MARTHA, 18 years old
Martha struggles with the desire to be accepted by the church and her family, but longs to start a new life where major life choiceslike whom or whether to marry aren't decided for her. She fantasizes about going to college, and possibly becoming a detective.
ANGIE, 21 years old
Outspoken and frustrated by seeing families torn apart within the FLDS community, she watches as her father and two brothers leave the FLDS. She's eager to start a new chapter of her life – including having control over who and when she is able to date.
LINDA, 22 years old
A member of one of the most connected families in the community – her step father is close to church leader Warren Jeffs, Linda has been well cared for and highly protected. However, she's been dreaming of leaving the FLDS to join her father and eight siblings who have already left. In addition, she would like to pursue dance and choreography.
VAL, 20 years old
Considered to be a "struggling" member of the community, Val has been disciplined for acting out before, and has been moved around the community to try and keep her under control. Her brother and father have been kicked out of the FLDS, and her strong will is setting her on a path to follow them.

We are more than interested in this show. good or bad, it will be interesting to see. If it does sensationalize like Breaking Amish, we will be the ones to expose it for sure! I am hoping for the best since Sam Brower was involved. Not all productions are the same...only time will tell!

Getting excited for next week's episode! More so to have my sister wives blog family back. we do have fun.
ReplyDeleteI REALLY hope they do this show justice. The Amish show angered me so much because I live in an Amish community. They are the most peaceful and kind people you will ever meet. No, I don't agree with shunning and some of the practices, but there's a few things we could learn from. In their community, you are taken care of, and you take care of your community. EVERYONE could learn from that. My biggest issue was that for such a long time, they would not put a orange sign on their buggies. They are hard to see at dusk and on curvy roads, it is dangerous. Sadly, many of the folks are killed in such accidents.
ReplyDeleteMy friend had a house built by the Amish. Every Saturday they were invited to go out and eat with them. she said you never saw such a spread of food and delicious.
The strangest thing that ever happened to me was one day my friend and I were enjoying a day off work and watching movies together. We were watching "Witness" with Harrison Ford and her Amish neighbors stopped by. They were GLUED to the TV and it was ... odd. I quickly went over and turned it off, but I can't imagine what they thought. Oh well, I'm done with my Amish story of the day! I do apologize for being slow here. I have some medical issues. Don't want to get into them, but it's a life long struggle and some times I just get where I can't do much.I thank all of you for your patience and your loyalty!
I applaud you for speaking out in favor of the Amish. I have never been around them so really didn't know much about the group. what else can you tell us about them?
DeleteMS, I know you suffer from multiple health problems, and want you to know, we all are here for you, and appreciate your efforts on the blog. i myself will be praying for you, and glad to see you back!
Thanks for your impressions of the Amish. You share the viewpoint that a friend of mine that lives in an Amish-heavy area shares also.
DeleteI was shocked to see that show Amish Justice or whatever it was called and also the Breaking Amish show. I'd love to know how those came about, but I tend to believe the people shown in those shows are in the minority rather than the majority.
Thanks for the bios and the link to the others. Looking forward to this show to see how real it is. I hope they do it justice and are honest.
I grew up in Lancaster County. When my family left, Amish people bought our farm. My dad worked with a bunch of Amish people throughout my childhood. I was just as upset as you were about the Breaking Amish show as well as Amish Mafia. Actually Amish Mafia infuriated me more. I appreciate you writing something about it.
DeleteSadly I know many people who know nothing about the Amish and they believe the TV shows 100%.
I hope you feel better. Sending lots of love your way!
MS,
ReplyDeleteHugs to you relief for your med issues. And gratitude for maintaining this Blog despite your personal struggles. Thank you.
I don't live in an Amish community but relatively near one. You are so right about their sense of family and dignity and community. That brutal shooting at the Amish school several years back was horrible, yet the devastated families of those child victims were so gracious, so authentically forgiving. They showed such grace and such civility in the midst of their terrible shock and sorrow.
It was an unforgettable lesson for all.
We will look over these bios and then get to the truth. Most or all were out long ago. I've also heard that they brought in Carolyn Jessop to "rescue" the kids. Another tidbit is that they were told to kiss the Jeff's picture and didn't want to. We will get to the truth! i've always found that presenting all sides of a story, the truth will come out.
ReplyDeleteAnd it always does!
DeleteI am sure we will all there is to know. I am going to watch the show. I HOPE they did a better job with this show. Why would Sam Brower be attached to something that was as bad as Breaking Amish? Surely he looked into it.
DeleteI might be wrong here, but I sense something. Seems like the blog is trying to give this show a chance, knowing much more. My guess is that the blog is waiting to give it a chance because Sam Brower is attached to it.
ReplyDeleteI give the blog kudos for not attacking the show before hand. Let us see for ourselves then hit us with what's really going on, but, I have to add one more thing.
Heaven help this show with the astute folks on here if it is fake and phony! Ha!
DeleteWe are trying to give it a chance, but the cracks are getting large. We will see!
Following the link, I noticed that Connie's hair looked like it had been dyed-surely a no no in the community. Glad to see the boys saying they were already out. Maybe an ounce of truth?
ReplyDeleteIt does look almost auburn at the roots.... hmmmm {chin scratch}
DeleteShocking to see that Val doesn't have her fake hairdo up in the pic.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that Flora Jessop's show comes up right after this one. That will lesson Kody and crew being able to say how their life is nothing like theirs. I could see them gaining credibility if it were like breaking amish.
I am missing a show being on anyways~!
As usual TLC leaves us empty. Thankfully, this blog will get to the real bios!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are back and hope you will continue to feel better.
ReplyDeleteSeason 4 of Sisterwives now on Netflix!!
ReplyDeleteI Think might be wise to remember that this religion is just not going to tolerate cameras running around willy nilly so not sure that people should expect it to be "authentic".
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteI think I'll not be buying into this show very much...if at all.
I do want to see a real "rescue"...maybe that'll come our way?
And...in the clips, they show a "safe house". That one confuses me.
Might just have to be resigned to the info as it comes. I think sometimes expectations are too high for reality tv.
ReplyDeleteIam sorry but this show looks like a flds version of breaking amish. Totally faked. Like they are reinacting past events. Lame.
ReplyDeleteI hope Mister Sister that you are recovering and feeling better. I really enjoy this blog! I dont have cable TV right now. I'm relying on everyone to let me know if this new show has any merrits or if it's total junk. I love checking the blog for new comments.
ReplyDeleteToday as I was searching the internet, I came across a bill introduced by Harry Reid in 2008 asking for a Dept. of Justice task force dealing with the crimes of polygamy. After a Judiciary Committee hearing featuring Gary Brower and many others, the bill died in committee-never reaching the Senate floor. Is Gary Brower related to Sam Brower?? Wonder just how much public exposure to the crimes of polygamy will be required before meaningful action is taken??
ReplyDeleteHello Mister Sister, I hope you feel 100% I appreciate your hard work that you do on this blog. I just saw a promo for this show last night as a matter of fact. I never knew about it before. Are these women still in the FLDS now as it goes to air? I can't imagine TLC putting this on, and having Sister Wives on at the same time, it's kind of hypercritical no? Maybe I'm missing something. Is Sister Wives coming back or is it done ? Does anyone know?
ReplyDeleteHello Pat and thank you!
ReplyDeleteI have heard from a very reliable source that all were out before the show. ONLY SEEN HERE - One gal is Flora Jessop's niece, another good friends with her sister Ruby. Two of the boys are Warren Jeffs brother Lyle's sons. Lyle Jeffs is the special counselor and brother to Warren Jeffs, and a bishop in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS Church) ANYONE COPYING THIS needs to source it to Sister Wives Blog.
Interesting!
DeleteI think it's also possible that one or both of Lyle Jeffs' sons on this show are also nephews of Elissa Wall and Rebecca Musser. Their older half-sister is Lyle's legal (and presumably first) wife.
DeleteOne of the Lyle Jeffs' boys said he is the son of Lyle's second and favorite wife on the show. I am curious about the real name of Lloyd Wall's first wife. Elissa calls her Audrey while Rebecca calls her Irene in their books. Both of them portray her as crazy with jealousy even though intellectually the idea of polygamy was an obvious commandment of Mormon literature.
DeleteI watched the first show last evening. Sadly, it seemed like a severely ADHD person did the editing. It was a collection of disjointed snippets that didn't tell a story. That's too bad because there's plenty of material and a real story to be told.
Wishing you wellness and peace! Wondering where Breaking was filmed? Even if scripted, the idea of tlc production crews running around CC is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the show has to be somewhat scripted....all of them do.....but I want to say that it must take alot of courage for these people to leave the religion. It might seem simple to the rest of us, but when you've been raised a certain way your entire life, the thought of breaking out on your own has to be frightening. I applaud them all for their courage and wish them the very best!
