Discussion Page 8/14/13 with Some Recent Tweets

Seems like Mariah is a chip off the old block of Mom and Dad. Wasn't it just a couple of years ago Kody said the same thing on how to handle meanies on twitter? And it sounds like Meri and Robyn are doing the same thing over at MSWC with folks complaining about not receiving the merchandise they ordered. Anyway, good luck to her college roommate! And Mariah remember, you'll catch more flies with honey than with vinegar...Or was that sisterwives?

This was a very nice family shot, but I wonder what Kody meant by working together? And it's nice to see Hunter and Logan don't share Kody's affinity for wrinkled shirts.

And on the topic of Mariah and her roommate, looks like she's moving into her dorm this week. Wonder if Kody is driving Meri and Mariah to Westminster College, or will they just put her on the next flight to Salt Lake City? Hmmm....

Now why would Meri retweet this gem from Dr. Phil? If it said "If he's in love with PUBLICITY, he will..." I would definitely say this was Kody.

And leave it to a "family friend" to retweet a photo of Janelle's "great room". Too bad Robyn couldn't tear herself away from her phone for the few minutes to watch the premiere. Doesn't she look happy to be there? Oh look! Janelle's got the same window blinds in her McMansion like I have in my apartment!

I've noticed several readers are trying to resurrect that old argument: How much money do the Brown's make for filming Sister Wives.

Until the Browns make a public statement relating what their income is, any discussion on the topic is just speculation. Let's agree to disagree and move on, please.

For those who are  interested in reading what  was discussed  previously  on SWB, here are a few links to those comments.

Thank you for your cooperation.

  1. Hands down Janelle wins the prize for the best looking, most put together family. She should be very proud of her bunch! Too bad Savannah wasn't in the picture.

Too bad Mariah can't block me from SWB :P

Maybe Meri SHOULD keep those arms covered, yowser!

    4. that lady is way too young to be Meri's mother. unless you're talking about a younger "bonus mom" of her plyg dad. lol yeah - i'm pretty sure it's a relative tho and definitely not Meri herself.

  2. I was thinking about Mariah wanting to be in a plural marriage. If she was so ticked off about being the last to move into a new house how is she going to feel if another wife gets more attention or gets a gift that she doesn't get. She was so mad and it was just a house. They could have gone to a cabin for a holiday Christmas again, they seemed to enjoy that.

I know she is still young but it seems many of them marry young and it would be a rude awakening to her. I don't think she knows how much heartache is involved in these plural marriages.

    1. I wonder if the kids have read the book their parents wrote. I tried reading it but there was so much heartbreak and pain and misunderstandings between every member of the family that I couldn't finish it. That should have scared away any of the children from wanting to do polygamy themselves.

Then again, I think all the bad things about polygamy are overruled by religious belief in their minds. I do think Mariah is incredibly naive, but even if she wasn't, her religion might push her down the same path regardless.

  5. Nice picture of Janelle and her kids. Wish I could say the same for Kody, but he looks the same in all the pictures with whichever is his wife and family du jour.
(loved your comment about the boys' shirts vs their disheveled father's...so true)

Janelle looks good, really good. She deserves praise for her efforts.

Mariah should consider an attitude adjustment. Her snark may not play so well with her college peers. But she will learn that, they all do.

    Note to Meri,
With Mariah going to college and with you now all alone with your 5 bedrooms and wet bar, now would be the time to do something *productive* and contributing!

    1. What does Meri do with herself? Isn't it time she found a job? This show won't be on forever and what will they all do for money when the episode money stops coming in? I worry about women who couldn't survive on their own and would like to see her and Christine become more empowered. I wish Meri would stop crying about having a baby (at her age) and be more invested in her own value as a person. If Robin has another baby, it should be her own. Pregnancy is a difficult physical experience and none of them are getting any younger. (By the way, I'm Liz, I just don't know how to list my name :)

    2. When you reply, Select Profile, then Name/URL but just put your name in. It's v. v. easy.

    3. Meri does do something. She dusts her wet bar everyday and eats all the pastries she displays on it. Get off her back. These things can fill in a day nicely. (Oh Gawwd - the snark in me is taking over.....better have my first cup of coffee of the day and pull my snark in!)

    4. I showed my husband the "wet bar" scene. He just looked at me and said, "That would be perfect for........" fill in the blanks.

I told him about the empty nest with 5 bedrooms and he just laughed and said it would take a long time to do it in all the rooms, plus the living room, kitchen, wet bar. I had a good laugh.

If it were all about the counter space for entertaining, then you just have some collapsible tables that you can cover with pretty cloths and decorate.

      Delete
    5. Come on does anyone believe that she just needed extra counter space? Its a wet bar, who needs a bar in their home? People who like bars and drink a lot...it is likely how she copes with the stress of living such an awful lifestyle...I bet Merri's rehab will be a storyline next season, or Merri confronting her alcohol problems...I've never heard of someone throwing such a fit over a wet bar that didn't drink a lot...

  6. Re-watching the new episode now, and I think that the mission statement scene is so telling...

Notice Robyn's body language: she looks so uncomfortable sitting next to Garrison and her body is turned away from him a little. Now, I'm no expert, but I think that says something about being guarded.

Also notice the way the kids were sitting: four of Janelle's kids all on the couch together, the teenage girls (minus Madison) all grouped together on the floor, and Paedon and Gwendolyn (sp?) near Christine on the couch.

I don't think that the Brown's deserve these homes, but I do hope that the kids become closer as a result of them.

  7. Thanks Cynical Jinx! Nice to get some recent photos. I just love Janelle. Great pic of her kids! Don't you just wonder what goes on in their minds when they see the finished shows on TV? My guess is they blame the production crew for any unflattering segments. Wish it were a better shot of Robyn so we could see if there's a bun in the oven - as reported in foreign media.

    2. I did not think these people could get any more stupid. Customers are posting on MSWC FB negative things about not getting their merchandise because the MSWC has no contact function. So customers are going to their facebook as a result. They are mixing their business with what should be a positive outlet(FB) and doing nothing but damage to their business by not having a contact portal for customers freaking out about their purchase..and now Mariah is bragging about blocking people being mean to her family? Thats what they get for begging for money on tv and not following up in a manner be fitting a professional business. WOW

      Delete
    3. Mariah blocking people on twitter who say shit to her is completely and utterly different than MSWC having no contact function. It's not like she is seaking out the comments (like coming on here) they are coming to her. She is only a kid. I know I wouldn't condone people saying shit about me.

Only thing I would do would be to make her profile private so they can not tweet her.

      Delete
    4. There are customers desperate to reach someone, anyone on MSWC facebook, because no one will respond thru their MSWC website. So, if you read thru the comments on their MSWC FB page they are saying tweeting is their only option as that is what it appears robyn, or any other Brown will respond to. so..read the comments and Mariah is an adult and discussed here frequently

    5. Mariah shouldn't just accept anyone on her twitter.

    6. I have always been a little surprised that the kids, even the ones that are now 18, have had public twitter accounts. At say 15 to allow a teen to have a public twitter account could really cause problems. The kids didn't ask to be put on this show and shouldn't have their friends and things that they tweet available for just anyone to read. JMO obviously but I think they should be more careful.

    7. Its just yet another example of the terrible parenting...The Brown's sis this show for the pay check and the fame without thinking about how it would effect their kids, they had no plan, they've admitted as much. The kids having public twitter accounts when they are underage shows that mommy's and daddy aren't paying attention and protecting them. You have to be on top of your kids social media, it is a challenge for all of us in this day and age but it is what comes with being a responsible parent. The Brown's all five of the parents are not responsible, they are too consumed with their relationships with each other, Sister wife relationships and with fighting over Kody...it is evident!

  13. We have been speculating so much about how much money per episode they earn. Maybe it is not as much as we think. There is a feature article about Jon and Kate in People Magazine, just out, that is reporting they made $25,000 per episode. That is a far cry from the $75,000 per episode people have been guessing Kody and Krew earn. Also, in the article Kate is lamenting the many mistakes they made as reality show stars. Wonder if there will be a tell-all post mortem in the press of what went wrong after SW gets cancelled. The possibilities are endless given so many adults that could sell out to the tabloids. http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/celeb-news/gosselin-kids-grown-kate-jon-still-t-seem-173406410.html

    1. Many of the readers here on SWB never really believed the Browns were pulling down $75K/adult/episode. The Browns spend like they do, however. Financing not one but four McMansions (worth more than Kate's ) with new cars for wives (and kiddies driving parents old cars) not to mention more trips to Disneyland last year than many people make in a lifetime.

Once the TLC train quits running, I think their financial situation will be uglier than Kate G's is now.

      Delete
    2. I will have to seek that issue out - I never watched the G's much - maybe 3 eps. But to me they are similar to the Browns as far as the train wreck element.

Just watched a portion of "The Little Couple" which was promoted on this weeks ep of SW - what a nice family - I liked them, hadn't watched before :-)

      Delete
    3. The sad thing about Kate is she brought it all on herself. Their show was extremely popular and once she had her own show she became even more of a witch than she'd been when it was J&K+8! She was just way out of control and no one wanted to watch that.

Of course the financial problems were caused by mistakes they made early on like moving to ever larger, fancier and expensive homes.

  14. If Kate Gosselin is lamenting anything in the media, it probbaly was done so that she can get even more media coverage.

    3. I also wonder about the sponsors of the show. They may not want their products associated with polygamy. I do know that some ads are no longer being shown during SW. Follow the money. If TLC is not getting sponsors for the show then eventually the show will stop. In the beginning it was popular because people tuned in to see why 4 women can share 1 man and have lots of kids. Now people can't stand some of the adults. The Brown's are banking on the show being renewed. IMHO, this family is aware of this blog and they know how people feel about them. I would hate for my kids to have to endure this. They should have thought of their kids before going public. But no, they wanted the money and their 15 minutes of fame.

  18. I honestly can't believe that this family sits in the same room and watches this show together....there is no way. I would think that it would rip this family apart seeing some of the garbage that goes on.

My condolences to Janelle for having cheap plastic (PVC) vertical blinds. Those things are beyond nasty but clearly in keeping with the cheap finishings of the McMansions.

If you want to check it out, it's really a fun interview and darned if I didn't close the tab with the link. Sorry. Thanks again Anony 9:53 for this show info. The show, The Real, looks fun.

I find it interesting this season that Kody has commented more than once about being more romantic with Janelle, at the same time she is losing weight and looking great (on the show "The Real" it looked like she was the same size as Meri now). Makes me wonder if Janelle is just feeling more comfortable with her body now, or if Kody did not want anything to do with her until she started dropping the weight.

I decided to take a break from my stupid obsession with polygamy. Well, I still came to this blog. but anyway. I have always been interested in Gypsies/Romani so I decided to try The 2 shows on TLC. My big fat American gypsy wedding and Gypsy Sisters. And of course doing research for myself. I have come to the conclusion that TLC likes to take certain groups and doesn't portray them accurately. I don't see polygamy being portrayed fairly. I don't see ANY of the bad things I have read about in books by former polygamists. Nor do they portray Roma culture accurate either. Most of the behavior I see on the Gypsy shows is redneck behavior. And I'm sure we all know that the Browns are not typical polygamists. I can't believe how low TLC is willing to go for ratings.

    1. I have no proof of this at all, but a lot of schools offer kids the chance to fundraise for European and other big trips. We did that hear for our school to go to Scotland. So it may not have cost as much as we think, and that might explain why one daughter went on trip A vs Trip B if one put more time in than the other.

Mormons don't have anything thing similar to what you are speaking of. The only mission they have is not a 'trip' but a 2 year (men) 18 mo. (ladies) self/family paid serice/proselytizing time spent away from home. While they serve they live in humble circumstances and work 5 days of the week, the 6th day being a prep day where they get ready for the upcoming week and the 7th day being the sabbath.

I'm guessing Mariah is lucky enough to be an 'only' child and therefore her mom could afford (with her 1/4th of the family budget) to send her to Europe.

  30. I don't see Meri or Mariah in that picture, and it says they are watching the season premiere. Wasn't that just a few weeks ago? If so, they would all have been in the new homes for at least six months. I agree that the woman in short sleeves on the couch isn't one of the Browns. Not a lot of close communication or happiness going on in that room. If I were part of that family, I would only want to watch the broadcast in a closed room, all by myself - and be delighted if they didn't show anything negative about me. I just can't imagine ANY of them thinking that ANY episode shows their family in a good light. Must be weird to see things that were taped months ago.

If the woman in the photos isn't Meri, it's a really close match. Does Meri have an evil twin? Hmmm... Does she even *need* one? lol

    6. Actually I think that's a relative. I've seen her in some of the teens, tweets. She, Maddie and Aspyn all went out on the town in one of their tweets and that looks like the girl/lady they went with.

    8. Hi Jinx, Kody is riding the obligatory "lazy boy" chair, that has been purchased for each home and planted in front of the TV. He needs glasses now and does not want to wear them, so he needs to be close to the set. From this vantage point he can re-run and re-run episodes of Sister Wives and His hair flipping scenes to his hearts content.

    9. Could be the wife of Sean (the trainer). She's built much like Janelle, and would not have a problem with sleeveless tops and capri pants. Since Janelle, Robyn, and Christine are all wearing long-sleeved tops in this picture, I can't imagine that Meri would have dared to walk across the cul-de-sac (IN PUBLIC) in such an immodest outfit.

  37. That's totally Meri. No way if it was the trainers wife that Madison would be sitting that close to her. I figure that Janelle is sitting at the stool because she didn't care to watch, was walking around doing stuff and they told her to sit for a second to snap the picture.

  38. haven't read any comments yet but what struck me immediately in the family watch picture was Janelle's on her phone, too along w/Robyn AND Meri has exposed arms almost clear to the shoulders AND capris that are almost exposing her knees!! OH MY! has she gone "immodest" on us??

  39. I also wonder if they watch all the shows together. You know it’s gotta be awkward to see things you might not have noticed when you were in the moment. Like, for instance, Janelle and Christine were probably so happy to get their houses that they didn’t see the huge stink eye Meri was shooting to them. Kody probably just keeps his chair turned the whole episode and then bolts after it airs…you know he will get some major feedback from which ever wife he is with that night. Given that it’s so many months after the fact, it just reopens the wounds all over again.

I agree that the woman on the couch is Meri. Not modest, but maybe in the comfort of her sister wife’s home, she feels free to let it all hang out.

  40. on second thought - is that even Meri?? i don't think it is. and I don't think Maddie would sit that close to Meri either. He threw Christine under the bus and over the bus a million times, he only puts up with Merri becasue he's legally married to her and she manipulates. Janelle he barely even tolerates. The only one he "loves" is Robyn.

  42. The argument made in a June 2012 blog post of Equity vs. Equality is coming to fruition. In Meri's pursuit of equal money in this arrangement, it's the children that will suffer in equality. Blogger predicted it would manifest itself this way in Meri demanding equal money for a house. She got more..but as she said "I'm over budget,o well" The fact that Mariah is going to a 38,000 a year college and Logan and know Aspyn are going to UNLV for 8,000 grand a year. The younger children are going to suffer even more as they loose these McMansions one by one as they are not financially coherent enough to make sure their finances are secure.

    1. Unfortunately, your comment is why the August 2013 change in the SWB Posting Guidelines was put into place.

There is no "magical age" of maturity, where a teenager spontaneously obtains the same life lessons that a 40 year old adult has learned.

Mariah's "attitude" as shown on Sister Wives has been a "hot" topic on many internet forums. For that reason, SWB will continue to post her comments for discussion here.

The problem is that some comments can be mean spirited to the extreme, and in my opinion would fall under the category of cyber bullying. And allow ME to be frank, they are uncomfortable to read, and obviously are meant to hurt and do harm. Those comments will NOT approved for publishing on SWB.

The worse comment submitted to SWB began with "I hate to be mean...but she's an adult now so I can say this..." and continued with sentence after sentence of the most extreme vitriol about a child (Yes a child, as she hadn't had her 18th birthday yet) I'd ever read. The August 2013 change was put into place so that all commenters would be made aware of SWBs zero tolerance for that kind of negativity.

So there you have it. I strongly suggest you reread the August 2013 change again, and think about how YOU can discuss Mariah's tweets in a positive manner, so if she or her friends reads them, they will learn from your response instead of being devastated by them.

Many commenters have shown this can be done. Therefore, SWB will continue to post Mariah's tweets with the expectation that commenters can be mature and pass on their opinion in a positive, constructive manner, when the subject is less than 21 years of age.

      Thank you.

Any further discussion on this particular topic will need to be made via email to the SWB email address available on this page, as per SWB Posting Guidelines

I think of that comment every day and still chuckle. Has anyone heard of any filming of the Browns in 2013? Perhaps this is the end or will it only be seen once a year. If they film Christmas 2013 then we will not see it until August of 2014, and by then nobody will care.

Of the 4 wives, Janelle is the least needy. She's clearly still in love with Kody (for better or worse) but she can function independently. I can see that Kody would be attracted to that... she's a break from the drama. They're the only "couple" whose emotional maturity seems in keeping with 20 years of marriage. Janelle may be the only one he as any respect for. I loved seeing him tell Robyn he was so tired after he and Janelle "broke in" their new bed.

  50. Just had a thought about the Brown's buying four homes. If the Bown's got one big house or 2 large or whatever cost savings set up..Kody saying each wife need autonomy was code for each wife wanted an investment in their own name and did not want to share tile or deed with another. Four homes insures 4 investments and not sharing with another wife. Again, the people are not one family, or their mantra about the benefits of being a sisterwife are worn out mantra embedded in their brains, packaged and sold to an audience finally seeing these people for the sales people they think they are.

Interesting that on the 2nd or 3rd page of the googles, lot 3 had a Condor built on it and was on market for 43? days, sold and was resold by the owner for $414,000. Looks like Browns are already underwater on these purchases. Way too bad but so predictable for this family! And LOL that may answer our questions about what kind of folks would like to be Brown neighbors. They may have already got rid of one neighbor.

@realkodybrown just wondering, why didn't you build one big house instead of four. Wouldn't that be easier?

    Kody Brown ‏@realkodybrown 11 Aug
@realitymother 3 reasons: resale, permitting and autonomy for each wife with her children.

Why would he buy 4 houses he cant afford with the thought of resale already on the brain? Wasnt the purpose of these homes to establish their roots and a place for the children to always come "home" too when/if ever they leave the nest? Hmm... I think we now know the real reason they kept the Lehi house...

    ReplyDelete

    1. He has been saying that since they moved. It could mean two things: they plan to move back as soon as the money stops or two when they get old and have to move no one in Las Vegas is going to want a huge 4 home house. It is MUCH more likely to sell that style of home in Utah where other plygs live.

      Delete
    2. And why would each wife want "autonomy" with their respective children, when the whole concept of "Sister Wives" is to promote "autonomy" as a family?

As far as, permitting, granted they probably would not have been able to build a multi-family house in their present gated cul-de-sac; but, what about outside official Vegas city limits/permitting jurisdictions?

And you are absolutely correct, the "resale" mentality should not even be a concern, upon move-in day to the "no place like home" mcmansions.

    3. From earlier talk, I thought that they had rented out the Lehi house. I actually thought it was a smart move on their part so the rental income could pay the Lehi mortgage. The house appeared empty so that makes one more mortgage payment to make. Yikes.

    7. Don't most people buy a home with the idea that some day they might want to sell it? In this transient society, that's pretty much a given. Eventually, people leave a house for one reason or another. It makes no fiscal sense to custom build a home with 4 separate living quarters in Nevada. In Utah where polygamy is more prominent, it might resell, but the buyer market would be limited. If a lender is involved, no way would they agree to finance such a home. 4 separate homes is the smartest choice.

  55. Would love to have been a fly on the wall four years ago when Kody first pitched his brainstorm to his harem of three about how they all could have loads of available cash without any one of them having to actually work ever again.
Or at least for the foreseeable future.

Enough $$$ for everyone to have their own McMansion, trips galore, cars, cars and more cars, freebies from Internet endorsing of products and services, and start-up cash for easy, tax-dodging flim-flam businesses.
Only catch was that the wives had to agree to put themselves AND *their children* out there for *public* scrutiny and criticism.

Also they had to accept the acquisition of a new, younger 4th wife with her three kids. (too bad for Christine who was newly pregnant at the time)
The 4th wife entrance was the only way they could get the TV contract.

And they all had to agree to "perform"....they had to agree to allow lies, exaggerations and distortions of the truth, while encouraging their children to also be less than authentic.
Kody had it all figured out (maybe they all did) on how they would pitch the show to the public as a sunny little tutorial and window on the happy side of polygamy.

The question is was Kody THAT good of a salesman?
Or were/are the three original wives simply that gullible and malleable?

Or were all of them (Kody and the three) THAT greedy and lacking in scruples that he didn't have to do any sales pitch at all, beyond laying out the facts.
(my money is on this one)

No naive stars in all of their eyes.
It was dollar signs from day one for ALL of them.

One thing I will give credit to Kody for, and where he outshines Big Joe Darger...
Kody found a way to have money, and all the limitless attention he craves...
    AND autonomy for *himself*.
Bullsh*t on his statement that the 4 McMansions were about giving his wives autonomy.
*HE* wanted the space and the freedom to come and go. Autonomy !!!

    1. Amused you are absolutely right on the money about the money. They were so broke, using food stamps, and declaring bankruptcy, that I think Kody had thought he died and went to heaven when the chance to make some money fell into his lap. I don't know if they even thought there might be any backlash from the public or perhaps they just didn't care. I think they were that desperate. Apparently the money they made in Lehi was not enough to pay their bills so they had to get out of there. I also think they put on a pretty good act to try and keep their audience. The religion is just a coverup for Kody to have his little harem.

      Delete
    2. Honestly, I don't think they were that desperate. (And let's not forget how the original three and Kody wax nostaligic at every camera clip about how *wonderful* their plyg life was back then)

They had already figured out how to scrounge for government handouts by exploiting the "single mother w/kids" angle to supplement whatever income was coming in.
At the point of the whole TV deal going down, they had 12 children (before Truely was born) with food stamps and etc. coming in for Christine's brood and maybe even Janelle's at some time.
Apparently, they were (at least Kody was) unwilling to live small, to live in keeping with their choices and with their means and in their professed religion.

I guess Meri could have looked for a more stable full-time job. As it was, it is still unclear whether she was a part-time, unpaid volunteer or a part-time paid employee. Whichever the actual truth is about her "job" back then, it was with a non-profit where the salaries are minimal. And what about Kody's job choices?
So even at that stage, it was all about choices. And let's not forget the bankruptcies, where they would run up debt and just walk away.

      Desperate???
Maybe not as much as determined to have their cake and gorge on it too.

The women can tell themselves this is the life they "choose" all they want...
but there is no way on earth they can really enjoy sharing their husband with other families.....
It's the kids I feel bad for. I was very close to my dad and knew he was there for me at the drop of a hat. I do not believe any of these kids could say the same about their dad. And that's just sad to me.

Granted I agree with what everyone says about how the adults are selfish, there's no real family connection, etc, But... who of us can really truly blame them for getting all they can out of their fifteen minutes of fame? I would, I wouldn't sell my soul or anything but I would definitely make the most of it. I don't think the Browns have sold their souls to get what they have. They may not be making the best choices, i.e. the jewelry business isn't that great, it could of course be better. But while we all speculate that they are on the brink of a financial collapse we don't actually know anything. I'm just saying...

It sounds like it is not a very common occurence to eat over one of the sister wives houses, even Janelle who she is supposedly so close to. The other thing I noticed was Kody hugging Robin at the new house and saying how beautiful she was, that must have pissed off the old three off to no end.

  60. Slightly off topic as it pertains to an older episode.

Watching the end of season 2 and it was the episode where they were "run out of Utah". The older kids are being interviewed and are nearly in tears about how scared they were that their dad would be taken away. Even the most genuine of their kids, Logan Madison Aspyn and Hunter.

However, I've read that most people do not believe they were actually forced to move but did it as a publicity stunt. So my question is, did they truly lie to their children about something like that? I realize this is purely speculation.

But if in fact they left as a publicity stunt, I find it hard to believe that all of their children would be that genuinely upset on camera (again the kids who seem the most genuine, and sincere when speaking of their feelings), if they knew the truth. I also find it absolutely reprehensible and deplorable that they would lie to their children about something so incredibly serious, such as their father possibly going to prison.

I have 5 children, with just 2 at home and they are not free to care for. Also, what will they do when Obama care starts fining people for not having insurance. With all of those children can you imagine. If they did go back ti UTAH I am sure another network would be knocking in their door to document them adjusting to a simpler way of life. It could go on for a very long time. I see them doing whatever they have to do to stay on TV to keep the money rolling in.

  63. Media investigated allegations that Kody was facing prosecution and discovered that the state of Utah does have laws against co-habitation; however, no one has been charged with that antiquated law in years. It's just still "on the books". There were no plans to charge him with anything. He fit no other criteria--his kids weren't being abused (forced to marry too young, etc) and his wife hadn't filed an adultery warrant (there is a law in Utah that deems adultery illegal; however, it's never charged unless a spouse chooses to sue her unfaithful spouse for it). That hasn't happened since 1996. The state would never decide to pursue such a charge on its own. The move was for the sake of drama....now isn't that a surprise!

Anyhow, do other reality shows run 6-12 months behind ‘real time’? Since TLC is just now showing the move from December 2012 in August 2013, does mean that TLC is losing interest? Are these normal delays? I think I have read the ratings are good, better than last year?

    1. I remember there was over a year (I believe) lapse between the filming of Real Housewives of New Jersey and the series premiere. I believe it was due to Dina's ex-husband finding out their daughter Lexie was filmed when he hadn't given his permission or something like that. Bravo couldn't broadcast the series until it had been worked out.

Other than that, I really don't remember any other reality show that has such a long wait from filming to broadcast. I also don't remember any other show that allows 25% of each episode to be flashbacks.

Sister Wives is a hot mess. And I think something is happening that we most likely won't find out about until somebody writes a tell all.

    2. Me too CPA Carol, as fun as the snarking is I would really miss it if they took sis wives off air. Polygamy USA is fun but they don't put those on demand here and its harder for me to see. I hate to admit it but I would actually miss the Browns. And then what would we have to gossip about in between time lol.

    3. That is my take as well, Cynical Jinx. I think the producers have even lost interest, thus the lack of more current filming. If the ratings are elevated right now, it could possibly only be because this is the interim between summer shows on major channels finishing their season and before the fall show premieres begin. Not a lot of other choices of new episodes of shows. Once the fall shows begin, I predict a plummet in the ratings for this show. Just how much attention can be focused on the floundering "joolry" business, packing and moving, and melt downs over moving time frames? They're losing me!

    4. It really seems like the Browns have thrown in the towel as far as trying to keep up the illusion of a happy plural family. They are so miserable it's just not as much fun to watch them anymore. The family we see now is just so far removed from what we were introduced to in season 1 that I bet even TLC is getting bored with them.

    5. So agree. The CONSTANT flashbacks are obnoxious. Why why why?! "Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if..." That line is from two years ago. Give it up already.

    6. Flash backs are so annoying I 100% agree about 10 minutes of every show is pure waste of my time. However the season premier this summer was the highest ratings TLC has had since December 2012. So I can almost guarantee there will be another season. So far in ratings this season has done pretty good. I don't think you can completely say it is only because of the time of year if it beat out ratings of honey boo boo and the like for the last 8 months.

      Delete
    7. I've noticed that every season seems to start later than the last. I thought it might be because of the ratings, they get an average of 1.9 million which is much lower than what Jon and Kate used to get, but I looked up "Honey Boo Boo" and the Duggars (Which run about 2 months behind real-time... some of the specials air only a few days after) and they get about the same viewership. So I have no clue.

Another thought is that the Browns really aren't that interesting, We're only 4 episodes into the season which started in September(?) and it's already Christmas.

  66. I sometimes wonder if that is why Hunter was sooooo angry when they moved. Maybe he found out he was lied to about why they had to move and resented his parents.

    1. Probably right! And at the same time he has Kody calling him a testosterone monster on tv...no wonder the poor kid was angry.

    2. Janelle seems to raise her children to think for themselves, as evidenced by her allowing them to choose their bedrooms in the new house. Hunter seems like a bright, grounded young man, and I think he could see through the bull pucky surrounding the "escape" from Utah. Being ripped away from his friends and life suddenly and for no real reason probably tee'd him off a little. Who can blame him?

  67. I'm with you CPA Carol, as much as I love the jokes made here, I actually really do enjoy watching this show and would be super bummed if they canceled it.

And totally agree Cynical Jinx, the real housewives shows have a good 6-9 month lag etc. Andy at Bravo has admitted that he'd like to shorten the filming to edit to air time, but it takes a while to form an episode/make it cohesive. But then again, a lot of viewers on those blogs think Bravo scripts stuff and thus, it takes them a while to edit the storyline/make it look like things happened that didn't.

  68. Is it just me but whenever Kody uses his "serious" explanatory voice when it comes about relationships, marriages, coordination he might as well be talking about dog breeding or landscape painting? He is clueless about what he's talking about & uses "fancy" words (for him) & he really has no idea what he is taking about!

  69. In the pic of the family watching the premier it looks like Christine is holding Sol, which is interesting because awhile back I think we were all talking about how Robyn never held Truely and seemed to almost recoil from her. Anyway I thought that was interesting if Christine is holding Sol.

  70. I think Christine loves all the children, and is the most "motherly" of the wives. Robyn doesn't seem that "loving" toward any of her own children, including King Sol. I think she considers him the "trophy" that gave her credibility in the family.

  71. I was thinking that many wives have "sister wives" - women their husbands bang, but they live in their own homes. We just call them mistresses.

Maybe, all this time, those horn dogs were actually earning us a place in their heavenly kingdom..

    This changes everything.

    2. OMG!! So for all these years, more than 23, that my husband has been true to me, and I've been true to him. Well, that means we are both going straight to Hell!

      Darn it! :(

    3. Hi Rose, No you are not going to hell. No one is. Enjoy your live and your marriage. Cheers.

    4. You forgot to mention that he fathers children by those mistresses. Where I'm from, we call that trash.

  72. Kody is reliving his life thru Hunter's wrestling.

    1. It is highly gratifying to see your offspring enjoy a sport you excelled in. Hunter shows real talent. I don't like Kody, but he was an athlete. He won the state wrestling meet. I know of no parent worth their salt, having achieved at that level, who wouldn't be thrilled and highly involved if their child showed promise.

    2. If Hunter would allow it, I would love to see a show where the family goes to one of his wrestling matches. I think he was ticked when they moved and I don't blame him for that as he had to leave his friends behind and that is hard. I don't blame him for shirking away from the cameras but maybe now he is ready to be seen doing something him and his father both love. Maybe it could be a guy's night out with all the boys going.

  73. So, now Mariah, Aspyn and Logan are all in college. They are all legally adults. We know that Logan pretty much thumbed his nose at the tv show. We only saw him in one shot when Aspyn went to tour UNLV. What I'm wondering is if Aspyn or Mariah will take a different approach and let the cameras roll on their college experience? Will someone need a TLC paycheck to deal with the cost of private college tuition? Will we see sofa confessionals with one of the girls narrating clips of her walking to class? Will we see her dorm room?

UNLV seems to ignore the show while Westminster is all tweeting about being mentioned on SW.

    1. Westminster probably needs the free advertising more than UNLV.

Anyone who appears on the show will have to sign a release. Given the notoriety the Browns have accrued, if my daughter was a roommate, I'd advise her to keep her face off the screen.

  74. Just a comment about production techniques. When watching the Little Couple this week I was struck by the fact that when they show "flashbacks" it is just the video - not the audio. The couple narrates over the old video what was going on and provides some context and offers new perspectives. With SW it seems the flashbacks are both video and audio - in other words complete reruns of what we have already seen. The original content in Little Couple, and 19 Kids and Counting even, is so much more than SW. It's mind boggling that given there are 5 adults in SW that they can't obtain more original footage. If the producers don't think we want to see their mundane day to day lives they are missing the point. That is precisely why we tuned in the first season - we want to see how they manage this three-ring-circus of a family going through all the normal routines of a family. By the way, I agree with the person who thought Kody might have ADHD. He sometimes reminds me of a jumping bean. For my next "drinking game" (aka chocolate eating game) I think I will pop a chocolate in my mouth everytime they show Kody entering a scene in a rush all breathless. I also had another thought about his constant inability to keep track of his personal belongings. Why not build a weather-proof storage shed (sort of a "my husband's closet") in one of the yards where he could keep all his stuff. That way he's have his own "space". On the other hand, maybe he just uses the trunk of his sportscar for that. Then again, there's also all the spare bedrooms at Meri's McMansion.

    1. They should have put in an outside entrance to the hubby room at Meri's. I think you enter it from the garage, or it looked that way on the floor plan, so that may be even better. He can store his midlife-crisis-mobile and various and sundry other toys in the three car garage Meri has all to herself, and have his Dude Den right there handy as well. Maybe he could get one of those cool stainless steel tool storage units to keep his blow dryer and hair products in?

    2. I adore The Little Couple - unlike the Browns they seem so genuine and I love little Will and how they dote so much on him. He's a very lucky child :) no snark required for that show!

    3. So I know I'm way behind most of you, but I have such mixed feelings about this family. For the most part I find them likeable, to various degrees. At the same time, they make me crazy! Their collective financial practices are so far out in left field. How do they sleep at night? And what are the odds that 5 grown-ass people with no sense of financial responsibility would marry each other? In Meri and Kody's bankruptcy their assets totaled squat. Christine's as well. YET, they continue to breed! In what world (planet?) is that a good idea? Also, why is it that Kody runs around telling anyone who will listen that he has four wives, yet when it's time to apply for state assistance they are single mothers? Huh? Pick one, people! And why has the state never garnished his wages for child support for all of those kids receiving state bennies? One more thing, while I'm ranting. Dear Browns, if you are able to finally afford some nicer things in life, good for you. If you can finally take your gazillion kids on a vacay to Disney, good for them. Personally, I think you should make some sort of restitution to the folks left high and dry in your bankruptcies, but whatever. What you don't seem to get is that you can't SHOW us that life is looking up for your family, and then whine about how tight your budget is, and how difficult it is to make ends meet, and how you need massssisssserwivvvesss closet to succeed so you can eat. It is one OR the other. Not both. Thanks.
I am starting to refer to this show as the cognitive-dissonance hour.
One more quick item regarding the houses. Does it look like maybe the grifters got grifted?

    4. Also, why is it that Kody runs around telling anyone who will listen that he has four wives, yet when it's time to apply for state assistance they are single mothers?

Excellent point, Malamon. Which is it? Why has Kody never paid child support for all the illegitimate children of his mistresses? Why has the state of Utah not prosecuted them for welfare fraud? If you apply for govt healthcare and food stamps, aren't you required to reveal your children's father? And then doesn't the state go after the father for child support?

    5. It must be the old saying...you can't get blood out of a turnip. Maybe they did look into Kody's finances and he didn't have a pot to pee in. So how could he give money to the kids when he had none himself. Pretty sad situation and no one took any financial responsibility and stopped having kids they couldn't afford. Now if the money from the show deposits into a company and they don't take it personally, then maybe they still get assistance. How would we even know?

    6. "And what are the odds that 5 grown-ass people with no sense of financial responsibility would marry each other?" ikr, you would think with those odds, there has to be someone among them to have some common sense! actually, I think Janelle could be the only to have any, but she can be easily overruled. like attracts like! i'm sure anyone with any kind of financial smarts would never be a part of that. so it does make sense to me why they all chose each other lol.

the grifters getting grifted - you know, I thought the same thing! this builder thought these people don't know quality from not - they will be out of these houses when the construction loan is up in 3 years, and he knows that. so he wasn't going to spend a lot of money on "nice" (expensive) construction. another reason why their choices were so limited to things you might essentially see in a model home. he knows he is going to have to sell those houses for real in three years, and he probably thinks that they would give him some kind of notoriety to sell them for a little more money. just my thoughts.

  75. Here's what I don't understand about Robyn's insistance that polygamous women get so much "free time" and freedom. She mentioned it again on "The Real". I'm sorry but they are essentially single moms. Single moms aren't known to have lots of free time. It's not the man being around that hogs up time, it's the kids. Having a spouse around every day frees you up more in my opinion. You have someone able and willing to watch the kids at a moments notice so you can do your "exercises" at home Robyn. Because I'm sorry, but we have seen you trying to manage your kids when no else is around, and it doesn't seem to me that you have time to "do your crafts" and exercise' alot.

    1. @Baylor...I couldn't agree more. I love my husband to death and wish he was around more, not less! He's my best buddy. Sure, he can take the kids, (who I also love) when I need a break, but it's even more fun when he has a day off while they are at school.

Free time? My kids are at school all day, my husband is at work all day (I work from home) I have enough quiet and free time in my life! Give me more time with my bff, not less!

  76. she is an idiot, im sorry..i went back and read this blog from the beginning, and these people have learned nothing. It dosnt matter how much they espouse their benefits of plural marriage, we have seen this family fall apart and the cracks show before our eyes. Thats why so much backtracking by janelle and christine, they cant blow the story line. Meri is the only one that never backtracks a word she says. Janelle and her family look amazing. There is a polygamy show on saturday im looking forward to watching. I would love to know more about the Brown and Sullivan and Allred backgrounds..the browns extended family..that would be interesting

    Malamom,

That is an interesting thought !
But most likely at the end of the day, if they do not make it to the 3 yr mark on a conventional loan, they will simply walk away.

And those four builder-grade faux mansions will probably be upgraded where needed for resale.
