Sister Wives Jewelry...Blog Style....

Twisted Sister has been doodling...I mean designing jewelry for the blog.

According to Twisted Sister..."I also felt the need to design a new paw print for a future Wife #5, because I know that Robyn is busy with a toddler wrapped around her legs and learning how to tie adjustable apron strings while updating the website with new spelling errors."

Awww. now we have our own necklace! Finally we're starting our Jewelry Collection!

This blog logo certainly would appeal not only to sister wives but sister  pups! Create your own SWB logo and send it to us!

UPDATED: NO, this is not a sister wife giving the bird, it's a wetbar! TS sent this in, adding: "I figured Meri would want to be on a different paw with her own wetbar, and also have the option to add additional wives as she chooses."

Are you feeling creative? Send us your jewelry, apron, or other creations. We certainly believe that our readers can create better designs than those being sold! mysisterwifecloset.com has been a huge curiosity and a huge disappointment one would think for the die hard fans. It would be interesting what we would have sold in T shirts alone!
If you haven't read our number one post before, be sure and see the review from Cynical:

Get out your Credit Card, mysisterwifescloset.com is ONLINE

Feel free to discuss what you want on this post, and send us your creations!

  1. So cute, had me laughing out loud thinking if there was a sixth wife, a second hand with a dot over the middle finger! Great job Twisted Sister, these are fabulous!!

For some reason, I've been thinking today that those women have a paradoxical situation. Robyn, for example, already has more kids than she can take care of. (Note to Kody, remember when Christine could take care of and home school all the kids?)

Yet, the more kids the more Kody might have to do when there...noise, etc...which makes Meri's house sound better and better...Meri's not fooling me. She knows and will enjoy Kody all to herself. No Kids. She wins Kody all to herself. Now, I would say that's a loss, but I'm not a Kodette.

  2. Twisted Sister your onto something with your doodling.. .I mean de sigh ning. I really have to say Robyn's Valentine designs leave something to be desired... it is a plain heart on a chain and a plain hearts on earrings, the same one apparently already on the silly charm holder thingy. I really don't think joolery designing or doodling is her gig. Now pushing out babies? She won that one. Did you see when she had that HUGE baby? She hardly made a face. Heck she cries every other minute but when she had the baby? Nope. Not until her sobbing with Meri afterward when she offered to womb sit for her sister wife/favorite sister. Yep, got a career for mama Sobyn Robyn... womb sitting. You stir em up in the test tube and she will carry them to term and deliver em fully dressed with their hair blown out. Beautiful. The paw print is hysterical and I mean the original one. I am pretty sure they do not own the Sister Wives name or they would have banked on it and I would have bought something that said Sister Wives. Even the TLC gift shop is very limited an boring but not hysterical.

Hilarious! Thank you for the completely disturbing mental image... if I could draw well, that image would be a heck of an idea for a necklace! Lol!

On another note, these designs are brilliant!

    2. LOVE the designs! LOL!!

MPW, Discovery Networks has indeed trademarked "Sister Wives" for media purposes. Not sure how that would translate to the sale of jewelry since the term has been used previously in common vernacular. Incidentally, I believe it's common for TV/media networks to legally protect their rights to use a show name.

    3. It's not the term "sister wives" that is the legal issue - it's "my sister wife's closet".

I'm VERY surprised that http://www.mysisterscloset.com/ hasn't filed a copyright/trademark cease and desist lawsuit against the Browns.

Just goes to prove...not an original thought in their heads.

    4. Oh and MPW - in response to your comment on the previous thread - I do have an excellent credit score, but I also happen to live in an area where the median home price is currently $702,000.

I love my pad and being able to walk to pretty much everything and my safe town, so I rent...it's a choice...

  3. I especially like the Sister Wives Blog one! So we can make aprons, signs, etc and send them in like the T shirts? Sounds fun!! Hope many posters send some fun deigns in.
I saw a couple of articles about sisterwifescloset.com that were not complementary. Both complained about their prices.
    http://www.examiner.com/article/my-sisterwife-s-closet-prices-might-be-too-high-for-their-fans
    http://www.huliq.com/10473/my-sisterwifes-closet-not-hit-sister-wives-fans

Wonder why they don't create designs for the majority of their fans. I mean, it is a business, and so why don't they make some designs for the "single" gals that just have one husband? Once they come here and read this idea, they just might!

I always think that the designs shown here are better than anything they do, and folks here probably just whip something up, not thinking about sales. Does anyone else wonder why they can't do a better job?

I bet there could be some crazy aprons made!!

    1. "Does anyone else wonder why they can't do a better job?"

Yes indeed. But these are the Browns. They probably think that their "celebrity" alone will sell whatever crap they put up for sale. They don't operate in the real world. Brownville is a place where if you come up with an idea, no matter how random, and put a miniscule amount of effort into it and it fails, no big deal...just come up with another random idea...and so on, and so forth.

In their minds, the items they are selling are amazing simply because they sprung forth from the brain of a Brown, and we're the unreasonable customers who actually demand quality before handing over our hard-earned money. Silly us!!

  4. These are so cute! I really like them!
Anyone dare to bet what they declared for the sisterwifescloset sales for 2012?
My guess... a deficit. A large one to offset $$ made.

  5. Love the Twisted Sister art work !!! And I bet you didn't even need a babysitter, a mani/pedi and a yoga class to get inspired.

TS, Don't know if you are up for moonlighting, but I hear tell there is a jewelry business in dire need of some creative talent !!

I thought I would share a story. I've been cruising the archives, and read about one polygamous man with 10 wives:

I've been trying to think of a design on a TShirt with a golden Lab and a catchy phrase saying something in reference to still being alive and loved.

  11. Why are they making valentines day jewelry anyway? Seems disingenuous considering it's not a big holiday for them, not something a "strong woman" (HA!) would be chomping at the bit to own. I could not imagine my husband paying their prices to get me generic valentines day jewelry.

  12. Remember how how ecstatic Meri and Mariah were when they found out about Robyn's pregnancy with Sol? They were both disproportionally over the moon. So why have we not seen one second of either Meri or Mariah taking care of Sol so Robyn can get her nails done, or go to yoga, or work really really hard filling the two or three MSWC orders she gets every month? What happened to the "OMG I can't wait to rush over there and get my hands on that baby" thing those two had going?

This is just my reaction to Robyn's statement that we all need to ease up on her, because she has to work while she has a baby clinging to her legs...because in her mind, this situation is unique to her and her alone. Her customers would have no earthly idea what that's like......sheesh. I still can't believe she published that comment. Unreal.

  13. The paw print looks like a child reaching out for coins. Their joolry business is a bust. I predict it will fold @ exactly the three year mark. Because that's how long you can report a business at a loss to the IRS before they catagory it as a hobby.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, OutOfTheShadows, EXACTLY! I think they are purposely making it crappy for just that reason.

      Delete
    2. I don't think they are purposely making it crappy. I think that, at least Robyn, thought she did a good job, and all of them thought they had a huge amount of fans who would immediately purchase the jewelry since it was from them.

I agree it will close at the three year mark. By now they know it is a failure. But I believe at the beginning they thought they would be rich.

      Delete
  14. Believe it or not there are women on the facebook closet page that say they have bought the joolery and love it. I REALLY want to buy something but $60. plus shipping for a plain heart necklace? I could buy one at a local store for 14.99 in sterling silver but, still would not because it is something so plain and reminiscent of my teen years back in the 1970's. Cheap dime store joolery wont make most of us ladies very happy. For 30 or 40 bucks you can get some with REAL gemstones and small diamonds. But, you know, I WANNA WET BAR so give the peasants something for $60 dollars we paid $4 retail for! I really see that Christine and Janelle are not real involved in the Jooery business although they are at the fairs.... probably for publicity more then for the sales. And of course to spend a few minutes with the Kodes even though it may not be their day. He had on Robyns paw print charm making him look tre happy. He also wore a strange looking blouse that is probably high end from a really good looking happy male clerk with light loafers.. Just saying...

    1. Interesting that Christine and Janelle are not really involved in the joolry scheme but still show up at the fairs...because in order to sell their products, they have to present a united front even though anyone who has watched the show for two minutes can clearly see that they are far from united. Oh, what a tangled web.....

      Delete
    2. A couple of them re-tweeted a picture posted by Janelle's trainer (I think that's who it was), together with all 4 "wives" and Kody, and I'm pretty sure they were in Meri's new manse, bassed on the furniture. They were all beaming with happiness. But I agree with luarakaye that much (most) of it is for show. In their book, I recall one of them (pretty sure it was Robyn) say that it's important they have a good relationship with each other, to show the world that what they are doing really does work. Aside from all the boo-hooing she does, I think she's the only one of the 4 that's remotely happy. Meri's good right now, cuz she has her wet bar and french doors, but that won't last.

    7. Sorry - not seeing it. Janelle is wearing black. Partially hidden behind Kody and their hands/arms are completely blocking her waist area. Just like the photo of Christine at the Killers concert, a lot of it is due to angles/setup. Speaking of Christine while her face appears to be a bit leaner, she's still got junk in ye old trunk!!

  27. So I have spent the last several days watching old episodes of Polygamy: What Love is This? and doing some additional research.

WOW . I have never been a fan of this lifestyle and always felt that LDS, FLDS, AUB, Davis County etc were brainwashers etc...

EVEN MORE SO NOW. I often wonder what group the plygs that lived behind us when I was a kid belonged to. (we lived in the 4 Corners area in NM and we had moved into town into a duplex before moving back home to Wyoming, well we could see the duplex behind us and realized they didn't have two seperated yards but one and we only ever saw 1 man and 2 women with a bunch of kids. Remember asking my Mom why and she explained to us that some people believed in sharing a man)... that was 1985.

Anyways. Not sure if anyone caught this but the other day an Allred died and his obit was in the SLTrib. Dargers posted on FB that Joe's Uncle Allred had passed. The man is also an Uncle to Christine.

So there is another depth of relationship. Even though I have quickly learned that plyg's are all related somehow. Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents etc.

kOdY says that his parents didn't become Fundamental till he was away on Mission. Well if you look at his Parents Genealogy they both were from Plyg Family backgrounds. It seems that many suddenly "believe in the principle".

My Mom went to College with a "Mormon" from Western Wyoming and he never talked about his Father....it was later found out that they were Polygamists and he was kept on a short leash by older siblings who felt that he should not be friends with anyone non Mormon or Fundie.

Research the murdering done by the LDS, and the D and C as it has been rewritten every time a Prophet has a hankering. The Fundies are still following the 1830 D and C I believe.

I feel so bad for the kids in these situations as they are often left feeling unloved and with deep resentments.

The Browns...well I wish with my Bad Credit...High High High Student Loans to be able to buy a brand new house. Heck I just want to move out of our 1 bedroom trailer we live in! But we instead live within our MEANS.

We also have been trying to have a child for the 8 years we have been married...and when kOdY starts tossing around iVF etc.. I am disgusted.. they have that sort of $$$??

It ain't cheap folks. Your taking from one wife and kids budget to cover the other wifes desires...where is the $$ for IVF going to come?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would think that most LDS who were raised LDS (and not recent converts to the religion) are bound to have polygamist ancestors. Such as Mitt Romney. That doesn't mean they believe in it for themselves or they are fated to follow it as well. It is what it is, and there's no reason to vilify someone for their family's past. I just remember the controversy during the recent election about Romney's grandparents or whatever being plygs, as though he himself would have tried to make it legal should he have become POTUS. From what I've read, most LDS are NOT in favor of polygamy, at least not in this life, and just consider that bit a part of their past history, just like in the Old Testament you had men with multiple wives as a matter of course.

      just sayin'.

      Delete
    2. And IMO - the IVF was just a story line. From what I know, medical insurance generally won't cover most of the costs, nor will public assistance. If Kody in his "wisdom" wants to shell out the buckaroos for the procedure, have at it. But I think it was clear in the interview at the end of this past season that he knew YEARS ago that Meri wasn't interested. Like CJ said, she's using this as a way of keeping Kody on the string.

      Delete
    3. I remember Kody's odd way of discussing the money for the IVF. "If you want to do it, Meri, we can just drop that money there right now." He didn't say, "We'll sacrifice something else, or we'll scrape it together." He made it sound like that have a big pile of money, and he'd just drop that bundle right here, right now.

I still get confused as to why we call things like this "reality" TV.

      Delete
    4. I am 56 years old and was raised mormon, baptized, grew up in Utah and now consider myself what is known as a jack mormon. I dont attend church or follow the mormon beliefs any longer except for those taught to me as the golden rule, do unto others etc. My great grandparents were polygamists and I only found that out by doing some genealogy research a few years ago. What is funny about it is that growing up, we were only taught about our great grandmothers life and were never told about the other wife(s)or their children and grandchildren. I do not know any polygamists personally, but have seen groups of them around throughout my lifetime.

      Delete
    5. Hi DayDream Believer, could you possibly tell me where to find those episodes? I am interested in watching them..thanks...:)

      Delete
    6. True Dakota Justice. Mitt Romney had polygamist ancestors (great grandparents, I think?). And even more current - our sitting POTUS, President Obama, is the son of a polygamist. No one talks much about that though....

      Delete
    7. I think the IVF was exaggerated for the show, but I think Meri deliberately does not voice the fact that she is done having kids. I have a theory that the reason Kody doesn't have a son named after him, Kody Jr, even after having 6 boys with 3 wives is because Meri forbid the other women from ever doing that. I'm sure she said that was something she was entitled to do, as The first wife. Saying she is done with kids would mean she is never going to have a son and would open up the door for Robyn to have a little Kody Jr. Meri couldn't let that "privelidge" be taken from her, even if she will never use it. I would imagine all these wives would love to have that claim on the husband, naming their son after him.

      Delete
    8. Anon 9:16 -I believe that the definition of "polygamist" is that all parties are aware of the relationships. From what I read - President Obama's mother had no idea at the time she was pregnant with him. That would be bigamy, NOT polygamy.

However, our President barely knew his father and was raised by his mom and grandparents and obviously they did a great job :)

Polygamy has not always been considered bad. And I will NOT vilify anyone -ANYONE - by their parent's or ancestor's actions. Just as we always have said here about the Brown kids - none of them made the choice to be in that family, to have Kody for a father...

  28. Peanut Butter FritosFebruary 4, 2013 at 12:45 PM

I think Kody needs a rotating piece so it can say he loves the lover whose day it is. It would also help the kids and the other wives to know which house to avoid that night.

He could get one of those beaded bracelets like you make at camp (not much different than that jewelry!) and have the bead have all four names. AWWW.

  29. Several new posters are coming on and saying that initially they were fans of SW but after reading the information and facts shared here on SWB, they are now frustrated, if not disenchanted, with the Brown adults.
I came on SWB...because..after watching the 1st season, something just didn't seem right (credible) with them and I googled to see if there were any sites discussing the show.
I knew very little about polygamy other than the obvious, and knowing about the Jeffs debacle and reading all the press reports about it at that time. I also had been a loyal viewer of "Big Love," which is what prompted me to watch SW in the first place. Big Love was fiction, and I wanted to see the lifestyle "for real."
The Browns stated from the very first episode that they did the show to "educate the public" about polygamy, conveniently leaving out the now obvious primary reason....which was to have yet another *easy* money stream to trump their former failed businesses. They had hit the big time with TLC.

Unfortunately for them, not only did they badly underestimate the power of the Internet to negate or validate stated facts, and find hidden ones...their version of "educating the public" turned out to be watching staged or un-staged scenarios that darken rather than shine on their chosen lifestyle.

What their show has done is issue a wake-up call to decent taxpayers who now know what "bleeding the beast" is... and also just *what kind* of people routinely do it without a twinge of guilt or shame. They showed double-digit numbers of children who live with lonely, dysfunctional mothers and who rarely see, let alone interact, with their father. They have shown narcissism, greed and entitlement in full bloom.

SWB has certainly been an eye opener for me about the actual facts and process of the Plyg lifestyle. And it certainly has provided so much more info than has EVER been stated or offered by the Browns in over three years of their show.

I really want to thank the administrators of this blog for not only creating a forum for discussion of SW, but also for consistently providing links and information about the breath and scope and variables of the lifestyle.
It has been quite an education.

I have gone back to the first posts in June, 2011, and am slowly wending my way through (am still in June '11 after two weeks!). What a wealth of information. I, also, thank the writers of this blog!

    5. Add me to the list! I started watching the show on Netflix the day after Christmas out of sheer boredom and a high fever. Initially, I was a fan. I enjoy reading memoirs, autobiographies, etc., and hearing other people's stories. I liked this show (at first) because they did seem happy and *normal* and it changed my perception of the religion and polygamy in general. As my fever and flu symptoms worsened, I became obsessed with the show and had to watch all 3 (or 4 or 5) seasons immediately. I blame the post nasal drip.

I came to this blog late in life, and really enjoy the thoughts and commentary of this blog family. What I first thought was a happy, somewhat normal family, has turned into a virtual reality TV train wreck. I admit, I've gone back and started watching the episodes again to see what some of you were talking about.

Hopefully, when the new season starts, I'll catch pneumonia or something so that I'll have an excuse to watch it. As a perfectly healthy, sane adult...I really don't have a good reason to devote any time to it, other than I want to be able to come on here and discuss it with you, my Sister Wives Blog Sister Wives...

  34. So the apron is on MSWC.

They list exactly what material it is made of.
They give detailed measurements (down to the 1/2 inch)
They give washing instructions, and where it is made.

Christine looks really good in the picture where she and Aspyn are modeling it (didn't recognize that it was Christine at first).

I still don't get the dotted lines coming out of the bottoms of the butterflies. Is it contrails?

    1. Maybe the dots are to remind us that it's not just an apron, it's a custom designed ICONIC apron! Or it could just represent the butter-paw-flies marking their trail...(kind of like Kody did when he ran around the McMansions to put his stink on them).

      Delete
    2. butter-paw-flies. like!

They could improve their photo composition skills...like hanging a dark cloth to provide a contrasting background, and having the subjects closer together so that the teapot is not the focus of the picture. Christine is a natural with the poses though, and they did choose shirt colors to pick up the colors in the butter-paw-flies.

The tee shirts must be so much more comfortable without the circulation restricting spahgetti strap camisoles cutting into their shoulders.

Ok I love this blog but have a question I cannot wrap my head around this. The jewelry designs are horrible--the new valentines collection is literally just a plain heart--for $70. The website is unprofessional with spelling errors, a crappy return policy and outrageous shipping costs. In fact the new post ont the MSWC Facebook page basically says how unprofessional they are. But the Facebook fans LOVE them-- all the comments are how amazing the Jewelry is and how strong the women are. Oh the best is what a 'great' dad kody is. Ummmm how are all these people that blind? Great jewelry? Have they gone to Kmart lately--they would probably have a heart attack over the great pieces there (for $50 less). Have they seen the show where kody can't even watch the kids for a few hours? How about where the women show how much they dislike one another/ have jealousy issues? Anyone who tries to post anything negative quickly gets told to shut up and be positive by thier legions of adoring fans. A woman posted how long it took to recieve the necklace and how poor the quality was and was basically told to stuff it. It seems like the mantra on that page is "they are trying--leave them alone." talk about amazing customer service ....

  40. Janelle posted a fairy tale.... as if the show was not a fairy tale trying to be sold to us already. Lawd yall. The woman weighed 280 (disclosed) and thought if she sweat and worked out in 90 to 180 days her life would be a perfect reality. I am a big girl too who has lost the weight, more then once. I am old enough and cognitive enough not to believe in fairy tales. It takes a lifetime of change and of healthy eating habits with exercise. It would take me putting down these popcorn flavored jelly bellies right now. Because of genetics some of us are predisposed and have to work harder. No fairy tale there. I can not believe she posted that being that most the world thinks these poor women live in a land of delusion and pain anyway. http://blogs.discovery.com/sister-wives/2013/01/a-fairytale.html#mkcpgn=fbtlc27

    1. well not to mention that there are countless weight loss blogs, books, articles, posts, TV shows, etc etc etc that say PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THING that Janelle is talking about - namely that losing weight doesn't automatically solve all of life's problems. I suspect that Janelle has read her share of these types of articles etc before (who hasn't because it comes up in pretty much any type of weight-loss discussion forum, website, book etc etc) and is basically parroting this in her blog, which I'm sure TLC pays her a little bit to write. The thing that kills me is the people who comment there acting like she's bringing up some amazing revelations that no one else thought of or experienced before. Jeez, pretty much every past season of The Biggest Loser has former contestants talking about "I thought my life would be perfect after I got thin, but the same problems are still there..."

I only go once a month to weigh in and sometimes stay for the meeting. Such a great support system. It makes a difference to have their help and encouragement. I wish Janelle would try it. It is so much more than exercise and diet, it is an education in how we view food.

  43. I read this blog all the time ("religiously," you might say), and I enjoy it, but I have never commented until now. I am 5 feet 1 inch tall and am pear-shaped with a disposition toward plumpness. I have struggled all my life with my weight. In my 30s (I'm in my 50s now, have learned a lot about myself and how to maintain my weight, and I weigh about 135 and am happy with that) I weighed 172 pounds. I was in an unhappy relationship with no way out (because of my religious beliefs at the time), and I ate. What can I say. It was HARD to take it off. It's easy to feel discouraged when the efforts aren't enough to pay off in weight loss or loss of inches. I wish people would stop ragging on Janelle and her weight loss blog. Just because she is not writing anything startling or new doesn't mean that what she has to say isn't valid or significant or important, or that it can't help others who are going through the same anguish. I admire Janelle for doing this for herself--AND for helping others by being so public and writing about it on her blog--she knows people will make fun of her and pick apart what she is saying, but she doesn't let that stop her. I get frustrated when Janelle "shuts down" about family issues. I hope she doesn't get discouraged at all the nitpickers and nay-sayers and shut down her dieting and exercise efforts as well. And I hope she keeps writing in her blog. You go, Janelle.

    2. Janelle's weight isn't so much the issue. Sure, she probably would be healthier physically and emotionally if she lost the excess weight. However, she dresses more appropriately and stylishly than the others. She does have a very pretty face and smile.
I cringed for her back in season 2 when the wives all went to the gym and got weighed. Thankfully, I don't have a weight problem, but if I did, that experience would have been torture. It was cruel to see her have to go through that on camera.

But like all the rest of them in Kodyworld, it appears that she has to make a normal life challenge that is shared by many others now be a major attention getter. Just like Sobbin having to struggle with a toddler or Christine having to study.

Also, it is contradictory that Janelle who comes off as a very private person, and who usually is noticeably reticent to give opinions and take a stand on any matters of importance or substance, is just flowing with smooth words on her dieting blog. Perhaps becasue she actually *cares* about it....??

I do agree with some other posters when they say her blog is certainly not offering cutting edge info on the do's and don'ts and stress of dieting. It just isn't. But I wish her well for her goal. Just don't see why it has to be another *public* Kodyworld production ?!

I also agree that there likely must be a perk, be it money or a way to get new SW, MLM, Closet, etc fans, in the mix for her to do it, given her naturally private disposition.

      Delete
    3. The really sad thing about Janelle's weight problems is that with all the jealousy between the women, she must know (even if her rivals won't admit it)that they're secretly glad that someone is bigger than them. And Sobbin's passive aggressive comments in the past about being the only one not to work out (implying "because I'm so skinny and don't need it like these obese women, and that's why Kody thinks I'm hot") can't have helped.

      Delete
    4. *"Also, it is contradictory that Janelle who comes off as a very private person, and who usually is noticeably reticent to give opinions and take a stand on any matters of importance or substance, is just flowing with smooth words on her dieting blog. Yes. Perhaps she actually cares about it. Which likely makes the nitpicking and the naysaying all the more hurtful.

--In addition, I find it sad but humorous that Janelle should be nitpicked for having a polished and prolific writing style; if she wrote as badly as Robyn does, she'd be criticized and made fun of for THAT. Instead, she writes prolifically, and is so much more open in her blog than on TV that her blog is criticized as "just flowing with smooth words." Yes, it *is.* That's one of the reasons why it's so good.

*"I do agree with some other posters when they say her blog is certainly not offering cutting edge info on the do's and don'ts and stress of dieting. It just isn't."*

I don't think the point of her blog is to give cutting edge diet info. I think the point of her blog is to share her journey. Even though she is private. --Because she *cares.*

People struggling with losing large amounts of weight can easily feel overwhelmed and discouraged. Sometimes they don't want weight-loss tips; sometimes they just to know they're not alone. Reading of someone else's struggles and triumphs can be very, very encouraging. Janelle's blog is likely already encouraging lots of other people involved in similar struggles, women in particular.

*"I also agree that there likely must be a perk, be it money or a way to get new SW, MLM, Closet, etc fans, in the mix for her to do it, given her naturally private disposition."*

      Of course. So?

      Again, Janelle, you go girl.

    5. Sister Kolobster,
You make good points. You really do.
And I too wish her well.

The point remains, though, that if a person puts themselves out there in the public eye, both in the media and the Internet, they are going to generate attention. And there will be differences of perception and opinions as to what the audience sees. Just like here on SWB.

    6. As someone who grew up chubby/fat and spent time as an obese adult (same weight and height as Janelle - 265 lbs at a shade under 5'4" tall) BUT was able to take off 100+ pounds and more importantly, maintain that loss for 20+ years...I do feel I have the right to speak.

First off - Janelle, as well as the rest of the Browns, have chosen to be in the public eye. Their kids were pretty much forced to go along with the whole thing so I would tend not to be hypercritical of them. However, for the adults, anything they put out there - especially since I am pretty sure that TLC is paying Janelle something to write a blog outside what the family already gets for the show - is fair game. I don't know whose idea it was to make "the wives diet woes" a plot line, but the fact is Janelle DID participate, and DID allow her weigh in to be filmed and recorded. Therefore it falls under the show plotline, and open for discussion, including criticism which is what this blog is at least partially about IMO.

Since I have such an interest in health, fitness, obesity and weight control - I have read literally hundreds of blogs, articles, books, posts (I was a moderator at a very popular weight loss/diet forum for 5 years) over the last 30+ years or so.

What Janelle is writing is REALLY nothing new - it seems to be lifted from other blogs/articles/etc. For example, the recent post about how she "discovered" that losing weight doesn't solve life's problems. Hello - she's lost, by her own admission - maybe 10 pounds over the past year and a half - isn't it a little premature for that post? One that I've read countless times by other people who have actually lost measurable weight to be able to really make that observation?

Another thing that makes me want to shake her is that she is clearly not doing something - a MAJOR something - right. Yup, there ARE people out there who have a more difficult time losing weight than others (due to thyroid issues, menopause or what have you), but they are few and far between. I've seen some posts here in defense of Janelle blame menopause - she's not even 40 yet. I'm 50 - so I am aware that as one gets older that sometimes it can be more difficult to lose weight - but it's far from impossible. IMO, 99 percent of people with weight issues need to follow the basic rule of decreasing caloric intake - not just "eating healthier" but a blend of eating healthy foods in moderate portions. For a lot of people who are in the same boat as Janelle, that means educating themselves as to what a proper sized portion really is for them and at least in the beginning, keeping a food journal of not only what, but how much they are taking in - as well as cleaning out the kitchen of "red light" foods. The #1 excuse from a lot of parents is that they need to keep such and such food around for their kids etc. However, Janelle's kids are all old enough to be able to live with healthy food choices. Keeping red light foods around the house (especially since janelle wrote about nights being the worst time for her as far as overeating goes) "for everyone else" is no different than someone trying to quit smoking when others in the house keep ciggies around. If the kids want to eat something that Janelle has issues with, then they have plenty of opportunities during the day to partake away from home, especially if they really care about supporting their mom in her efforts

Bottom line - exercise is a great starting point, but if Janelle really wants to lose measurable weight she needs to stop making excuses for herself (which is what her blog seems to me - a lot of defeatist excuses) and do something about her diet. She needs to get real and stop living in fairy tales.

Oh and yes, I believe that the eventual spin is that IF she actually ever really gets on the stick and loses weight, that it will be spun into a shill for their LIV MLM.

      Delete
    7. Perhaps I am out of line, and I haven't read Janelle's blog recently, so I may be out of turn. But, for me, a very large obstacle to healthy eating has been the expense. This past year, I have experienced levels of poverty that I never imagined that I would have to navigate...and I gained nearly 20 pounds. It wasn't only the very heavy carb diet that I was forced to adopt, but there's something that happens to the mind when you know that food is scarce. I know it sounds strange, but when you honestly don't know how you'll get through the week on only a tiny bit of food, and your cupboards are literally bare, it's easy to inhale whatever food you have around you because you're afraid of starving.

All I'm saying is that Janelle might have gone through the same experience. With 15 children to feed, the family HAD to come up with cheap, filling options to eat. And most of those options are not very healthy. Now that they have a bit of money, Janelle can make some changes...but it takes a while to feel okay about spending extra money on healthy food. She would feed her children before herself, plus she's probably addicted to carbs at this point, so it's tough to move forward.

      Delete
    8. I know that's a perception - that eating healthy is expensive - I've been debating that for years. Healthy eating need not be pricey. In fact this past weeks ep of The Biggest Loser touched on that exact topic - and challenged the contestants to shop for their week's food with each contestant given $70 ($10/day) to spend.

Being a smart shopper, staying primarily in the "outside lanes" and buying produce in season (and therefore at its cheapest) is key. Looking for good prices and stocking up on bargains - when chicken breasts are on sale, I buy a lot and freeze them in individual Ziplock bags or containers. Farmers markets have great local produce and eggs etc and usually one can "haggle" with the sales person.

Beans, oatmeal etc are hella cheap when bought in bulk and so easy to prepare!

In fact the biggest loser contestants spent less than their allotted budget and did fine :)

(Ps - I normally do not endorse the Biggest Loser as I feel the show is unrealistic as far as the extreme exercise regimen, but there are educational bits such as smashing the "eating healthy is expensive" food myth).

    9. Another thing that makes me want to shake her is that she is clearly not doing something - a MAJOR something - right.

I'm in total agreement with you on this one DJ. When I was clearly going thru menopause I was able to lose weight by simply walking 2 miles (actually 1.8 miles) almost every day. It was gradual, but it did happen! My pedometer was my best friend! And like my mother used to tell me, I had to use more calories than I consumed in order to lose weight.

When I went to the gym every other day 10 years earlier, it was more to maintain and tone, not to lose weight. And that's exactly how my trainer presented it to me. So I'm at a lost as to what Janelle's personal trainer is trying to do with her...it sounds like she would have trouble walking 150 feet a day but she's lifting weights and doing reps?

99 percent of people with weight issues need to follow the basic rule of decreasing caloric intake - not just "eating healthier" but a blend of eating healthy foods in moderate portions.

Many years ago, a friend of mine claimed she was on a diet and only ate salads for lunch. The problem was, when she made her salad, she poured A CUP of salad dressing on top of her "salad" that was piled high with ham, cheeses, fruits, beets, nuts, raisens, what ever was at the salad bar. She ate more calories at lunch than I ate in an entire day, but SHE was on a diet!

I think an excellent storyline next season would be for a celebrity nutritionist to go through the sister wives McMansion cupboards and refrigerators and throw out all the high carb high fat crap and replace it with healthy alternatives.

    13. Omg CJ - I see that kind of thing all the time!!!
Also chicken breasts - I get ladies saying "oh I'm just having one boneless skinless chicken breast for dinner" and it turns out to be a 12 ounce monster breast - that is 3-4 portions' worth but because its lean protein they figure its ok-until they get on the scale and see that their weight has gone up or stayed the same...no matter where calories originate if you eat too many they are still gonna add up.

I'm making my favorite chicken meal now - I call it a fajita salad - 3 oz of sliced chicken breasts stir fried in nonstick spray with sliced peppers, mushrooms and onions...add a little low sodium fajita seasoning...meanwhile cut up a small low-cal tortilla into strips and pop in the toaster oven til they get a little chewy/crispy...combine the fajitas in a big bowl with a lot of angel hair shredded green cabbage, some pico de gallo and spicy salsa, a tiny bit of shredded Mexican cheese and a spoonful of fat free sour cream - garnish with the tortilla strips...yum and so filling for about 425 calories :)

    1. Hi Anonymous: I suspect that it's eventually going to dawn on the Browns that this show has cost them more money than it's made them. Even the most generous estimates of TLC income that are floated around here are not enough to make this financially worthwhile.

In Utah, they were able to afford their lifestyle by living in one large house with four separate compartments. Of course, they were "helped" with that affordability with their questionable bankruptcies and welfare.

Due to their participation on this show, the Browns felt that they were in legal jeopardy, so they moved to Nevada. They couldn't find a single house that would fit them all in Nevada, and they couldn't find four side-by-side pre-owned houses, so they had to buy four new ones. Plus, they still own the house back in Utah. They're unable to work at "normal" jobs because they're public figures, and controversial ones at that. Wal-Mart is not going to hire Kody as their greeter. And, while I don't have a lot of sympathy for this point, their fame has rendered them unable to discreetly file for bankruptcy and welfare.

    4. Hi prometheamoth: I disagree with those who say that the legal investigation was a ruse to move to Nevada. People genuinely get frightened when they learn that legal action against them is a possibility, especially when they know that they broke the law. It might have been cowardly for the Browns to flee, and Kody may have had a fantasy about living in Vegas one day, but I believe there was true fear behind the move.

      Delete
    5. The fear was manufactured by Kody, but the kids - at least the younger ones - believed it. Maybe Christine did too - the stories of their grandparents going to prison (in the 1950s) are dramatized plyg lore that they hang on to as part of their "we're special!" persecution complex and IMO Kody wants to be part of the legend in his own mind...just like bill Henricksen got angry when his attorney told him (s2 of big love) that the DA didn't care about his polygamy as long as he didn't do anything else illegal.

  45. I am about to lead a study of Mormonism at my church. Does anyone have any suggestions as to resources I might look into. I don't have a Kindle or a Nook, just good 'ol paperbacks for me. I have read "Under the Banner of Heaven", "The Book of Mormon", "The Doctrines and Chronicles", "Pearls of Wisdom", "The Favorite Wife" and I just ordered "Mormons for Dummies". Any advice is MUCH appreciated as I have 4 little ones hanging off my legs and I can't be trusted to use proper grammar, let alone inform a small group of adults as to the truths of a cult :)

This is an organization run by a man who left the Mormon faith. Their office is in Mesa, AZ - very close to the LDS temple. Lots of study/training information on their website. I've heard him and his wife speak, and they are very well-informed because they were genuinely involved with the LDS faith.

You tube also has many videos pro and con mormonism and fundamental mormonism. Look at mormons.org . Call your local LDS church. Read Fawn Brodie's book "No One Knows My Story".

You are covering a broad topic! Mainstream LDS says Fundamentalist Mormons are NOT Mormons. You can find the story of the splinter groups on old SW blogs. You Can read the original "THe 19th Wife" for free on the internet. You can also google other free books and information.

They don't pussyfoot around the issues w/the whitewashed history/doctrinal issues and current PR media that's carefully spoonfed to their members as well as to the public. Very factual documented info and also full of added links to go down the rabbit hole as far as you want to go.

Janelle, Christine with weight loss... I believe they saw Kody paw all over Robyn who is not even pretty but had a great figure and they probably are trying to get hot to get his attention back. After all they are pretty and more his type, as well as having history and mucho babies with him. Not a bad plan. Or, Janelle figures if the whole bunch of viewers is watching her then she will stick to it. I am glad she is doing what she can for herself. She deserve to treat herself well, love and kindness, and all the support from everyone. I dont think the beginning of the series Kody really cared if they were fat or thin. She looks fine either way.

    1. I like aprons, but the ones I like have sexy style and are well made - for the same price or less than this one. Aprons are actually quite popular amongst people I know, they are great to wear when having dinner/cocktail parties. Sur La Table and Williams-Sonoma,among other retailers, carries a nice selection of different aprons. SLT's are more pretty/sexy, while WS are more traditional, but in great colors.

    3. I don't think Robyn's tweet is rude or confusing. TLC probably prefers that they control these communications, not the talent on their shows. It's either in the Brown's contracts or been made clear to them post contracting. I don't think it's that big of a deal and Robyn was probably just getting tweets from so many people asking about it she felt she had to say something. She's darned if she doesn't answer, as people will call her unresponsive and rude and she's darned if she does answer when people judge the content, grammar or tone of her answer. I think people need to lay off, imho.

    4. I don't think Robyn's tweet is rude or confusing. TLC probably prefers that they control these communications, not the talent on their shows.

Then TLC needs to apply that rule to ALL of their contracted talent. Honey Boo boo not only announced they had been renewed but also the different holiday shows they would be filming. In fact, on her non TLC fanpage, there's a posting from Feb 3 discussing renewal, as well as many episodes are being filmed and when the last holiday special will air.

If there is a gag order imposed, why is it only against the Browns? And yes, her tweet is definitely confusing because TLC announced to online news media that Sister Wives was renewed for season 4.

Hate to disappoint you but as long as Robyn continues to tweet nonsense to her 'fans' SWB will call her out on it!

  56. MPW - If Kody didn't care about what shape his wives are in at least a little bit, then why the whole stink about how gross he thought Christine was when she was eating nachos before they were "married"?

    ReplyDelete
  57. I agree about Christine and Janelle slimming down to somewhat compete with Robyn. Look at Christine. She's struggled the past few seasons with how little she sees Kody, yet knows Robyn is reaping the benefits of their marriage much more. Throw in the Darger's with their little fitness competitions for hottest wife who keeps Papa Joe's attention, and you see why Christine has decided to slim down. And how demeaning that must be to feel the need to compete for your husband's attention by staying slim. There's nothing wrong with keeping fit and healthy, but these women are fighting for their place. Sad really.

It doesn't take a man to give a woman will power to want to change. In this case, I guess it did. Had Janelle been built like Robyn when she and Kody gotten together, would he have seen her in a more romantic light instead of the brainchild of the group? I'm thinking maybe.

Christine is looking good these days. Just saying. :)

  58. True about Kody @ Dakota. He did say that stupid comment about her eating nachos and being chunky. I was looking back at the 2nd season and saw even then he made some rude remarks to Christine like she wasn't worthy. In one program he says I dont even like you right now and she said, I am so not taking that personal (like you say to your teenager). I hope this woman finds a man to really MARRY for real and not pretend who loves her completely. Looking back through episodes Meri ALWAYS finds a way to try to get the attention and dominate. I did not want to see her get a colon screen for goodness sakes. I see she likes doctors procedures running to clinics for infertility and nonsense. Infertile? NOoooo she had one child.
She has sexual relations on a rotating basis which she may not even be ovulating when her man chooses to enter her door on the triplex (historically speaking). Also I believe the woman took birth control and told Kody those were her daily ugly pills for depression or something else to get his sympathy. If she had a baby the baby would get attention even making her work harder to gain attention. She strives and acts for sympathy. Another ten years her ugly mug wont even win her any sympathy as he has replaced her with a few younger models. She is grasping reality and is full aware that she has to manipulate more as he marries younger, prettier, thinner models. She has been with him the longest and knows what works. In a episode she also had Robyn about to cut her throat over the placement of tables for a dinner. Robyn kind of throws the table in a small fit. I imagine they had words a few times in the beginning.

Meri's sister died of colon cancer. I looked at this being a PSA for EVERYONE to have a colonoscopy, especially if your family has a history of colon cancer or polyps like Meri's family. This is probably the only thing the Browns did halfway right.

  63. Have a question for seasoned posters.
WHY can a sitcom make 24 shows a season, when they have to written and practiced.
This is supposedly a "reality" show - one that would be much easier to create and produce, yet they can't seem to make 6 shows every 6 months.
Does anyone else see a problem here? My guess is that they are so hard to deal with, with ridiculous demands, it takes forever to get enough good film just to make one show. Otherwise, why could they not film 24 shows with ease?
Anyone else see a problem with this?

    1. Or maybe they're just so boring that it's hard to find anything WORTH shooting. Visiting the school for parent/teacher conferences? Shoot, I didn't enjoy that with my OWN kids, much less watching someone else. And how many times have they shown the zipline on Fremont Street? (Their) family history? Borrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnggggg. Them buying their houses? Same. (Is there ANYTHING more boring than mortgage paperwork?)

If it weren't for the fact that we're waiting to see when (not if) the train jumps the track, this wouldn't be worth watching at all. These are not interesting people, and some of them don't seem to be even nice people.

    2. Isn't it ironic that Kody was forced out of boring Lehi and he landed in one of the most exciting places on the Planet Earth, and their show has yet to film any of the excitement Las Vegas has to offer?

Even RHOBH films at least one show per season in Las Vegas (last season there had to be at least 3 including Lisa's daughter Pandora's bridal shower). The past episode the gang was shown in Las Vegas. Now I don't think it would be appropriate for Meri and her sister wives to be shown taking dance lessons utilizing a pole, but come on... there are a lot of attractions that the Browns tweet about (like going on the Stratosphere jump with their LIV buddies) but viewers of the show never see.

It almost feels like the Browns are on probation - I bet if the ratings are way down for the 1st half of season 4, that mid season hiatus they've been taking the past 2 seasons will become a PERMANENT hiatus. Which would explain why TLC has placed a gag order on the family announcing anything about season 4 to their fanbase.

  64. Why oh why is the Discovery Health Channel airing SW re-runs from the first season? This is not a healthy family- the 1st 3 wives have admitted to anxiety or depressive disorders, they had very unhealthy diets until recently, and the dynamic of their family leaves everyone in a chronic state of chaos. Whoever does programming over at Discovery Health should have probably watched a few episodes before handing the Browns a check- they really should have left Sister Wives over at TLC with the Amish breakers, Gypsy weddings and tiny beauty queens.

I'll admit that the Browns do seem to have a talent for grifting...TLC and now Discovery money, green goo pyramid scheme money, joolry & apron & book money(supported by their devoted fans). Can only imagine what they'll come up with next to keep the cash flowing!

  65. I, too, have wondered why they cannot bring more than 6 episodes during a season. My guess is that they just aren't that interesting. They don't have jobs they go to. They don't seem to have these enormously intriguing personalities that stick out as ideal television characters. Aside from their lifestyle, they are just your every day single mom families.

I imagine that grocery store trips aren't recorded so that their food choices aren't critiqued (or methods/previous methods of payment for said groceries). I struggle at times to grocery shop with 1-2 children. Six kids would be a nightmare for me. I would love to see Janelle or Christine shop with all of their kids in tow.

TLC went into this "supposedly" to put a positive spin on polygamy---or did they? Were they banking on this being a total bust on the positive side and actually being able to film a train wreck from start to finish? Is TLC waiting on the chance to film a wife enduring the straw that broke the camel's back and walking away? I doubt this family would ever allow it's viewers to witness that. If that were to happen, it will be long after the cameras are gone. They definitely cannot afford to show any more discord if they wish for fans to see the benefits of this lifestyle.

The deuces photo is so funny. Robyn looks like the odd man out with her dorked out chucking of the deuces. Everyone else looks like pros with the deuces. They totally have teenagers. :P
