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwe, I just wish they could see me playing the worlds smallest violin..i'm playing..My Heart Pumps Purple Piss For You!" Hearing her say that, only made me want it that much less. Looks like they better find a lot of their own kind because nobody else is gonna wanna wear it. I know I'd be imbarrased as hell if I wore one if their necklaces & somebody ask me if I was a Sister Wife. My answer.."WHEN PLYGS GROW WINGS AND FLY!!"

One more thing,.then I'll shut up! We all know they would barely be able to afford building one of these McMansions without all this $$$ their making from TLC. "What do they think their gonna do with FOUR of these huge mortgages when TLC says.. "SUPRISE!..YOUR CANCELLED??" and after all the gripping & crying over extra rooms, sliding doors, and wetbars! I'd LOVE to be a fly on the wall, just to see how they act when the $$$'s all
gone! ..Hell, I'd never miss that show! :)

That is why they are always praising him for the tiniest shows of decency. They would be more honest if they said that their lifestyle was not more convenient and definitely not happier, but is just what they believe they have to do to get to the best part of heaven.

  18. They need to build a "Duggar Style" family house, industrial type kitchen, each mother her own suite and then divide the kids up as well to share bedrooms - do it by age. Have a massive laundry room and get the kids to help with their laundry. They would save more money combining resources. If they truly believe they are a family then then they need to live as a family!

    2. I agree 100%!!! So along with the 4 mortgages, they will need appliances, furniture, etc for each of these homes....combined resources is truly the way to go, but these idiots think they are celebs and require a massive McMansion each, with all the fixins...those fixins add up quickly....

      Delete
    3. Yes - really great idea, The Duggers area a great example of how to make a large family function with the day-to-day of laundry and meals etc. Then the kids could all be together :)

  19. I was also wondering, why is it Kody only seems to hold Soloman? I never see him take the time to hold Truly. Not even after she was born. Of, course he was awfully busy hanging all over Robin. Guess he's still all about Robin. Atleast until wife #5 comes along anyway. Maybe he could ask Mykelti if she'll hook Daddy up with that model. ..lol

    1. Maybe because Sol is male?

      Delete
    2. You know, this is an interesting point. Because if lots of people embrace polygamy as it is practiced on this show, that equation adds up to WAY too many males. Which is why in some of the abusive sects of polygamy, they kick out the boys as they become "of age." No matter how many children "god gives" you, you still end up with far too many men. SO what's next, after kicking out the boys? Selective infanticide by gender?

I am not a fan of the Brown's and felt the shows were boring and the part about the dog Drake totally expoloitive. Having relatives in LV we have resently learned that investors are snapping up the foreclosed houses very quickly and they feel that the market is about to change rapidly. If Christine and Janelle are willing to work they could posibibly make some money, and I say if they are willing to work, it is certainly not easy money like the Brown's seem to search after. It will be interesting to see what might happen if these two do start earning some money, as we know their jewelry and green coolaid efforts have been a bust. Just a thought. It could be interesting.

    3. ah, details, details. Just like every other business they get involved in - no due diligence or personal research needed. Started off on the wrong foot right off the bat cause she's just not able to shut up - even for her own benefit. She thought she was an expert cause her parents were plygs and she said they had a lifelong honeymoon marriage. A pure out and out lie as they were already divorced when she bragged about that.

  22. the end is near...they will never be in the houses as owners ..when one show is somewhat tragic with to loss of a pet and another coming with a road trip..these are signs...running out of stuff...nothing short of a 5th wife..girlfriend...meri is the only legal wife..would put some interest back in the show to follow what happens. i have said this before the best show would be an "actuality" of what happens to this family when the cameras gone for good..hope the children do well after the show is over.

  23. I also thought Kody was going to shoot the dog when he said he was a "farm boy" LOL.

The vet was shown doing either the Ortolani maneuver or Barden's maneuver with the dog's back legs that is a test for hip displasia or a torn tendon. With the extreme obesity of that dog, and its age, I am sure it had bad hips/knees and a lot of scar tissue. Solutions = expensive (~$5000 each side) hip surgery (which involves sawing off the bone and resetting it backwards, so it is usually not the best idea for older dogs) or cheap hip surgery (~$1000 ea side) which involves replacing a tendon and does not have the best success rate with older dogs anyway...mine was one of them. After a looong recovery period with lots of extra care, my dog's surgery was as successful as it could have been, but she's still not back to 100%...or even 80%...a year and a half later. She sometimes falls on the stairs and does not really trust/like ramps, either. There are only so many hip biscuits and anti-inflammatories I can give my dog until she is not going to be able to get around on her own. But hell, at least I did give it a try for her.
If these grifters can afford FOUR brand-new McMansions, they surely could pay a thousand or two to a vet in Vegas. Unless of course they were not willing to. Might hurt their "credit." Or...the preliminary bloodwork may have ruled out surgery completely already.

BUT THEY STILL SHOULD NOT HAVE KILLED THE DOG ON TV FOR GOODNESS SAKE.

    1. I would have tried alternative therapies as well. What about laser therapy or acupuncture? Of course, I would have done that before the dog got to that point, and fed it higher quality food and not allowed it to become overweight. But you know. 12 is not EXTREMELY old.

    2. I really felt it was a case of "OK, what will we do this week? Oh, I know! Your dog is pretty old, let's do an episode of getting rid of the dog. Y'know, the kids crying, Kody digging a grave....Yeah! What a great idea!"

  24. I think what we all forget is that the Brown Clowns are all uneducated and backward people. They have a limited exposure to people outside of their cult and they are limited to any worldview other than their own. While they try to come off as being tolerant of others, their actions speak so much more loudly than their words. How can they say on the one hand that they value family while on the other there are four single women raising their children with very limited support from the baby daddy? Also, they want us to believe they are all hip to marriage equality but we know that their tolerance is self-serving: how can they drum up support of their polyg lifestyle if they are against marriage equality for same sex couples? Likewise they want us to believe that being a sisterwife makes the women betgter--better in what way? We don't see women who have grown. What we see are women who are manipulative, back stabbing, snarky, and insecure. They want us to believe that they are modest but every change Robyn gets, she hurls double entendres about Kody's manly traits and she doesn't even wait for the audience to get it before she covers her mouth and smiles or laughs, wanting us in on her little sexual humor. They say they have bonus kids but that is far from the truth because none of the wives support each other, especially relative to child care. They are such liars. I cannot wait until they are cancelled.

  28. I am so over the same crap/different episode nonsense. The McMansions: it's like The Emperor's New Clothes already. Somebody (and preferably on camera) needs to say to these people YOU'RE CRAZY!! NOT GONNA HAPPEN!! And if for some reason they do get into those homes they will not be able to stay there. YOU CAN'T AFFORD THIS!! I have seen endless numbers of posts (including mine) discussing these homes as if it's a real possibility. We have so bought into this fantasy. This week did it for me with the french door conversation. This has GOT to be all scripted. Meri cannot really be this entitled and selfish, those words don't even convey the level of self absorption.

The dog: How does TLC justify airing the killing and burial of a family pet on camera without a warning message? If this is the only new storyline to make the cut, I am disgusted.

Mykelti and the designer visit: Could have been a nice change til it had to be all about Kodouche not ogling the model. And of course that opened the door for Kodouches ambassadress of all things bedroom related to lecture us on how superior he is. *Vomit*

Christine: This could have shown all of us how the family pulled together to support and help one of the wives do somthing that could potentially bring them some income. Instead it was proof that they dont care. Not about each other, not about family, not about getting some solid income nothing, nada. Just a bunch of adults acting like high schoolers talking about how she would probably fail, yeah. And when Christine calls the mout, the Wicked WItch of the Plygs says oh no, Christine's got it all wrong. *double vomit*

And that leads to the next fantasy, MSWC: This of course gets all the support in the world. Because? Because it's Sobbyn's little project? Because they actually don't have to study anything or actually do any work? Take your pick.

Each week makes me more angry and more sick of these lunatics.

    (sorry for the rant) :-)

Maybe this is the end, they move into the homes, show everything being all great and wonderful, and end the series that way. The houses have been such a big focus for so long, it wouldn't surprise me.

  32. Even though I think Meri is meaner than a snake, I am going to have to defend her preference for French doors because in desert areas like LV, the dust is terrible and sliding doors get so much sand etc. in the tracks so French doors are easier to keep clean. Also, I want Christine and Janelle to DEMAND that Robyn watch their kids so they can get their real estate careers started.

    2. Hi Cynical Jinx: I wouldn't be surprised if the Short Creekers were engaged in statutory rape and incest at that time, but the police and/or media in the 1950s didn't publicize those problems, since society was tight-lipped on those issues at that time. We know that Joseph Smith liked 'em young, Warren Jeffs does too; I wouldn't be surprised if the FLDS men in the intervening years were of that proclivity. Unfortunately, that lack of disclosure caused the public to be more sympathetic to the Creekers.

  35. I just finished Susan Ray (LeBaron) Schmidt's book, "Favorite Wife: Escape from Polygamy". The more I watch SW, read books like "Under the Banner of Heaven", etc. the more I am convinced that Polygamy is NOT, in fact, intended to bond the wives together into one big happy... The Dargers are maybe one of the FEW plyg families that actually live together. In "Favorite Wife", maybe 2 of the wives lived together while arrangements were being made for one of the to get their own house. Half of the wives lived in different settlements, heck, they lived in different countries from each other. I don't know who they are trying to fool. The Polygamist lifestyle is ALL about the man. This lifestyle would imply that God values his male children over his female ones, and if that were the case, the animals would have filed onto the ark 1x4 instead of 2x2. Shame on Emma Smith for not nipping this in the bud way back when!

It is interesting that the builder was delinquent on paying the taxes for the property. I am interested to see what the property taxes are going to be for the Brown's.

How did these people pull this off?

    8. Maybe we are not seeing Kody and Meri's because the deed would be listed in legal name. I wonder if Kody is his first/legal name or maybe it is a middle/nickname. Curious to see the cost of Meri's home when it closes. Janelle and Christine were within a few hundred dollars of each other, Robyn was about 2000.00 more. Lets see how Meri's house comes in.

    9. How in the hell did this loser bunch of grifters get home loans? They have no steady income, they recently filed bankruptcy and the list goes on and on. Who in the world is really buying these houses? I am completely disgusted with this bunch. When my husband and I bought our home in March 2010 we had to show where every penny came from in our savings an checking account. We had to show 2 years residency and 2 years tax

    11. His name is Kody Wynn Brown. He and Meri haven't closed yet. I'm sure their home will close sometime this coming week. Interestingly enough, their mortgages are FHA loans through a company notorious for predatory lending.

      Delete
    12. Hah! Predators loaning to predators. how fitting.

      Delete
    13. That makes sense. I figured they probably got the home based on those original terms of 40% down, interest only, balloon payment, etc. that they were talking about last season. For a predatory agency this is a no lose situation. The homes are not upside down and they will have collected a boat load of interest before the TLC gravy trains pulls away and they foreclose on the homes. The Browns probably got the money from their TLC "earnings" and their book sales. They are also too stupid to realize that they cannot maintain these homes.

      Delete
    14. I'm an attorney who does default servicing/foreclosures, so I'm curious....who IS the lender for these loans? I can think of several "notorious" for predatory lending...

Thanks for sharing the info, if you can!

    15. My understanding is that Chritine and Janelle have legally changed their last names to Brown. I doubt Robyn has done so, yet. Thus, she can't use Brown on things that require you use your true, legal name...such as property deeds.

  41. Regarding Drake, I agree with those of you who think the dog's death, while maybe necessary--maybe, we don't know all the details, was partially done for the benefit of the cameras. I mean, what's with bringing a vet out to the house (where the dog is about to be buried) for a consultation? Please tell me that wasn't the first discussion they had with a vet on the condition of Drake. Please tell me they actually had given this some real serious thought before this episode was filmed.

A couple things were confirmed to me in this episode:
    1) Meri couldn't make a decision if her life depended on it (or her dog's life, anyway). [She's wishy-washy about what she wants in the houses, whether or not to have a kid, and I'm sure she's way second-guessing this entire sisterwives concept. I bet she now wishes she could have a do-over on inviting Janelle into the family.]
    2) Mariah is very immature. She thinks just because she wants something, it should be that way--just because she wants a sibling, her mother should try anything to have one, damn the monetary costs, damn the health costs. And just because she doesn't want to see the dog die, he should live on. Isn't she interested in being a doctor? She'd better come to grips with issues of life, death, and birth.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Don't believe what Meri says on the show that she plays a part in who Kody courts for marriage. At least not with Janelle and Christine. Jannelle proposed to Kody and so did Christine. In the book Meri says she didn't even know Jannelle wanted to be part of their family until Kody told her Janelle proposed to him. I agree with you about Mariah. She takes after her father in that if he wants something he should have it, like with those houses. She probably thinks that medical degree will appear suddenly with a minimum of work. I can see her being a chiropractor, but not a true medical doctor.

      Delete
    2. Hey hey hey, don't knock chiropractors >.> Lol I agree with you, she's too immature to make it in the real world. I bet they marry her off before she finishes her associates.

      Delete
    3. I don't see Meri as wishy-washy. I see her as passive aggressive. She knows precisely what she wants and will have it. She knows exactly what she will do and does it. She knows what the answer is but will leave everybody guessing until the last possible moment before they don't care anymore.

Funny how we viewers see different things in different ways.

      Delete
    4. "Leave everybody guessing until the last possible moment before they don't care anymore."

Border Collie - perfect summary of Meri's personality.

How and why the other wives put up with this drama and meanness just astounds me. I remember the couch session when Meri talked about how she "abused" Janelle (complete with her requisite waterworks running down her fake tanned face), yet no one else said a word, they just sat and watched her cry. Yet she keeps on doing the same thing day in and day out and no one calls her out on it?? Incredible!

      Delete
    5. If the show displays 5% of the mean factor, and the book only revealed another 10% of the mean factor then a whole lot more goes on when the cameras aren't rolling....Remember Mariah's outbursts when she was on the trip to Utah and the other kids pranked her about Hunter drinking? Wonder where she learned that.

  42. I have been going back and watching the 1st season again and the difference is so noticeable. They ALL seemed so much happier and Kody was so much kinder to Janelle and Christine. It seems that throwing Robyn into the mix made everything else go downhill. That being said, their whole lifestyle is wrong, in my opinion. Anyway, they all seemed kinder to each other. Kody also seemed more engaged with the children in the early episodes. My prediction is that they will attempt to add another wife and their family will implode. I don't see this ending well for the poor children. :(

  43. I forgot to add that the Dargers seem boring in comparison and given too much exposure they will go down the same path as the Browns.

    1. I agree 100% the Dargers are boring beyond belief. They would make for a terrible series. Say what you will about the Browns, and we've said plenty :} they provide entertainment value that the Dargers never could.

      Delete
    2. I agree that the Dargers would not provide the element of "huh?" that the Browns consistently show in their dysfunctional pattern.
As twisted as that sounds, that is really a key element in any successful "Reality" show that can keep the viewers watching.

Think of any one of the past and present reality shows....all of them have/had a factor that breeds comments, and yes, opposing views.

Even the Duggers have a *fan base* whose attention is not based on cheering them on and happily wondering if Michelle is pregnant yet again. Instead, some viewers are hooked on watching what isn't happening for their 19 children, and commenting on what they see.

The Kate and Jon show probably wouldn't have even lasted beyond the 2nd season if the parents' dysfunction hadn't shown all the cracks. Those kids were adorable but would viewers have tuned in every week to see the same happy dynamics?

Would "The Osbournes" have had any viewers if Ozzy was shown as a straight-up, great dad and the kids and Sharon were all living in functional bliss.
      And the list goes on....

As sick as this is, the Browns fit right in with what a reality show needs to be to have any legs and pro/con viewer appeal. Although, there does come a time when even those legs are maxed out, and the shark jumping begins.

      Delete
    3. i keep hearing Christine's words about how boring monogamy is. My monogamous life's not as boring and overly structured as the Dargers nor is it chaotic and dysfunctional like the "exciting" Brown's life is. I'm content with my normal happy medium long-term monogamous lifestyle. (nope, neither my hubby or I have cheated either in 30+years contrary to popular plyg marketing 101. lol)

      Delete
    4. How would Christine know if monogamy was boring or not? She might find out that having her husband around everyday was anything but boring!

  46. I'm new at posting but have to save some things. We had to put our 17 year old beautiful pound puppy to sleep last August. He was my best friend. He had several strokes, was deaf and mostly blind with some stiffness. he took no medication. He sometimes peed in the house. The vet said he was actually doing pretty ok under the circumstances. But one morning he couldn't stand up and kept falling over. He stopped eating and drinking. We took him to the vet and he felt it was time. I held him in my arms as he left us. Been married to my husband for 39 years and never seen him cry. We both stood there in front of the vet, office workers and other people and completely broke down. I thought Drakes's death was so wrong on so many levels. I only saw him once in the yard at Lehi. I was completely shocked and disgusted this was shown.
I think Janelle should take her children and leave. She is the only one that has any life skills whatsoever and is capable of making a life. Please run away Janelle.
Christine needs to leave too but I'm not sure she would be able to make it.
Robyn thought she was going to be the cute new special wife. She's not. Kody's already looking for #5.
Meri is indeed the mean girl. Spoiled, selfish and greedy. I thought a wet bar was just that, a bar. Didn't know she drank.
No words to describe Kody. He's a horrible father.
All that being said, I am addicted.

But if he shows up on "Dancing with the Stars" (as she did), I'll never watch it again. Hmmm. I wonder if they'd give him a rotation of four female partners.

  50. I am a first time poster and long time reader of this wonderful blog.
I was sad to see how little support Christine received when she studied for her real estate exam and little praise for passing. If this "marriage" really worked, each wife would receive the emotional support that she needs from her sister wives and her "husband". Instead, we see only Robyn receiving real emotional support from Kody. This reminds me of the episode in Wyoming at Kody's parents ranch, where Kody's mother was talking about how jealous and hurt she was when Janelle's mother became a new "wife" and Janelle's mother "took care of" the husband, while Kody's mother took care of the children. Insensitivity seems to be a quality of both Kody and his dad.

Is this how the Browns are financing the three houses? I had never heard of an interest only loan before that episode. Doesn't sound like a good deal to me since you'll never build up any equity. Are these type of loans common?

And what's with only three closing? Did Meri finally cave in on her own home and decide to move in with Robyn because Kody doesn't want his name on that debt? Or was she denied her own house because she decided not to do the in vitro? No more babies=no new house? Did Robyn get French Doors?

I sure hope for the sake of the innocent children born into the train wreck of the Brown household that these homes hold some much needed stability for them. 57. I've tried to read most of the comments here, but forgive me if I misinterpret any. First of all, the Drake episode is the very last episode that I will ever watch of this "reality" show. Thank God I DVR'd it and was able to >> through most of Drake's walk on/walk off (forever) role. I have a 17 year old poodle mix that has just begun losing control of her bladder. And although she's never been cuddly or particularly sweet, girlfriend's got ATTITUDE and is going nowhere until the vet says that's the humane option. The fact that Kody was able to dig a grave with a camera on him and his only faked emotion was in regards to not being able to say "goodbye" to a house that he currently owns, tells me everything I need to know about these folks. They are lying liars that lie.

In regards to them vying for pity sales of their junk/clunk jewelry, it makes total sense to me. They are just continuing to suck off the public's teat, be it welfare or selling junk jewelry or green Kool Aid. They feel entitled (which is obvious)and I never see them (either privately or publically) being accountable for the kids they've chosen to bring into this world. When TLC pulls the plug, it'll be back to welfare. They'll never work an honest day in their lives with the exception of Janelle. I do have a little hope there.

If you're reading this Brown Family, I have a book suggestion for you and your children. "People Of The Abyss" by Jack Wild. I have never taken anything for granted after reading this book and it filled me with more gratitude, which I believe you are sorely missing. Look at it as a compiled project. Take the kiddos to see Les Mis and then read a real account of what life was really like before a public welfare system was in place. A time in which people suffered horrifically due to no fault of their own for the most part.

These people infuriate me, but more than anything they make me literally sick to my stomach. Sorry for the long rant. Both myself and my acid reflux thank those that suffer through this tripe on a weekly basis.

Maybe they MADE the jewelry extra ugly and extra pricey just to keep the snark fest going...who knows...

and now we know that Meri is apparently doing the shipping from her house (or planning to). All she needs to do is go to her local post office and get a bunch of Priority Mail or Express Mail small sized boxes and use those for shipping, pay for flat-rate postage and insurance online, and if they can't make it to the post office just give the packages to the mailman. shouldn't cost more than 7 bucks MAX to ship that stuff within the US I don't think. (this is without checking the postal rates). So for so long why did they charge such HIGH shipping costs...?

    2. NOBODY is buying that junk jewelery. I find it amazing how stupid these people are and even more amazing that they think viewers consider them "strong women"! They are as weak and as dumb as they come...

  59. Doesn't make sense. My husband cried as much or more than I did when we had to put our dog down. He really is not a good Dad. I feel for those kids.

  60. Kody having more wives actually decreased meri's chances of conceiving all those years.

  61. okay I was riding my bike and thought about the entire house thing.

there's a big part of me that agrees with CJ - let them get the houses and lets see what happens.

Yes - there ARE interest-only loans, but no legitimate lender would write those nowadays I don't think. They were very popular during the Real Estate Bubble between 2002-2007. Along with Adjustable Rate Mortgages.

I'm really hoping that Carol CPA will chime in her thoughts, since I'm far from an accounting expert!!! I'm just a renter!

    My theories:

they got a big lump sum from SOMEWHERE to pay down - like the initial loan that was approved last season - 40% down and interest-only for x amount of years. Maybe Kody DID talk his dad into putting a mortgage on the ranch.

I really, truly do not see TLC putting up the cash to pay the down - again they're a media business NOT a real estate business.

The Lehi house still is not on the market nor has it changed hands.

    the jewelry - i don't think so.

Of course since financing is all public record, it wouldn't take all that long to dig and see who the lien holder(s) are.

    Guess we shall see...

    ReplyDelete
  62. I have an idea- let's have the Browns go on Shark Tank and put their jewelry business up in front of those investors. I would love to see Kody try to explain all the financial details on that show. I think he would probably get laughed off the stage. I would definitely watch though in case any scouts from Shark Tank are reading here!!!!!

  63. I wouldn't be surprised if they try any and all reality shows when TLC dumps them. This is a group of adults, most of whom have NO real job skills that are evident. Maybe they could open their own fast-food restaurant. They could sell bad burgers, autographs, tacky jewelry, and creative mortgage financing advice.

And then we would all know where to avoid. :-)

Anyway you slice it...this has as nightmare ending for the kids. Who gives a shite about the adults.

I see many people here who feel sorry for janelle and christine. These women defraud the government, lie, and the tax payers foot the bill. They're all losers and completely immoral in my opinion.

  65. Seriously, I'd love to see 20/20, Dateline, or some other investigative show do an expose on reality shows, TLC shows in particular - I think we're going to see another Gosselin arc - isn't Kate now struggling to make her house payments? I don't follow her myself. We'll see the same arc with Honey Boo Boo at some point as well IMO.

    1. DJ, I would love to see someone "pull back the curtain" on these shows. I disagree about Honey Boo Boo, or at least I reserve judgement at this time on finances for them. I saw an interview with Mama June a few days ago and she said that other than new clothes and things like that that the only big purchase they have made was a new 4 wheeler which probably cost about 5000 dollars. I am just guessing on the price but that's about the going rate. Anyway she said that all of the girls money from the show has been put into individual accounts for when they are older. She said sugar bear still works 7 days a week and they still live in their little white house by the railroad tracks. June is thrifty, she coupons and goes to the weekly sales. I think she probably gets that this reality show will only last a few seasons. The last I heard they didn't even have an agent.

    2. I'm not just talking about finances or big houses - I'm referring to what I consider famewhoring, in the most literal sense.

I don't watch HBB but I see stuff like this where "Mama June" encourages her daughter to stuff herself with junk and cut up.
      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2216342/Honey-Boo-Boo-loads-Mountain-Dew-candy-bars-jumping-wrestling-ring.html

I'm sure that her mother is a coupon clipper etc - she knows its all part of the schitck. Meanwhile outside the show she has her daughter act like a fool at these public events...please.

    3. Plus June has also turned down an offer by Rosie (?) to move them into a bigger house and away from the railroad track. June says they're fine where they are.

Just curious to know if anyone checked out the Darger online store. www.polygamystore.com
Looks like the Browns have some competition.

Also, hated the dog story line. Putting a family dog down for ratings is quite pathetic. I am also on the 'Mean Meri Train'. That woman should be ashamed of herself.

  67. I would love to know what PETA and other animal rights activists have to say about Mourning the Loss. I did a google search but didn't find anything.

I am finished watching this show. I've said that almost every week since the new season started, but I mean it this time (though I could never stop reading SWB). I was so bothered by the last 2 episodes that I couldn't even read the comments until today.

Yes, I know we may not have gotten the full picture or the real story with having the dog put down but the whole thing just didn't feel right - the way it was presented to us or the way it was edited - not sure which. Why have we never seen this dog before? Why was there not more discussion about meds or other alternatives to putting the dog down? Why was Meri so concerned with how she was portrated instead of caring about the dog? Is she just worried he's going to ruin the carpet in her new home? Was this just strategic editing or is this how it really happened? What parts of that whole situation were scripted? It left me with so many questions and just a general over-all "icky" feeling.

As for the rest of the newest episodes - they just didn't seem "right" either. They were boring and infuriating at the same time. I just don't think I can watch anymore.

    1. I wrote to PETA and actually received a response. She did say she was passing the information on to someone else, but I felt her response was a little condescending so I wrote her back. I responded that I knew the pain of having to make the decision to euthanize an animal. I also responded it was very irresponsible for TLC to air this program, or maybe it should have had a warning for disturbing content. I asked her to watch the program. It is apparent to me and many others they put this dog down because it was having accidents and was "12." If there had been any other reason they would have exploited the drama more. Also, there are medications you can give an older dog. Anyway, this was their first response. I do hope others will contact them too if you feel this dog was used just to create drama for their reality show.

      Dear Rhonda,

Thank you for writing to PETA and for sharing this information with us; we’ve passed your note along to the appropriate staffers here. Like you, we do not believe that animals should be used to create drama or to increase television ratings. We often speak out against the use of animals as “props” or as a means of entertainment.

Having shared our lives with beloved animal companions, we also know that our long and joyful journeys will end in heartbreak at some point, often in the form of euthanasia – because of sickness, age, or lack of quality of life. Making the decision to end an animals’ life is never easy; some guardians will try every last treatment before they feel it’s “time;” others do not want their companions to experience weeks or months of suffering. In this case, because we do not know the details surrounding the decision, we can only respect the family’s choice and sympathize with them on the loss of their friend.

For more thoughts and resources on the topic of euthanasia, please see http://www.PETA.org/issues/companion-animals/the-loss-of-a-companion-animal.aspx. For tips on cruelty-free living and sharing compassionate choices with others, visit http://www.prime.PETA.org. Thanks again for writing, and for caring!

      With kind regards,

I took a stroll over to the Darger's online store.

*sigh* Yet another home-grown store of overpriced stuff. Although at least they are attempting to be a bit market savvy and are offering free shipping during their launch period.
But come on..69.95 for a tiny knitted enfant cap and booties, and a tiny newborn size "cocoon." (basically a narrow knitted papoose-like sleeve of yarn.)

19.95 for a small jar of cream or salve !!
Home-made salves and creams that are individually labeled for just about any malady. Snake oil??

Apparently they are targeting fellow plygs by using "Polygamy Store" as their official calling card.
And maybe they will capture a loyal following from plygs for sales. That is if the plyg customers have any allowance money or surplus from welfare checks.

Can't see non-plygs shelling out for this stuff.

  69. Just thinking tonight--I wonder if at a certain point after so many years of being a sisterwife, you want your husband to add on another wife or two. Not that you want to share money, but if you are getting very little money or support (emotional and physical, in the form of helping with household activities) anyway, then maybe you want him to get another wife or two and stay away. Resentment has to build and build--and after years of being treated as worthless, replaceable, ordinary, breeding stock--can any of these women actually still love their husband? Janelle is faking it. So is Christine, her commit about "not wanting the man" and "not being about the man" is a way to stick a knife in Kody (which he deserves). It is a way to say, I'm here because of my religion, not because I love you. The constant pressure to keep popping out babies, when you know you will be raising them alone. Once you get close to 40, you're not looking forward to more babies, especially if you already have 5 or 6, with older ones in high school. I hope as Janelle and Christine move into their new homes with their kids, they can move into a kind of sisterwife retirement. Tell Kody, go stay with Robyn, go try to get Meri pregnant, I'm good. I don't need you here. Come say hi to the kids and keep the financial agreement we have, but don't touch me and don't expect me to love you, because I don't and you don't deserve me.

The easiest way to be a sisterwife has to be to just check out and move on mentally and emotionally, even if it isn't possible to physically leave at the present time.

One more thing, as I sit here writing this I'm thankful I have such a wonderful husband. This show always reminds me of that.

    ReplyDelete
  70. It seems so ironic that plygs put so much value on male babies until they become competition for the limited number of available wives. If they lived on a compound somewhere, Sol could very well be given the boot. I agree that it's sad that Kody never spends any time with Truely, but she really does seem like a happy little girl. Maybe there's a correlation there.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Can someone please tell me how the Browns managed to get these homes. Christine has never held a job outside the home. They are basically single women. I do not know of any single women qualifying for home loans without having a good job and making a lot of money. Their viewers are not stupid. Can't wait to see other polygamist families making a bee line to the mortgage company. Yes, I would love to see a show like 20/20 or Dateline giving us the real scoop. I am so done with this show. Too many lies.

    1. It looks like their mortgage company is well-known for playing fast and loose with delinquencies, etc. I suspect there are many months of episodes coming up regarding, "We're late with our payments and we may LOSE the houses."

Everyone needs to buy their tacky jewelry to SAVE them!!!!! (Not me.)

      Delete
    2. They bought the houses with all the money they get from TLC - which comes from people watching their show - if we watch, we contributed. I vote we don't watch, and instead let Mister Sister and CJ fill us in on the details - much more fun anyway! Thanks to them both for the great job they do!

  72. Oh dear. Went to Darger's online store. It's even worse than the Brown's. The "vain repair salve" alone is worth the price of admission. On the other hand, "Vain repair" might be in order for Krody. None of the products offer a list of ingredients. The crocheted baby items don't specify what kind of yarn is used. Cotton? Acrylic? Wool? They also offer "professional website design" services right next to the "soulstice healing balm." This is particularly funny, as theirs actually makes MSWC look good.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If you click on a product, details are provided. The yarn is acrylic, and the salve ingredients are provided with a standard " . . . not tested or evaluated by FDA."

I agree that the stuff is overpriced, but the "store" is a lot more professional than MSWC and has items that don't scream "FAN RIPOFF."

    2. And the prices seem in line with the hours put into the making and cost of the materials. It's not WalMart or craft show prices but many are fair. Those baby hats are real cute-- I like the bumble bee, princess crown and Sponge Bob especially and I bet she'd one in any school colors requested, like the U of U hat.

Truly'd be real cute in the Santa Cap. :)

  73. I too went to the Darger's online store. Not sure if it was just my computer, but the typeface was blurry and looked really cheap. And the "Vain Repair Salve" should read "VEIN," unless it is indeed marketed towards men with multiple wives and children who still flit around thinking the entire universe revolves around them. In that case, Kody should be dipped head-first in a barrel of the stuff ASAP.

    ReplyDelete

    1. yeah, i was wondering if they were making a lame attempt at being clever w/their "VAIN repair" and "SOULstice healing" play on words. If so, it's a fail since their descriptions didn't tie into the "cleverness." But it sounds like polygamy homeopathy ointments to me. Also, why are peeps supposed to buy this stuff to help support Joe's older sister's plyg husband cause he isn't doing well? She's several wives down the ladder, too. These women are all supposed to be having babies constantly, raising the kids by themselves, taking care of their homes, cooking, cleaning, etc. etc. AND looking out financially for the KING, too?? geesh.

  74. Kodys wives are his alter ego.... Meri is the scam artist in him, Its him and her and everybody else is a means to and end. Janell is the practical realistic part of him, that doesn't exist and that is why she is the lone man out and why he cant relate to her like the others. Christine is his dramatic wife, theatrical, likes being babied and having the center of attention, that's why he doesn't get along with her because only ONE can be center. And Robin is his ego wife, he see's himself young and sophisticated with her. She is a moron but hey he thinks she is young smart and beautiful and she is a moron, but slick because I don't think she thinks as highly of him as she pretends, she just knows how to play him.

  75. I think the only way the sister wives were approved for mortgages was because they earn income from the show. They must earn a fair amount to be able to purchase such nice houses. If it weren't for the show, there's no way they could be living like that.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think the Browns got the houses and paid cash for them. I think they had the money from ratings bonuses from TLC. The loan drama is such a joke I can't believe any of it. I do think each episode pays a base rate, but then they get more from ratings.

  78. Regarding interest only loans.....I honestly don't know if they still exist, but the interest only was only for the beginning of the loan, typically for 5 years. At that point, the principle would kick in , and often (always?) the loan would also become adjustable too. Those loans were for folks intending to refinance or sell within 5 years....or folks who could *afford* the higher payment, but for various reasons wanted the extra cash flow for the first few years of their home....I believe it was also good for folks who temporarily had cash flow issues, and expected their income to go up.

Clearly, even if these style loans are still available, the Browns are not good candidates for them, as their incomes will go down, and they have crappy credit to boot.

  79. did Mean Meri not close on her house because she went over budget due to the wet bar and french doors, dammit kody! whoops...?

  80. Okay, so...we've been screaming at them to get "real" jobs, and it appears Christine and Janelle have done just that. Working as admins for Mona might not be glamous, high powered, or bring in a lot of money, but it's an honest day's work, it's NOT a get rich quick scheme, and it's a way for them to learn a skill which they can hopefully use to eventually work as realtors themselves.

Anyone else find it interesting that the two Browns to finally come back to planet earth, i.e. reality, are Christine and Janelle??
