I Scour the Internet: The TGIF Edition 10/12/2012

All this talk about Honey Betty Boopsie has really tired me out. But I gotta say, it took me a while to figure out why HBB looks so different at home than when she's performing at a pageant. She uses a flipper so the judges can't see she doesn't have her permanent front teeth yet.

Like, duh!!

Anyway, let's see what the Browns have been up to since the last time we met...

As I reported last week, it was Robyn's turn to accompany Kody on a LIV business trip to the lovely city of Mesa Arizona.

Not only did Robyn get to spend a lot of quality time with Kody,  it was also her birthday. Looks like Kody has made sure that Robyn carries on the Brown tradition of tweeting where they've eaten.

Wait a minute, according to Google Map, there isn't a street named Stanley in Mesa. Are you sure, Robyn?

Well, the name of the street is STAPLEY, and the business is Niki's Restaurant, but that's close enough I suppose.
Sol is also the basic monetary unit of Peru, worth about 100 centavos. Or, if Kody asked me to buy his plane fare back to Vegas, I would look at him and say "Kody, you are soooo SOL."

Awwww....isn't that nice. But isn't it strange for Robyn to mention her sister and not her sister wives? Hmmmmm.....

Let's see what's happening with Meri, shall we?

Good grief. What kind of tweet is this? And made exactly one month to premiere of the new season of Sister Wives? So what decision do you have to make? WE WANT TO KNOW!!!

Well, I guess we'll just have to wait until the show to find out for sure. In the meantime, it looks like Meri decided to heed my advice and work on her social skills by acknowledging fan tweets. When Stormin Steve tweeted some sound advice, Meri actually tweeted a response:
And to the fan who must have watched the old Mounds/Almond Joy commercial way too much, Meri tweeted her preference:

Yep, I'd go for the nuts, too! And for those of you out there who wondered where Meri placed in the 5K run a couple of weeks ago, Meri tweeted the scoop to her good friend, Rev. Danielle:

I suppose on the subject of running, Meri tweeted the following:
Call me cynical (Ms Jinx if you're nasty) but does this mean Meri's gonna wash that rascally Kody Brown right out of her hair and send him on his way?

Probably not, because earlier she tweeted this advice:

Then there's Kody, who only seems to tweet when it behooves him to tweet.

I wonder how many fans in the metropolitan Phoenix area actually flew out of their houses into their cars and drove all the way to Chandler for a chance to say "Hi". I wonder if Robyn brought samples of her jewelry with her to show off and take some orders! That's what Big Love's Margene would have done, and she didn't even have a sister to help her out. C'mon Robyn, step up and start hustling that jewelry, it's not going to sell itself, ya know!

Funny, from the way he ran out of Utah, I would think just the opposite!

And then we have Janelle. Sounds like she's got a crush on somebody!

That's OK Janelle. When you have the choice between fantasizing over Viggo or Kody....well, Viggo wins hands down every time!

Oh yes, I had to include this tweet from the Brown Family Trainer...you know, I think Sean is on to something...excuse me while I throw out my scales and look in the mirror!
You know, Christine rarely tweets, but when she does it's usually about her kids. Here's a cute shot of her girls:

And on the subject of kids, Christine's bonus child Mariah took this lovely picture of Christine doing what she does best, cooking!

I also found a couple of articles about Sister Wives and polygamy you may find interesting.

Talking with one of the Sister Wives

Hmmm.... the person who wrote this article about the UNLV event coming up must not be a regular viewer of the show (if she watched it at all). Also, you would think that she would at least have asked for the second wife's name at some point in the interview. How rude!

http://lasvegascitylife.com/sections/news/talking-one-sister-wives.html

Polygamy may be hot, but in marriage three's still a crowd

This was a better article, but it's sort of a dry read.

Extra! Extra! Extra! Extra! Extra!

Here's more pictures of Christine cooking:

Christine (pregnant with Truely) in her Utah kitchen

Christine in her Vegas kitchen

Well, that's all for now. And remember, I scour the internet, so you don't have to !!

  1. Christine looks to be cooking in an apartment. It could be a rental. White walls, cheap cabinets and a very basic stove.
    No McMansion?

    1. Christine is cooking on gas.. Las Vegas is electric in kitchens. This looks like her kitchen in Utah.

    2. I'm pretty sure that is her rental house. I have been re-watching episodes and it looks the same to me. So, no mcmansion yet!

    3. She's cooking in her Las Vegas rental. See the screen cap from Season 4 Ep 1 up above...

    4. I wish the pic was date stamped :) Then we would at least know about the current housing that Christine is living in.

    5. Man I'm jealous - I adore my rental pad, but one thing I wish it had was a gas stove. Mine is electric...

Her house looked big from the outside - that's an itty bitty kitchen for a house that size. I actually like the Utah kitchen better with the exception of the stove of course :)

    6. I love gas stoves too, DJ. I just noticed that Christine's kitchen is set up exactly like mine (except I have a microwave/range hood combo). It has the same dimensions, so you are right, it is extremely small...didn't she get one of the bigger rental homes? I noticed that she doesn't have a microwave range-hood combo thingy over her stove.

    7. CJ, I have a one-bedroom apt in a triplex (but i LOVE it - been living there for 15 years so far, great neighborhood, close to work and downtown...etc) and MY kitchen is bigger than Christine's Las Vegas kitchen! wow. one would think that since she's supposedly the main cook, she would have wanted a bigger-sized kitchen!

  2. She was still cooking in this little kitchen with the white gas stove on Oct 1. Mariah tweeted pic of Christine cooking on Oct 1. No McMansion for her yet.

  3. I wonder if Kody feels like a jack wagon for running around in other folks yards yet?
    Ignorance is bliss huh?

  4. Ok. Different subject. The tweet from Mariah, do you think she meant "mother bear" as like a nick name or "mother dear?". Surely, she didn't mean beer?

Also, I bet the big decision is her choice to turn down invitro once and for all. I'm kind of tired of the wishy, washy side of it.

    1. Was there really ever any decision to be made on that??
Or was that whole premise just cooked up and agreed upon by the "actors" as a post-birth bridge to new ratings once the much filmed pregnancy and birth was done and dusted. They needed something to keep the ratings blazing.

Have to laugh remembering Robin's tearful, mysterious shooing of Kody and family out of the birthing room for her oh, so important and *private* chat with Meri.
*Private* except for the presence of the camera and sound guys, ready to call "action."

    2. The big decision is going to be whether or not she chooses employment at McDonald's or Taco Bell when the show gets cancelled and her 15 minutes is up.

  5. Totally not relevant but someone(s) mentioned the Moroni Jessop blog in comments on an earlier entry. I've been reading through it and in 2010 he mentions that Mariah filled in for him at the Utah State Fair (it seems that he does airbrushing). I've never been a Mariah fan but for some reason this makes me like her a little more.

  7. So while looking at the picture of Christine in her Utah kitchen and Vegas kitchen, it's crazy that everything is identical except for the color of the cabinets. Mind = blow.

    1. The Utah kitchen was larger and had twice the counter space. Without a ventilation hood above the stove she must have stunk up the whole house when she panfried meats though. But why would a city like Las Vegas outlaw the use of natural gas in kitchens? That doesnt make sense to me and since shes using a gas stove it must not be true.

    2. Thanks anon #2, I was just looking at the pics but appreciate the extra info!!

    3. Anon 4:55 - LV does NOT outlaw the use of gas ovens or stoves.

Just out of curiosity after reading LauraLeigh's comment - I went on Realtor.com and looked up houses for sale in LV. the 10 home listings I looked at (different ages and price ranges) - 9 of them advertised gas ranges. as well as gas fireplaces.

I think that LV is a lot of different developments/communities, maybe some of the developments opted for the homes to be all-electric and LL lives in one of those developments. I also think that the perception is that electric stoves are cheaper to purchase, install, and maintain than gas, since you basically just plug them in. Perhaps the lower-end houses and rental properties have electric stoves and the higher end ones have gas. I know that if I was going to buy a house, one of my main considerations would be the kitchen and a gas oven would be a must-have. like I said, I love my little pad but if there was one thing I would change, it would be the stove, if I could change it to gas, I would in a heartbeat!

      Delete
    4. Im a vegas native....never had anything but gas stove. Except for the year i lived in utah, actually. And HATED electric!

      Delete
    5. With so many people into gourmet kitchens, I would think having a gas stove (or the ability to have a gas stove) would be a necessity. But like DJ said above, if the development was all electric then having gas would not be an option I suppose. Funny, my complex is all electric except for the bbq's down by the pool. Those are gas!

    6. CJ I'm getting ready to repaint my kitchen in the next couple weeks - lived here for 15 years, but never moved the stove (I shudder to think of what I am going to find there). Kind of hoping I discover a gas hookup...ya then I can try and convince my 93 year old landlord to go halfsies on a gas stove...dream on. My pad was built in 1960 btw.

  8. I think it is really interesting that Janelle tweeted about her thoughts on Viggo. I mean I assume it was said in a joking way, but still there is a grain of truth there. Are Mormon women supposed to admit to those kinds of thoughts about someone other than their husband?

I don't blame her one little bit; just pointing out that perhaps the "saintly" facade is crumbling in KodyWorld.

    1. I want to start by saying that my statements are in no way to pigeon hole or stereotype Mormom behavior but I'm making generalizations just based on my own observations and from my experience being raised in the Church for part of my childhood.

I find your observation interesting, Paw Print. In my opinion I have seen very little behavior of Kody's Krew to resemble that of any of the Mormoms I have known through the years. I know each family will be different but some common themes I would see are the dedication to family, pride in taking care of one's OWN family, hard work, and dedication to taking care of those in their community. When you have, you give, and do so generously. GIVE, not take..Not constantly have your hand out whining you are being persecuted and deserving of better...Your church family and community are also very important. According to a post I read here someone said that Meri felt she was being punished for not having more kids and how she "deserved" a big house...That just doesn't sound at all like the generosity and loving lessons that are taught in their religion. Yes, we are all humans and have material wants and needs but it seem like this crew just wants to take take take and not work for it...Again, every person and family will be different but with the exception of maybe Christine, none of these guys behaviors resemble that of any Mormon's I have known.

This led me to another random thought concerning Mormons--Tithing.

I wonder if part of the reason they fled Utah was because if they stayed, they would be compelled to tithe. They did not want to tithe now, nor from their future earnings from their business endeavors. (Of course they were assuming those would be successful).. I have no clue if their sect tithes or not but it would seem necessary to keep things like the schools operating. With Kody's temporary increase in income, I think it would become very obvious if this family was tithing the usual 10%. I'm sure no one keeps track, per se, but if you knew that members had major increases in income, the church would be keeping their eyes out I'm sure.

      Delete
    2. Since they are not Mormon, I don't know what their own brand of religion commands regarding tithing. Sure, the argument is that they are the true Mormons but the actuality is that in this world in this time they are not considered to be so. Perhaps someone knows what the AUB commands; Kody seems to be the minister of his own little private sect, however. Maybe he contributes to himself.

    3. WhenPlygsFly,

Thank you for your input about hands-on Mormon experience. I really appreciate hearing from someone who has been there. This blog has been a teaching tool for many of us who were not satisfied or trusting in seeing "the religion" according to the gospel of KodyWorld. Your thoughts are very helpful.

Your suggestion about the Browns possibly leaving Utah in order to avoid the usual tithing is intriguing and does make sense. These people do not seem to have a *community service* mentality, either by honoring their community citizenship, or inspired by their religious doctrines.

The Browns seem to only make an effort at community awareness when it is advantageous to their image.
Meri's recent Walk just smacks of such a motivation, and no doubt will be a highlight for the coming season. It's always all about what benefits them.

    4. You have a good point, Border Collie about how they are not considered true Mormons so it's hard to know what they do in that respect.

Thank you, Amused. I don't claim to have tons of new insight but do have a tad bit of personal experience to bring to the table and there are so many things about this family that just doesn't jibe.

In the post below, Anony 6:29 brought up the point about them not living in the same house. I think that is another major point in how that doesn't buy them any points in the "harmononious, loving, religious, tight knit" family department. You see them trying to be further apart, not closer together. I'm rather surprised that they haven't been trying to figure out how to live in one building together..At the very least, a loving wife (Meri) wouldn't be worried about wasting all of that money on her having her own space (when her daughter should be leaving home soon) but instead be thinking of the good of the family and be moving in with another one of the wives to help them.

    5. WhenPlygsFly, (and I do LOVE your name)

Your last sentence is really "IT"..is really the elephant in the room.
There is the rub, the thing that just doesn't add up.

*They don't like each other enough to share space. They speak the principle to gain money, fame and hand-outs, but they don't live it.*

Loving family, supporting family, caring family...one for all and all for one. Not !!!

    6. well technically, they're AUB, but in reality, I think Kody cherry-picks what parts he wants to practice (i.e. the fun/most condusive to his own wants/needs) and leaves the rest. He more than likely did that when he was LDS as well.

And there MUST be tithing, to support organizations like the Plyg School that the kids were attending in the first season or 2. how else would they pay for it?

    7. I've been rewatching the show (over and over, actually, not sure what's wrong with me) and I noticed that in Season 2, Episode 5, when Kody and Christine are having dinner at their hotel in Vegas, there are wine glasses on the table. Kody is drinking something that looks like very pale red wine and Christine has a champagne flute with something bubbly and vaguely yellow in it in front of her. Make of that what you will. Maybe they only abstain from alcohol when Kody's big brother is in town, maybe they're having something non-alcoholic in wine glasses.
I took some screen-grabs, if you'd like them, I can send it to CJ or somebody.

    8. Thanks Amused...and thanks for the compliment on my name..:)....I would sometimes wonder if anyone else would see some of these things. For me, that is huge...I don't consider what they have as a real loving family, let alone a good example of the "love multiplying" in this polygamous lifestyle. Yes, there are going to be problems and I don't expect them to be perfect but nothing they do is an indication of a group of people coming together (and making emotional and material sacrifices) to bring up this loving family.

I think I saw the scene you are talking about bored_now. I'm sure they would say it was non-alcoholic but I wonder??? I thought I read some where here that Meri wanted the big house with a wet bar in it? Why in the world would she want a wet bar if she doesn't drink...I guess I could see it back in their home town if they had tons of their mormon friends over..might be fun...You could serve non-alcoholic drinks from it...but in Vegas where it doesn't sound like they are connected in a church family..The folks they will have over (if any) for entertainment purposes would probably expect something with a kick to come out of a wet bar..LOL ;)...

DakotaJustice..I totally agree. He must be cherry-picking what parts he wants to practice. How else could he get away with not taking care of his family. If he'd be following his religion, he'd be working 2 jobs or as much as it took to take care of his children (and not grifting jobs or MLM schemes) and he'd spend every extra moment with these kids and wives not constantly worrying about the next mini-vacation or much "deserved" break...Oh give me a BREAK!..

Ok..I better go read the new thread..I love this blog!!

  10. I think this show will be on one more season and that's it. I watched from the beginning, after season 2 it was IMO boring, and reaching for material to have a show. It's not interesting enough to hold the attention of millions. I've also noticed a lot of new shows on TLC, they can't keep all the exsisting one's and keep getting new ones too. They cancelled Kate plus eight, for 2 reasons, one it was getting stupid with no Jon, and two, there was too much public backlash. Same with SW. They don't live in one house, and people are taking them to task too much with every little move they make, recipe for cancellation.

    1. Anon at 6:29 pm: Why do you feel that people are taking them to task too much?

I feel that when a family or individual publicly puts themselves out there they open their lives up to those critcisms, especially concerning the things that are covered in a TV show or interviews.

Obviously it's just my opinion, but if you're going to show yourself doing things like leaving on the sly to live in Las Vegas after cooking up a big conspiracy theory about the cops coming to split up your family at any time, that's open to criticism.

If you show yourself in a gym attempting to get fit and then not following through, then that's open IMO. Don't tell me you want to get fit and lose weight and then eat things like Mock Tapioca which is full of sugar and Peanut Butter Fritos which who knows if we have space to list all that's wrong with those!

If you can point out specifics that people criticize them for that haven't been put out for public consumption, I'd be interested in knowing that. Thanks and I'm sorry that I don't agree with you.

Sounds like things are going exactly in the direction would would expect. I can't believe that in about a year's time, they haven't been able to produce their "much awaited" T-shirt line--or at least figured out a more convincing excuse for their highway robbery shipping/handling charges. Still nauseating.

  12. Are there any interviews with them that discuss their financial history? I am just wondering if anyone has ever asked them about their bankruptcy. I am all for religious freedom, but not when it involves having an insane amount of kids that the state has to pay for. I am not religious but I am of the mind that God would be more happy if his "children" here on earth were helping those in need instead of breeding like rabbits when they don't have two pennies to rub together. If they are serving God by having all these kids then why isn't God paying their bills?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yup, people are calling Shenanigans on their BS. No one is buying what they are trying to force feed us. 15. I think what Meri tweets and ‘retweets’ are her little ways to ‘speak’ to Kody via twitter. Of course, Kody really isn’t twitter savvy but I suppose he can read and he might read what Meri tweets. Some of her recent ‘original’ tweets: Cool Utah fall evenings like this one bring back such good memories... Hmm, decisions, decisions. Serious life changing ones, bigger than I've ever had to make in the past. ….What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I am independent! I am strong! I am me! That's all I need! Waking up at 2:30 & not able 2 sleep is for the birds! Did my 5 mile walk/run, maybe now I can sleep a couple hrs before day really starts! …and now for some of her ‘retweets” mostly from ‘Appreciate Gratitude” (which I find very telling!): Don't allow your wounds to transform you into someone you are not. P Coelho …Don’t criticize others for their flaws... if you are not willing to recognize your own. …It takes a heart to forgive and strength to move on. …Learning to ignore things and people that give you stress is one of the great paths to inner peace and to a happier life.
So what do these tweets tell us that Meri is trying to tell Kody. She seems to be threatening that she sure does miss Utah and she has some ‘serious’ changes and decisions to make and she is INDEPENDENT and gosh, by the way, Kody see how hard I am working out and trying to be more attractive to you? And then her little retweets are kind of lecturing, maybe to the sisterwives, maybe to Kody. Alert to Meri: if you are tweeting all these things so that Kody will sit up and take notice….well, you might as well just stop tweeting, Kody is not emotionally available to you nor is he to the other wives. In fact, you, Meri have it the best of the lot. And shame on you for all the pain you selfishly inflict on your sisterwives because you honestly cannot handle Kody loving anyone but you.
Anyone read these tweets see a truly happy Meri? This makes her better how again? And if you are doing this to create ratings magic, Meri, not gonna happen. We all understand what your ‘family’ is about and we aren’t seeing the benefits of your lifestyle!

  16. Jumped the shark? Yes, yes, yes. What I don't understand is why Kody and Krew don't share details about the lawsuit that they are pushing (with a famous lawyer as their lead counsel) right now, which makes Kody the Father of Poly Marriage if the suit successfully overturns Utah's criminal statute against multi-marriage as being unconstitutional.

Other that moving from Utah to Vegas to escape "persecution" -- and who among us really thinks that Kody Brown was about to be arrested? -- there's not much air time given to the lawsuit. And it is the Brown's suit now...the state attorney moved to dismiss the action and Brown's lawyer successfully stopped it from ending so the Browns' constitutional claims could be decided.

Of course, if they win that suit, then I suppose Kody can make money on the lecture circuit.

Is this what they are betting on? Because I'm not seeing the jewelry line or juice drink businesses covering those 4 houses ....

    1. They are AUB (Apostolic United Brethren). If you google there is some info on it, as well as throughout this blog. Their faith is that God also gave them "another testament of Jesus Christ"...the Book of Mormon. Mormons (and presumably offshoots like AUB, FLDS) are taught that the Bible is great but has flaws and any discrepancies should err towards the side of BOM..not Bible.

The BOM 'endorses' polygamy, Joseph Smith practiced polygamy. So in the eyes of KBF, they are living as their religion intended them to.

(Just explaining, not defending them. Personally I think it is all a bunch of hogwash)

If Mary was in Utah on Sunday then she had to burn up the roads to get back in time for the forum. Or is she digging in her heels and refusing to go along with the crowd? Did anyone attend or have access to information about the gathering. Just wondering and too lazy to drive the 25 minutes across town to attend myself. I'm afraid if given the opportunity to actually ask that Krew some serious questions, Kody's head might explode!
