Review: S04 Ep05 Nesting ....

For some strange reason, this week's episodes seemed kind of...Oh, I don't know...a little off or something. And then it hit me: Episode 5 should have been about the Browns business plans and housing woes, with Episode 6 taking on Valentine's Day and Meri's Infertility.

So I've made an executive decision and magically remixed the episodes into a more logical sequence.

First up, we have Kody lamenting about the living conditions of his families. You see, he wants, he NEEDS his families to be living closer together. He complains that his children no longer act like siblings. Kody says he "...needs exposure to all the children, every single day."

So he has found the perfect property --- a gated cul-de-sac with 2 homes almost completed. He figures Janelle and Christine, who have 12 children total, can move into the completed homes if they can qualify for financing.

Now, let's take a step back and think about this situation for a moment. Those houses are huge, maybe in the $450K range. That's approximately a mortgage payment of $4500 per month, not to mention food costs, utilities, insurance...you get the picture.

They must be pulling in a lot of moola from old TLC...

Kody and wives meet with Mona, the real estate lady and Tanya, a loan officer. Basically, Tanya says as soon as Janelle can provide their financials to her, she can work a little magic and start contacting lenders. She is extremely optimistic. (snark alert: she must not have taken a look at the Browns' CBR yet)
Kody feels its a dream, Robyn feels like it could be reality, and Janelle just says "...I'm actually surprised she said there was hope. I pretty much figured she'd say no way."

Hey Janelle, I'm with you on that one. Three bankruptcies in 20 years can certainly put a damper on anyone's quest to find affordable financing.

So while Tanya crunches her numbers, we see Janelle in her home office, working on her business plan for Fundamental Fitness.
As she prepares for a family business meeting, Janelle explains why the fitness center, which originally was Kody's idea, is now her passion. As Janelle explains it, working out has given her "...an excitement ...about life again". Her goal is to create a gym where out of shape people can start at a "basic" level and regain their lives by getting back into shape.

She just needs to present her business plan to the family for their approval. Since she has known these people for many years, she says "...they probably will stomp on some of it... [ I just need to] be professional and remember that...even though this is my family, ...I have to check into a different mindset."
At the meeting, Kody is not enthusiastic about Fundamental Fitness at all. "What's going on..." he asks Janelle. When Janelle gives her estimate of $2.25 per square foot, Kody is not buying it, at all. He quickly (too quickly if you ask me) figures out that this venture will cost $22,500 - money he feels will be drained from his successful "marketing" venture. And when Janelle mentions they need 1000 people to pay membership fees, well, let's say the Kodster was less than enthusiastic and clearly perturbed with this business plan. "Here's the thing..." he begins. "We don't know what we're doing with this...they are going to ask us to personally sign for the monthly rent. So a failure means a bankruptcy..." And we all know Kody has a LOT of experience with bankruptcies in the last 20 years.

Anyway, it's rather disheartening to watch Kody shoot down Janelle's proposal, especially since the fitness center was originally his own lamebrain idea he enthusiastically presented to the family last year. Christine, who has been very critical of Kody lately, offers the following assessment of Kody's entrepreneurial style: " I thought this business meeting was really frustrating to be honest. What I've noticed in the past was if Kody doesn't want to do it, then it kind of loses the power, and then we don't do it." Of course Kody interjects his explanation in Christine's face when he says "Christine, that actually wasn't my intention. My intention was to discover whether this was feasible for us."

As usual, Janelle takes the defeat in stride, but she adds her own little jab at Kody's fragile ego "What I take exception to is when [ Kody says if he] 'is not excited, you better sell it to me.' I'm thinking...why do I have to sell this to you? " Now we get another glimpse of the not so nice and friendly Kody monster. Crazy eyes flashing, he says "When we start talking about these hard numbers, I'm like going...ok, we gotta make sure we got the energy and the financial ability to do it. That's all I was doing...I want to do it right." Yeah, Kody, you certainly have shown the viewing audience a lot of your work energy.

And pray tell, what has Robyn done right with her online store that is STILL, as of today, OFFLINE?

Kody just tell us one thing. Did you lose your enthusiasm for this particular pipe dream when the investor walked away? Something tells me you wanted the investor to assume all the risk and provide a majority of the financial backing. You actually brought nothing to the table, except for your inflated sense of 'celebrity' because of a reality show. Did the original investor see through your hype and exited the scene before losing a lot of money on a man who refuses to WORK at anything other than stroking his own ego while flipping his hair?

Kody is looking more and more like a tool as this season wears on. Maybe TLC should rename  this episode Kody: A Real Tool

So what's happening with the home loans?

Well, the minute I saw Kody telling all the kids that their dreams of the beautiful cul-de-sac homes were about to come true, I thought, now why would he do that without knowing for sure he was going to get the financing? This guy really is a child - and to think he's got 4 women to buy into his crazy nonsense. Unbelievable...

After an appropriate period of time, Tanya the loan officer calls up the Kody Krew for a meeting. You see, she's got some kind of good news and some not so good news. To normal people, the kind of good news would actually be bad news, but with the Kody Krew, I suppose you hope for the best  and forget about the rest.

Robyn, looking more dour than usual in her couch interview, says " Well I hope she's gonna hand us a miracle, cuz we need ta ah-qualify for the loans and then we also need to be able to afford the payments...so it's...a tall order" Tall order? Holy moly, can you imagine the look of terror on that loan officer's face when she started analyzing their financials. The credit bureau reports alone probably made her heart skip a couple of beats!

But when everyone convenes around the table, oh man, it does not look good. Tanya is looking a little frazzled around the edges, and where the heck is Mona the real estate lady? And then, Tanya starts talking about this "all or nothing" requirement set forth by Kody.

All or nothing? What's that all about? Well, as briefly explained by Tanya (for the viewing audiences benefit, no doubt) Kody has stipulated that he would only buy in to the cul-de-sac homes IF and only IF all four homes belonged to him. No outsiders, no sharks need apply. All four houses must belong to Kody Brown and his loving wives. They must be all next to each other, like the Henricksons' houses were in Big Love.

That's where the similarity ends between Big Love and Sister Wives. In Big Love, the patriarch Bill owned his retail store chain called Home Plus. In the real world of reality television, Kody only owns...wait a minute let me think about this...oh yeah, a plyg house in Lehi, a Lexus convertible and lots of bottles of Rogaine. And an undisclosed salary from TLC. Not quite the successful business man yet, but give him time...lots and lots of time!

Tanya gives the "good" news first. "We've got some financing available!" she says. Why does Tanya look like she has something nasty in her mouth? Christine is so excited, she jumps up and down in her seat. Janelle expresses her amazement and Kody gives her his usual heartfelt "You rock!". Only, Tanya's looking a little stressed. And Robyn's not looking very happy, and that ain't ever good. "We are going to be doing some not traditional financing initially..." she says. ARE YOU SERIOUS? I yelled at my TV. I thought that type of financing was made illegal when the housing bust occurred. Well, apparently not because not only will the Browns have an interest only loan with a high interest rate, they will be required to make a substantial 40% down payment. Gasps can be heard...Janelle says "Ouch!!" under her breath. Of course, after giving his best Johnny Carson imitation, Kody says in his talking head "...so when she delivers the terms, it's double in costs what we thought it would be.."

Yikes, that's what happens when you have 3 bankruptcies in 20 years!

Level headed Janelle of course says "I think the family needs to talk about this first...to understand how much money we're talking about". Well let's see, courtesy of our own DakotaJustice, one of the houses was $450,000.00. Four houses would be a total of $1,800,000.00. Forty percent of $1.8 million is, hold on to whatever you got handy, a whopping $720,000.00. Almost three quarters of a million dollars! That's a lot of money...even for the Browns! Robyn was just concerned with what the payments would be - trust me Robyn, you can't afford it. And of course, master businessman Kody is surprised to learn he would be paying double what he's paying now just renting. Gee Kody, bankruptcies are a b****, ya know! Maybe you should of thought about the future consequences before you filed. You need to downsize your dreams mister, because you got champagne tastes with a tap water credit rating.

And then Tanya gave them the 'bad' news...seems Mona was out 'sick' (yeah right) but she did let Tanya know that one of the houses already sold. Kody, now seeing his cue for a face saving exit strategy, comes to the conclusion ah...maybe we should downsize to something more affordable. Yeah, like maybe four doublewides out in the desert somewhere. Kody decides maybe to start with two homes. Robyn was not amused. Her dreams have been shattered. It's apparent she doesn't want to share a home with a sister wife. What a b**** she is.

And with that, the Browns go back home, to break the news to the kids. The big homes are no more. Maybe 2 homes instead, in a regular cul-de-sac.

It's pretty sad to hear the older teenagers saying they never bought into their parent's dream gated cul-de-sac. Apparently, this isn't the first time a big dream of Kody's doesn't pan out.

And sadly, it probably won't be the last time.

Stay tuned for Episode 6!

  1. Geesh i just cant understand these people! I mean i want to buy a big freaking house to, but hey we dont have the money. So we bought a smaller appartment (and we have no kids).. it is still nice :)!. That is what you do as a adult. You are realistic and you know what you can and cant do with youre money.

These people are so unrealistic and so very immature. Like they dont have money accept TLC money and they are going around spending it all. These people annoy me seriously they have like a lot of children and they keep adding more and now they think oh well lets buy bigger homes because ? we can ?. NO YOU CANT kody!!
Why not save up money and i dunno take the children somewhere fun.. instead of all the dates with his wives.
Ugh i dont want to watch them anymore. I have no respect for them left. Just get a job (Janelle, Kody and maybe Meri) and put the TLC money in to a saving account. Instead of spending it all

    1. You got that right. They are all immature and unrealistic. The more I watch these people, the more convinced I am that polygamy stunt a person's emotional development.

'These people are so unrealistic and so very immature.' I AGREE! If they had any brains they WOULD be seeking out 4 double wide trailers in the desert IF they could get the financing ;) Unrealistic expectations for sure.

  2. After watching the preview for next week's show, I'm thinking that they will move back to their old house in Lehi. After reading their best seller, it seems that their church friends weren't happy about the Browns doing this show in the first place. Maybe that's why they left. The book also mentions that Robchin was living in St. George, which is the largest town closest to Short Creek. Adding that information to the fact that her first husband was a Jessop, I'm certain that they were part of the Warren Jeffs group.

CJ, could you please start a section about the best selling book?

    1. Pool Queen, I totally thought the same thing!! I don't know what it was, but I just finnished reading Carolyn Jessop's book, and alot of the things Robyn says and does (not abuse wise or anything) is so creepily similar to the "twin cities" mentality.

  3. CJ, I think most of us simutaneously yelled out ARE U SERIOUS? at the tv, when the loan officer told the Browns that they qualified for financing..but I did interject "eff'ing" in that sentence too!...lol

"...YOU GOT CHAMPAGNE TASTES WITH A TAP WATER CREDIT RATING"

ROFLMAO!! I was taking a drink of soda when I was reading this, & it nearly came spewing through my nose O_o Love that analogy! Now, I'm all for WORK HARD, PLAY HARDER, but damn, Browns, maybe its time for ya'll to get a real
J.O.B(s) bcuz it seems like ya'll just want to play, shop, travel, vacation, scheme, repeat..w/o working! In order to be successful in anything, U have to factor in WORK in the equation as well ...but seriously the Browns have totally let "fame & fortune" go to their heads, esp Robyn!! Her horns & true colors are starting to show. She seems like a pouty high maintainance stingy lil bitch who thinks her pussy is made of gold & will whine & throw a fit when she doesn't get her way, but she's about to get bitch slapped by a harsh reality! Browns = Shattered Pipe Dreams & EMPTY PROMISES! Maybe I should send her some cheese to go with all that "whine" she was displaying...hehe

CJ, good call & I'm glad U called Kody out on the Sister Wife's Closet website since he was trying to make a firm stance about about business & "wanting to do it right"! I was totally thinking the same thing when I was watching this episode...Lol I can't decide whether to use sad, lame, pathetic, or desperate to describe this episode...smh
They always talk about wanting to all be together & function as "one" family instead of 4 separate households, but clearly, that's not the case, which most of us already knew anyways! I'm guessing Robyn seriously thinks that she will always have her own home & not have to share w/ the other wives! Which is a crock of donkey doo & I'm willing to bet she'll conveniently pull the "aspergers" card, when push comes to shove just to get her own way & own place! She's never had to live under one roof like the others & she has made it very clear that she doesn't want to nor does she want Kody to have a 5th wife. Guess she'll have to take that one up with the "higher calling" Kody claims he answers to...HA! I still have some things to snark, I mean, comment about, but I have a busy morning ahead of me, so will return later!
CJ, as always, thanks for the laughs & smiles with ur witty & entertaining review =)

    1. caramel brownie, your assessment of the browns seems head on. the part about robyn made me laugh out loud. it was easy to tell by her facial expressions that she was not happy about potentially living under one roof with the other wives. i know this is kind of evil, but i want to see what happens when they are forced to deal with each other on a daily basis. i have a feeling it will make for some good tv. ;)

    2. Kody says that he's not considering a 5th wife, but my guess it that he'll get sick of Robyn and her 'her pussy made of gold ' (btw, that really cracked me up, because I think they both really believe it. LOL!) Soon Kody will tire of Robyn. Why? Because more and more she's been acting like a wife rather than an exciting lover. Kody doesn't want a wife with real needs, emotions, and problems. He wants a fun bedroom toy. Robyn was able to get what she wanted with sexual favors. But now, she has a baby to take care of and is acting more like a wife than an exciting mistress. Just wait and see. If the show doesn't get cancelled after this season, Kody will get a revelation from "GOD" to marry a 26-year-old.

  4. Oh yes, now it makes perfect sense. What has happened is TLC in its efforts to maintain interest in this trainwreck has tried to use those montage like shootings where the camera will jump from one to another. Kody, in his horrible attempt to seem business like, tries to appear like a CEO of this sad and emotionally abused family. In his most serious CEO voice, comes down hard on Janelle and Chirstine with the crunch number discourse. He is wanting to appear as a mover and shaker and in his own little gray matterless brain, he is living the part that he so much wants to play. Likewsie, Janelle is playing a role too: a role in which she is smart and educated and adept at starting businesses. When she once told Christine that well that is what I am good at, meaning business stuff, we thought she may have really been good at that; however, now we see her little flimsy business plan left a lot to be desired…especially with the advantages and disadvantages and target audience etc. I would have loved to see her move those business plan templates from the internet into her little files as she collected the data from her projections of how much money and how many members. What she missed was how the hell are they going to market to these people and how will they continue to satisfy those who buy into their shame.
Oh sigh, I need to spend an entire week waiting for Kodsturd to come up with a new plan for the sad little train that cannot.

    1. I have to make sure that the membership advisors at the fitness club I teach at see that little segment regarding "we need 1000 members to make it" so they can all LAUGH. Janelle has NO CLUE about how competitive the industry is. The club I teach for is a chain (not a franchise) and is regarded as one of the top players in the industry...and the advisors bust their BUTTS each month in order to make their number goals. and more importantly, ensuring membership retention is even more essential to a club's survival. This is one reason why Curves went downhill so quickly - the workout is basically the same - the company did try to incorporate changes such as adding Zumba and CurvesSmart (for extra $$) but it was too little too late...and the workout doesn't change so members get bored...the hours generally suck as company policy is/was to be closed on Sundays, holidays, and 2 hours for lunch...meanwhile there is usually a much better fitness club at the same or lower monthly cost, with better hours, equipment and more qualified staff. Curves marketed based on the traditional fear of gyms that overweight/obese ladies are supposed to have...which is BS mostly. the industry has picked up on that and Curves lost their edge and now they are a fraction of what they used to be. IMO of course.

anyway, there are other players in the LV market that are already established...also I would bet that the showgirls etc probably work out at the hotels' facilities where they already work as part of their benefits OR get a special employee rate at an already-established facility such as Planet Fitness. So good luck getting 1,000 members or even half that...although it appears that the Old Kody Kabash has been put on the idea, which sucked anyway (Kody taking all the credit for it is killing me...why don't they try opening a casino next...?)

    1. I will probably burn in hell for saying this, but to me knowing that this is all coming out is making this season even MORE interesting. My heart hurts for the children, but I can see the "Karma arc".

The story arc is becoming clearer to me for this season...IMO here is my prediction:
next week the teens are paying a little visit to the old homestead in Lehi.
the adults will be coming to terms (if that's possible) with the fact that their credit (quoting Beavis and Butthead) "sucks worse than anything in sucktivity" and that they aren't going to be able to start a thriving business in LV with its near 14-percent unemployment rate. also the "marketing" isn't going to bring in that needed $$.
the story line will then become a transistion BACK to the homestead in Lehi and a new story line - trying to figure out how to fit Robyn and her kids onto the Lehi property (obviously either an addition to be built, Meri to share her space, or simply to truck a used double-wide onto the property) will begin.

being away from LV, the adults and teens will start losing the stress weight gained during their time away...and so it goes.

    2. Ha ha, Robchin a curse...good one Danielle B.
That is a perfect insight to Robchin joining the Kody Klan. She was soooo angry at the lender office meeting, where was here sweet, kind, forgiving nature? She must have forgot them all at home with her broom.

And confirmation DakotaJustice...IMO we might be headed back to Lehi after this bust in Las Vegas and all the persecution the poor family has suffered in the bright lights of the strip...oh but wait, remember Kody likes shinny things and has always wanted to live in Vegas long before the threat of bigamy charges.

      Delete
    3. You would think Dakota, that would be the sensible approach. But Kody is not sensible. And no way Robyn is going back to a trailer. Would make a nice conflict though!

      Delete
    4. Robyn might not have any choice in the matter of where she chooses to live. It might be all they can afford. I'm guessing a portion of their TLC $$ is going to pay the mortgage(s) on their Lehi property as well as the rents on their LV homes.

      Delete
    5. Bbbbut DakotaJ, if they all go back to Podunk how will the ladies ever make it? They like having their "space". They like their own furniture. They like having pools. They like not needing to be all sisterly. FGS, where's the nearest airport? How will they get to their special getaways?

And poor Kody, how will he adjust to having "access" to all those kids at one time, day after day after day? Who will be suitably impressed with his mack daddy stud muffin hair flippin style?
I think Kody will fight a move back to Utah with every fiber of his hypocritical soul, he's fallen into the self deluded black hole of faux celebrity.
I can't even go into the despair Robyn would crumble into with a move there. Maybe her sig line about "should have been together since day one" will feel like it really was true, good times.

  6. CJ, your reviews are so good, so entertaining and so spot on that I may start skipping the show and just read your reviews the next day! Thank you for a wonderful blog. I absolutely love the pictures too.
Why oh why did one of those houses sell? I wanted Kody to finally have to own up to something. His exit strategy now became this house that sold. Nooooo that's not fair. Any holy cow Robyn jumped all over her ruined dream. I don't know that she could be called a gold digger but if she is I hope she realizes now that this gold is gold plated doo doo!
Janelle and Christine......wake up! Don't keep letting Kody off the hook. Your kids deserve better than this. I can't wait for these kids to get out of there. Kids, if you're reading this, please get out! I can't wait to read a tell all by one of the kids.
I loved the kids couch interview. No one, not even Mariah, thought this would ever work. They know Kody is full of you know what! Loved it!

  7. I dont understand any of this. I live in Vegas, they could easily get the square footage they want. Honestly, for half the price. the homes they looked at are for wealthy people.LV has very large homes, multiple homes in fact in plenty of good areas of town, but without the luxury. When we moved here a year ago, we rent, there where some really giant houses for sell, in a friends neighborhood alone she had 1/2 the homes for sale. These are 5-6 bedroom homes. Some one had bought a bunch and they are presently renting some of these large homes. They are making Mona look like a bad Realtor. I could find them 4 homes in a gated community. BUT all that aside right now in vegas you can buy homes cheep, if you have cash you can buy even cheaper. They could take the money, you know all the money from kodsters "marketing" business and just buy some 3 bed homes, rent them out and make some money. I know he wont because buying and managing rentals would take work, time and patience. It could ad stability to his family and jobs for everyone. I wish we could do it, we cant afford it, if only my husband would stop the daily grind and get a "marketing" business.
A fool and his money are soon parted.

    2. I doubt they're making all that much $$ from LIV. my guess is that a significant amount of the comissions they're getting from whatever their "downline" is, goes towards the lease of the "free car". If it works like Mary Kay does - and I'm sure it does - the car isn't FREE -the Browns have to meet a "sales goal" each month to keep the car, or at least not have to co-pay on it. From what I read on Pinktruth.com, rather than repossessing the car, the company will start charging a co-pay so basically the browns would be on the hook to pay the lease or be responsible for turning the car in themselves. Ain't no such thing as a free lunch, even for the Browns.

    1. I've said this before - if this was filmed in January and the Q&A session was filmed in April, Robyn was NOT pregnant at the time. Maybe she's holding her tummy that way, because she just gave birth and it's a habit now.

    2. I am in the Robchin is knocked up camp too. Because in the Q & A episode that gray top had alot of ruffles, she is always with Sol on lap or blanket drapped for nursing. And the white jacket with buttons during business talk looks like it might be buttoned over a baby bump. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, since she constantly reminds us that all she brings to the family is a uterus.

    3. I was going to post the same thing about how Robyn keeps holding her tummy. I think she's pregnant - maybe with her and Kody's baby, I doubt it's with Meri and Kody's baby.

Meri and Kody can't figure out how to even discuss sex with a doctor, much less how to go about doing all the things they'd need to do to harvest eggs and implant fertilized eggs into Robyn.

  9. I don't understand these people! What's wrong with getting four townhouses in a row or four nice condos or apartments in the same building? That's got to be way more affordable and realistic. They'd still be very lucky and blessed to have that. I think money and fame has reared it's ugly head.

    1. Not meaning to sound defensive of them but Christine and Janelle need a lot of space for their brood of children so those two can't really do town homes or condos.

    2. I dunno, they seemed to be doing just fine living in their 1/3 of a house in Lehi, and now Logan has one foot out the door with a gaggle of teenagers leaving in the next 1-2 years...

      Delete
  10. First of all - Kody won't be persecuted in Utah and they have this huge home in Lehi. It sure is a lot cheaper to add to that house to make space for Robyn rather than spend almost 2 million in new homes.

Second - Kody only likes businesses when they are his idea and someone else picks up the tab. And does the work. And lets him sleep on the recliner. And pays him money, because after all, it was His Great Idea. Then, when Janelle comes up with some reality, all of a sudden King Kody is Not Interested no more.

Robyn's dream fell apart? Before this show she was living in a trailer from the 70's. I've got a feeling that she is the polygamist version of a gold digger (and not a smart one).

But, instead of saving or investing it 'wisely', that $$ has been burning a hole in their pockets & they're spending foolishly...smh
Like someone has mentioned, The $$ the Browns have spent for rent/utilities/decor/maintainance on 4 homes + pool supplies & maintainance in a couple of them, in the past year, could've easily been invested in their home in Lehi to pay it completely off & for renovations, add-ons, etc...hell, they probably could've even paid off their bankruptcy debts...smh
When this roller coaster ride is over & the resources become finite AGAIN, this will fuel everyone's emotions in the worst way! IMO, resentment, anger, bitterness, regret will come full circle & they will all be pointing fingers, blaming each other, & NO ONE will want to be held accountable for this epic fail!

  12. Why don´t they sell the House they have in Lehi, buy some Ground in Vegas and built 4 Houses on their own? I don´t know how that works in the USA, but in Germany you could get a prefabricated House with ~3000 sq for about 150k (about 180k in Dollar). If you do some work on your own you might even get it cheaper. Of course that would be the "standard version" so probably not high class enough for them.

But one of these houses was 450k? Wow, thats expensive. I always thought that houses in the US are very cheap right now (at least, thats what they tell us in German Television *lol*).

Anyways, with their unsteady way of living they should stay with renting, really.
Who knows, in a year or so they might move to Nebraska or get another wive and in five years Kody probably has another 5-6 children.
And who would get a loan that high if some of the kids are soon ready to go to college?

And the more I see of Kody lately, the more I get the feeling that he really is a mean, hotheaded Suppressor when cameras aren´t rolling.

    1. I don't have the address of the Lehi house anymore - but I recall looking up the stats on PropertyShark.com and seeing at least one lienholder on the property - meaning if they sell, (probably upside down since I would bet they took out a second and used the cash for other things like so many other people did during the Real Estate Bubble) they would have to pay off the existing mortgage first. Also, I would guess that property values aren't all that high in Lehi - supply and demand. and lastly, it's a very specialized property. Even if Lehi is a hotbed of polygamy, i would still guess that the vast majority of citizens are just regular ol' monogamous folks. Not very many people in the market for a converted single-family dwelling. And I wonder...if it meets code requirements or if they did all the work (putting in two extra kitchens etc) without permits...? hmmm.

    2. It really depends on where you live in the US. Where I live (San Francisco Bay Area) you might be able to get a fairly decent condo for $450k or a fixer upper single family dwelling in a less-desirable area. Even worse in NYC.

Robchin has been promised a grand mansion with a three car garage, and I think Kody actually believes he deserves this without working. So, the mobile homes will be a tough sell.

    4. Robin probably has a much bigger budget than the other 3, due to "Dayton's" Aspergers, and therefore refuses to live communally. She would not be able to hide away her excess "Blood of the Beast" from the prying eyes of the others. Also, you probably didn't think of this, but you can't really build a pre-fab house that cheap in Germany or America. The empty house shell, maybe, but you have to actually build it ON something. In America, we don't take our kitchens from house to house, like in Germany. Our built-in kitchens, alone add a huge cost to house building. Wo wohnen Sie eigentlich, das pre-fab Bau so günstig ist? In NRW, kann man gar nichts, niedriger als 200K Euro oder so, und das, zwar winzig--nicht mehr als 3 Schlaftzimmer.

    5. I thought that the ground to build on maybe cheaper in America than in Germany, that´s why I guessed they might build something cheap. Sorry, don´t know about real estate really, only what they tell us in German Television in Shows like "The Emigrant" (Die Auswanderer) where they basically say you can get a nice house for bread and butter ;)
I also did not consider that they don´t own the kitchen and appliances.
So thanks, not going to move to Vegas anytime soon ;)

      @linnet

  13. I'm glad you mentioned the glare from Kody Monster. I was scared for Janelle!

    ReplyDelete
  14. As usual, great review, CJ! I, too, was aggravated by Kody speaking so rudely to Janelle about the fitness center business plan. I have said in my earlier postings that I don’t think the fitness center is necessarily a good idea but that being said, at least Janelle is TRYING to get some income generated for this family and has honestly put some thought and effort into the project. It’s been almost a year and they really don’t have anything going other than the MLM which we all know will fade out soon. Did Kody demand to Robyn “what is going on?” about her Sisterwives closet store (like CJ pointed out is still offline now 6 months later). Did anyone notice the eyeroll Janelle gave Kody on the couch? He muttered something like “as if I don’t have to sell anything to you? I sold you this sofa!” Janelle then did the eye roll. This is the first time I have seen what I like to think is the true Janelle this season. And of course, Christine is right. When Kody says no, it’s dead. Just like last season when Janelle wanted the kids to hang out with a church group that was not Fundamental LDS and Kody said no and then Janelle said something like “well I don’t really have a voice here, so I give up”.
How stupid is Kody that he doesn’t realize BEFORE putting that poor loan officer through the ‘paperwork’ that buying almost $2 million worth of homes, no matter what type of down payment will be required, will be more expensive than the houses he is renting? Sheesh – there are so many free and easy mortgage calculators out there, he couldn’t find time (with the new laptop he hates!) to figure that out in advance? And as CJ points out, he totally found his “out” and way to save face when he found out one of the houses sold “oh well let’s just find something more affordable”. Ya think? I felt sorry for Christine when she was jumping up and down in her chair, she really knows nothing about basic finance. Other than Janelle, I honestly think they all somehow thought they could afford $500,000 houses, the payments on the mortgages, the utilities, etc. And Robyn’s reaction, well WOW. Seems like someone’s true colors and motivations are coming out! Maybe she should HOP TO and get her super jewelry business up and running if she thinks she deserves so much more than a double- wide in the desert.

    1. Great points, CPA Carol!! I agree totally! They all seem so clueless about buying 4 high-end homes!! And when Christine started jumping out of her chair when the loan officer said she had 'something' for them, I wanted to say to her, 'sit your butt back down Christine, it ain't gonna be pretty'...and sure enough, when she heard the 40% down payment, she said, 'ouch'....and I thought the same thing (and commented on the post before this one) that they seem like little kids, jumping up and down, playing 'house' and squealing, 'Oh boy, let's buy 4 houses, a fitness center, study for real estate school, and all kids go to college!! So agree about Robyn too....I also made a comment about Kody whispering in Robyn's ear (on Christine's night) about all of his hopes and dreams for the family: huge homes, businesses, conglomerates, empires, etc, etc....and she bought it all....now she has a glimpse of what these kids have been dealing with: the reality of broken dreams......

I think Christine said "Ouch" because her brain hurt from trying to do the math. If she can't subtract Robyn's weight holding and then not holding Sol to determine Sol's weight, she certainly can't figure out 40% of $450k. I agree with you both on all the other points you made though. ;)

Good question phylly3, bcuz it seems that he has his wives do all the recruitN to get folks to their seminars,etc.. in hopes that they can convince most of them to sign up under the Browns as distributors(aka minions & suckers to generate more cash flow for the Browns), for $250+...& sell products to the other suckers that don't wanna be distributors. I think, Kody just has to show up, "socialize" & work the room, then deliver a convincing $$ making speech to the folks at the seminar, so afterward, folks will be flocking to them w/ their checkbooks & credit cards O_o

  16. I agree with these comments. As I watched the show, I felt for Janelle. She is so desperate to do something, anything, that is work and income related that she jumped on the fitness idea that Kody mentioned. She knows that things will only happen with HIS ok, that she thought it was a given. She figured on his support. I don't think it is really her passion to open a gym, but she clung to the nugget he put out there. For him to condemn it like that was awful. I also wondered if the meeting at the table to discuss the plan was staged, as I noticed that at least Janelle was wearing the same outfit as on the couch when they discussed it afterward. I don't remember the others outfits (for which I am extremely grateful)

I also thought it sad that the teens knew it wouldn't work out. I know I am a person who has lots and lots of plans and ideas at once, but I don't feel the need to share them with everyone all the time as Kody does. He needs an editor when it comes to telling the kids all his ideas.

    1. Samantha – I think you have a really good point there. Poor Janelle does seem to want to do anything to get some money/income rolling in. Janelle is very practical so when they were planning the ‘date’, she must have suggested the hiking so that she could mention how great she was feeling since she had been working out, putting that nugget out there for the viewers. I also agree that this is not her ‘passion’ but she is just trying to find ways she can market this business that Kody so desperately seemed to want at one time. I think she probably thought it was a good angle to market the fitness center as a place for people for people just starting to get basic fitness back since obviously she (nor anyone else in the family) looks super fit and healthy. So, that was her angle and I think that was her marketing strategy. It is definitely the strategy they would need to go with because obviously no one has lost substantial weight, although I will say Janelle looks much prettier and healthier than last season, even if her weight hasn’t budged much. Compared to the intro where she looks very sloppy, she is looking much more attractive this season.

I was also watching the outfits…and it seemed like the couch sessions before and after the financing fiasco must have been staged because I think they were all wearing the same clothes. Janelle was definitely wearing the same black top.

I am also convinced that the producers made them do the ‘dining room’ discussions on the same day but just had the women bring a change of tops because the table had the same exact set ups with the red placemats, etc….and I also think they don’t really get together that often so the producers said let’s do two sessions today, just bring a change of clothes so it will look like there were two different meetings.

    3. samantha I think you're on the right track here. Janelle seemed to be a workaholic in Utah and now she has nothing. I think more than anything she wants to werk. Kody seems to have nothing but pipe dreams. I think they should limit how much they tell the kids about jobs, and houses, ect. until things are more than just thoughts. These poor kids are being put on an unnessasary roller coaster ride of thoughts and emotions.

  17. First, let me state that I don't watch this show because I hate the Browns or Kody, though I like him the least of all of them. I watch the show because I actually lke them and am curious as to how they make this work on any level at all. I would like to see them get housing, and the housing they want. They are a family of multiple children and they deserve what they want providing they can afford it. $1.8M does not seem out of their ballpark, depending on what they make from TLC and from the book and merchandizing. I think they should stick to books, however, because I wouldn't wear the jewelry or the t-shirts, lest anyone think I want to be a plural wife. Not. I might also say that the monster in the Brown family is not necessarily Robyn, but TLC. It is far cheaper for TLC to subcontract camera crew, et al in Vegas than in Utah. I'm not convinced Robyn would be a member of the Brown family if they weren't on TLC. They may move back to Lehi and expand. I, for one, would like to see them in separate but close homes. It's the only way to protect the other wives financially, each of them having a home in their own name. As it stands, if this show pays off for them, Meri gets half should she ever walk and Kody would get the other half to, if he chose, split equally between the other three wives. My advice to the wives, whatever you each make individually from the sale of the book, put that into the house; try to buy the house outright. It's all you'll have when this whole thing unravels.

And Logan, if you're reading this, go away to college. Your family needs you very much, but you can serve them better by getting out into the world, making a huge success of yourself, and then come back and rescue your mother. You don't have the side to truly walk away; that's why you're smart, good-looking and good-hearted. Stay that way, but think strategically young man, not tactically.

    1. I don't hate the Browns myself, I do hate what they are doing to their kids. I think it's clear at this point - CRYSTAL clear - that the Browns are not exactly raking in big bucks from TLC. CJ gave a great analysis in the comments in the previous blog post when I theorized that the Browns *might* be making $500k/700k this season MAX, CJ made a terrific case, which I feel is probably close to the truth, that the Browns are probably getting more like $250k. One has to think of it this way - this is NOT a show that will be a prime candidate for syndication. More than likely it will not appear on any other networks, either cable or otherwise. I doubt if the Browns have any bargaining "clout" - what other network would take them really? They are taking whatever TLC offers, and it is not sufficient to overturn their horrendous credit history and be able to purchase almost $2 million in real estate. As far as the book deal - of course we don't know the details, but my guess is that they took an advance (and not a big one) against sales of the book. If it works like the music industry, the Browns will not see a single penny from book sales until their part of the royalties equal how much they have already received from the publisher as an advance (and I really don't think it was much - we aren't talking Rowling or Bill Clinton here). As was stated earlier, the publisher hasn't even seen fit to have the Browns (or any of them) go on a book tour of any type whatsoever. Jeez, even Jean M. Auel went on a book tour last year to publicize the final book in Earth's Children series and she's in her 70's. Amazon shows that the book is currently 2,346 in their "best seller" list. And that's with the new shows being aired - so there would be public interest right now. in other words, pretty damn lame. I predict the book will be on the cutout/bargain shelves at Barnes & Noble by January 2013.

Merchandising? What, pray tell, do the Browns have to merchandise? How valuable is the Brown brand? If the best they can do is be a "celebrity distributor" for a fly by night obscure MLM, then their brand is not worth a whole hell of a lot. the "sisterwifescloset.com"? not even up yet. The fitness center - which obviously was going to be marketed as being owned and operated by the Browns as a selling point? not gonna happen.

"They deserve what they want" just because they have multiple children? People deserve what they work hard for. Why blame TLC? TLC was looking for a polygamous family to feature on a reality show. The Browns pursued it. TLC is not the monster here. As I said, the show will not be syndicated - it might play in re-runs for a few years but only on TLC or possibly on an even lower-rung channel owned by Discovery Network - but I don't see this being a candidate for syndication. The Browns more than likely are getting paid one check each season, and that's it. No royalties, no percentage of syndication rights. there is no big payoff in the future - they're getting it now.

I do agree that Logan needs to get the Eff out, but it's not his job to "rescue his mother". Janelle is where she wants to be, maybe she's not happy, but if she wants to change her situation, just like all of us adults, it is up to her, and only her, to change it. Logan needs to go out and live his life - it's not his duty to help his family - it's Janelle's and Kody's duty to raise their children to be free and independent and be able to stand on their own boot straps. By some miracle, it appears that Logan might be able to do just that. Time will tell.

    2. Agree on so many of your points, DakotaJustice: hardworking people deserve what they can afford, TLC is secondary in this train wreck, no one forced Kody and his tribe to sign on the dotted line, except maybe their bank book, and don't saddle Logan with rescuing his mom, she's an adult, for goodness sake, she left this train wreck once before and returned, for the TLC money, I would guess....I have said this before: the Browns need to take a good hard look at what happened to Kate Gosselin....

I think Logan will do great, clearly he is planning to go to college somewhere else if Kody wants to talk him into community college. (Great plan there Kodster! Avoids the work for you!). I think it's been ingrained in him for a long time to play daddy for a "spread thin" Kody, and he will be a fine man and father someday.

But for now, he needs to get the hades out of there and go to college. Hell, his story is so interesting I bet he could get in places he didn't expect. He can even transfer to a dream school I bet, after the first year. He will be just fine.

    4. I don't hate the Browns either. What I hate is what they are doing to their family. They put themselves in the public eye for us to analyze. Therefore, most of us have opinions on how we feel about what they are doing. What I don't like....is what they have done with the system. I am all for the system helping those who help themselves. What irks the heck out of me though is seeing people USE AND ABUSE the system when there are truly people in need. Case in point, my Dad has been very ill for 16 years. He has a host of issues. He has worked hard his entire life. When I was in the 3rd grade, our home burnt to the ground and we lost everything. Dad took on another job. When things were tight, he chopped wood. Mom worked as well. Now, years later my parents can not even enjoy their retirement. Why? Because my Dad's dialysis is over $80,000 a month. Yes, you read that right. Combined with his medicine, it's over $100,000 a month. Because my parents own land and a nice home that they worked hard for, they don't get any help. They can't spend much of their money, because of the way the system works. They have to carry insurance that costs them an arm and a leg on TOP of the insurance they get now that they are in their golden years. Now my Mom has Alzheimer's and so they have a double whammy. So yes, I do have a problem with people who bilk the system by getting food stamps and over spending and reproducing when they don't have the money to pay for the children they already have....and they are all VERY capable of working.

    5. Dakota Justice - i so agree it's not Logan's job to go to school so he can make a good enough living to come back and rescue his momma. Logan's already more than stepped up to the plate being his siblings' surrogate Dad while growing up himself.

Remember when Robyn whined about him leaving the state to go to college cause she said she'd envisioned him staying w/the family and being around for her kids? Good Lord - this kid is way overdue for a break to go away and be normal and find out who he really is and focus on himself for once in his life. It's so sad that he is wondering if he'll even be missed when he's gone. He has no clue how much and why!! ;'(

  18. I haven't read any comments yet, but I have a few things to say. I am fairly new to the board, only reading and commenting for a few months now. I have never had a chance to go back and read everything before I joined, and I am sure I miss a lot of great comments as well. So this might of already been brought up, but my suspicions were confirmed with this episode on just how bitter Meri is, that she can not produce more children. I agree with one of the posters that I really don't think she wants more. However, her self worth is wrapped up in the idea that she is not a real wife or woman to Kody because she can't have babies like the others.

I have met quite a few normal Morman families. I lived in Mesa, AZ for 5 years....which has a very large Morman population. There is still a large emphasis put on having a lot of babies for some Mormans. I belonged to a charity group and there was one girl in our group that was 27...gorgeous (looked just like Angelina Jolie, only with jet black hair), was an attorney, and she had just given birth to baby #8. Same with a girl I went to HS with. One of the smartest women I have ever met. She had her MBA, and died giving birth to baby number 9 a few years ago, after her doctor warned her "no more babies" after number 6. For all that we think we know about these people, we really don't know them. We don't really know what goes on behind closed doors other than what we see. So, I think Meri's anguish has been brewing for quite some time.

My theory is that Meri brought Robyn in to punish Christine. I could be way off base, but it has been eluded to quite a few times that Meri always wanted a close relationship with her sister wives and never had that until Robyn. I didn't realize that her miscarriage was not that long ago. So, when Christine got pregnant AGAIN with Truely (sp?), that sent Meri over the edge. Meri's miscarriage had not been that old when Christine got preggers again. I will also say that the smugness I see in Robyn now, I used to see in Christine. Do you remember how she used to say how her and Kody's relationship was so easy. They had the BEST marriage. Meri has eluded to many times that she and Kody went through a really bad time. So I think Meri has gone through, what Christine is now. How does Meri fix it? Well, she is going to find the hottest wife in the sect to burn Christine's marriage to the ground. She wants her to feel the pain she felt, watching the man she loves fawn all over someone else, and boy was her timing ever perfect. She knew what buttons to push with Christine. I think she LOVED watching all of this transpire.

What Meri hadn't planned on was Kody's love and devotion to Robyn. I think last season Meri was so caught up in her evil plot that she was downright GIDDY with excitement that she had taken down her rival. She didn't think ahead to what Robyn was going to do to the family, and now her rise to the top. Robyn's sense of entitlement is growing with each episode, and it seems like she and Meri are not as close now. Meri is going to reap what she sowed, and I have a feeling the harvest is going to be poisonous.

I watched a documentary on that guy that has the huge brood up in Canada with his millions of wives and children, and one of the wives was very open and said there is a LOT of jealousy. Case in point with the Browns.

    1. "My theory is that Meri brought Robyn in to punish Christine ... What Meri hadn't planned on was Kody's love and devotion to Robyn."

Anony10:50 ... I think you are onto something. I have wondered that myself. But what neither of them may have counted on is Christine's subsequent coldness. If she chose to flee and write a tell-all book (she and Janelle are the only two I'd believe), she stands to make a lot of money and get the ultimate revenge. Not that I'm condoning this, by the way.

As well, TLC is showing all of them in a less favorable light these days ... previous editing hid the growing relationship between Mary and Robyn until Mary announced her closeness with Robyn. Pre-Robyn, Christine was the favorite. Yes, Meri, but you're right ... Meri didn't count on Kody's thrill at having Robyn (who isn't a trophy wife ... she's not that hot folks ... rather uneducated if you ask me) -- Cat

    2. I'm not sure that Meri would really care all that much about having more kids at this point (41 years old) - I think it's because everyone ELSE, specifically Kody who obviously she would do ANYTHING for, is making such a big ol' deal about it. Also, they need to hang onto their TLC $$$ as long as possible, and it is a story line, so they are gonna drag it out as long as they can. IMO.

I forgot to mention...when I was watching this on my DVR, I kept having to rewind and play back that expression on Kody's face when he was told about the terms of their "creative financing" loan...I couldn't remember where I'd seen that expression before, and CJ you nailed it - Johnny Carson all the way. Although it looked funny when the late great JC was doing it...and on Kody it just looks...stupid and affected.

Still don't think Robyn is preggers. just FAT. and I think the "meeting" regarding the fitness center was filmed on the same day as the meeting with Tanya. Same exact hairstyle on Robyn, down to the headband and the bun, and the same haggard look. NOT flattering Ms. Sullivan-Jessop-Brown.

    5. Another really good perspective! Meri did seem absolutely giddy about Robyn and I think you are right that part of it was that she wanted to take Christine down a notch. It is interesting that she lost a baby 4 years ago and probably a year after that is when Christine got pregnant with Truely (and Ysabel was probably 4 or older at the time) so Meri must have just lost it then. And Meri says in the book that she and Kody (not she and Kody and the wives) were at a ‘dance’ (which I think of as speed dating for polygamists, it seems like he met 3 of his 4 wives at a dance) and Meri saw Robyn and had pointed her out to Kody (who was ‘icked out’ – his words – by Robyn being divorced)…so Meri hand selected Robyn for Kody. Christine was pregnant with Truely when Kody started courting Robyn. And who knows how much Meri might have encouraged Kody to go be with Robyn when Christine was overdue with Truely (although let’s be honest, Kody was very smitten). And then Meri is raving on camera about how Robyn is the sister wife she always dreamed of. Uh…..huge slap in the face to both Janelle and Christine.

I urge everyone to read the book to get a much more honest portrayal/view of Meri. (I did contribute to their vast wealth by buying the book and my review is on Amazon under CPA Carol. ). In her own words and the words of Janelle, you can see just how very mean spirited and bullying she can be. I call her Mean Meri due to that book and most of it was due to the stuff SHE wrote herself!
So, yes this probably was Meri’s master plan to get revenge on Christine for getting pregnant with Truely. I bet she is pretty ticked that Kody adores Robyn (“Robyn, Robyn, Robyn”) and that Robyn didn’t come and wait on her hand and foot when she hurt her leg skiing. Instead who showed up? Christine. Hmmmm.

    6. I've been watching the interaction between Meri and Robyn during the couch interviews, many times Meri has that strange 'mad' look where she stares straight ahead with a frown on her face. I sense Meri's relationship with Robyn no longer has the appeal it once had. Perhaps Meri realized that Robyn dropping in with her kids too often coincided with Meri's night with Kody and Meri had enough. Lord knows, I would NEVER want to get on Meri's bad side!

    7. Ha - CJ the camera cut to that same Meri frown when Kody went ballistic with his "I SOLD YOU THIS COUCH" ridiculous Hulk imitation to Janelle. Something tells me that this is a regular occurrence. Is that actually Janelle's couch? I thought they were in a studio.

    8. DakotaJustice - I thought the same thing! Isn't that the 'studio talking heads couch and room'? That is really one of their couches? I think he MUST have been talking to Meri "I MADE you get the couches I wanted" when they went to that resale furniture shop.

Meri was frowning at everyone this couch session. And she did have a look of outrage at that particular Kody comment. Meri does the stink eye like no other!

    9. Thanks for the welcome, Openminded. I finally figured out how to pick a name with my google account. CPACarol, when I saw the show the other night....it really seemed to add up when I saw that the miscarriage had been about a year or so before Christine got pregnant again. You can tell when Meri is crying while talking about losing the baby, that those were real emotions. I can only imagine how much resentment she has harbored over the years seeing her "sister wives" get pregnant time and time again.

I don't think Robyn is pregnant. I don't think she is fat either. I think she still has a tummy from having a big baby. However, I have a feeling that if Meri ever decided to start taking surrogate thing seriously...what do you want to bet that Robyn would end up pregnant again and wouldn't be able to offer up her uterus. Meri isn't that stupid though. I think that Robyn will be giving Kody more babies because this will keep him tied to her until his eyes move on to someone else.

I think for years, Meri was whispering in Kody's ear what a bad person Christine was and Kody wouldn't bite. Then Robyn came along and Meri was able to say "see, I told you so....she is ruining the family." I have a feeling that behind closed doors Meri has made it known that she is the only real wife.

  19. YAY! How cool this morning to see that **I** (or rather the horse I used to ride...that's where I got the name :) ) got a mention in the Episode Synopsis :)

champagne taste on a tap water budget. Maybe a hose water budget huh? I bet the loan officer thought the Browns were rolling in Reality TV Money Dough. I REALLY highly doubt the Browns are making as much as the Gosselins were at their peak. The Gosselins were getting MUCH higher numbers, of course there weren't as many families willing to whore their kids to TV for $$ back then and also we had that whole Jon G. scandal...yup yup. so much for all the folks on FB who thought that the Browns were getting paid as much as Ashton Kutcher gets for Two and a Half Men. (well maybe not THAT much, but people were saying $50k an episode...7 figures for the season...etc etc...I bet that Tanya thought the same thing too...UNTIL...she pulled their credit records and WOW...)

    http://bottomline.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/06/04/11906361-las-vegas-tops-list-of-cities-with-underwater-homeowners?lite

check this out - 71% of houses in LV are UNDERWATER...highest in the NATION...and the median price of homes is $111k! and they want FOUR 1/2 million dollar homes??? All together now "DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR..." yup yup.

not just the mortgages but since it's a new gated development, they'll have a big ol' HOA fee to pay as well...and insurance...yup.

Actually I can't take credit for finding the price - it was posted in the thread underneath the synopsis for the first show this season (you know, flying the kites at the new homestead that they told the kids that it was a SURE THING they were going to get the houses and move in ASAP). I'm hoping that the LV realtor who posted the info can tell us more - specifically if the *other* home did indeed sell or if it is also still on the market... an address would be nice as well...inquiring minds wanna know!

Now the thing about wanting Logan to stay home. My guess is that it's more for ratings and babysitting (he's SO good with the kids) as well as wanting to save $$$ on college by having him go to a local community college. But I'm also guessing that Logan is probably dying to go out on his own and escape the craziness. I'm sure Kody and Janelle will be trying to guilt him into staying for "the sake of the kids" or whatever.

(still giggling over "champagne tastes on a tap water budget..." lol)

    1. I agree w/ you about Logan. Kody & Janelle totally want him to stay @home for their own SELFISH & PERSONAL reasons, like to cook, clean, parent, babysit, plus contribute to the family finances with his job, etc...smh
I was reading an article today about 12 Signs of Emotional Abuse & GUILT TRIPs are one of them! The Browns should be ashamed of themselves for even planting the guilt seed & also having his other siblings spread it too! He's been practically raising his siblings all his life, & now its his time to shine, to leave the nest, spread his wings, & soar high & as far away possible. He was born into polygamy so he didn't have a choice, but now that he's 18 & graduated,so Logan deserves to be happy & free to choose his path in life(Guilt Free)!!

      Delete
    2. It makes me angry to think that Logan should stay at home for school. He needs to spread his wings and discover the world on his own. Kody, don't deprive your child of this defining time of his life.

    3. I also hope that Logan gets far, far away and chooses his own life's plan. I often wonder how many of the Brown children will follow in their parent's path?

  20. For me, personally, I do hope they go back to the big house in Utah. Or at least move into one big house in LV. You see, when this show started, I was really fascinated with how they all made it work as a family with one husband, three wives, and all those kids. I really wanted to see the day-to-day dynamics of a polygamist family, and especially delve into the sister wives relationships with each other. To me, I wanted it to be more about the sister wives, not about Kody's individual relationships with each wife. Like Christine says in the opening: "I wanted a family, I didn't just want a man." Now what we have is a man with three separate families, and that's a little creepy. The show has become just a bunch of little vignettes featuring Kody and a wife dealing with the issue of the moment. This episode was actually more interesting because it spent more time dealing with them as a group.

I do hope they realize that purchasing four homes is ridiculous and end up back in Utah, where they already have a big home. Perhaps they will, now that the prosecution is officially over. Perhaps that will be next season's theme (if there is a next season), showing them moving back to Utah and adding on to the house they already have and living as one big polygamist family. Then they can take the show back to why it was interesting in the first place.

  21. Great review, CJ.
You make it all so much more colorful, while clearly pointing out how crazy-bizarre they all are. Thanks !!!
Also love the Big Love references and comparisons !!!!

Janelle may be less immature in her delivery than the others, especially and including KingKody, but really I do wonder about her logic and alleged accounting skills. Her fitness business plan was basic almost to the point of being ridiculous. What she *left out* was naive and really hard to fathom.

However, Janelle strikes me as being astute enough to know how utterly clueless and lame they all do look now.
I would hope that she is embarrassed enough to at least try to look like she is smarter or *more conscious* that the rest of them.
Doubtful though that she will ever leave this madness until her younger kids are older. But she seems to be aware that going public via TLC, while being a lucrative $$ move for as long as it lasts, has depicted them all as a limited, dysfunctional side-show....rather than a long-term main attraction.

Robyn reacted like a spoiled brat at the loan meeting. I expected her to stamp her feet or dissolve into a sobbing ball.
Interesting that all the kids who could talk were expected to just suck it up when they were told that they were all leaving Lehi, and that it was going to happen within *days*. Robyn has the maturity of a 12 yr. old.

Guess she expected life to be whatever sweet-nothings Kody and she kooed to each other during the jungle sex phase. Geez, Robyn, did it ever occur to you that Kodyboy says *whatever it takes* to get what he wants.
He has had LOTS of practice in honing that skill, wouldn't you say??

But true enough, Kody the Harem Master was showing his might. He surely reared up in these episodes as the know-all, decide-all demagogue, no matter how stupid he actually looks trying to act *informed.*
God, he is SO annoying when he does that wild-eyed caveman number.
His surfer-dude, silly, metrosexual and dopey approach is much more in keeping with the KodyWorld image that TLC originally was peddling.

These ppl. are the text book example of combining huge ignorance, ego and sudden money. They went from being sort of ordinary folks living a different lifestyle to self centered, smug turds believing their own tv inspired hype.

They used to be (supposedly) concerned with the spiritual aspect of polyg, now they solely concentrate on the worldly aspects of LV living. No sharing households as a family..only separate homes will do...college? they talk as if all the kids will be going, really? got that much money left after business investments, new cars, vacations, 400g down payments, new babies.etc,etc.
They bring nothing to the viewers that reveals their lifestyle as being any different than a 4 time divorced man with a god complex and appears to already be living on another planet!

  27. During the loan meeting, you can tell Robyn is coming to the realization that she did not marry into the potential for riches and fame. I love the near outburst she had at the idea of "sharing" an affordable home with a sisterwife. What happened to "loving them through it"? I cannot wait until the raitings drop and she shows up in the tabloids, clawing at whatever face time she can get, obviously in the pits of goldigging gone horribly wrong.

    1. It's hilarious watching her, because before she joined the Kody Brown Circus she was living in a trailer from the 70´s (!!).
She obviously married him to gain wealth, fame and be Kody's favorite.

      Delete
    2. You know what I think? After reading the book, where she says her first marriage was to a man from a well regarded family who were spiritual leaders in their community (Pinesdale MT), sounds to me like she most definitely is the AUB version of a golddigger.

If they do move back to Lehi (which I think is their best recourse and storyline for next season) she will get her own home. And once the TLC gravy train ends, she will be gone to find her next hubby - this time both well connected in their faith and wealthy.

      Delete
    3. I do have a feeling that is not going to be easy. Kody does NOT seem to be pleased to say the least if something doens't go the way *he* wants. He will throw a tantrum on TV, but I wonder what he does when he's alone with one of them.

I don't think he will let his favorite wifey just leave. I don't think he really cares of Christine or Janelle would leave but it is going to be hard if Robsters wants to leave - it will be on. Especially now that she has his child, Super Sol and might be pregnant with #2.

    4. Interesting info, CJ.

Come to think of it, her entrance into the family was missing any actual details of her back story. It was all about her being a divorcee with 3 kids and then slowly little bits were offered suggesting that it was an abusive marriage...she supposedly didn't even have a crib, lived in a dismal trailer, etc.
Any real details about her ex have been by innuendo or what diligent folks have uncovered. No TLC clips or mention of her kids having any contact with their father.

Guess she really thought she had hit the pot of gold with KodyWorld.
What a letdown !! Will we eventually see her jewelry on QVC or HSN ala Marjean??

I think the Lehi re-move is likely too. Since the Vegas odyssey has been a bust, they send the older kids back to the homestead during this season. Film them all being nostalgic and teary. Have them reunite with friends there. And then have them come back to LV and plead for the family's return to Utah.

      Delete
    5. CJ - I really believe that the Browns (or TLC?) had a limited timeframe to stay in LV. Remember that ep in S2 where Christine mentioned (once they had moved into their current houses) that they had a certain number of months to get things going (whatever that meant)? I don't recall the exact verbiage or # of months - I want to say 18 months. well it's been 18 months as of this month...since they moved to LV in January. I'm guessing a big move back to Lehi is in the cards and is being considered right now, they are still in Vegas at this point I suppose but waiting until after the last ep this season to announce the move back to Lehi, just like they waited to announce Sol's birth until just before that particular episode was shown. IMO.

    6. On another thread here, there was discussion of Robyn's Victoria's Secret debt that was listed as part of her bankruptcy. So she would use credit to buy herself goodies but not use credit to buy a crib for a baby? I kind of think she just flat out made that up. I'll be honest, I was actually kind of sad for her when she said that on that episode, I was actually feeling sorry for her. (I do have some feelings!) I think she is inventing her own little story as she goes along. Poor Robyn, the wonderful single mom who birthed three babies with her daddy there because her husband was not supportive or nurturing. Poor Robyn who never had a crib for her babies (but did have a stock of nice undergarments for herself), poor Robyn who did everything she could to save her marriage. One of the reasons we don't hear from the ex-husband is that being a Jessop, he won't want the publicity from speaking out. Now that I see her little foot stomping tantrum (while in a ridiculous head band, no less!), I call crap on that whole pitiful story.

    7. Hi Everybody!

I think I heard they signed a 2 year lease, so they would be 18 months into the lease. I always thought they would be returning to Lehi someday because they never put the Lehi house up for sale.

LOL, Robyn should have pushed to sell her trinkets on QVC/HSN because I'm beginning to doubt that online will ever be open for business. And as Marjean found out, there's a lot of money to be made in TV sales. But unlike Marjean, Robyn has no marketing brand outside of being a sister wife. That's why not having that online store ready for business while the show is being aired is such a major business failure!

    8. PtoM and CJ, if your predictions are correct, Robyn will find out how hot she's not as a TV commodity. The fascination with this story, for me, is how they make this work on any level. I would watch Janelle and Christine make a go of it for a while, but not too long. I actually do wish they'd all get houses, paid-for, so they are financially ok. The people to really get hurt here are the children.

CJ, don't forget -- The lawsuit is going to heat up in a year, even without the investigation. That announcement was too late, the federal rulings had already been made, and that thing is marching on. That means the Browns can go to court, pretend they're scared, and so on. And, don't forget all those sworn documents in Utah. I wouldn't touch the place, if I were a Brown.

    10. Margene on BL was cute, sweet, charming in her ditzy way, and funny. She didn't "create" the jewelry - remember she wanted something to sell, something to do and she became friendly with the wife of the tribal chief I remember...who had jewelry created by the Native Americans...a good product that she was able to sell.

Robyn is none of those things (cute, sweet, charming OR funny) and her jewelry is less than terrific - the chain on the ones they showed on the air looks like one of those cheap ones that is in danger of tangling up or breaking any moment. ugh. Robyn is no Chan Luu.

      Delete
    11. PBF - maybe i'm not understanding this correctly but isn't the lawsuit now being pushed by the Browns rather than the gov't as per the judge? I really don't think the Browns EVER had anything to worry about, other than the possibility of losing their regular jobs. From what I've read, there are a LOT of polygamists in Utah and as long as they aren't doing anything else illegal, then they have no fear of persecution.

      Delete
    12. The Browns has let GREED con$ume them all & it's now blindly controlling their lives in all aspects!...smh
Now, that they all have experienced living in separate, somewhat "luxury" homes (sure beats Utah, etc..) it will be hard emotionally for them to wanna "mesh" & blend all of families to function as "one" family under the same roof! But, we all know that it will eventually come to that, esp when the TLC & LIV $$ are depleted. Guess they could always sell that unnecessary ridiculous Christmas gift they splurged for Kody...Lol
SHAME ON U, BROWNS for thinking that ya'll are TOO GOOD to live in more affordable housing & actN like ya'll deserve to be treated like real A-list celebrities!
My home state & some surrounding states are in Tornado Alley & every year hundreds-thousands homes are destroyed by mother nature & families are literally left homeless & are forced to stay in shelters,& w/ friends & families til they can get on their feet, bcuz they have lost EVERYTHING & are forced to literally pick up the pieces & start over! Sometimes,in hard hit areas, FEMA brings in trailers for the families, so they can have their own space & work towards rebuilding their lives. I can tell you they are extremely grateful for these trailers, bcuz it gives them a temp. place to call home! So start living within ur means & don't be whining & throwing fits all bcuz ur not getting a craft room or may have to share with your sisterwives! Afterall, ya'll do share Kody & his sperm (ewwwwww...) so housing should be simple!

  29. Great review CJ, thank you!!

Great comments from everyone here. Interesting to read.

Samantha, your comments above are so true. Janelle does NOT have a passion for opening a fitness center!! Janelle does not have a passion for fitness!! I've worked in the fitness business for over 20 yrs as a personal trainer and yoga teacher. I've seen chains/franchaises come and go, people come and go. You have to have passion for it, starting with being in good shape and having a healthy lifestyle (or at least the desire to do so) Janelle has neither of those. Gyms suck the money right out of your pockets.
My friend just bought a gym that went into foreclosure (was a multimillion $$ gym)-he got it for $50K on the auction block. His attorney&acct have advised him to tear it down and sell the land, saying the land will bring in more $$ than a gym ever will. They are correct!

Many here have talked for a long time about how Janelle is the smart one. I have never seen it. JMO but I think she is just as clueless as the rest of them. The business plan was a joke, calling someone for websites to look at fitness equip?? where was that in her budget btw? And if she knows so much about finances, she would have known not to even go after those houses when she pulled together their paperwork. She should have known what the monthly payments were going to look like and told Kody 'no way we can do this'. Instead, she sat there looking completely shocked, like she has no idea.
I personally think the loan officer was a fake/scripted. I think Mona knew they could not get these houses, told TLC, and they scripted the whole thing to get them out of this 'storyline'. It gave Kody an 'out' (oh, the other house was sold, otherwise, we would have tried to buy them, not our fault kids!). I'd really like to know from the realtor that's posted here if they know when that one house sold (please and thank you!).
I think it's all part of the script to have a dramatic cliffhanger move back to UT and a bid for one more season!

    2. Janelle seems to know just enough to be dangerous. She knows to find a template to create a business plan, but was that just for family? Researching to find sites that offer prices is good for a reference, but I really think that 22,500 for the startup is extremely low. My husband has a practice that we started. It was MUCH more than 22500 and we didn't have to buy 5-10 of every machine. It goes back to those word problems in school when you have to ask yourself "does this answer make sense?" $22500 as a startup seems way too low. Maybe they were still (at that supposed time, I think this meeting was just filmed last week), figured on an investor. My husband and I just laughed at $2.25 per foot and 1000 members.

On the plus side, I am not obese, but after four kids, plump. I would love to go to a fitness center where I am not the fattest person. As Dakota mentioned, our Curves here all closed due to bad management and too many too close together. Our Y, which is beautiful, intimidates me when I go in. Our trainers do also. It is all full of "the beautiful people." So, if there were a center like that I would go.

    3. Samantha - that is exactly why I became a Group X instructor - and why I love teaching the formats I teach (Group Power (barbell conditioning class) and spinning/cycling) - I used to be the same weight as Janelle and I know EXACTLY how you feel, and I will NEVER treat someone differently because of their weight since I've been there and I know how hard it can be to even set foot in the door of ANY gym. I have participants in my classes that are all different sizes and fitness levels and I will NEVER discriminate against them, and I have a warm word and hug for ALL of them.
there MUST be a place out there, not necessarily a Curves, where you can feel comfortable...you are SO not alone! ((((hugs))))

That's what appealed to me about the idea they had. Starting that in this economy is silly. I could actually see the wisdom in "riding up the wave" with housing, but it will be a long time before a lot of the free spending and gym memberships come back to the economy.

  30. Whoa, was just in Twitter ville, & it seems that Kody & Janelle are in Huntington Beach, CA for some "alone time" & a lot of their fans seem to be asking pretty much the same suggestive questions: Why don't they just build one big house? Move back to Lehi & expand, etc...Hmmmm? More traveling & get-a-ways instead of saving $$ for their new homes & yet they still wonder why financial failures & empty promises seem to be relevant & constant in their lives.

Kody's Tweet:" In California with Janelle to have some time alone together. Didn't get to see the episodes. I hope everyone enjoyed them"

Ya'll know that Robyn loves the spotlight to be on her all the time,so here's a few Robyn tweets, which IMO are defense mechanism therapy for her to help cope w/ all the crazy emotions that tend to get all stirred up & oh yeah, helps her to keep sweet..lol One of her tweets, it's an instagram pic of a poem that she dedicated to Kody (eyes rolling) + IMO, he's the boy in the poem, not the Man...

Robyn's Tweets: " Who enjoyed the episodes this week? Who can't wait for Meri t make up her mind? She is killing me;)"

"One of those days where I miss my mom like crazy & I want to go play hooky in my hometown for a few days"

Yes, Robyn we know! Ur insensitivity & badgering is killing us! Now please give it a rest & let Meri make the decision whenever she's ready! Also, it seems Robyn has formed a pattern. Whenever Kody is away traveling alone w/ one of the wives, then Robyn always seems to want to get the hell out of dodge, instead of spending "quality" time w/ her sister wives! Hey Robyn, why don't U work on getting ur Sister Wife's Closet website up & running already!!

Their tweets are revealing. Robyn always tweets when Kody is out of town with another wife. The whole I need to go see my mommy tweet is just pitiful. Meri usually tweets something self-serving and lecturing ('don't judge me'). Janelle's tweets are almost always business related (hey, read our book! come see us for LIV conference) and Kody's are either "hey love that free Mexican food I get at my favorite restaurant" or defensive "if you judge me, I block you, be nice' Christine rarely tweets so not as much insight on hers.

My daughter, watching with me, said "it will take her 10 years to lose 10 pounds!" and I agree. She and her trainer need to watch The Biggest Loser to see how it's done. Janelle can't go on the show because they would make her tell why she's overweight during the heart to hearts and she can't do that.

Kody cannot stick to anything. Even in sales, I don't think he'd be very good because he'd never get around to closing the deal. I don't get what he did for money before this show. Does anybody know?

    4. SO MUCH WORD about Janelle's workout! Trainer Bill has a great bod and nice haircut and looks like a trainer, but he's doing a half-ass job. I'm not saying to go Biggest Loser on Janelle, but if what we see on TV is indicitive of her workout then Mr. Trainer B. needs to get her to kick it up a notch. Janelle needs to find another gym and a different trainer (and while she's at it, maybe watch that HBO special Weight of the Nation that just aired a few weeks ago). or find some exercise she genuinely loves to do...I'd recommend finding a Group Power barbell conditioning class and taking it 2x a week for a month or so while cutting back on the calories a little - she would definitely see results :) and faster than with ol' Trainer B.

  32. Wow, great synopsis as always Cynical Jinx, I still don't feel comfortable calling you (CJ) because I haven't been posting here long enough, but I've been lurking for years.

Perfect rationale in regards to the editing of these two episodes...makes so much more sense to match "Valentines/ baby making" and "mansion pipe dreams/fake business" pursuits

-Daddy dance so disturbing with the girls' even little savannah painted up for the dance. I think if the girls were getting ready at Christine's or Janelle's they would not have gone "full glitz"

-Kody totally got flowers mixed up for Robchin and Christine because the roses on the florist counter he points out, "Christine loves the purple, these are for Christine" ended up handed to Robchin. Don't you love the dry, hard, forced pecks given to each wife as he forces the roses in their hands? Yuck!

-Kody really acting so mean on both episodes...I thought he was going to explode when arguing about business and him warning about BANKRUPTCY was biggest laugh out loud moment of all.

-But the failed houses I knew was a pipe dream or just a production stunt because when the season opened they were still on the market and way out of their price range unless the show was buying them. With their credit history and the fact that NO ONE WORKS, it played out just as I thought, I was surprised there was any kind of deal finagled at all.

-Why are these kids brought together in this huge forum to build up their hopes and then to confirm it was yet another disappointment. I agree with all others before me, these financial details are way over their heads and so inappropriate to share.

-But here Kody himself confirms that he has an "excuse out" of his own delusions...alas the 4th house has sold. Problem solved...onto the next delusion.

I was the person that found the house listings...at first I didn't feel comfortable giving addresses...still on the fence, and again I'm not sure this all wasn't staged by TLC as I have no direct confirmation of the house deal or that they put in an offer. All I did was a little research on multiple listings and up pops the same exact pictures before house was completed. And the knowledge that good old Mare's old green convertable is still in her driveway as of May 10th, the last time I visited Las Vegas.

  33. I read the book and wondered if perhaps Kody selected Janelle as a wife due to her ablility to provide financial support (i.e. job) to the family? Kody and Meri both describe themselves as young and carefree and not able to stay with a job for any length of time. It was also stated that it wasn't a tradtional "love affair". I feel he saw it as a means to and end to keep Meri happy financially.

    1. Janelle was living in a teepee on their property in Wyoming when they got married. So that doesn't sound like a serious career woman at that point in her life. (remember, they were all pretty young). I have always guessed that since Meri couldn't conceive and that they had already decided to live The Principle, they might as well take a 2nd (and then quickly a 3rd) wife so that they would then be 'blessed' and Meri would finally get pregnant. I think that's the way they were thinking at that time. God wouldn't bless them until they were living as a plural family and the fact that Janelle got pregnant pretty quickly, then Christine got pregnant right away and then eventually fairly quickly after that, Meri got pregnant with Mariah...I think they thought they had received the 'approval' and were going to all crank out kids in rapid succession. But alas, it was not to be for Meri and she took her anger out on Janelle (the book is very clear on that) and I guess at some point Janelle figured out she better find a way to make a living because the others weren't willing to do it and after a huge fight with Meri after her youngest was born, Janelle moved out, got a degree in accounting and got her life together. Unfortunately for her, Kody somehow talked her into coming back. So, I think "they" decided to marry Janelle and Christine in order to get the blessing that they wanted....lots of children for Meri. And that didn't work out at all they way they planned. Lots of babies, but just one for Meri.

  34. This train certainly has taken a U turn from the beginning. Where they all were happy to have the kids running around from home area to home area. I found it extremely odd that the kids only think of themselves as "friends" now. Really? After spending the majority of their life together, and only living no more than a mile apart? Many of us have step children, others living away. They still are brother and sister love!LOL

  36. Dear TLC,
I would love to watch and promise to tune in for an episode where Mr. Kody Brown gets his hair cut. I'm willing to give you the idea for free in exchange of real entertainment. Wishfully hoping, me <3

I'm new to this blog and love it. I initially started watching/reading out of curiosity to learn more about polygamy. But now that I've learned so much about this particular family I really feel torn on whether to watch. Kody is an abuser who obviously charms people enough to give a show. He never looks at his wives or the camera while the women talk because he doesn't want to give away his true emotions. And how sad that they've trained their kids to not talk about what goes on at home. I guarantee that's not just because of polygamy being illegal. Robyn is a witch, she has the face for it too. Christine is such a good mom and I hope that she is able to empower herself while they have the tlc money and runs with her kids. They deserve better. He doesn't just treat Truly like a second class kid. It's all of her kids. It's also a matter of time before Janelle leaves. And meri needs to recognize her self worth. But based on the last episode I doubt she will take Robyn's offer.
And about the haircut - I would love to watch him cry over it because I bet those would be real tears. On the other hand, watching him act like a sport would be great because he'll have to hold his emotions in just like his three wives have had to do for nearly two decades. Don't worry kodsturd, cutting your hair won't take away your sperminator powers.

Ps---I'm sure it's more than tlc reading our posts.

    2. The problem is Meri can't stand Christine and I'm pretty sure she can't stand Janelle either. Robyn doesn't want to share a house with any of her sister wives. So the only two wives who I see willing to share a house with each other are Janelle and Christine, but they have 12 children between them so it would have to be a huge house, like the one they had in Lehi.

Is it just me or is anyone else getting the vibe that Christine and Janelle are fed up with King Kody?

      Delete
    3. Right. We know that. BUT, they live this lifestyle because "it makes them all better persons", it's supposed to be a superior way of living with, granted, some rough times and there are problems, nobody's perfect, they're only human after all, blah, blah, blah. They're on this show to show us how they live, and right now, even if they are not squeamish about sharing a man (because they're used it and it's what god wants them to do), it's looking very much like they are each very much enjoying living in separate houses...... so their whole point of going on the show was what, exactly? Prove us naysayers all wrong, or to have their family go to pieces on TV? I would so LOVE to hear Anne Wilde's opinion on this LOL! She must be so furious! I wonder if she and Christine talk on the phone?

      Delete
    4. Yikes. I would hate to wish that on Janelle and Christine. Can you imagine sharing a home with Meri or Robyn? LMAO!! That pretty much sums it all up...so true & so funny, I love it!

It wasn't that long ago we all saw Robyn giving Meri hell because Meri said she liked having her own space. Now Robyn gets all High & Mighty about possibly having to share?!? Quick Kody, Robyn's developing quite the nasty little attitude, you better do something before she gets completely outta hand like Christine....maybe you could see if her old mobile home is still available or better yet stick her in Janelle's old Tee Pee! That'll teach her!

I was confused by Robyn's belly- just because if you look back at our pictures on here, she was FLAT, right after the baby. Maybe they had photo chopped her.

Another thing--when Christine's daughter said she did not want polygamy for herself (the one who invited Logan to the dance because she wanted a date to herself), Christine said, "How can you know that at such a young age?!" but you know damn well if the girl had said "I know I want polygamy for myself" Christine would have said "That's my girl!". They are so full of it when they say they want whatever will make the kids happy. It just isn't true and I don't know why they can't admit that. Almost all religious people (I think) want their kids stay in their religion of origin. It's not like that's weird or something.

    2. Yes, Christine has the farthest to fall. She totally believed in this lifestyle and now the cat is out of the bag and she doesn't know what to do. At least the others who were not raised this way have it somewhere in their heads that there is another way to live. Christine has many kids, no education, and, it seems, no real friends with whom to figure things out.

    3. While they (Christine's folks) did leave the Allred Group years before they were divorced, they did not necessarily do it to be permanently monogamous. I understood that both later did live in polygamous marriages. Maybe I understood.

    1. I agree with you. Janelle is biding her time. It's so obvious that she checked out emotionally long ago. Robin is going to bolt as soon as the TLC gravy train comes to a halt. In my estimation, this may well be their last season. I was under the impression that TLC and the Brown's were using this show as a venue present polygamy in a positive light. Both the network and Brown's are failing miserably at it. It is becoming painfully sickening to watch these people week after week making complete fools of themselves. I can barely stand to watch any scene with Kody in it. He is so condescending and controlling. I hate that look he gets on his face, whenever any of his wives has an opinion that differs from his. I gives me the creeps. It reminds me of my abusive ex-boyfriend. I wouldn't even be the least bit surprised if Kody is physically abusive with these women from time to time. I think there is a ton of edited footage of Kody having angry meltdowns. That wouldn't bode well for the 'polygamy is bliss' message that the network and the Brown's are trying to send. I think that explains the huge gaps in time on the show. Honestly, I think Christine is slowly beginning to wake up, too. Unfortunately, she is so entrenched in polygamy that she'll never leave the 'principle' entirely. If she leaves Kody, she'll just end up with another AUB man who has a bunch of wives and kids.

      Delete
    2. Janelle may move out, but I don't think she'll ever "divorce" Kody. Growing up LDS, the early failure of Janelle's first marriage was probably enough to lable her as damaged goods among her community. That nailed the coffin on her "free choice" for her future. That anyone would marry her again, period, was probably enough for her. I would be willing to believe that she will raise her kids and live relatively independently and be just fine with that--I doubt she expects much more from Kody (physicaly, emotionally, or financially), than she gets from him.

      Delete
    3. Linnet,
She doesn't have to divorce him; they aren't married. She can walk away and there probaby wouldn't even be a custody battle because is already married and will have a difficult time proving that he has supported her kids. He refers to them as Janelle's kids. So. She can just walk away.

I don't believe that Kody is that broken up over an early miscarriage that happened four-years-ago.Especially, when he doesn't even seem too interested in his living children...well, except for Solomon, the wonder baby. If he's trying to get sympathy from the viewers, it's too little too late. A few fake tears aren't going to redeem him. He's already proven that he is a self-centered bully.

      Delete
    3. I can kinda believe he was upset. While I don't think he's a good father, I think he's in love with the idea of having more children. So I think he could be upset over a loss and I bet pregnancies kinda excite him. Too bad once the kid's out, he's no longer interested until the next kid comes along. The tears were prob his sadness over "I could've had another kid!" I feel its not so much a loss of the kid that makes him sad but possibly the loss of the number? Hope I'm not outta line here.

  46. Okay, they are driving me nuts: First, when I had my two babies, and they were real close in age, my husband (now ex-husband)was not dependable. I worked and knowing that I couldn't afford the baby crib all new, I began looking for good used baby furniture. Robyn-No-character give me a break. If you didn't have a crib for your other children, shame on you. Most religious organizations would have happily given you one or you could have got one from a friend or from a thrift store. But, we find out that you spent thousands on victoria secret underwear: Please bitch. I don't feel sorry for you. And I am not buying your little tweets for one minute. You are playing a passive agressive game with Kodsturd to force him to pay attention to you while he is with Janelle. I hope he has turned his phone off.

And, having these clowns move back to Utah is about the smartest thing to do. I promise you Kodsturd got his families all up in arms to move because Robyn-No-Character needed to be in closer proximity to her mother. So, he uproots all three wives and their children to satisfy that witches need to have her own life catered to over the other wives' lives.

I am also really happy to see that you are seeing your life of greatness isn't going to become a reality. Did you really think this reality gravy train was going to make you a household name? Maybe a household joke. Give me a break. You are, I'm certain, thinking what the fuck have I done to myself. Here I am with this balding fat middle aged man and his three fat wives and all these screaming kids and no one acknowledges how "special" I am, and I cannot even manipulate them.
I look for her to leave them all soon. But, I hope that Janelle and Christine leave. If the two left, my faith in the two as being the most decent of the bunch would be restored.

Finally, the Kodsturd is a bully and an idiot. He pushes his wives around to get his way and even his children walk on egg shells to keep him appeased. I believe he knows his days on the show are limited so he is trying his best to grift as many people as he can. In the mean time, Kodsturd get Janelle to read these posts to you because we know you are an idiot--a sign salesman indeed. My redneck cousin at least sold cars and he was the one of all of my cousins that had the most trailer trash of ways. Sign salesman. Good grief what a moron.

He will only do what he needs to give each wife the bit of happiness enough to stay. If one decides to leave, then he will wine and dine them to get them to be happy again. Once they are happy again, it starts back to ground zero and who does he have to wine and dine next.

Remember if they leave, they are weak and going againt their religious beliefs. So they have to stay because failure would be their fault - not his.

I think that Kody got excited about it because last season they these meetings with potential investors and their trainer and looking at potential properties, etc, so I think if Kody wants something, he convinced his wives to get on board. So now, after getting Janelle all excited about this idea and putting some effort into making it happen, he suddenly comes to his senses and puts all the stops on it, much to her disappointment. And what happened their realtor licences? They just seem to be drifting in all directions with no plan! I don't get it! You'd think just taking care of all these kids and studying for the realtor license would be enough to keep them busy, no? Also, if the own the Utah home, why aren't selling that? That could be their down payment right there! And finally, in the middles of all this uncertainty, is this REALLY the time to be spending money and time and emotional energy into in vitro? Really?

My guess is that there wouldn't be nearly enough remaining to use as a down payment on the new homes in LV after satisfying the mortgage on that house. If that's the case, it would be more practical to keep collecting the rent from the Lehi house. (It was my understanding that they were renting it out to an AUB family.)

A lot of my thoughts have been published here already.. but.. what a mish mash... a lot of random things put together to "make" an episode... only 20 minutes on top of that! The whole valentine car thing was so pathetic, I have no words.

I did notice though: no skin tight long sleeve tees with ill-fitting tank tops. Yay for swb!

Did anyone notice, that when Kody was giving reasons why he rejected Janelle's business plan his face was turning more and more red? I saw an anger outburst coming!

I do hope Janelle goes through with her idea though. I hope she can get some real income for herself.

How in the world do those people think they can get (great) financing if they all have had bankruptcies and _none_ of them work? Only in Kody B. world.

Yes I did notice Janelle and Christine seem to be fed up with King K. A lot. He probably promised them that in turn for doing the tv show they would be famous and did not have to work and would just having money roll in here and there and could use their fame to set up some low energy investment businesses and use their fame to keep money flowing in from that as well. He probably also promised them better housing and quality of life. He failed them on all of that and boy do they know it.

  52. I watch the show, the train wreck, every week. I cannot believe the selfishness of these 5 adults! I want a huge beautiful house on lots of land too. However, I don't a huge house payment to go with it. The way Kody just pushes his wives ideas, dreams, hopes to the side make my stomach lurch. Do I think that opening a fitness center is a good business investment for these particular people? Well, no.. but don't just run over your wife/ves and say "I AM KING KODY AND THIS IS MY COMMAND". Listen to them, discuss with them. As for the living in 4 double wides somewhere in the desert.. well.. honestly, they have some pretty nice mobile homes out there now a days and that might be the most affordable and realistic idea. Or 2 duplexes with a huge common building in the middle. Meri only needs a 2 bedroom home, maybe 3... why would she need a grand house such as what they were looking for? If they really are a "family", you make sacrifices for the betterment of your family. I just don't understand the selfishness. My family was low income, both parents were disabled and we still managed to have a decent home in a decent neighborhood, food on the table (hey, we couponed before couponing was cool), and all of our needs provided. We did that by living within our means. They must figure TLC is going to pick them up another decade to fulfill their wants - 4 new houses, fertility tx (IVF is $$$$$), several business ventures... what about college for the kids?
I don't even know why I watch the dang show anymore. I did originally to try and understand why someone would choose this lifestyle. I still don't understand it. 55. No offense to those who suffer from ADD, but do Kody and his wives all have ADD? It doesn't seem as if they have the ability to focus on one issue at a time. Is it just me or do they seem to get bored with projects or they can't seem to keep their focus when they hit a snag. Seriously. There's the real estate license project. What happened to that? Then, there's LV, the online jewelry store, the consignment shop, the fitness center, trying to buy four houses and now there's fertility treatments in the works? I consider myself a fairly well rounded organized person, but even I would have trouble trying to juggle THREE major life altering projects at one time. They have all this stuff going on. They should pick two projects and see those to completion before moving on to a new one. Establishing a stable income (outside of their TLC income) should be at the top of their priority list.We all know that the TLC gig is not going to last forever.

At this point in her life, I have a hunch that Janelle would have been a very successful business woman with a six figure income if she had never gotten mixed up with Kody Brown in the first place. Everything Kody touches turns to crap. If Janelle could muster the confidence to do it, she could completely get the upper hand with Kody. She just needs to get the courage to do it. After all, she has far more brains than him as well as her accounting experience. She, not Kody, understands assets and liabilities. She needs to tell him that she knows what she's doing and that he needs to back off. It's his stupid decisions that keep placing the family in financial dire straits, and ultimately, bankruptcy.

Kody & Meri!!! Double UGH!!! How old are they? They're in their 40s and they can't talk about sex?!!! OMG!!! We all got here because our parents were having sex. Dah!!That's how babies are made. Is sex personal? It should be. That's why one doesn't invite the SW camera crew to tape the consultation with the fertility specialist. Dah, again!!! Of course the specialist is going to ask questions about how often they have sex. Again, that's how babies are made. Triple Dah!! So, Kody thinks that having sex once a month is enough to conceive? In theory it only takes one time to get pregnant. But timing is crucial if ovulation is irregular. Quadruple Dah!! Meri should have invested in a few OTC ovulation predictor kits years ago. Clear Blue Easy has had one on the market, since the early 90s. I don't really think Meri wants a baby because she has a need to love and care for a child. I think she just wants to one up Robyn.

  56. Dear TLC, Kodsturd, Robyn-No-Character, Meri, Christine, and Janelle:
With reluctance, I began watching SW. From the beginning, I realized that TLC did not do its homework on the Brown family, and I also realized that the show would peak quickly and fade as quick. For the producers, there are ways to save this wreck: 1) show much less of RNC, Meri, and Kodsturd; 2) let Christine and Janelle lead the show; 3) get Janelle and Christine into a a house together and let Janelle do what she does best and Christine do what she does best; and finally, wives stop trying to convince us that SW makes you better and your jealousy makes you better.

Instead of trying to convince us of how morally superior you guys are because of the whole polygamy, show us your true feelings and what you want to do and how you can come out of this mess. More importantly, any money that you make, save it in an account that only you can get to. Don't let the others talk you into contributing your saved money into their budget. Get your realestate license or a nursing license or become a CPA and situate yourselves to do better for your children. ( realize that all of these require some schooling and int he case of nursing and CPA, a lot of schooling, but think of it in terms of you are going to either go through this life doing nothing or you can do something that can give you independence.

I volunteer to work on-call for an abused women's shelter: I spend time assisting the women filling out resumes, writing cover letters, applying for social service programs, and trying helping them to get into college. Christine, you remind me of those women. They are sad, dependent, and hopeless save their connections to the men in their lives. If you cannot save yourself for you, save yourself for your children---especially your girls.

And Janelle, if you cannot see that you have been the main provider for this entire family, you should take some more accounting classes. Sincerely, your life should account for more than Kodsturd's mule.
    That is all.

  57. The owed 417,000 at LEAST on the Lehi home in 2008 which hasn't been paid off. 2012 Market Data has it worth 295,000. 8 Bdrms, 2.75?? baths. It states it's 2850 Sq. feet. (do you all think it would be more with the basement??) Look on Zillow or Trulia, there are a TON of properties that are duplex fixer uppers in LV(gasp), and many reasonable places. Why do they now need mansions when systematically the kids will be OUT!

  58. Hi Everyone!

Great comments so far! Just a reminder, though....

Personal information - even if its available to the public on the internet - will not be made public on Sister Wives Blog.

There were a couple of comments that had links to the county recorder's office, which not only provided pictures, but other information that could be considered "sensitive" in nature. Unfortunately, those comments will not be published.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  59. I actually liked this week's episode about the homes and the gym business. It really might have been the first time that Kody was ever confronted with objective facts and numbers in the face of his pipe dreams, and a double whammy...houses and gym business. It was just icing on the cake that it was women delivering the news.

I really think it would be interesting to see this happen with the next pipe dream. Or maybe an episode about the death spiral associated with MLM strategies? Or have a consultant walk them through the process of manufacturing, inventory, and the technical aspects of the "sister wives closet" storefront? Just seeing Kody's head about to pop off when faced with hard facts about wild dreams would make it worth it.

It's like an intervention of sorts for someone who is addicted to the adrenaline of spending money and coming up with hairbrained adventures.

Kody really is the Wile E Coyote of polygamists, constantly trying to catch up with the "Get Rich Quick" Roadrunner.

  60. So Robin started (sort of) an online jewellery store (My sister wife's closet). That was probably someone else's (a producer?) idea for a job for her, since she obviously has no schooling beyond high school so she has no other marketable skills. They've written a book. They're in some pyramid business that probably approached them because of their fame and polygamist contacts. If Meri decides to start her own designer pyjama line, Christine decides to record a cd of traditional mormon folksongs or sell some home-made mormon jam or something, and Janelle becomes a new spokesperson for Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig or a contestant on Celebrity apprentice then that will be the end of me watching the show. But I would watch Kody or Janelle on Celebrity Apprentice, for different reasons, though :-)

    1. I would love to see the Browns on Celebrity Apprentice or Biggest Loser. Someone let the Brown family know that the proceeds from Celebrity Apprentice go to CHARITY, not them. I'm all for Janelle getting smoking hot from Biggest Loser, leaving, and getting her CPA.

    2. It doesn't have to be BL but I would definitely like to see Janelle get healthier and lose some real weight! I just don't think they would do BL due to their modesty issues. I can't see her agreeing to even wear shorts and a T-shirt let alone strip down to a sports bra for the weigh in. Jeez...

  61. Hey Browns, I just got a text from Tattoo & he said that ya'll have overstayed your welcome on Fantasy Island & ur all access pass has been denied! HA!!

  62. Some of you may already be aware & in the know, but I just came across this info while researching SW in TV GUIDE. Another episode that will be aired next week along with "No Place Like Home" is "Brown Boys Do Vegas".
In this episode, 'Kody's 3 brothers visit LV, where they ride motorcycles, visit a biker bar & shoot guns.'
Wow, this should be quite interesting! Filming all that Browns' testosterone & egos, & Kody will be in all his glory letting his hair blow in the wind while riding & shooting his brand new gun too...(rolling eyes) I just wonder how the wives reacted to Kody cruising the biker bar?? Hahaha...I'm sure they really didn't appreciate it too much, & I'm sure they put their game faces on for the cameras & couch sessions tho...
Also, next Sunday, 6/17 which is Father's day, gonna be the season finale already? I can't find anymore New listings for SW past 6/17, so I'm assuming its the season finale. Which is titled, "Brown Family Confessions"
The Browns' teenager children join their parents for a question-and-answer session with viewers about plural marriage.

"TRIPLE SIGH" bcuz we all know how shady they are about Q&A. It's really a total waste of time, bcuz they pass on questions that we all really wanna know,or give pathetic explanations as to why they're not gonna answer a question. Even when they attempt to answer some questions, they respond w/ a rhetorical question. Often, they beat around the bush giving 1/2 ass answers, or answer same questions that have been asked & answered over the past few seasons on talk shows!

If this is the season finale, then its not really going out w/ much of a bang! UNLESS, TLC will try to deceivingly HOOK & BAIT us w/ an announcement in the end, that Robyn is pregnant(again) or if Meri has reluctantly agreed & decided to go w/ the surrogacy or Moving back to Lehi(which will be a trainwreck itself, bcuz we all know that's the last thing the wives wanna do!....Lol
Oh yeah, I just thought about another reason, they may decide to move back to Lehi, is if Logan decides to go to college in Utah, then the Browns would still have easy "access" to him & still would try to utilize him to help out w/ the family. I sure hope he goes to a bigger university so he can put some distance between them, so he can live in the dorms & have a true Freshman college experience!
Best Wishes to Logan & his future!

  63. i sat up last night and read everyone's comments, some pretty funny comments and LOL @ Pie the cat. Flavor flav i burst out laughing laughing at that thank you.. Everyone has good points that make a lot of sense. I read somewhere that they have dropped the charges and im thinking to myself, WOW they did all that, moved to L.A, lost their jobs and created all this havoc for nothing.

  64. North American standards for how much room a family needs are just crazy. their former house in Lehi for all 3 family's is actually smaller thatn the single homes they're looking at now.
Also I can't help thinking that Janelle and Christine think that Kody is a douche bag especially when he's sitting there getting misty eyed about dreams that weren't fullfilled and there's Meri and Robyn on the verge of tears and I swear on the other side of Kody Janelle looked like she wanted to laugh!

    1. Not my standards - I'm perfectly happy in the one-bedroom apt I've lived in for 14+ years. Lol
I was thinking about this last night - the fam moving back to the old house. I think Janelle and Christine would be ok with it. Meri might have a few issues, but she'd adjust. The kids (and I think really the three original wives too) would be happy to be back amongst their neighbors and school friends and church.

The only real unhappy ones would be...Robyn and Kody. It was clear on Sunday that they were fully expecting to get a giant home. And with the TLC $$ running out, it's going to be out of their reach to put *another* addition on the home for Robyn, I'm guessing. Cheaper and more practical to get a double-wide and place it on the property - they do have an acre to use.

And yup - I think that everyone would start losing weight.

    2. They used to be content with a whole lot less. Remember Kody saying something among the line of "the life and lifestyle they were looking for"?
In Lehi, before the "fame" they were just happy with what they had now Kody feels entitled to some very expensive, huge homes. Not with the amount of space they actually _need_, rather one huge house per wife.

ps; I am pretty sure they do read this blog, wonder if the ladies ever dare to say out loud: swb got it spot on with Kody

  65. And the Meryl Streep award for best crying in every single seen of episode five goes to......DOUCHIE BROWN!!!!!YAY!!!clap clap...except for evangelists on TV I've never seen a grown man cry so much!
Also in episode 6 at the Valentine's dance were the Browns the only family there and what was up with Kody's dancing/galloping????

  66. Great recap, as always, CJ! I love all of the comments too.

I felt like I recognized the loan officer, Tanya, from a commercial or other TV. Anyone else or just me?

  67. I agree Janelle looked like she wanted to laugh when the housing fell through. Comical amusement at Kodsturd and fellow sisterwives' stupidity is half her reason for staying in the marriage.

  68. I saw those descriptions on TLC, too, and wondered if the group Q&A was the season finale. It seems like the season finales (and openers) are almost always an hour. If they just ‘end’ with a Q&A (and only answer softball questions like usual), that will be a major disappointment. That would mean they don’t even have a story line to end the season with.

Seriously, we need to see Kody “playing” again with other grown men? Didn’t they do that last season when he did the boxing thing, etc with his three buddies including Trainer Bill who Kody has since apparently ticked off? They are already repeating this silliness? I think we ALL have seen enough of Kody playing around. In fact, that appears to be all that he does. Play, travel, plan romantic trips, get new cars (due to his wife’s work for LIV), get an assault rifle, get a laptop (and then pout because it felt like ‘work’ for him to get such an unthoughtful gift), get a bunch of freebies for himself (Mexican restaurant!) and his wives (free flowers!, free fertility discussions with medical professionals!, free date nites!)…..TLC, what the viewers would seriously like to see is Kody actually WORKING!! Not having ‘meetings’ with the wives where he scolds them for their business ideas, not calling together the children and promising them $800,000 worth of houses they never had a chance of affording, not lamenting about not having instant access to his children, not trying to get Meri to have invitro or surrogacy that she clearly does not want, not fake/constipated crying, not complaining that they are polygamists face discrimination and persecution…we want and expect that this grown man with 4 wives and 17 children GET A JOB!!!
