UPDATE!!! I Scour the Internet: The Post Talk Like a Pirate Day Edition 9/20/12

Wow, what a month it has been.

T' Browns were all off doin' their own thin's. Meri handlin' her duties as chief executive recruitin' officer o' their MLM green drink empire. Janelle enjoyin' her time at home with her sprogs. Robyn takin' care o' t' Sister Buxom Beauty Closet business. Kody doin' whatever it be he does (I'm aye we will see him doin' it when t' show resumes on November 11th). And Christine, just bein' Christine.

So let's take a look at some recent tweets from our 'favorite' family o' polygamists t' their fans!

Hmmm...Looks like Robyn's in a funky mood again. Ahoy!, what's up beauty? (cough cough)

Whoa thar. Be that anyway for a sister buxom beauty t' talk, especially when you have three other sisterbuxom beautys that are s'posed t' be your buckos - not t' mention your bestie Meri who you were willin' t' rent your womb out for, almost a year ago!"

Aye, I think Robyn's gettin' tired o' sharin' and wants a pirate o' her own now.

Ahoy! thar Kody, why haven't you been takin' care o' Robyn? She's soundin' kind o' low, you know....

Aha! It's makin' sense now. Kody be hobnobbin' with t' Big Boss and buxom beauty Meri. No wonder Robyn's been feelin' blue! She should try drinkin' that green stuff!

See what I mean? Meri knows what I be talkin' about. Did you see how she also made aye her Big Boss was copied on that tweet? Great way t' influence t' Boss Man.  I bet Meri's McMansion wetbar will be filled with bottles o' that green drink!

Stop your snivelin' and get with t' program, Robyn!

O' course Kody just has t' get t' last word in...good use o' t' word 'lover' but tell me Kody, do you tweet about your other 3 wives t' your LIV boss or be Meri t' only one drinkin' t' green kool-aid?

But wait, why be Meri tweetin' about me Sister buxom beauty's Closet? Isn't that Robyn's baby? (Besides Sol, o' course.)

Honestly Meri, who hasn't seen this 'claddagh charm holder'. For $82, I'd rather spend me doubloons on REAL jewelry. I guess t' price includes t' box, too. How awful that t' price does not include t' 3 individual charms, which costs a total o' $258.00. You'd have t' be a pirate t' afford those trinkets!

Aye, on this note I'm off t' look for me own pirate t' spend some doubloons on and hang out on a deserted island without a care in t' world.... Until next time, remember that I Scour t' Internet, so you don't have to!

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

Arggggh! I don't usually update me I Scours, but  I checked out Robyn's  tweets today and she has two new gems that I just have t' share with everyone.

Who o' ye thinks a certain person (her name starts with R and ends with N) has been readin' a certain Blog this week and tweeted her response t' her fans? Now don't ye hurt yourselves raisin' those hands!

And we have this wonderful gem from t' same sister buxom beauty...

Isn't it comforting to know that polygamy 'done the right way' not only gave Robyn a wonderful life, but that she wishes she could cheer on her sisterwife Meri in person? I wonder where IS Kody?  So even though it would make for good TV if Robyn left Kody to babysit Sol et al in order  to cheer on Meri in her 5K run, I just can't see Robyn giving up her one niter with Kody for a charitable cause. Hey Robyn, how about showing your support by donating some of your no doubt immense proceeds from My Sister Wife's Closet to help out those victims and tweeting for others to follow your example? You don't have to give a lot, just enough to show you really care....

ANOTHER UPDATE ... ANOTHER UPDATE  9/22/12

Sltrib.com has an interesting article about the 5K run that featured Meri Brown and Elissa Wall (who escaped from polygamy and testified against Warren Jeffs) as participents. There's even a flattering picture of Meri and of Elissa (click on the picture to see the photo gallery for the article). Please take a few minutes to check it out (the comments are interesting, too). I'm interested to hear what your thoughts are!

  1. LOL!so Robyn is getting a taste of Meri's "Kodi is mine, baby or not"!

I guess it's finally sinking in that the honeymoon is over!

face it, thou Meri only have 1 child, she is the Queen Bee of brown family .... the rest are worker Bees (popping kids)! LOL!

  2. So has Christine's computer blown up in the style of a toaster? Not had a peep from her for awhile. Then again it could be down to me being totally clueless when it comes to Twitter!

  3. Yep, Meri's got Kody's ear, his heart and his time ... Again. That explains why she seems so happy these days. Robyn's feeling lonely, and the other two have learned to cope. Why oh why are these two plygs?

  4. Calling someone "lover" going on trip paid by TLC is one thing. Proving love every day is something kody doesn't seem to do with anyone in family wives or children. Kody acts more afraid of meri then in love. Kody loves one person himself.

  5. I would love to know what "best friend" Robyn was talking about???

  7. That is absolutely the ugliest necklace ever. I'd never be a sister wife, but calling Meri "lover" like he does would kill me if I were Janelle, Christine, or Robyn. That man is a total a-hole.

    1. Oh come on.....a plain, simple circle make of some cheap alloy does not make a signature piece of jewelry.
Geez, get over your selves and stop the BS !!

Would love to see the "actual" sales figures from that trade show where "this" was a favorite.

Browns, if you are going to "tweet" about your huckstering...at least be honest.

    2. Sterling silver by definition *is* an alloy of 92% silver and the rest...copper or whatever. I think the current price per ounce is $29.00 or thereabouts, so you can see what a big markup is really on this overpriced ugly stuff.

Not an attractive photo of Kody, he looks like a blond Oompa-Loompa.

  10. Neat Pirate theme. Guess Robin is finding out who holds the bounty in the family. Meri is and will always be number one. I'm guessing to even the score a bit Robin and maybe Christine will have a couple more to add to their brood.

But really, I think it's time Robin get a taste of her own medicine!
I have not forgotten how she used to be Kody's talk person - how she will talk for whole family while the other three looked on!

and how she will hang on him as if she was missing one leg!!

I guess reality is sinking in - you share a man, only see him once in a while. at least when there were three wives they had advantage of seeing him every day!

  12. I feel for Meri - after watching the finale of last season. how it must have been to live with these 2 women who rubbed their fertility in her face everytime they got! to the point where Christine tells Meri "I hope you don't get pregant"!!

no wonder Meri went with Kody in regard to adding Robin. People are wrong in thinking she got all these women for Kody. Janelle was her sister in law, next thing she up and marries Kody. I think Kodi went on his own there. Christine by her own admission fell in love with Kody and she sought him out. Kody went on his own there - marrying FLDS royality.

so Meri is guilty of helping Kody recruite only one woman. Robin - and she soon regretted it when Robyn became glued to Kody!

    IMHO

    2. Anonymous@ 9:04AM:

I find it rather surprising that you feel for Meri. I wouldn't really say that the other wives have "rubbed their fertility in her face". In fact if anything, Meri is keeping it on the front burner with all this should I, shouldn't I stuff as far as allowing Robyn to carry a baby for her.

I could be wrong since I don't know everything about this family and I may have missed it, but I don't think any type of significant fertility treatment or even testing has gone on with Meri. So really who knows why she can't seem to carry a child. There could be many reasons and it may not necessarily have to do with something that could be taken care of by having Robyn carry a baby. Maybe there is something wrong with the quality of her eggs or maybe she doesn't ovulate as often as she should. Who knows.

But IMHO Meri brought on herself any attitude she gets from the other sister wives. She is rude to them, belittling them and wanting all the best of everything for herself. Instead of taking all these trips with Kody, if she were being a "true" sister wife, wouldn't she say something like "Kody, Christine hasn't gone anywhere for a long time with you, why don't you take her and I'll stay home and take care of Christine's children?" She doesn't do that though. She wants everything for herself and her daughter and she wants it to be the best of everything.

I'm surprised quite frankly, that the other wives can even bring themselves to be in the same room as Meri. She's like your BFF that sleeps with your boyfriend behind your back and then tells everyone you're a slut.

  14. The family is pretty conisistant in the plugs and promotions of products.
If they honestly have set out on the TLC journey to bring awareness to discrimation against polygamists then they have veered way off course IMO.
The idea that I get from looking into the practice of polygamy is that the family is too large to support itself, just as many anti polgamists have stated. The promotions of their overpriced baubles and green drinks tell me a story of a family that is in dire need of money.
I guess that in defense one could say that the family is so discriminated against that they will not be able to be hired now that they are known. Which might be true now. But the fact that some of the family has a set record of not contibuting to finances seems to nullify that idea.
I would advise the family to stop peddling its wares so hard core to their fans before the c list fame that they are experiencing wears off. They really should focus on a way to make money that does not included marketing to fans for when the fan base wanes off.

    1. I totally agree! "Green drink" is never going to take off and become amazingly successful; MLMs are doomed from the start. And the jewelry line is not going to be able to sustain that family for long. I'm certain those who wanted it (and were willing to pay those prices) have already bought it. It's not jewelry you can just give to anyone. My mother would be offended if I gave her polygamist-themed jewelry as a gift, lol.

I really don't understand why none of them have gone to get a basic child care certification; they are clearly capable of taking care of large numbers of children and it would add income to what they are doing anyway. Or why not take some of that Disneyland money and put it toward some education? NONE of the adults are too old to return to school and pursue a career in healthcare, or *gasp* BUSINESS, or whatever they like! Or course knowing this bunch, King Kody would be the only one to go back to school and would get a degree in underwater basket-weaving or pursuing college-aged wives. Since reading is not really "his thing" I'm sure it would be a huge waste.

      Delete
    2. Right on! Every day that they are alive is another day that they can make their situations better. I get why a polygamist family may choose to defend their personal rights but if that was the idea, it all has became sort of a trainwreck as the amount of work it would take for any family to have TLC airing the dynamics of a family is multiplied with each wife and the Brown's need a solid way out because IMO they are in over their heads. There is no reason that every adult is not able to get some sort of job training. Get back to basics folks! Get skills, get a job and work it until you retire. That is what is the norm. If we are to be shown that polygamists are like normal families, why are they not demonstrating that normal choice for themselves?

      Delete
    3. Job training...?

Maybe Janelle...or Meri. But I don't think that Christine, Robyn, or Kody are motivated, have ever BEEN motivated, to train for a real 9 to 5 job. IMO Janelle doing the real estate test was just for the show, and would be a waste of time otherwise. She doesn't have the outgoing personality required to be a realtor.

Kody is just looking for an easy way to make a buck. that's what draws people to MLMs to begin with, unless they truly like the product and want to buy it at a discount (I joined an MLM a few years ago to get a better price on a certain product...let it lapse after the time was up...it was a nutritional product but not a "green drink").

MLMs generally are promoted as "easy money" without working a "real job". I doubt that YESCO (Kody's former employer) cried a river when he left - I've said this before, that IMO he was probably not a stellar employee and they were glad to have him out of there...notice they've never made a public statement?

Kody IMO has always struck me as a shiftless person who has wanted to do as little as he possibly has to in order to get by. "God will provide" - ummm no...God gives us brains so we can provide for ourselves. We aren't animals living on instinct.

  16. I wonder how Janelle is doing with her real estate career. I would like to see the other 3 women take some kind of classes in the health care field so they can have future careers when the TLC money comes to an end. They could work different shifts so they have someone to watch the younger children. Meri has no excuse to not be taking classes so she can get a well paying job to help out with their finances. Christine would benefit greatly by working out of the home and making friendships with women who are not sister wives. Her self confidence would increase because I think she would be well liked as a CNA or any other career she chooses. Now is the perfect time for them to think about their futures and use the TLC money and invest in becoming career women.

"If done the right way, plural marriage should give choices not take them away. I know it gave my kids and I a wonderful life and family."

Really, Robin, really ????!!! Choices ??? Choices???
The only choices which are evident at this point are whether you or someone else gets the bigger house with the "craft room" or wine bar !! And...perhaps which one is expected to have the next baby.
Your children DO NOT get choices....not do the other three wives' children.

The only person who gets "choices" is Lord Kody as he decides which wife he beds (or not) on any given night.

And pray tell, what exactly does " "If done the right way" mean !!!???

Do you mean if each wife pays her own way via welfare and bankruptcy? ?
If each wife signs on to front one phony business after another ??
If each wife lets Kody offer his "family" up as a TV sideshow ??

And let us be really *real* here, since obviously you do read SWB.
It is quite understandable that you sing the praises of plural marriage because when you came on the Brown scene, you were in dire need of a rescue, whatever form that happened to be. You were a divorced, single mom of three, with no viable means of support. Of course, you will promote it and hope it all works out.
    What "choice" do you have.......??

Frankly, for your children's sake, I hope it does.

  18. Meri has the top spot. Jenelle is the worker and "brains" of the crowd. Christine had Robin's spot--the fun wife. Christine was SO hurt that Kody went for Robin, and for good reason.

I think Robin is a one-man woman. Kody made her feel so special at first. They had secrets, he was super-affectionate, and she felt he loved her differently, which was enough at the time to make the leap. But she is young and beautiful, and I think if and when she starts to see herself as just one of the crowd, she will be miserable. I do think Robin was for Kody's ego. She's almost the trophy-wife of the four. He gets to keep the older wives that he has the history with AND have the trophy wife.

I guess I see the other three as settling. And I don't think Robin deserves to be the caboose on this train.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Well not to be mean and I certainly don't mean it that way, but Robyn being "beautiful" "young" and the "trophy wife" is all relative. Compared to the others, I guess some would think that ... I just describe her as the "newest" and leave it at that.

  20. This is one polyg. family who definately does not work together. They all do their own thing each in their own little worlds. Even when reading the sad story of Elissa Wall the one thing that I found fairly positive is the spirit of community and wives working together. With the Brown's it's 4 individual women, living their own lives sharing one man, seems sad....seems even sadder that it's Kody...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Can polygamy be done right? Depends on if a man or a woman is giving the answer.

Marriage is the very foundation of society because of its civilizing influences, Rabbi Shmuley says. "Marriage takes a man and a woman who are strangers to each other, orchestrates them together into inseparable flesh and lends children a stable and secure environment within which to be raised," Rabbi Shmuley says.

But when husbands have multiple wives, the wife no longer feels adequate enough because she alone does not satisfy him. Instead, she is forced to compete for her husband's affections. Rabbi Shmuley says polygamy also disrupts the friendships that are formed among women, who are often vying to win the attention of the same man.

In addition, polygamy negatively affects children, Rabbi Shmuley says. "[It] offers children a model not of security but of rivalry, not of confidence but of permanent insecurity, as the members of a single household compete to be favorites," he says. "It is a toxic environment in which men are kings and women are courtiers."

  24. Hi everybody!

There's an article about the Holding Out Help 5K run held today. Click on the link (located above) to read the article on sltrib.com.

Many thanks to PlygSchmyg for the heads up!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Okay, I did read the article and a couple of things stood out.
First the article repeats the myth of the Browns emergency exodus from Lehi to escape impending prosecution. Apparently KodyWorld is willing to continue to play that card despite all indications that it was and is * BS.*

It also stated that there were no TV cameras nor "fanfare" or speeches. Tweeting in advance "to fans" by several Browns does suggest a bit of fanfare. As for the lack of TV cameras, that decision may have been made by TLC or by the promoters of the event?? I seriously doubt Meri herself would have not welcomed being filmed.

I found the statement "Brown finds no comfort in her celebrity status and ignores naysayers who question her motives" interesting. Yet another confirmation that the Browns are reading SWB.

There were some poignant comments following the article.
(don't know if posting quotes from another blog is allowed, if not.. sorry, please delete)

"Sadly, Meri Brown's appearance is more about the shameless self promotion and self justification of a fame seeking woman than it is about freeing women from the tyranny of polygamy.
An Apostolic United Brethren (AUB) polygamist in support of people leaving the FLDS is just about as impressive as a Blood gang member criticizing a Crip gang member for being a criminal."

    This one was particularly compelling....
"The abuses of Warren Jeffs' polygamy are obvious, but there are all kinds of abuse in polygamy - including the emotional abuse of women who may paste on smiles, but are living polygamy only because they have been taught that they must live it or go to hell."

    1. I see Meri's actions as standing at the finish line with a big grin and a huge sign that read "Polygamy is Okay if done the Right Way" as Elisa Walls, who obviously was a victim of the "Wrong Way" and every other victim crosses the finish line. I have a feeling this was simply a PR stunt...her attendance does little to eradiate or even mitigate the horrors of the Wrong Way of polygamy.

What I find troubling, is that there are a lot of 'Sorry Charlies' in this world that are influenced by a show like Sister Wives to think that polygamy is OK because it sends this message to think love "is not divided but multiplied" in a polygamous setting. So I fail to see how Meri's attendance does any long term good to help the Holding Out Help organization, outside of the momentary flash of publicity to their cause.

      Delete
    2. CJ I agree. I read the article, and the comments (as of late yesterday). I think that there were MANY 5ks that Meri could have run in...but she chose this one because of the obvious publicity value. and I'm betting that there were TV cameras there. Not the news...Figure 8 Films. Maybe they used small handheld camcorders to keep everything looking "normal".

and YUP - I did notice that she played the "escape from Utah persecution" card. or at least the article did. If they were TRULY afraid of being persecuted, then Kody and the wives would not be setting foot in the state, or at least not tweeting about it constantly. But they do...

      Delete
    3. "Sorry Charlies" is a good term for it.
I agree that Meri's presence at such an event was a strange distraction/dichotomy from the seriousness of the Holding Out Help mission. It's likely they would have gotten PR for that cause even without Meri Brown basking in the limelight.

The concept that Polygamy is great as long as it is done "the right way" is insulting to all those oppressed women who were unlucky to be trapped in the "wrong" version.

And what is "right" about four women, driven, desperate-for-an identity Meri and Robin, or overweight and/or depressed Janelle and Christine, all vying with each other for exclusive scraps of attention and affection from one self-absorbed, lazy man?
SisterWives show has displayed that piece quite clearly. It surely doesn't come off as "right."

      Delete
  26. I think the reason polygamy works so well for Kody is that his sexuality is antithetical to his culture. When the one show had some of his friends from high school, one of the girls said she always thought Kody was gay. When one looks at him and sees how he is the one in the relationships that is being touched and not the other way around, you have to wonder. They hold his arm, and he shoves his hands in his pockets. They put their hands on him and he puts his arms on the sofa back. It is rare that you actually see him touching the women. And the touches are pecks or brisk. When he discusses what he sees in each woman, he uses those cliché descriptions: she brings laughter, she brings security, she brings truth…that kind of thing. He rarely does anything that is unique or specific or absent of specifics. Polygamy works for him because he doesn’t ever have to spend more than one night with each woman, unless on vacation, so the women do not really see or feel his sexuality. If any of you have ever known a woman who had a relationship with a gay man, you would know what I mean about absence of specifics. I dated a gay man several decades ago and he wanted so badly to be straight and I wanted him to be straight. We ended up best friends but when we tried to be lovers, it was so awkward for him. I see that awkwardness in Kody. So when Robyn and Meri talk about polygamy being about choice and it working, they have to know that Kody, in his religion, doesn’t really have a choice. Not only does he have to maintain a front that he is straight, but he does so by piling on as many wives and children as he can as if that makes him a “real man.” At the end of the day, the women not only have to live with the fact that they and their children compete with the other wives and their children, but they have to know that the man they claim a bond with is not really all that in to them. How awful for the women.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This has been a thought of mine. That is could be possible that Kody is gay. I think you have nailed it.
I have began to pray for the women. I would not want to live that sort of life and perceive that I have a world full of choices.
Polygamy is damaging to woman and those gals do not know better because of the attitude that they were raised in. "Hello Sister Wives", if you really read these blogs, "God loves you because you are his. Not because of your husband."

      Delete
    2. I don't think Kody is gay, but I think he's a metrosexual wannabee. He tends to spend money on objects that just don't make sense if you have 16 kids. A Lexus sportscar, those embroidered purple shirts, spending money to buy something new instead of making do with what he's already got. And of course his attention to his haircare. He fails because he just doesn't have the income or the style sense to really pull it off.

I also think he is in competition with his older brother. Kody wants to have more wives, more offspring, better clothes, better cars and toys, and of course more hair. And those 4 new houses makes him the overall winner in his book. I sometimes wonder what his relationship with his father was really like.

      Delete
    3. I remember Kody's dad going to the wrestling matches to watch Scott & Kody. He came in with his irrigation boots on and always a sweaty, old cowboy hat...but he was there, and so was Mrs. Brown - and she always looked nice & was nice. The boys gave 110% and were state champs. The sisters were cheerleaders and also gave their all. In my opinion the kids had good reputations. They have nice parents too. I never thought Kody was gay. He liked the mirror & a lot of attention, but he wasn't feminine. I was a year ahead of him in school. Our school was small & I don't remember hearing anything about him being gay...until I watched April say it on TV & I really think she was confused with another boy that dressed and looked like Kody. He really hasn't changed much years later. I wasn't a big fan of his in school because he was so boisterous and conceited.

    4. I don't believe Kody is gay either. Like others have stated, I think he just likes attention and being catered to. He has found four women who think he hung the moon! Polygamy is right up his alley as far as that goes.

I think at some point he will also have another wife.

    5. Interesting analysis - on Kody's possible homosexuality. I do see your point, Anonymous, but the sheer number of kids that he's had over the last 20+ years really points to a heterosexual man. Most gay men (even the ones in the closet) find sex with women very abhorrent and would go out of their way to avoid it. Just looking at the large number of kids points in the direction of someone mostly hetero. He may have some unsatisfied homosexual thoughts/urges but they don't seem to steer him away from women.

Kody is too much in love with Kody and loves anyone that is really into Kody. If Kody had any homosexual urges he would find someone that was really into Kody regardless of what it meant to his so-called religion.

      Delete
    6. Anon 1:40,
I must disagree that homosexual men, or most homosexual men, will not have sex with women. You would be surprised at how many men who are married and have children and even grandchildren are gay. If the religious upbringing or if a man's family is anti-gay, most men, especially in Kody's age group, will try the marriage thing. In fact, one psychologists recently said that repressed homosexual (closeted men) men will engage in those stereotypical behaviors of the man who really loves women and cannot keep himself from flirting or having extramarital affairs. The point is to try and pass as straight and in the process of convincing others, he is trying to convince himself. There are tons of articles that are written about men just like Kody who have been married many times, who have many children, and who really try to fit the image of the ladies man. You can use Google Scholar or go straight to JSTOR and do a search on married men who are gay and very credible psychologists provide tons of information.

  27. Ok, I don't get the gay vibe from Kody. Personally, I don't see how polygamy can bring anyone closer to God.
I'm wondering though how old was Christine's mom when she got divorced. I never heard if Christine's mom remarried into polygamy. Do you think Christine's mom got divorced after a new wife was added? Do you think Christine will follow her Mom's footsteps and opt out for divorce? I'm thinking it will happen after TLC drops the show.

  28. I don't think it is a good idea to have Meri at the event because she is in a polyg relationship and over the last year or so, we have seen that it is an unhealthy relationship for her and the other wives. She touts that she is all about choices; however, not everyone in her family had a choice--the children, for example. Also, in the relationship that she is in with the other wives, there was clearly emotional abuse from Meri toward not only the other two wives but also their children. So, the marathon was to bring awareness and money to the cause to help women escape those poly relationships, and she is putting a happy face on like poly works, but only if it is done right. Meri, read my lips, you ain't proved that you are doing it right. In fact, you are proving that it doesn't work; that it isn't healthy for the women or the children; and that it is a drain on society.

    1. I appreciate that Meri participated in the 5k. Many times i read on here that the Browns should volunteer or support causes and now she gets flack for it. Everyone has room for improvement. Hope to see more giving from all of them.

    2. Anon @ 6:43, I can't speak for others here, but I know for me personally it is less about the wives "giving" (although I appreciate the sentiment) and more about seeing Kody do anything selfless. I frequently get the impression that he thinks very little of doing for others unless he sees an immediate, tangible benefit. I realize his time is (theoretically) finite although all one ever sees on the show is him going on all these fabulous dates and getting away with not having a real job, making callous remarks to his wives, and occasionally interacting with the kids (on a pretty shallow level). I think less of him for taking the religious high ground yet only seeming to embrace his faith for ONE reason (and not giving back to the community yet expecting people to give him freebies & buy green drink), and I think less of the wives for choosing to marry such a selfish, conceited man.

    3. I commend Meri for at least doing some real charity volunteer work (as opposed to the "humanitarian" work of selling MLM products,) even if her motives might not have been pure (she was wearing "the paw" around her neck so I'll bet there was at least some "sales work" going on, gotta get that tax deduction don't ya know.) But Kody, I seriously think the man is a narcissistic sociopath. Maybe it's just the way the TV show presents him, but it seems every action he takes is to draw attention to himself or to get something from people. He definitely doesn't convey the humility vibe that many deeply religious people have, that's for sure. I think he just uses his "religion" as an excuse to get his "lifestyle" more accepted.

  29. I don't think he's gay either, just a metrosexual wannabe as Anonymous 5:54 said. And as for the lack of personal contact with his wives, I thought there were sort of careful with that when they were all together and the touchy-feely stuff is when they are one-on-one. Perhaps he puts his arms along the couch over them so no one can say he was only holding Meri's hand on camera or something.

The bottom line is I think he's got a narcissistic personality and I couldn't imagine the psyche of a woman who could be his wife.

  30. Quote from the article on Meri's little trot in SLC:

"There were no TV cameras dogging her steps at Draper City Park, no fanfare or speeches. Just she and her brother-in-law, Nathan, queuing up at the starting gate with about 100 others."

Even Kathy Griffin would have had an entourage and autograph hunters.

  31. This really takes some nerve. Why is a polygamous participating in an event for victims of polygamy? Is it really her intention to say that she has the secret to making this lifestyle work? You only need to watch a few hours of Sister Wives to see how this lifestyle makes Meri miserable. This is not a light subject, this charity helps woman and their children escape from a cult that believes in "Blood Atonement".

Isn't this like going to a support group with their drug of choice? Say, like going to AA meeting with a six pack of beer?

Maybe I'm missing something here but I would be outraged if a person that is trying to convince society that polygamy is a good thing, showed up to an event in support of it's victims.

    1. It didn't feel "right" to me, but Anon 11:06 I think your analogy is great. Even better would be showing up to a MADD rally with a six pack.

I like people volunteering for pretty much anything. Publicizing your involvement when it doesn't jive with what you are known for is strange. Why not get behind one of the thousands of charities that isn't in direct conflict with your lifestyle?

  32. whatever one does in this world, people will TALK!

they TALK sitting in the airconditioned comfy offices, in their homes surrounded by comfort....... they just TALK and do nothing!

I do not support polygamy. Thinks it is a breeding ground of hate, inequality and low self-esteem.

But I think Meri took a very huge step! one it seems was not supported by TLC or even her family(since they were not there). well done Meri, most of us likes to comment and pass judgement - yet we do nothing about the problems in our society!

and because you were there, we are discussing this run on blogs! if you stayed away, we would not know about. well done! hopes it helps drop the weight.

    1. But that is the point...
Yes, there ARE problems in society and people *will and do* discuss them. To get involved and to have an opinion, "talk" in whatever form that can take these days, is necessary.
There are likely many SWB bloggers here who do help to alleviate problems in society beyond posting here about polygamy and the Browns.

Sister Wives has vividly highlighted *the problems in polygamy* across the board. They may have intended to show themselves as different from the Jeffs versions, but their reality show (and book) say otherwise.
Abuse and neglect can take many forms and shades.

From the disrespect and polarizing of the SW wives leading to their subsequent self-esteem/ depression/ health choice issues to the obvious lack of needed Dad-time for the many, many children...right on through to the documented abuse of the welfare system and bankruptcy options...this is the world Meri Brown lives in.

My problem with Meri choosing that specific charity event over all the dozens of others she could have chosen is that by doing so she's able to publicly present herself as being in a "good" version of polygamy as opposed to the women helped by that organization. Self-agenda??

Between the most radical polygamy sects to the watered-down version which the Browns' preach, it is pretty clear that.....
Polygamy in any form is not healthy for women or children.

      Delete
  33. I read that article (about the race).

I agree with Meri - it is a choice.

every human being have a choice. even that organisation works on choice. on their website they say there are people they are helping who are still on the inside...... people who have not made the CHOICE to leave polygamy.

I don't know if you guys have read books from people who left polygamy (e.g. Carolyn, flora's books). In their books they talked about the day they made a DECISION to leave polygamy............ meaning they made a choice to leave and they left - as hard as it is.

so to crucify Meri for saying it's about choice is unfair. EVERYONE have a choice. it is upto that individual to find it in themselves to exercise the choice.

and guys linking what Robyn said on twitter to Meri is downright mean! I see some of you are now creditting Robin's words to Meri. puzzling why?

    1. So, are you saying that Elissa Wall (you know, one of those people who left polygamy and wrote a book about it) had a choice when she was 14 years old and forced to marry her 19 year old cousin?

I think it's downright mean for you to suggest that EVERYONE has a choice, when it's so obvious, not EVERYONE does.

I'm not puzzled by your statements, I'm just saddened by them.

    2. Anon 11:06:
I doubt that you have read any of the stories of the women who left polygamy. They didn't make a choice, say goodbye to their friends and family, and drive off. No: They planned and hid and snuck around and when they finally did leave, they were followed or hunted down. If you had read their stories, you would no that they were not allowed to date boys their age but were usually given to men their father's age and they were often mistreated by the main wife and even, in some cases, by the older children who were usually the young wife's age. Those women don't get a choice, not when they are teenagers; they are not allowed to parent their children; they are not even allowed to take their kids to the doctor. I think you should go back and re read some of these escape stories. Also, Meri is not selfless as you seem to indicate. For her to show up at that event and represents polygamy when the event is to support women like her who leave the abuse. If you think there isn't abuse in Kody's world, you are like Meri, the queen of de'nial.

    3. Anon 11:06 I am in fact puzzled by the comments you made on polygamy being a choice. Are you saying that the young girls that are forced to marry whomever is chosen for them have a choice not to marry? Do you mean that when they are immediately impregnanted that they have a choice to leave if they wish? What about if they leave and their children can not go with them. I guess you can say that they are choosing to leave their babies. Is that what you mean?
Listen Anon...the Brown's bared themselves for America. Anything that we post here is fair game.
I do think it is an interesting CHOICE that Meri made in doing that particular 5k. I guess she CHOOSE to offend any girl there that has made the CHOICE to leave polygamy.

    4. hi. I'm new here ...

In my opinion, I think anon 11:06 and CJ are both correct. Yes there are things that happen that people do not necessarily have a choice, like a girl being married of at 14 to an old man.

But I also agree that choice still exist. that is why we now know of people who left polygamy. just because they pratically ran away without saying goodbye does not take away the fact that it was their choice to leave....

I have volunteered on some shelters for abused women who have a similar background to Eliss's story. they all share about the day when they had taken one beating too much. when the fear of being alone was overridden by the desire for freedom. even with them it is their choice alone.

if a woman have not made that choice to leave; you can say all you want, show all videos and movies of woman in the same situation - but she will still stay in the abusive relationship. I think that was what anon 11:06 was referring to. That we all still have a choice - no matter how small that choice might seem.

      from Kate

    5. True it is their choice to leave, even though they leave in secret. The point that I think you are missing is that the polyg women are raised in a patriarchial society in which women have no voice. They live in isolated communities where the other polyg families are of no help. Polyg girls and women do not have a choice. They are forced into their marriages and are not able to even keep their own money. Choice is not a word that I would use with polyg girls and women. And as far as abused women, many abused women come to the relationship already broken: they have either lived in abusive families where their mother was abused, or they were abused by a family member, or some are mentally ill and are usually victims of men who seek those kinds of women out.

  35. Wow. Just wow. In my mind I'm likening Meri's participation in this event along the lines of a certain Twitter-happy mother-of-8 who volunteered to 'model' at NY Fashion Week. Both events were charitable (well, this particular fashion show was, not so much Fashion Week itself). Both women's participation resulted in a modicum of backlash of some sort, yet still got the charities more public notice than they might have had otherwise. Both women got yet another moment in the spotlight.
I just don't believe the act was motivated out of the goodness of one's heart. Quite frankly, somehow Meri's participation in the race seems hypocritical to me.

    2. I think that the Browns are quietly giving money to charities that help the "Lost Boys." They have far too much class and modesty to make there real charity public. They get alot of money from all their appearances and from TV. They don't live like Holliwood stars or Linsey Lohan.

On the 5k, I think Meri wanted a goal for her exercise. She knew the 5k she ran in would get publicity, so she had to choose something. I like her choice.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, when you compare the Browns with the other TLC reality stars of Honey BooBoo, June, Chickadee, Chubby and Sugar Bear I guess you could use the words class and modesty in the same sentence to describe their differences.

But who can ever forget seeing Meri in that swimsuit in Mexico. No one with class or modesty would be caught dead in that outfit.

And let's not get started on how much the Browns are pulling in moneywise. If they were getting so much money they wouldn't be trying to finance those huge homes and they would definitely dress better than they do.

Kody already thinks he's a Hollywood star. Just watch any of the sister wives shows and you'll see just how big headed he is. Sorry, but for all the problems Lindsey Lohan has suffered through, she does work and is a fine actress. What's Kody's excuse?

  36. I've been thinking quite a bit about charity events and awareness, and was wondering why Meri did not use her sway as a "celebrity" to start up a Colon Cancer Awareness ("Get Your Rear in Gear") 5K in Las Vegas. Isn't that what caused her sister's early death? I would uess that she has enough spare time and knows enough people in the area to be able to organize a fairly successful event. But who knows, maybe they like everything to be about polygamy. If they would just branch out rather than cling SO stubbornly to that one factor, they might find more success in life (including a more successful jewelry line, more job opportunities, more time away from Kody . . . )

funny hey, talk about a catch 22 situation: doomed if you do and doomed if you don't LOL!

but you guys are funny sometimes - kinda feels like I stepped into a courthouse full of judges - passing judgement!

Meri has at least one sister and brother, and a teenage child who could be the public face of the charity. Plus, Meri's brother in law ran with her in Draper, so it's not just Meri that's interested in 5K's.

I think a 5k for colon cancer awareness would be an excellent idea as this disease could affect anyone in society, not just polygamists.

    4. It's one thing to pay a $20 entry fee and just show up, run the 5K, collect your T-shirt and leave - it's quite ANOTHER thing - and a LOT of work - to organize a charitable event, find a reputable organization to represent, gather volunteers and sponsors, obtain permits, publicize the event and so on. I would have more respect for Meri if she actually got off her ass and did something like that....it's a very time consuming and not such an easy job, I know a few people who organize such events. It isn't easy!
