Twisted Sister's Sales Go to a Good Cause!

We've all enjoyed Twisted Sister's artwork. Her creations grew, along with the idea to put them up for sale, and put that money to a good cause.

Here's a happy customer/poster holding up her mug! She said it looked awesome!!

Twisted Sister is donating all her proceeds to help K. Dee Ignantin and others with helping ladies leave FLDS and get the help they need. Any purchases you make, 100% of all proceeds will go to charity. There is a huge variety! Here's just a few:

  1. I am so excited. My 17yr. old daughter will go to Utah with her friends church in June to work with "holding out hope". She will meet kids fleeing FLDS.

    1. Wonderful! How did your daughter's church get involved with this group? How much does the church group know about the FLDS? Do the leaders of the teenage church group read SWB??

    2. These people go every year around the same time. It started with Calvery Chapel in our area. Now, my daughter's friend's dad, pastors his own church but I think they still go with the same group. And, yes they are fully trained so I will have to bring my child up to speed. I am not sure they read the blog.... I will ask.

  3. Just saw the new jewelry piece designed "entirely by Meri" over at the Closet. Yup...it's basically a claddagh. I'm seriously so sick of these loons saying they "designed" hearts, dog paws, claddaghs. Basically they grab an existing shape, wrap it in iconic sterling silver and slap their name on it...nasty grifters.

Now off topic! I'm watching Mormonism: Hidden In America on the Destination America channel right now & surprisingly they're covering the Warren Jeffs/FLDS in Colorado City & throwing out the unwanted young males aka Lost Boys.
Oh, & I also learned that LDS established Welfare Square in Utah. Which is a place that mormons in need of help can go & get groceries for free. I'm not sure if we ever discussed this yet, but this is news to me. This segment is actually quited interesting.

    2. Welfare Square is historical in Utah for the Church. Past Presidents have visited it to see how it is run and how it is so successful. Not just anybody can go the Bishop's Storehouse; you do have to see your bishop or relief society president first. Then you request the foods you need for a two week period and take that list to the Storehouse. It's not like going to the grocery store and getting everything you want or need. It's a great system and has helped many people. And yes, I'm LDS but luckily have never needed the Church's welfare assistance. I also watched the show on Desitination America last night. Well done and not too sensationalist. However, they, as everyone does, focus mainly on polygamy and the Church is so much more and better than that.

    3. Yes, I agree the Mormonism show on Destination America seemed actually pretty fair and thorough. I did know that the Mormon Church is very generous to Mormons in need of help, but I was wondering if they are generous to any people other than Mormons. (Can a non-Mormon poor person get any help?) I believe true generosity extends to all peoples.

Things I learned from the show:
there are more Mormons than Jews in the world
Only 3% of Mormons are Black
About 50,000 missionaries a year, about 300,000 converts a year
Usually only date other Mormons, so dating pool limited to about 1% of population.
Joanna Brooks who appeared in the show writes the "Mormon girl" blog SWB has referenced a few times.
Only Temple weddings are for "Time and Eternity", and you "must be chaste" to have a Temple wedding.

****3/17/13 on Biography channel. New show "Escaping Evil:My Life in a Cult". Previews showed Flora jessop, and seemed to be talking about things I read in her book "Church of Lies"****

    4. Yes, nonMormons can get help from the church, however, one would probably need to know someone who is Mormon to introduce them to the presiding Bishop in the Ward in order to get the necessary paperwork, etc. They will help anyone with sustaining "life" but not a "lifestyle" - you can get help with necessary utilities bills such as power but not cable tv as cable tv is not necessary to sustain life. They will give food vouchers for the Bishop's Storehouse before helping with money for a grocery store, tho. I've seen Bishop's pay for things like tires for a car, too. Our Bishop has helped many people in our Ward with house payts and rent due to this lousy economy. We have a huge, and I do mean, huge, clothing fair every year in which all items are completely free to whomever wants to come. No questions asked. Then, afterwards, all the unclaimed clothing is donated locally.

As far as dating, yes it is preferable for anyone to date within their religion (any religion, for compatibility) but certainly not required. I know tons of people who are married to nonmembers and there are no problems. However, it is true, that if you are not a member, or a member in good standing with a temple receommend, you cannot be sealed nor enter the temple for other ordinances. It is not "secret" but "sacred". You can go online to the Official Church website and see all the rooms in the temple, learn about the basics and the purposes of the ordinances. However, the specifics should not be discussed outside the Temple nor with nonmembers.

If I can answer anyone's questions, without violating church protocol, I'd be happy to.

    5. Thank you for clarifying things; sounds like the US government welfare system could learn a lot from the the Mormon Church about how to help the poor in valuable ways.

I agree, most religions do want their members to date and marry within that religion. I do think it's sad, tho, that non-Mormon relatives cannot partake with their Mormon family members in many religious services, especially their own children's weddings. I was raised Catholic, and have some of the same criticisms of that Faith. Nowadays, I think the only thing not allowed in Catholicism by non-members is receiving in the Eucharist, but all can attend religious services.

Only ever knew 2 Mormons personally (although there are three LDS and one Cummunity of Christ churches in my area), and both are very nice people. I would just be devastated tho, if my child married someone, and I couldn't go to the wedding :(

      Delete
    6. Hi all! The area my husband pastored in Kentucky had a food ministry. The members from the LDS church were the most faithful to help even more than our own church. They never complained and were a blessing to our community.

      Delete
    7. To be honest, you're not missing much with the LDS temple sealing/wedding. It's very short. Visitors/nonmembers can be in the waiting area of the temple but not past the front desk. The ceremony is quite short and then the couple comes outside. Pictures aren't allowed inside the temple so all the wedding photos are on the grounds, which can be quite beautiful. There is almost always a huge reception so you would get all the typical things such as a reception line, cutting the cake, etc. Yes, technically, you would miss the "wedding" but being as how short it is, you're not missing much. One of our daughters had a civil marriage by the Bishop in the church instead of a Temple wedding and that is open to everyone. It's not usual but a Bishop could perform a civil ceremony after the Temple ceremony for nonmembers.

On the subject of food ministry...our Stake has partnered with several other church organizations in the area for food drives. We assist with food banks all over the area. We've been told in the past that our ward was asked to slow down or stop with the donations because they had too much. Hard to believe isn't it?

    1. It's under Robyn Sullivan if memory serves, or maybe Robyn Sullivan Brown. I haven't been on it in like forever, but last time I was on her Pinterest, there were all of five pins, and one that was interesting was a frilly apron - kind of the same type you'd find at Sur La Table - I'm guessing that's more what she had in mind when deciding to do an apron for the site, but instead they went the quick cheap route of screen printing their silly-ass juvenile butterfly design.

and btw - does ANYONE need or want jewlery specifically for St Pat's Day? does this mean their next ICONIC piece is coming out on Memorial Day or Fourth of July??? yoikes.

Agree with most of your analysis though I think the main SWC players, Meri & Robyn, are too dumb to understand and figure out how to really take their business seriously. Like everything else, it has the feeling of "let's play house or let's play store." Reminds me of the fantasy way preschoolers play.

You seem to have a busy schedule, so I'm just wondering how do you manage to budget your time soooo much more effectively than the Krew? I mean there's only one of you and how many of them? If I haven't said it before, you have impressed me and I admire what you're doing with the profits so much that I gave this blog, and specifically you, a plug on another board I'm on. I sorta bragged on you. Now, I'll stop gushing like a Brown leg humper, and go shopping for my coozy and some other stuff. My money is burning a hole in my pocket:)

    12. I knew I liked you, Lauralee! We musta been sister wives on a former planet or something. Now you've inspired me to doodle...I mean design...a line of cat food bowls for SWB-ers. It's just not fair for the dogs to have all the fun!

now, where is my doodle notebook...

  32. What a HUGE range of stuff! THAT is an online store! Did you learn it all on the fly or that was your regular life and you used your skills? I only ask because LOOK at what you've done! Wow!

I got an email a few days ago that there are just a few more 2012 Christmas ornaments left... (rolling eyes!) Seriously, good job!

  33. Great Job Twisted Sister! I think it's cute, smart, and fun. Hope you make a bunch for the cause!

  35. Awww, thank you my sweet blog friends!

I've done stuff like this my whole life. I've made so many newsletters, flyers, party decorations, bulletin boards, posters and holiday stuff over the years. I currently plan a monthly themed dinner party for a local restaurant and have to design everything from the centerpieces and place cards to the advertising. I DON'T have to plan a menu or cook, thank goodness.

I'm a total theme queen, and probably would have been a good home-room mother if I had kids!

My dinner party this month is a 60s theme. Next month is going to be a Caribbean theme, and May is a casino night theme. I might need a trip to Las Vegas for inspiration, I think....who is with me?!

  37. Polgyny is more than two wives.....polygamy is just two.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. ACTUALLY ...

Polygyny - the state or practice of having more than one wife or female mate at one time

Polyandry - the state or practice of having more than one husband or male mate at one time

Bigamy - the act of entering into a marriage with one person while still legally married to another

Polygamy - marriage in which a spouse of either sex may have more than one mate at the same time

In other words, Polygamy is the umbrella word than encompasses the various forms of plural marriage.

      Delete
    2. The Browns practice 1/2 open marriage. Koduches half is open and they lost their excuse to claim polygamy due to faith a long time ago!
I guess Kody taking Sobin to nascar was the reason for Meri's poor poor lonely tweet the other night. She was whining that she needed a girlfriend to go paint the town with her. Errrrrr.....I guess the husband's girlfriends cant pass?

Sorry I can not stand to put on tshirts under it though... so hot. But I do not wear my clothing like stuffed sausage either. So happy today even though spent alone just us women folk... where did that husband rotate to?

  40. Our dear husband is off at Caramel Brownie's McMansion today and then tomorrow is Lauralee's special magic night. I think she is pouring her cement pad in the back yard while the weather is nice.

I've given all of my nights to Sinister Drives out of the goodness of my heart. I'll just have to do without any multiplied love for the next month or three. Mrs. Precious Wife, will you mark that on the schedule? I don't want Grody coming into my bedroom on accident!

    1. Ughhhhh, it's already my turn?? >_< ...Well I got appt w/ my trainer then dinner with my new friends I made at the gym. Plus I gotta work on my blog weight loss segment, so I guess he's gonna be pouring the cement pad on his own! I actually have a life now & his rotation nights tend to conflict w/ my super busy schedule now. I'll just do what he does to Christine. Show up really late when everyone is in bed & then he can sneak out early before sunrise! ;) ...Lol

      Delete
    2. OOhhh no you don't TSW! No extra nights for me! (When will I have time to model?) Slept-Into-Debt and I were wrong - the cats weren't pouting for special gifts. They thought they smelled an obnoxious stink coming our way, and have been on guard duty at the foot of the bed!! Scared the poor little rotating idiot away...

And you, CB, and Lauralee have a really good plan! If it's not clear where exactly the cement pad is being poured or in whose backyard, someone might slip or get a gentle push as he tries to rotate in the dark. If we never hear from our fictional shared husband again, we'll all know which cement pads to dig up!

      Delete
    3. No thank you. Dear God, I just got one heck of a nasty visual in my head of Kody ...I just can't even write it. I will be magnanimous and give all my nights to Sinister Drives and Caramel Brownie. No givesees backsees! Y'all know what to do with the pads, I assume? I know nothing and will stay as quiet as a little mouse.

    4. At least Mrs. Precious Wife is getting prepared for the Rotator. She is going to shave her legs and pits....not too sure what she is going to do with the diced celery. Maybe she'll feed it to him in bed with crackers. Maybe she is going to put it in her ears so she doesn't have to listen to how wonderful his fourth wife is.

      Slept into Debt

    5. You know, I just realized that I may have to unseal myself from our dear Kodouche...I'm deathly allergic to celery! That's too bad.

I was really looking forward to our special date night at the corner gas station. We were going to eat nachos and watch the sunset and now I'll have to miss it. I think that Grody was going to try to convince me to rent out Sobbin's baby cave so that I could have lots of spirit children, but my respiratory health is just too important to risk anaphylactic shock from being to so close to Celery-breath for any length of time.

      Shucks.

In other news, I'm having a Wetbar Dinner Party! It's BYOGreenGoo, but I'm making Caramel Brownie's famous ice cubes...so if any of you that aren't currently in rotation, come on by! Oh, and we're taking Instagram photos and tweeting, so bring your best paper plates.

  41. Off Topic - I have been catching up on RHOBH. I am so behind. Adrienne really turned out to be ugly, now didn't she? Speaking of, has anyone seen the star picture of her in 1977? I find it hard to imagine hating one's looks enough to change yourself that much. Why not embrace the beauty of her heritage? Glad I'm an ordinary chump. NO WAY would I risk my life for all those procedures.

    1. Yea I've been watching too! She's totally superficial! Plus her & her ex-husband both hooking up w/ much younger people. Talk about midlife crisis mode & cougarville overload...LOL

      Delete
    2. Okay, so here's my conspiracy theory about the breakup of Adrienne and Paul. I think...the breakup was orchestrated to protect assets. Specifically PAUL'S!!

The Maloof empire had a horrible year...most noticable was the lost of the basketball team and ownership of the Palms in Vegas. Who knows? Divorce in a community property state, assets being divided 50/50. Paul doesn't lose his shirt when the Maloof empire further crumbles financially. A few years down the road, Paul and Adrienne hook back up and ride off into the sunset...

    3. That is a good point, CJ! I never thought about it that way. I've been hoping that Paul will hook up with Brandi Glanville.

  43. Ohhh twisted how can he skip your rotation. I do believe our lives, those lives of gifted, creative, intelligent and educated would overwhelm and overload Mr. KB. If your used to packing RVs up with loads of kids, making vacations out of visiting plyg land instead of a theme park, if hosting dinners with your competition are your idea of excitement then we would surely drive the man bald... a long time ago! I do believe most the people on here have more interests then making iconic joorry of plain silver heart and copying an Irish claddagh over and over, discussing carpet colors and eating a whole lot in parks. I figured out why they do the park thing. FREE venue. I love going to parks, rarely eat at one though. We actually go to the trouble to clean our homes, decorate and have company in to celebrate results of graduating college, realty exams, etc. I am sure rotating is what keeps KB entertained. If he rotated with some of us he would surely explode. LOL.... Ok, going to go back to quilting photos of my husbands kids and wives on a quilt to gift to someone elses son now, change another womans baby diaper of my husbands baby, go to work to support 3 other of my husbands wives who refuse to work, duck and cover behind the wet bar when the orange goddess spews past with pastries smelling of 180 proof and then bathe, shave my legs and pits, dice some celery and prepare for my Rooooottttaaattion (in sing song sheer happiness of a woman who has not had hmmhmmm relations in days).

    1. I still can't tell from that picture any weight loss. I don't know how much weight she's really lost as she doesn't say nor are there ever any pics showing a noticeable weight loss after almost a year now of "working hard" at it. Why was she so vague about her "physical challenge" that pushed her beyond her limits? Would have loved to have been told some specific details re:exactly what she'd done. Just seemed to dance around it all in generic philosophical emotions. I get the strong vibe that it's a ghostwriter on her blog. It's got little personal tidbits thrown in w/the overall generic read imo.

Between posting their instagrams, tweets, closet links, Janelle's fitness blog links, green goo links, etc...they SHOULD be VERY glad that SWB exists.

And wouldn't you think they would have been clever enough to run a special on the green goo for St' Patrick's Day...nah, never mind, we're talking about the Brown Klowns....clever is not in their DNA.
    Cunning, covert.....but not clever.

  48. Going to work on my fitness as Ms. Janelle does look thinner. She looked much smaller I believe in the last season. Yes she is still one of the big girls ... weight loss is so hard. I start out good at 7 a.m., by 9 I am making good choices, by noon I am in starvation mode and eat just a little something. I eat a healthy dinner and by 8 p.m. I am foraging for goodies because after all who is gonna see me anyway? My husband doesnt come around enough for me to even shave my legs. Seriously I just took a 4 mile walk (to the grocery and back). Then I made turkey rueben sandwiches. I did talk to the Mister twice on the phone today so my duty is done. :)

  52. You know, I like Disney as well as most folks, but I also find it exhausting to pull everyone together, the road trip, and usually glad when I get home. someone tell me what is the BIG fascination here? I personally wouldn't want to go 8-10 times a year. Why can't they pick somewhere else to go? It seems they live in a fantasy town with all sorts of things to do, and would spread out there vacations to see other parts of the world?
