Discussion Page for 8/6/13 with Surprise Tweets!

I miss Ezra...and his Hammon eyebrows.
Well, maybe not really surprise tweets, but it got your attention, right?

Looks like Kody's Sister Wives are taking a road trip to San Francisco, with the only male being little King Sol.

But wait, how much you want to bet Kody FLEW to San Francisco! What a man! And I'm sure the footage on this trip will appear on their show in about 36 months (or when Sol goes to kindergarten, whichever comes first).

And of course, some of the wives were live tweeting Sunday during the show's broadcast. So, what does Meri have to say about her obsession over that stupid wetbar of hers?

Yeah, sure it is Meri...

And for all those MSWC customers wondering why they haven't received their shipment of genuine Kody Brown's wive's tacky (but not frumpy)  overpriced jewelry, be assured that the package is in the mail...maybe

Looks like Janelle caught a Hall and Oates concert with her "gal pal". Funny, but when does a booking manager become a gal pal? And what's her rate? 5%? 10%? 15%? Free? Hey, I want to see Hall and Oates, too!

  1. When I see pictures of all the wife's on a road trip, all I think about is that they are lying about everything. The fake drama. Maybe they all really like each other. I wonder where they are going, but then again, I don't really care. I am losing interest in their fake drama. They whine about not having money to pay their mortgage yet they still spend and take trips. Unless they are going to another craft show. Why couldn't one of the older teens or Kody watch Sol. He should be done with breast feeding. Janelle looks great. Christine is smiling and even Meri has a smile on her face. What gives. This family is playing the game. They are pros at deception. And their fans keep opening their wallets. Blahhhhhhh. Boring. SSDD.

    2. Why should Sol be finished breast feeding? He's a baby...he needs to breastfeed.

  2. Janelle looks a LOT slimmer in her face, good for her! But why is she wearing that fugly necklace?

As far as the road trip is concerned, why in the world do they all travel together? For the show? For LIV? For their "closet"? Who is watching all the (little) kids? Where's Kody?

    1. She does look a lot slimmer and so much like her daughter Madison! Wow, hope they are going somewhere good and on TLC's dime. Must have taken a lot to get them in the same vehicle together.

  3. Hey at least Janelle was attempting to do some marketing with that necklace. So if Janelle is the "tree of life", and robin is the "phoenix", then is it safe to assume that Christine is the "whimsical fairy" and Meri is the "loyal heart".

By golly, I think you are right! Look at Sol. He's tiny compared to the July 26 picture of him and Truly that Aspyn posted on twitter. In the SF picture, Sol still has his baby hair. He's had his first haircut in Aspyn's picture. Maybe the SF picture is a tease for Sunday's episode?

  6. They "said" they are going to San Fran in that pic.
For all we know they could be driving to the local Starbucks.
Really doesn't matter where, since it probably was all about keeping their (smiling) faces front and center online anyway.

    And.....

Re Sol, Sobbin isn't going to give up hanging on to her legitimacy chip - the "proof" as she has said, that she's intimate with koduche. Too bad she can't just make the kid into a keychain. Interesting how she couldn't dump her other kids' care on the other teens quick enough, but this one no doubt will be in every shot of the next season.

    4. I agree, I have always thought that Janelle was the prettiest (as evidenced by producing pretty children as well). I tend to think Hunter is growing into quite a handsome young man, and Madison and Logan are both cute kiddos! Go Janelle!! She deserves to feel great about herself!

      Delete
    5. Hard to say who his favourite is. I think he likes hanging out with Meri at her place because there aren't any kids there. When he was at Janelle's place in the "day in the life" episode, he really wasn't interacting with Janelle, just sitting on the couch until he was forced to go deal with HIS kids acting up. We really haven't seen him with Christine yet, but from the group scenes, she doesn't seem happy with him (and his frumpy comments), so I doubt that they are getting along well. We did see him on a date with Robyn, but once again it seems that Kody is much happier when there aren't any kids around.

  10. On another subject...the houses. The information for all the homes is public information through the Clark County Assessor's page. They paid on the average $445,000 per house and the taxes are (OMG!) $5350 per year...ouch! Each house averages over 4,000 sq. ft. I live in Northern Nevada and while I'm over 500 miles to the north, we still hear alot about Southern Nevada. It's totally insane that they bought such expensive houses when Las Vegas has been #1 for foreclosures. They could have sooo easily picked up one huge house to all live in for the price of ONE of the McMansions. They did not need to buy four individual homes for such a huge sum of money. Tsk tsk...totally irresponsible!

    2. Where are they going to find this house? They need at least a dozen bedrooms for all of them, four adults, who each need there own rooms (they'd kill each each other if they had to share) and nearly 20 kids. Even if 4 kids shared a room they would need 9 bedrooms. I did a search on Truila for houses with over 5 bedrooms (the highest option)and and the cheapest one that actually looked like it had 9 bedrooms (a couple looked too small to have that many rooms) was 1.5 million, there could have been more but I didn't look past the first page ( I realized I don't care). And really this option is not viable either, those kids would be miserable if they had to share a room with three others.

I wondered if the quick trip to SF was to try to get sellers to sell their jewelry. I do know there are quite a few jewelry wholesalers who sell to stores, mostly diamonds, but maybe.

  15. I'm watching the ep again, focusing on the Janelle/Trainer Sean segment. I think i figured out why I like the guy so much - he reminds me SO VERY MUCH of a mentor of mine who is a fairly well known group X instructor/trainer and I love the guy to death not because he's a hottie but because he has such a great big presence and sense of humor. You can tell Janelle feels VERY comfortable with him, and he's so positive which is EXACTLY what she needs not a stoic GI Joe type. It's not just about losing weight, his real job is to get her motivated and give her the skills to work out on her own.

oh and i wish the show would quit milking the wet bar. Meri says it because everyone has been talking about it HERE and other places online. IMO.

Six duplicate billings on one sale is really quite bad. It isn't rocket science to run a sale, especially nowadays. (Yes, I work in the payment card industry...)

    2. I do too Dakota Justice, that's why when I saw the complaints about processing credit card sales and such slow shipping by like 3 weeks from time of purchase, I thought wow..these people have a platform of a television show to drive sales and they can't get the payment, shipping thing down..they close down the ability to contact them because people were using it to just chat or vent, then someone has a real issue about their purchase and there is no way to contact them..customers are using their MSWC FB page to try and get their attention about an online sale..just nuts

    3. Hmm - you know they can't do that either (close down their contact point on their website) - I doubt that a FB page counts the same as a contact portal, email or phone number in the CC acceptance regulations.

Of course, since its their *fans* ordering the drek, they probably won't file chargebacks because they'll feel sorry for the poor persecuted Browns, or Robyn/Meri/whomever will re-post the meme about how tough it is to be an independent business. (cue worlds smallest violin here)

  20. I happened to be in semi-rural Lehi Ut today on an errand which took me down the street the Browns used to live on. I felt bad for the Brown kids for having to leave a place with big trees to climb, and lots of green grass to run in, a quiet street to play kick the can or night games, fresh air, horses and dogs and cats, and open space. They were quickly uprooted and sent to four separate homes with unfamiliar desert landscaping, new schools, no church community, and told to start over. I love Vegas, and I don't think Utah is superior or anything, but what an adjustment it must of been for them.

Running from prosecution? Um, no. I have lived near Fundie families my whole life, many more obvious in manner of dress than the Browns, and never seen any of them get more than a second glance.

I really, truly hope the kids are happy their new homes.

    1. Malamom, this family was not forced to move. This was all an act. They needed to create drama. Their father has always wanted to live in Vegas. I get so tired of people believing that this family had to flee in the middle of the night. All to get sympathy from the viewers. There was no warrant for their arrest. Stop feeling sorry for them. It was their choice to leave. The fake tears are wasted on this blog. If anything, the city of Lehi should get an apology from them. The kids are the innocent victims in this drama. Kody and his 4 women are making a nice living off their fans. I'm sure they are not losing any sleep. If they were so busy filling orders, then why all 4 for the road trip. No way is Kody filling orders or taking care of the other kids. This family is hoping that they can squeeze more seasons off their adoring fans. They are living way better than most of their fans and yet these fans continue to open their wallets. Go figure. Wake up fans, this family is not suffering. Come on TLC, enough of the water works and the same boring story lines.

    2. The parents weren't forced to move, but the kids certainly were! :) I was "forced" to move two blocks up the street when I was a kid and even though nothing changed but the house (which got bigger) I still found it a bit hard to say goodby. I imagine this move unsettled the middle kids--the ones who were old enough to be bonded to Lehi, but young enough to want to crawl in bed with mommy when they are scared.

      Delete
  21. I think the moms did jump ship and leave the rest of the kids at home, because Mariah tweeted later in the evening that "if the Brown household isn't in complete chaos 98.7% of the time, something is very wrong". So there you go.

  22. So does that leave LOVER taking care of Robyn's brood, while Janelle and Christine's teens fend for themselves? He probably brought in relatives to take care of the kids. I can't imagine Kody doing it for more than a few hours. This definitely sounds like a plotline so the film crew must be back. Maybe the good ratings gave them another season.

    1. The older teens are all out at Lake Las Vegas, because wouldn't you if you were teens? ;)

And the tweens are having a popcorn and movie party in Meri's great room. Christine's son Paedon is in charge (hey! He's 13 or 14 now! Young enough for the teens to reject, old enough to boss the other kids around!) They are taking turns jumping off the wet bar.

Truly is upstairs in Meri's "hubby" room fingerpainting. She just wanted a little peace and quiet. ;)

So I went to Wiki to see how old the kids all are and noticed for the first time that until Christine had Truly, Janelle had the youngest Brown kid. I guess I just thought that Christines were all a bit younger than Janelle's. Not that it matters particularly, I was just surprised.

This is related to the pictures above, kind of, so I hope you don't mind my asking it here.

Does anyone know when the Polygamy USA set started allowing women to receive the call to marry? I imagine that could be at least part of what made this group break from the larger group, but I wonder how old that practice is. I wonder if the young men resent that they get stuck with a wife while their fathers or grandfathers got to pick their wives...I wonder if the older women resent that the younger ones get to pick their husbands? Not that the younger ones really get to pick (I mean honestly, who would "pick" their sixth grade teacher if they had all of their normal freedoms in place?)

Anywho. I was just wondering about that so I thought I'd ask the experts. ;)

Actually the split from the "First Ward" (located in Colorado City/Hildale and formerly known as Short Creek) was due to a disagreement between members regarding "One Man Doctrine". Two vocal members, Alma Timpson and J Marion Hammon were opposed to the "One Man Doctrine", favoring a "Priesthood Council" to be the presiding power of authority instead of only one man holding sole power of authority. The two men were basically thrown out of town in 1984, and formed their own sect, known as the "Second Ward" in what eventually became Centennial Park.

    4. Traci, I just finished watching all the eps of Polygamy USA that I DVR'd so your question was fresh in my mind. It's 18 yrs of age. They can have their "revalation" earlier (the one said she was 16) but the brethern won't act upon it until the girl is 18. Then she tells the council and they 'ponder' it - it took several months for the one girl but they finally approved her choice. Then the guy is notified he's been chosen and wa-la! it's done. Weird, eh?

      Delete
    5. One can imagine ladies started choosing their spouses 'round 'bout the time the TV producers rolled into town.

      Delete
    6. Traci, I think the fundamentalists started putting it onto the women to have the revelations because in the past multiple men would sometimes have a revelation that the same woman should marry them. I remember reading that when Irene Spencer first arrived at Colonia LeBaron, she and her husband and sister-wife/half-sister didn't announce that Irene had joined their family as a wife right away because Verlan LeBaron's brothers only had one wife each at the time, and these women were Mexican and Catholic and likely to freak out when their husband started taking plural wives (and they did, it was so tragic to read about). So they kept it a secret, but Irene had to tell Ervil LeBaron she was married to Verlan when he approached her to say he had a revelation that she belonged to him as a wife. I think he even repeated this situation with one of Irene's much younger sister-wives many years later or other women in that community.... I guess these men need to adjust their God antennas!

    2. I just have to say that I am glad that Janelle is losing weight. What bothers me is that people think that she is coming up with something new. There are many companies out there that supply plus size work out wear. This is nothing new. I wish people stop acting like she invented sliced bread. Where does she shop in Vegas. This family has never been fashionable. Just because you think that you are a semi celebrity, does not mean that people will buy what you are selling. I am not being mean but this family is getting richer off the ideas coming from this blog. Hell yes, they all read this blog. Every time something is mentioned, suddenly we see it on the show. TLC or Figure 8 should be paying CJ. This blog is the only thing keeping this family relevant. IMHO.

    3. It goes without saying that any successful plus size clothing would have to be attractive, good quality, reasonably priced and could NOT contain a plyg logo of any sort. They could probably make some money if they stuck to these guidelines. I know I would buy more clothing if I could find good stuff do I think more variety I'd great.

However, these are not the ones to run a successful business. They have no sense of style, they aren't designers, they're greedy and they really want to promote polygamy so they will slap that horrible paw logo on everything.

    4. SewCrafty is right, and I've said it myself - there is PLENTY of well made, well priced, well designed, flattering workout clothes for plus sized women out there. There has been for some time.

You can even find bottoms that are different colors, however most people (of ALL sizes, including myself) tend to favor black workout bottoms for different reasons. My reasons - looks more flattering, easier to clean and I tend to sweat in what Will Ferrell calls the "crotchal region" (well I sweat EVERYWHERE but it seems to show up the most there!) and black doesn't show that as easily.

Justmysize.com, Torrid, and Lane Bryant have extensive collections for workout/active wear. and a lot of it is pretty damn cute too :)

    5. Robyn called the plus sized holy workout wear or something like that which I *assume* would be something to do with their version of modesty or something that appropriately covers the garments. I don't think it's that she can't find clothes that fit. I think it has more to do with covering the right part of her body or her garments.

Maybe a mormon/ex-mormon/former polygamist could give some insight into this?

      Delete
    6. I am always on the lookout for 100% cotton plus size clothing. There is very little out there. I know some people like the new miracle fibers that are supposed you keep you drier and all, but those clothes are not comfortable to me and they make me sweat even more. I would even buy Sister wife's closet 100% cotton clothes providing it didn't have a plug logo on it!)

    7. Kim in AB - I'm LDS and only LDS members with temple endowments are allowed to wear them. In fact, you have to give your membership record number and other verification to SLC when you order the garments. That way, they're not available to nonmembers. So, the wives can't be wearing the garments but still uphold the modesty ruling of the LDS church. They pick and chose what they want to believe in, hence, those ugly babydoll tops with tshirts underneath them. The LDS church has guidelines that they would like members to adhere to. Those that do not have their temple endowments can wear sleeveless tops, etc., but it's not encouraged. Most active LDS women will wear short sleeves or cap sleeves, but not sleeveless, etc. I don't know where the wives get their idea they can't let their arms show (wear long sleeves) but that's not the LDS church's opinion...it's strictly the Sister Wives.

    8. Hi Robbie,

Although I appreciate reading your information about the LDS from your personal perspective, I must add that some sects of fundamentalist Mormons do indeed wear the long sleeve, long legged old-fashioned undergarments.

This is an excerpt from Flora Jessop's "Church of Lies" which details her life as a member of Warren Jeffs' FLDS:

"Finally, we had all been baptized. The priest pronounced a special blessing on us. We were all saints now, he said, no longer children. We were full members of the community in the eyes of God, accountable to the priesthood for everything we did. Then he handed each of us our first “sacred garment”—a one-piece, white union suit that would cover us from wrists to ankles. It was designed to keep us modest and pure.

“Flora,” said the priest, “you must wear your Garment of the Holy Priesthood throughout your life. If you are true and faithful to the covenants, it will be a shield that will protect you against evil.” He looked at me hard. “And if you are ever caught not wearing the garment, you will be damned to hell!”

The garment buttoned up the front and had a flap I could unbutton when I used the bathroom. My dresses and skirts had to cover it completely at all times, from my shoulders to well below my knees, with sleeves that went to my wrists, even in summer. I had to wear up to eight pairs of nylon panty hose at once, making my legs look thick and bulky, like a rag doll’s legs. The dunking was bad enough, but for me the garment was a death sentence. I knew from watching my mom and my aunts that women usually wore the garment for a week before it was washed. By the end of the week, it generally had stains under the arms and smelled to high heaven. A lot of women were so afraid of letting their body lose contact with the garment that they would actually shower with it on. They’d take off one arm and one leg of the dirty garment, get in the shower, wash and dry that side of their body, put the arm and leg of a clean garment on the clean side of their body, and then start all over again on the other side. I thought my garment was the ugliest thing I’d ever seen, and I hated it on sight."

Jessop, Flora; Brown, Paul T. (2009-01-08). Church of Lies (p. 8). John Wiley and Sons. Kindle Edition.

Kristyn Decker, who was spotlighted on SWB in June 2013 when her book about her experiences as a member of the AUB was banned at the Tuacahn Market in St George, also talked about wearing garments. Here's an excerpt where she describes watching her mother getting dressed:

"With a purposeful look on her face, Mother would slide her right foot into the right leg of the garment, then the left foot into the left leg. She’d pull her one-piece treasure up over her body and put her right arm into the long right sleeve, and then her left arm into the left sleeve. Then she’d guide the garment over her shoulders and around her chest, and tie the front. Before putting on her slip and dress, she would put her bra and underpants over the top of her garments, then meticulously fold up the legs of the garments from her ankles to a few inches below her knees. To prevent the garment legs from sliding below the hem of her mid-calve-length dresses, she’d insert tiny gold pins to hold them in place. Afterward, she’d repeat the same ritual with each sleeve, so they too would stay hidden under her three-quarter-length sleeves.

Decker, Kristyn (2012-04-25). Fifty Years in Polygamy: Big Secrets and Little White Lies (p. 41). BalboaPress. Kindle Edition.

And finally, this glossary excerpt from anthropologist Janet Bennion:

priesthood garment: Many fundamentalists, male and female, wear a white undergarment that covers the body from their neck to ankles and wrists. This garment has sacred and spiritual symbolism for the wearer. It also encourages modesty.

    9. Thanks for the heads up...I never knew that. But then again, I'm mainstream Mormon and not a Fundamentalist. Each religion has their own edicts (sp?) so while they believe most of what the Prophet Joseph Smith taught, I'm not surprised about the difference in the garments. It sure explains alot about by the FLDS wear what's called the prairie dresses! Is that why the Wives wear long sleeved clothes most of the time? They wore swimsuits in several episodes so hmmmm. The Duggar girls wear only skirts, the guys never wear shorts, and wow, those "modest" swimware are something else. But you have to respect their reasons.

I've not ever read any of the Fundimentalist Mormon books so I'm not nearly as versed with their religion as I am my own. I must say, tho, that I truly believe the Browns make alot of stuff up as they go along even if their core values are consistent.

On a side note, I can't live without this blog! I sit here on my side of the office and just laugh and hoot and holler and my husband keeps saying, "what? what?" He was raised in Southern Utah and basically taught to steer waaaay clear of the polygamy groups near St. George so he refuses to watch the show. He is adamently against what they're doing. I'm a little more tolerant than he is and frankly, find it all amusing. So please keep up the good job on this site! I LOVE it! :o)

    10. I I don't agree with Dakota Justice about the availability of modest plus size workout wear. I'm not sure about the stores she mentions, but after looking for basic items at places like sports authority and target, I have often wished that I could design my own. I want short sleeves, a bit tailored, and zippered pockets. Those are just the features I want. But you're shopping among sleeveless tops and yoga pants. If she ends up doing it, good for Janelle.

    11. No problem, Robbie. And Thank You, and everyone here, for making SWB a fun place to visit!

    12. Hi Robbie, You said the fundamentalists believe most of the teachings of the prophet Joseph Smith. I'm confused. I thought the fundamentalists had split off because they wanted to stay true to all of the teachings of Joseph Smith (e.g., primarily polygamy) and didn't agree with the mainstream LDS church changing. And I thought the mainstream LDS church was OK with changing it because of a belief in a living prophet who can get new revelations and essentially "trump" the prophets from the past, making it ok for the living prophet to say Joseph Smith's revelation in D&C 132 was no longer something that needed to be lived. But maybe I have that wrong. It's all very confusing. As someone who is mainstream LDS, do you know?

  29. Why is the show flip-flopping on issues within just an episode? I thought last week that the trainer was all angry at Janelle because she wasn’t “showing up” (i.e. losing the weight) and then Janelle realized the ‘teamwork’ aspect would inspire her to work harder and lose the weight. So, now the next episode, she is being told that weight doesn’t matter, bust up that scale with a sledgehammer. Another example of this is Janelle in last week’s episode made a big production of going to Robyn’s to tell her that she wanted to commit more fully to MSWC and be more engaged and then this episode she says she needs to disengage and focus on the real estate more fully. I can see them , over time, making these decisions but within the next episode? This makes Janelle look wishy-washy and unable to follow through with a project. And that leads me to the inevitable question – is Janelle really selling real estate? Wouldn’t we have seen her signs on some ‘for sale’ homes in LV? Or a tweet from TMI realty about how their ‘new realtor’ has made a sale? Something? It’s like almost a year later and we have seen nothing (and our readers are great about finding things) so I am guessing we have all been hoodwinked about Janelle’s awesome money-making abilities. She had a government job in Utah that had a regular paycheck. By Brown standards, that is superstar worthy, but not by my standards. Anyhow, I am just confused by Janelle and why she appears to keep changing her mind.

    2. I've always thought that the editing on this program was for the birds. Both Christine and Jenelle's picture is on the TMI website...which would make us believe that they both are still involved in Real Estate....who knows!! Now are they going to take Christine's picture down because she has PUBLICLY stated that she does not want to continue in Real Estate?

The problem with this whole situation is the social media. This family should probably stay off of it, except for their iconic jewelry business and frumpy clothing venture. They don't NEED to have personal twitter accounts....they can have a "Sisterwives" account and keep the info current to the show, so as not to confuse their audience.

      Delete
    3. I agree that Janelle is probably pushing paper in the office, meaning she is making an hourly wage most likely. However, it's been a year, why wouldn't she be busting her behind to really get into real estate and prove to Mona she is ready to start selling? Is this normal for realty, they get their license and then do paperwork for a year? I just think it shows that although Janelle may have the best work ethic of the bunch, I still don't think she is blowing anyone in LV out of the water. Just sayin.

    4. The problem with this whole situation is the social media. This family should probably stay off of it

I am so in agreement with you on that one. When the Browns started out, they not only had their twitter accounts (except for Kody, he came a lot later) but they had a family friend set up a sister wives twitter account, and a "Friends Only" facebook fanpage where the "friends" had to be deemed worthy enough to be allowed access. When the Browns became involved with LIV, this family friend also set up a separate "Like" page for all the other riffraff...I mean the fans who maybe didn't know about the so called exclusive "Friends Only" facebook fanpage. Christine wrote one of the first advertisements for LIV on the like and friend only fanpages...remember Global Operation Detox?

I used to say the Browns set up their Facebooks like their idea of heaven: with an upper heaven for the "elite" and a lower heaven for everyone else. It was just dumb to handle fans that way. Talk about polarizing!

I don't have a problem with their Twitter accounts (except for the teenagers...I don't understand why an adult would follow a teen, and then have the nerve to complain about the tweets being childish! Oh yes, I saw that happen!)But they simply tweet way too much information about their daily lives, which compromises the premise of the show. For instance, we know from the pictures accidently tweeted (and quickly deleted) that they did move into the McMansions and it was filmed by the Sister Wives crew. We see their many Disneyland trips, their many road trips, while they complain about being worried if they can afford house payments. They tweet about going to this club, or this event,or going to get their nails done, or even attending some Vegas nightclub or parties. Remember that New Years party Janelle attended and had her picture taken with a former rock star who...well, let's just say if I were Kody she'd have a LOT of explaining to do!

I'm sure there are business owners out there who would give their eyeteeth to be able to have a reality show and social media opportunities the Browns just seem to squander away.

      It's such a damn waste...

    5. To answer the question above about if its a requirement to do paperwork for a year...in short, not usually. My husband was a realtor and the laws state to state may vary, but my guess is that this is how Mona is working the situation...having Janelle do grunt work and "learn the business" before putting her in a position where she can actually make good money.

That said, I understand their loyally to Mona but there comes a time when you have to do what is best for your family and find a better paying job! Go work somewhere that will actually allow you to practice real estate!

    6. On the weight issue - I don't think Sean was saying that it didn't matter, I think he's just trying to get Janelle to quit compulsively weighing herself (she said she LOVES her scale, which says to me that she was jumping on it at least once per day) and just stick to the regularly scheduled weigh-ins with Sean.

That's actually what I do. I have a scale at home, but I rarely use it - I'm a Jenny Craig member - mostly for the accountability factor although i do use their products about 33% of the time - and I limit my "scale time" to my Friday morning standing appointment - weekly weigh-ins and monthly measurements. But that's just me - your mileage may vary. :)

Also, did Janelle and Christine change their names? Or are they just putting that "Brown" on the TMI site so no one finds their real names? Seems odd that Robyn wouldn't change her name too if the others did.

  31. I think at the end of the day, Janelle drank the Kool-Aid. She wasn't raised in this lifestyle. In fact she even stated in the early days that she didn't even know what Polygamy WAS when she was young. This is something she consciously chose as an adult woman and now states that she has a "testimony" for this lifestyle choice.

She drank it, she has convinced herself that this is what needs to be done to achieve her spiritual goals, she is living it to the best of her abilities. I believe she is a spiritual person and takes her promises to heart.

My Grandmother was a good, straight as an arrow Presbyterian. She was married her whole life to a hateful man, yet she would not consider leaving him. Her exact words were that she would never break a promise to God, she made that promise and it meant so much to her that she would stick it out. For better and for worse.

I believe Janelle is this type of person, good to the soul, with very strong personal convictions. When you look at the kids in general, the two that are the most put together, sensible, solid with a good sense of self......well, they are Logan and Madison. Janelle's first two kids. I think the chaos of the family took it's tole with her other children, the other boys have some pent up anger in them and Janelle's non-confrontational style isn't enough to get in there and get dirty. I also think they need a strong man in their life, which is probably why losing Logan to the "outside" world is hard on the family. The Kodster is just too much like an off-sight project manager than a good role model.

    Go Team Janelle!

    1. Janelle is not that way, or else she wouldn't have gotten a divorce from her first husband (Meri's brother). I personally think she was just infatuated with Kody at the time of their "courtship", although I have no idea why. And she becomes very easily complacent. Obviously, she's not the smartest tool in the shed, because she wouldn't have drank the kool aid to begin with if she was. I really do feel bad for her, because I think she is just easily influenced and naive about the whole thing. You could say that about all the wives really.

  33. Baby Sol is probably traveling with his mother because she likely breast feeds as well as babies dont do well separated too long from mom. Who would she leave him with? I would not have left any of my babies with anyone other then my husband when they were that little. Mom got a baby over night maybe but in the end she was exhausted. I do not blame her for doing what is best for her baby. It is her best quality that I can see. I certainly do not hate the woman but, just feel she put a huge wedge in the relationship of the family.

They are likely out on a work trip. Not the jooery but possibly a speaking engagement? Or are they scouting a new tolerant area to live? San Francisco is very tolerant and also very pricey to live. It was interesting to me how Janelles personality changed when she was talking to a young girl at one of the trade shows about LV being tolerant. It was as if she morphed into this girl for a moment. Strange.

Meri going to the college look with her daughter bought her more Kody one on one time and likely she will need him to accompany her many times the next years while her daughter is so far from home. LOL.... she was grinning like I have never seen her. So happy when it was just her, Kody and the kidlet. I think she would have been a happy wife of just marriage between her and Kody. Although they surely would be reaping the benefits of not working. No tanning, teeth whitening, skin peels, or baby doll tops, they wouldnt qualify for food stamps with just one child but she would have been happy happy. So obvious from this little clip. I think she knows that also and cringes every time she thinks why did I agree to this??? Once Janelle was on board to bring in more wives was the only way she could make it more comfortable. She dismisses Janelle with oh, that kody, he wasnt romantically attracted to Janelle anyway it hardly matters. Well he had 6 kids with her so attraction was there.
The college that Meris daughter is going to got a lot of coverage on this show. Possibly for a good reason. Is this how it is getting paid for? They just got minutes of tv coverage! I had never heard of the college nor would I send my child to Utah for college.... ever! But, she likely got a free ride for the free advertising worth more then her tuition.

I don't think Kody would be happy here because I doubt many people would give two craps about "I have four wives!!!" However, being Kody, I'm sure he would actively seek out any opportunity to make an ass out of himself. 2. Christine has more of a fundamental understanding of fundamental Mormonism. She was raised by a favored son of the FOUNDER of the AUB group. She was taught from birth what Rulon Allred taught. When she wanted to celebrate Joseph Smith birthday it was because the founder and prophet of AUB taught her to do so. When Kody made her change it to Hanukah instead..What was that? was it for the cameras? (so much for showing your faith) Or was that he really does not believe in his adopted faith?
My guess is that Kody resents Christine for pushing him to be faithful to the church he pretends to follow.

Bet you anything they did celebrate JS birthday that year, but not for the cameras. it was all for show.

      Delete
    6. Christine has started off more sentences with "I'm sorry, but..." this season than she ever has, I do believe. I used to do that a bunch, but no more! Why apologize for stating my opinion??? Besides, it loses its meaning quickly after doing that. Save the apologies for something genuine Christine. If you don't want to be involved with ROBYN'S website/jewlery thing, then no need to apologize just say so.

      Delete
    7. Why apologize for stating [her] opinion???
Because when Christine starts or ends her statement with "I'm sorry" she really ISN'T sorry at all!

She's being passive aggressive...instead of just stating her opinion, she has to sugarcoat it by adding "I'm sorry". She's thinking this will make what she has to say more palatable for her target - that they won't hate her for it. So when she says "I'm sorry, but MSWC is a hobby business" or "I need to work in real estate in order to pay my bills, I'm sorry" she's using the phrase "I'm sorry" as a crutch to avoid what she believes will cause feelings to be hurt. The thing is, she doesn't care if she hurts that person's feelings - she just wants to get her way.

A psychologist I knew once explained passive-aggressive behavior as a person who would stab someone in the back but still come out of the experience smelling like a rose.

Eventually, people figure this out. I'm positive Kody has, and that's why she get's the kold shoulder from him. It's a learned behavior, and she's probably seen it all her life starting with her father's sisterwives.

It is not normal...especially when she uses that cloying baby voice when she says it!

      Delete
    8. And I forgot to say, Meri also uses a more firm version of "I'm sorry". She used it with Mariah when Mariah didn't want to leave her church school to move to Las Vegas, and more recently, when Meri decided to drive her own car instead of allowing Mariah to drive it.

Looks like polygamy isn't smoothing out those rough spots very well with this group.

Was anyone else bothered by the Kody/Meri/Mariah scene at the Lehi house where they all collectively decided that it really didn't feel like home anymore TO THEM and therefore maybe they should sell it? I thought it was telling that Kody said he had been thinking about maybe selling it for a while but now that Mariah and Meri agree maybe they will do it. Um, aren't there 15 plus other people in this family who should be consulted about a decision like this? Don't get me wrong, I thing they should sell that house to get some cash on hand, but I felt like that scene gave us some real insight into who has the say in this family - Kodster, Legal Wife and Princess Mariah. Those scenes are for the audience...a script. The cameras were there and so was the director...I'm sure he said "talk about selling the house....roll tape"....."Cut"..."wait, I need more emotion"..."re-take that scene again"...."roll tape"...."no, no, no...Kody, run your hands through your hair and try to look like you are the decision maker here"

    6. Does anyone think Janelle was trying to buy her way into Meri and Kody's affections by putting them on the house title? Married people often have assets in their own names if their money paid for it.

      Delete
    7. No annon 9:49 im sure Kody and Meri insisted because they were working to put money in the pot to make the payments. Meri worked part-time, but im sure it was a im not paying for this unless im on the title situation.

    8. I think that when they refinanced (or took out a second, I don't remember which) Janelle used Kody's income also, and since he was married, Meri's name was included on the lien and deed too.

The mortgage information was posted somewhere once, and it was clear that Kody and Meri's names were added at the same time as the second loan.

      Delete
    9. I think Kody asked/told Janelle to add them to the title, and she just did it, having drunk the Kool-Aid. Big mistake if you ask me.

I also think that the house purchase was the reason Kody asked her to come back - from what I surmised Janelle got an inheritance at some point, perhaps that's what she used to purchase the house that she was living in at the time she broke away from the rest of the fam, then sold that house and used that money as a down for the Lehi compound.

and also, guessing here that Kody and Meri wanted to be added so they could use the equity of the house as a giant ATM (HELOC) as so many others were doing at the time.

I remember all the news articles going 'round after the RE bubble burst and here in my area there were plenty of stories where janitors who normally would not qualify, purchased condos/homes in the Bay Area on ARMs based on stated income, and were able to pay the monthly mortgage since it was just interest then lost the houses when the rate began adjusting upwards. The Browns are using the same logic as those people did - get into an interest-only loan and hope that they can roll it into a traditional mortgage. I think ARM loans are pretty much either banned or no longer used by the mortgage loan industry at this point (please correct me if I'm wrong) but since the Browns obtained financing through unconventional means (via the builder) I believe they don't have to follow the mortgage lending rules, am I correct?

    10. Christina and DJ you are both right...and it was for $45K. That ain't chump change. Janelle probably needed Kody's income to qualify. I think it was for home improvement. If you watch the first season, Meri 's kitchen appliances looked fairly modern. Janelle 's too...but Christine's stove looked like it was at least 20-30 years old. Maybe the money ran out, but what is amazing is that about 2 years later Christine filed for bankruptcy. One of the creditors was a credit card from Home Depot.

      I think I see a pattern here...

At the time I thought it was related to tithing. But now I'm thinking maybe this was how they paid the woman back - and prevented Owen Allred from going to prison (but not from being placedon home arrest) .

I guess doodling jewelry designs of hearts, pixies, trees & birds will now keep him too busy to ever think of finding a real job. The Brown approach of the pity me open your wallets is offensive. To place so much importance of the roof over your head on an online jewelery business is stupid. Many jewelery businesses fail. Did they not consider the tough economy at the the time of their start up?Or did they just assume everyone one else had the dough...their poor mindset seems to have varnished their pricing strategy.

    Just a Thought,
I doubt they will ever stop singing their relentless song of mounting, unpaid bills and persecution and actually move on to legitimate Plyg information.
Their "poor us" constant tale of woe is more their Brand now than any actual and useful plyg episodes. The show is all about their *struggles*, however manufactured they are.
    That is their theme !!

I sound like a broken record, I know, but I don't believe any of them have any intention of ever leaving. They are ALL in for this ride.
Each wife has established her own persona for the show. (with the help of the fans)

Meri is the bitchy, first and only legal-wife dominator. She dominates because *she can*.
Janelle is the under-appreciated, long-suffering heroine who garners the most sympathy and empathy.
Christine is the ditzy but sincere, over-looked and under-valued true Plyg who provides the others with many opportunities for condescending eye-rolls.
Sobbin is the sad sack who just tries and tries to no avail as the interloper, and the one who all the rest can guiltlessly resent for various reasons.

And yeah, as outright stupid and self-centered as Kody is, he is the circus ringmaster for whom they all *choose* to perform their roles.
And of course, to perform for the cameras.

  48. About the Meri/Mariah/Kody nostalgia tour to the Lehi house...

Very doubtful Kody has any intentions of selling that house. In fact, I doubt that scene would ever have been scripted and fimed *except* that it is further proof that the producers keep a close watch on the pulse of the viewers and what the viewers want to see by checking SWB.

Since last year when their McMansion madness and the $$$ boo-hooing began, this blog (and probably others too ) have been alive with comments about the Lehi house...why didn't they enlarge it for the horde....or just sell it ???

Voila, like magic, there is Kody addressing that very issue.
He didn't say he was going to sell..just that he was *thinking about it.*
    Won't happen.

Does make you wonder, though, if the producers are running dry on coming up with new scripts and topics that they are obviously coming here to get some direction to keep the fans and the ratings.
If so, then we could have some fun and help *create* new ones for them.
Producers, do you need our help??
You know, and we know. that 90% of each episode is bullsh*t, so why not let the viewer/fans contribute some of the fiction?
After all, these are the people who are keeping you all on the air.

The Browns are WAY over their heads in debt with the Lehi house (I think they owe more than what it's worth). Also, how much could they sell it for? Not more than 100k-200k tops, and I am being generous.

  50. Here are my thoughts on this latest episode.

#1) Kody did not like the idea of making T-shirts because they are "Frumpy" but when someone brought up the apron idea he thought it was genius! I personally don't know anyone who wears an apron, ever. Everyone wears t-shirts, even just to work out or sleep in. What an idiot.
#2) What was up with Mariah? Kody asked her to NOT wear the sweatshirt the next day and what does she do? Wear it!
#3) A miracle has taken place during the filming of this episode, Robyn did not cry once! Yipppeee!!!
#4) Janelle stated she was going to have plus sized workout wear available Jan 1st. This is august, still no workout wear. TLC you probably should have cut that!
#5) Why is Christine suddenly sucking up to Robyn? The whole "I want to support you and support your dream" (Of MSWC) When just a few minutes earlier she said she was never going to do a trade show again! I'm guessing she thinks she can score points with Kody.
#6) Meri at the end crying about Mariah wanting to be in the house by Christmas was pathetic. Get over yourself! Whats the big deal? She is not being deployed, she can come back for Christmas next year. And if Meri's house was done first why was she last moving in?

    2. They never celebrated Christmas (as far as I know) before that first Christmas special that they did where they(TLC?) rented the cabin and they played in the snow. Judging by the amount of Christmas stuff Meri acquired in the last couple years I guess they liked it?

They seem (to ME) to be over-reacting a LOT to Christmas. "We won't be in the homes for CHRISTMAS." Umm... so what? Christmas is portable... It happens regardless of your location.

    4. Mariah and the sweatshirt really tee'ed me off. I get that she is only interested in Westminster College. I had my top choice too. However I did look at other schools because, well, I needed a back-up school and maybe even a back-up for my back-up.It never hurts to be prepared.
Sweatshirtgate was just a disrespectful move on her part. I'd like to say it was passive-aggressive, but there was nothing passive about it. She had already been told not to wear that sweatshirt.

I remember in one of the earliest episodes when Mariah wanted to go to the Naval Academy and Kody told her that her acceptance was very unlikely because she would need a recommendation from an elected state official (I think he said it had to be the governor, but my brother's rec was from a state senator and it was good enough for Anapolis, so once again Kody was wrong! (Sorry)). As I remember it, her face fell. She was disappointed. I think maybe that has caused some inner conflict for her re: her religious beliefs vs. the reality of the non-plyg world.

I'm not an psychologist but I play one online.

    5. About not celebrating Christmas before the show - I don't think that's correct. Meri was pulling old ornaments from the boxes that they already had, and I'm almost sure that there have been old family films when the kids were little where they were opening Christmas presents.

I personally think that Mariah is trying to one-up the rest of the kids. "Doctor" sounds impressive. to me she has not shown (at least in the eps) the slightest inclination towards compassion or anything I would consider of a medical bent. but who knows.

I would also think that in order to save money the parents would have the kids do the first couple years at a jr/community college and do all their general requirements...

As for being a Doctor she is going to change her mind a couple times when she gets to university. Her decisions could lead her back to MD but she will waver, she's only 18. A

Who says an MD has to be compassionate? I have had plenty of doctors that are not. It is not a prequiste at all. If you can fake it in your med school interview your golden.

Grocery shopping, cleaning, getting kids ready for school, cooking, diaper changing, birthing, paying the bills, working, sticking to a budget, folding clothes, organizing, yard work, bringing out the trash, and marriage counseling are all mundane tasks that frankly are not that fun but must be done.

I can see why Kody wants no part in the daily and just takes a nap or watches t.v. when at one of his mistresses houses unless something fun is going on. Ask Logan how he felt about being the "dad" to his younger siblings while their real dad was busy hopping from bed to bed.

    4. I'm sorry, but I think we should be careful about generalizing that all polygamists are "irresponsible idiots who only care about themselves, their cooks, main toys,"...and own personal fun. To me, it's easy to look at the Dargers as an example of a polygamist family who is none of those things....and I'm sure there are others, the Dargers are just public so an easy example to use. I do NOT think they are irresponsible - they ALL work their butts off (including the SAHM, who does the books for their businesses). They spend time with their children, what seems like real quality time. And it's obvious from their posts that they know each of their children intimately as individuals - including Joe. Also, as far as I'm aware, Joe neither has any "toys," nor does he particularly appear to be having "fun." He seems to take his responsibility to his family VERY seriously....to the point that sometimes you want to tell him to actually lighten up a little, that's it's okay to HAVE some fun sometimes.

All I'm saying is that making sweeping generalizations seems unfair to me... Not to mention that I do not believe keeping polygamy illegal is going to solve any of those problems. I find it very difficult to believe that there are a lot of people out there who really, really want to practice polygamy but don't because it's illegal. Nope, they just go underground and live it in secret....

Just my thoughts, for what they're worth. (-:

    True, true...all of it !!!
But the kicker is that these four women chose, and continue to choose, this life. Not one of them is going to run. Not one of them has the desire or clarity to look beyond the sperm donor and stop the insanity.
None of them had the hellish history that so many other women in the Plyg tell-all books had of being forced to marry such a narcissist.
The Brown babes all chose this life !

Meri especially could have refused to ever start this madness. We all saw their wedding video and pics. He loved her, she loved him. They were the poster-perfect young bride and groom.

Janelle was a non-plyg, married to Meri's brother. Why did she do such a bizarre 180, and decide to want to be a second wife to this clown and to her former sister-in-law?

Christine was a silly, late-stage teenager who was born to the Plyg life. At least her motivation makes a little sense.

Sobbin was down and out, three kids, divorced, in debt, and sorely in need of a rescue. And she was younger, slimmer and still fertile. She had all the ingredients that Kody needed for his agenda, and he had the promise of a TV show and monetary relief that Sobbin wanted and needed for her problems. (I still am amazed that the father of her kids has successfully remained silent and incognito.)

They will never change, they will always be looking for the easy out, the "look at us" or the "sob story" that sells. And if all else fails, they will use shameful "single mother " ruse for government hand-outs. They have done it before, they will do it again.

I sincerely hope that more than a few of their many, many their children choose differently.

HAnging around celebrating birthdays and graduations is not caring. It is twelve years of homework leading up to graduations that matters, and he hasn't been around for that. I don't understand why the Brown children don't take advantage of junior colleges which are much less expensive. I am sure they are paying the cost of college and it would sure help them to not rack up as many student loans. As an adult I went back to college and even though we could have afforded a university, I did not even consider not taking advantage of the cost saving JC. Maybe then they will start "finally seeing reality" (love your screen name).

  63. (can't respond in the nesting mode)

" don't think that's the kicker. To turn it around on the women and say, well, the women allowed it, as if that absolves the man, no, I don't agree. He had the kids too."

I don't disagree with you. Not all !
Kody is a major D-bag. He is what he is...a self-centered jerk, an appalling loser as a husband and as a father. That fact is blatantly evident. And he chooses to use Plyg Principles to get away with it and to ensure that his life goes his way.

So unfortunately, it IS up to the women, the mothers, to either change it and free themselves and their children from it all, or they don't.
Janelle's part of the book tells of her struggles to live as the 2nd wife under Meri's tyranny. She even left after having a few kids by him. And then came back to have even more kids. ???
Christine is late stage pregnant when he is out getting it on with the still single Sobbin. Meri and Janelle are aware of that too. They all have kids watching this behavior. I don't get it.

If Kody is a zero as a father and he surely is, *they* are still the kids' mothers. They all vilify the likes of Warren Jeffs, yet do not seem to see what their own kids are lacking in paternal caring. They make insane comments about "being proud of Kody."

The last episode had that old quick clip of Meri demanding that one of Christine's daughters change her top into something more modest. Yet....that same daughter (and the rest of the older kids) have to accept that dear old dad hop scotches back and forth in all their mothers' beds. So change the blouse because we are modest, but accept that dad does his thing whenever and wherever he wants.
As a father and husband, Kody is about as involved in their day to day lives as wallpaper.

    1. What kind of example is Kody setting for his sons and daughters?

  65. These so-called Mothers should be equally as ashamed as Kodouche. They have clearly put "the man" and their desire to live in separate homes (lives) above their children and what's best for them. What kind of Mother would SETTLE for such a deadbeat for a Dad/male role model? Where's the motherly instinct? Was the desire to make easy cash (bogusly having to "flee" Lehi) for the drama so much more important than putting their feet down as mothers and saying "NO!"....for the unity of our children we will stay put?

How can they respect a so-called Man (and I use that term very loosely in this case) who flits in and out, hopping from home to home and bed to bed, who leaves these Mothers to ultimately be the responsible ones (homework, up at night if kid is sick or has a nightmare and all of the many issues that will inevitably arise when Kodouche is playing spin the pickle with one of the other wives)? Given their financial history (bankruptcies, food stamps, ?welfare fraud, etc), the man is a deadbeat who no doubt pushed each wife to pop out the kids but he's not even been a decent and consistent provider. How can they respect a so-called Man who made his priority a flashy sports car while his wives drove around in unroadworthy beaters with bald tires? That ain't no man. These women clearly have no standards or concept of what a good man/father/provider is all about. It's shameful. About as shameful as these money-hungry grifters having their own TV show that's based on nothing but lies, embellishments, half-truths, fake drama, etc. What shameful role models as parents, that's about all I can say. It's one thing to want to live an alternative lifestyle as adults but when you bring more than a dozen innocent, impressionable and dependent children into the mix then it's just plain wrong. I have a real issue with parents who allow their childrens' personal lives to be broadcast on TV, to me it's nothing but blatant exploitation and greed. Where is the role modeling to teach their children a strong work ethic and the importance of having a steady full time job?

  66. Kody wants us to accept his lifestyle, so he needs to tell us just why he is living this way. I want to see him explain how he's going to become the god of his own planet with eternally pregnant wives.

  67. Anonymous at 4:00AM, I just LOVED your "spin the pickle" reference! Besides the comic effect, it also provided such a great visual. :)

  68. I don't think they realize, because of their religious blindness, that Kody "just being there" is not being a father. I think they are amazed and think the sun shines from below his running pants every time he just shows up. I would love for my child to expect me to just show up and be completely enthralled with that. Come on, be a a parent. Get a job, support your 20 McNuggets in your McMansions and be an active parent. Do things with the children. Help with homework. Help with house chores. Help with making dinner, doing dishes, etc. Help with OTHER children not just KING SOL.

  69. Kody is the puppet-master pulling the strings and controlling all those beneath him. The four women and kids have access to him about seven days of the month or eighty four days out of the year and they seem to think that is OK. The older wives have done this for up to twenty years so as miserable as it may get I don't think they are going anywhere. Robyn is enjoying her walk of fame so she is in for the long haul.

I think they read this blog and when they see that some want Janelle or Christine to leave or how mean Meri is that they play up on that for the cameras. They really don't care what we think of them as long as they can do something on the show for better ratings.

I also think that some of them dress frumpy so how can they sell a clothing line. If you want to wear a long sleeve shirt then do so without putting your baby doll pyjama top over top of it. They could wear a short sleeve shirt under a nice jacket or sweater, or they could layer a long sleeve shirt with a nice vest. Janelle seems to dress more along normal lines.

I think as long as this religion has this hold on them, they aren't going anywhere. But what religion thinks it is OK to cheat and swindle.....should that not be wrong in the eyes of a church? I suppose as long as it the government it is OK, but that money came from the taxpayer's pockets.
