sltrib.com : Polygamous Darger family meeting with Utah lawmakers

TLC
Now here's an interesting article. Papa Joe plus wives and some children have been meeting with Utah legislators. Not only that, but handing out their book, too. If you ask me (and I know you would have) it seems Papa Joe is paving his own way to winning the hearts and minds of the people of Utah, one legislator at a time. Just file this under another instance where the Browns fell short (I mean, did they ever give away their book to anyone, let alone those mean ole Utah legislators) and the Dargers stepped up. Mark my words, the Dargers will soon become THE face of polygamy. Kody Brown will remain its' backside.

Here's a link to the full article:

Polygamous Darger family meeting with Utah lawmakers

And for those who need to get their Sister Wives fixation fixed, here's a link to another SLTrib article that will link you up to an online quiz that matches you to one of Kody's ko-dypendents. Why, I don't know, but I'm sure there are some 5th wife wannabees who are loving this crapola.

Buzzfeed matches readers to ‘Sister Wives’

On the Twitter side, looks like Robyn is getting tired of those people asking when she is due. So rather than go the all out exercise in a gym route, she's taking the ...how do you say...the more 'refined' physical activity of yoga to melt that extra poundage lurking around her midsection.

Frankly, a good spanx should suffice, but I guess she can learn to meditate during those evenings Kody is with the other sisterwives instead of taking her frustration out on twitter...

And just to prove a point, here's the tweet where Robyn says she's channeling her grandmother...

Oh dear, looks like Kody is feeling a little put out...Papa Joe is taking care of polygamy business in Utah while Kody is left to admire the sunsets of Las Vegas, his Plymouth Rock. Pilgrims aside, Kody has  twittered twice that he is in 'exile'. Of course, he fails to explain that his 'exile' was SELF IMPOSED, so I'll do it for him.

HEY KODY!!! YOUR EXILE WAS SELF IMPOSED!!!

Anyway, he's got a beautiful sunset and 4 outrageously expensive McMansions to play house in. What more could he asked for, now that Papa Joe and family are working it hard with the legislators. Guess you should have stayed in Utah after all.

Poor Kody. Three days later and no newspapers have picked up his 'exile' comment.  Here's an idea, take yoga lessons with Robyn! She'd like that!

  2. I don't understand why Kody and family were "Exiled" from Utah but the Darger family is rubbing elbows with legislature. Why aren't the Dargers also being "Exiled?" Just more proof that leaving Utah was just for the show.

    2. I suppose if your goal is "not to work." How many people have that goal? Don't most people want stability, to set a good example of work ethic for their children and to know that they have the ability to be self-reliant? They're going to be worse off when TLC packs up. Because they're obviously spending the money as quickly as its coming in. I don't admire that. They seem incredibly lazy. They have had a very scarce web site for nearly a year and have made no improvements or responded to customers online.

    6. Kody is a failure in my eyes. I highly doubt he has even the slightest clue as to what is going on with any of his children. He has paid dearly for exposing his family. He has no financial restraint. They have already spent more than they'll ever make. TLC is soon to move on. The novelty is long gone. He is a joke. He pretends he was exiled due to religous reasons, which is contrary to his reasons for moving. He claims to be sharing a normal plural family. Which if that's the norm, how sad! Neglected women & children. Surviving on welfare & bankruptcy. And he has yet to even be honest as to why they live like that. Only to say its for religous reasons. The real reason is bc Kody thinks this will make him a GOD. What a joke. An entire religon based on Joseph Smiths desire for multiple lovers, behind their husbands back
and behind his wifes back. There is but one god. How foolish to believe that all it takes to become a god is to marry three of more women. I odnt have a problem with consenting adults choosing to live in plural marriage. But it should be done freely. Not out of religous coersion.

Love, love your line...."Kody Brown will remain its' backside."
What a *perfect* visual !!! LOL

Papa Joe is nobody's fool and seems to be very capable of playing the game effectively. His approach is as an adult, not some silly "dude" who runs around like a little kid high on sugar.
Joe Darger's life choice and those of his harem would never be my choice or sit well with mainstream society, but I do respect that he and wives are not performing, cartoon caricatures of the Plyg lifestyle. They at least seem to understand how important decorum and candor play into gaining public respect.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out for the Dargers.

    1. Especially since the Kody couldn't be bothered to make an appearance. Doesn't it look like he was told to stay away so Joe Darger could be the center of attention? Passing out their books too, they could have passed out the Browns book too but they didn't.

    2. Problem is that the Browns's book shows five dysfunctional people who banded together with lots of baggage and conflicts, and after 20 years are still struggling to figure it out.

It isn't exactly a manifesto for happiness and emotional health.

      Delete
    3. I'm sure the Dargers would have been happy to pass out the Brown's book, but they could only pass out it out if the Browns asked them to and gave them enough free copies. I doubt the Browns did either one.

  5. It IS still important to keep polygamy illegal and a crime. Could you image if it became legal men outside flds and the likes living the lifestyle. The male and female birthrates are almost equal. There would be more lost boys and there couldn't be enough taxes to pay the welfare. They would still use welfare because they wouldn't be able to afford all the children. The problems the flds and other polygamist groups have created would increase into the mainstream. So many jealous and unhappy young wives having children every year. Even a small increase of people choosing the lifestyle could cause a lot of damage to local governments.
    It should never be decriminalized.

    1. I can remember racists making the same arguements about integration. There goes the neighborhood. Point is, there are a lot of countries where polygamy is not illegal and they aren't suffering the horrors you describe. Sure you can argue that women rights in those countries take a back seat to men, but that is the real issue, not unhappy young wives having children every year. That happens in monogamy. And don't get be started about jealousy. I think the lack of gun control in this country is more damaging, frankly.

      Delete
    2. Anon 5:44 - I respectfully disagree. The countries where polygamy is not illegal DO suffer...horrific poverty, plus the governments unable to begin to assist those who need it - and that would be the local AND the federal/country governments...these are present along with the devaluation of human life and human rights. Also, a lot of governments are unstable in the countries that allow for polygamy - not that polygamy makes a government unstable, but it certainly doesn't seem to help!

Regardless of how any of us feel about other issues, it simply isn't fair to say that one law should be abandoned so we can focus on creating new regulations for something completely unrelated. Perhaps we would be better served to uphold the laws already on the books and focus on educating people and lawmakers on the injustices and indignities women and children are facing every day, especially at the hands of thoses who 'love' them.

      Delete
    3. I don't feel my opinion can be linked to racism at all. I am not talking about "there goes the neighbourhood" I am talking about the young men not having young women to marry. About the welfare system overloaded with men not paying for the care of their many many children. Women being used to have too many children and live a sad life.
In monogamy it is the same for every race or at least it should be. In polygamy no matter the race the social and financial effect on society would be the same.
Of course gun control in your country is a big issue and I could comment on that, but this site is about sister wives and polygamy. I focused my comment on this issue.

    4. Interesting. Can you please list the countries that suffer horrific poverty caused by polygamy?

I'm not saying the US law making polygamy is illegal should be overturned only that the arguements I see against polygamy are so weak making me wonder if folks are reacting from facts or from their own prejudices.

      Delete
    5. I disagree. Keeping it illegal has caused so much secrecy. Screcy breeds abuse. Bad things happen in the shadows. Furthermore, there would be less welfare usage. These wouldn't be single women.

    7. Anon 7:05 - I never said that any country suffers horrific poverty CAUSED by polygamy, only that the countries where polygamy is not illegal do suffer - horrific poverty, unstable governments, etc. This was in answer to your response to yancykin's post (at the begining of this thread...I'm not going to repost the whole thing). Following the logic from post to post, there might be something lost along the way...

The point is, what does polygamy do TODAY to help, stablize or enhance a society? Does polygamy help alieviate suffering? Does it encourage a stronger economy? Does it protect the vulnerable? What exactly does it promote? In the year 2013 - not in the 1940's, not in the 1800's, not in biblical times, but today - why is polygamy good? I am unable to come up with a valid answer. Perhaps you are aware of something I'm not; if so, please share with me!

I am looking at the topic of polygamy with an open mind and without prejudice, however, the only real advantages it offers are for a few of the men involved...the women and children simply don't have the same opportunities, and in fact, don't reap the same benefit.

    10. Would you want to live in any of these countries?

As a matter of fact, I did live in Tripoli Libya when my dad was stationed at Wheelus Air Base. I saw the poverty under King Idris...even after the discovery of oil and the influx of oil dollars into the Libyan economy. But the people themselves followed their religion, and were proud and not beggers for foreign aid. I came to understand from our landlord (we lived offbase) that he did have 2 wives, but he knew men who only had one, and that was allowed in their religion.

And although Col. Gaddafi moved his people forward towards modernity, he was a worse leader than the one he replaced by force. But could I definitively say that polygamy was the root of the problem? No, I can not. It was the despot who gained political power and wielded it with a metal hand that was the problem.

I think what you see as a polygamy problem, perhaps can be better described as a political problem, a subject that is outside the scope of this forum.

Let's agree to disagree, and leave the political ramifications of foreign aid and poverty to forums better suited for that type of discussion.

    11. Where is the proof that a limited number practicing casues poverty? How many of those "poor" countries have social welfare programs and healthy economies? I've yet to see proof that plural marriage causes poverty. There is a difference between causation and correlation.

    12. First of all, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar are some of the richest nations on earth, and polygamy is way more common in those countries (especially Saudi) than in any other Middle Eastern or Northern African county.

Secondly, even if polygamy was decriminalized, I don't see many women in America running to join in. The reason these women are polygamists is because they have been taught since birth that this is the only way that God will truly accept them and allow them to entire the highest celestial kingdom. The only additions might be some mainstream LDS members who realize they can't really practice what Joseph Smith taught without being polygamists but haven't become polygamists because they don't want to break the law. But I doubt there would even be very many of those, so the impact on our country would be very minimal.

They still get to have as many baby mommas as their god or the ghost of Joseph Smith or whomever tells them to, while their kids are supported by YOUR tax dollars and mine. This case is about the state of polygamy in America. In America, polygamists, even ones who want to be considered "normal" like the Browns, maintain a routine of welfare fraud and rotating bankruptcies to keep their tisy boats afloat.

    14. Anon @ 4:23: The standard of living in Saudi and its sisters is solely due to its extreme luck of sitting on top of a lucrative natural resource, one that it's taken Western technology-- mostly from the "evil" U.S.--to harness. When the world finally perfects and accepts alternative forms of energy, the Saudi empire will crumble.

    15. When the world finally perfects and accepts alternative forms of energy, the Saudi empire will crumble.

When I was in jr high in Libya (at the US school on base) my 7th grade science teacher predicted that there was only 20 years worth of oil left and if alternatives were not developed the countries that depended on oil would be in trouble. That was 1967.

The Saudi empire was strong before oil, I have a feeling it will still be strong after oil, if that should happen.

Here's an informative article on OPEC and its history. As a member of OPEC, the Saudis policy has been that they will not leave a customer without oil, a stance that is not shared by all members of OPEC.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OPEC

Next time you complain about oil prices, don't forget to tip your hat to OPEC. And thank the Saudis for their oil policies to maintain a steady flow of oil to the world.

    16. Hi Cynical Jinx: I agree that the predictions of oil scarcity have often been exaggerated, but the world is becoming interested in alternative fuel sources for a plethora of reasons beyond perceived supply issues. Currently, the Saudi empire is largely a no-show in global contributions to science, medicine, technology, agriculture, arts, design, recreation, entertainment or athletics. Any country in which young girls are forced to remain to perish inside their burning school because they weren't wearing headscarves is going to have a hard time gaining worldwide credibility when their singular point of appeal loses its luster.

    17. I found this information concerning the fire you've mentioned.

"On March 25, the inquiry concluded that while the fire had been caused by a stray cigarette, the religious educational authorities responsible for the school had neglected the safety of the pupils.[3] The inquiry found that the clerics had ignored warnings that overcrowding of the school could cause a fatal stampede. It also found that there was a lack of fire extinguishers and alarms in the building. Accordingly, the cleric in charge of the school was fired, and his office was merged with the Ministry of Education."

The incident was from 2003. And frankly, in view of what happened just a few short weeks ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut where 20 children and 6 adults were shot and killed by an arsenal wielding madman who used the weapons purchased by his mother to not only kill the children, but his mother too. I don't believe the the US has gained any worldwide credibiity on the subject of gun control. At least it seemed the Saudi's took corrective actions so that the incident couldn't happen again. What has the US done for the parents whose babies died at that school?

Let's just agree to disagree on this. I'm sure there are other forums that are better suited for this type of discussion.

    18. I have waited to respond because I find all this very interesting and wanted to see what others have to say. I enjoyed reading about your life in Lybia CJ. Thank you for sharing. I do not think that polygamy is the sole reason for any of these countries being third world. As a matter of fact I agree with Anon 4:23 am that even if it were legal in the U.S. it wouldn't be a common or popular practice anyway. I just think that polygamy is a common factor of many countries with corrupt morals whether they be political, ethical or economical. I would also like to put my 2 cents in about Saudi Arabia. I do not think it would crumble but that is not saying much. It is a world where there is virtually no middle class. There are the very rich and there are the very poor. Most who are rich are directly related to the oil industry. Again just my 2 cents...

Anytime anyone makes a conserative opinion all of a sudden we are lumped in with racists and intolerance. How about intolerance for our views? I won't go too "out there" extreme with an example, but, would one be intolerant, for example, if they found it morally reprehensible for adult couples to "court" under age girls, with the hope of adding her as a "wife" ? (As Kody and Meri did.) Maybe, maybe not. What you call intolerance, I would rather say, at minimum, is a semantical difference of opinion.

The fact that they only live with sister wives because they're part of a religion that tells them the ONLY way to be as close to God as possible is for a family to include at least three wives. I personally tend to believe the Dargers when they said, we know the Browns and have seen them four times in X number of years but we aren't close...especially with Christine's already-established tendency to exaggerate/lie (self-described)

    3. "very very close friends for SEVERAL SEVERAL years now." Technically saying they are their bosom buddies who are in regular close contact for a MINIMUM of 9 years - the definition of "several" is 3 or more. BUT in reality, they're acquaintances through the fight for plyghood and only met abou 3-4 years ago according to a Darger wife. LOL

These Brown women are all embellishing drama queens except for Janelle who just eats and stuffs her emotions.

  18. A follow up to the last two posts on the previous thread with regard to the fact that Christine's bankruptcy was still ongoing at the time of Truly's birth and Robin's debut....*just a short two years ago.*

Just HOW DID Christine qualify for her mortgage??? How could her credit history of having NO employment record other than a few months as a census taker way back in time, her recent (at that point) welfare status and the unresolved credit card debt resulting in the bankruptcy be acceptable in any way to a lender??
Even with a huge down payment, would she still qualify for a mortgage loan?
Appealing to those who are in the know about how this could be???

I get that they probably plunked down huge amounts of TLC money to get those houses, and will callously just default when the show ends and not even look back, but even with a smaller mortgage, would she really qualify to get approved, given her history ?

    4. Another piece of mostly random information from your resident foreclosure atty....filing bankruptcy actually IMPROVES most peoples' credt (improve being relative, of course). Pre-bankruptcy, most people are not paying their bills, which results in multiple late payment reports being sent to the credit bureaus, each one taking a ding out of your score. Plus, once you've filed BK, you can't file again for 7 years, which actually makes you a better risk than you were BEFORE you filed, because the lender knows you can't screw them...for 7 years, at least.

As hard as this is to believe, it's actually not unusual at all for people to qualify for mortgages a couple years after BK...if they keep everything neat and clean after their BK, of course.

      Delete
    5. It's not just the bankruptcy - it's the almost complete lack of work history for Christine, considering that she and she alone is on the deed.

      Delete
    6. If she filed for bankruptcy, then her credit would improve right away. She would no longer have any debt. Her late payments would stop. Creditors know that after bankrupcy, you're not allowed to file for a certain number of years (depending upon the chapter you've filed under). Now Christine has no way out of dodging any of her debt until X amount of years have passed. So, what that means is, another one of the Sister Wives will be loading up on the debt and file within the next few years. They will rotate the filings. When someone files for BR protection, they arew bombarded with credit offers. Think about this...If I charge $20,000 on a credit card, I can file for BR as long as I qualify. Even if I don't qualify, I can simply stop making payments. Credit cards are unsecure loans. They can't take whatever I've charged on the card away from me. If I own nothing and have no job for them to try to garnish my wages, the CC company is out $20,000. Not really, you and I and everyone who pays for that CC ends up paying via interest. So, yes were paying for Robbins undies! LOL Anyways, However, if I have just filed for BR protection and I was approved and I decide to charge up $20,000 on my credit card, I am ON the hook for it. There is no longer a BR option for me. I can get a lean put on anything in my name. If you were the Cc company, who would you rather lend money to? The person who has the BR option? Or the person who has filed for BR and will be forced to pay back any amount lended to them? That's why credit is super easy to obtain after someone files for BR. You're a lower risk.

    7. I still wonder if the Browns received or are receiving financial support for the houses from fellow members in their religious community. Certainly, there are wealthy individuals who, out of their own self interest, want to prove this lifestyle/religion works. Could there be people who make donations to the Brown family to support their cause?

    8. Never having filed for bankruptcy, I'm not familiar with all of the ramifications, but I have heard that it can even impact job searches, with employers who do very thorough background checks. Not sure exactly why a bankruptcy would be a "ding" against someone for hiring purposes. But definitely, even if as stated above a person's credit rating improves immediately after bankruptcy, I wouldn't think a lender would find them a very viable credit risk for a big home loan. My guess is, like others here, they put down some big money, and have really, really crappy loan terms.

    9. My BK came up when I was going for my first position with my current employer, as well as my current landlord. Both did a credit check, and both questioned me on it. I responded honestly that I filed as a result of my divorce as my ex refused to pay his share of the bills from the marriage.

My guess is that it is an indicator of one's personal responsibility. If I didn't have an honest, valid explanation, it would have definitely made a major diff in my life - and not in a good way. I've been in my same pad 15+ years and with my same employer (and 3 promotions) for 13 years now.

  19. I'm not on twitter, but I looked at the wives' accounts online, and I'm curious about their "followers" numbers. Christine is, not surprisingly, the most checked-out. Doesn't tweet very often, and when I checked, her last tweet was to re-tweet Robyn's grammatically-challenged "there is new products..." message. But it's interesting to me, that the number of followers for each of them, seems to be in line with their "pecking order" in the family (as I perceive it). Meri, who to me is the biggest biotch, has the most followers, with around 40k. Next is her bff Robyn, followed by Janelle, and in a distant 4th, Christine. Seems to me, Janelle is by far the favorite of viewers, and she now has a well-written blog about her weight-less progress. I would think she'd have the most followers. Is it possible, they buy followers? That's apparently a very common practice amongst reality show cast members. Meri and Robyn have the most disposable cash, and I wouldn't put it past either one of them.

    1. Too funny. The people who are rumored buying followers had 100s of thousands of members, not 10s of thousands. And it's noticiable when those bought followers start appearing as the numbers start increasing at a phenomenal rate. Plus twitter has caught on and eliminates the bogus accounts. Check out real stars and you'll see followers in the MILLIONS!

  20. Re Robyn's tweet about starting yoga, I am just so relieved that she has been able to carve a little "me time" out of her crazy busy day, to work on her downward dog. I fear that she might not have time to get to her nail tech, tho. And what about her time on pinterest? Robyn, you are not super woman, slow down, girl!

Naw, just kidding. I'm sure it's for the show, and some yoga studio is getting a little free advertising. I have felt though, that Robyn lacks sensitivity to the other "wives" struggle with weight. Or maybe she gloats in it. "Time to get my post-baby body back!" Meanwhile, her "sister" across the street, Janelle, is in the midst of a true life-altering struggle to get physically healthy for the first time in her life.

    1. Hopefully it's the studio getting free ad'ing sorta situation. Otherwise, I'd wonder how she's affording yoga now too. I teach yoga, not in a city, and we charge $12/class. It's more expensive in cities.

Now in defense of yoga..lol...I've had many women come in post partum and lose their baby weight. Of course they didn't eat crap, didn't eat out all the time and worked really hard at their yoga (ie not just showing up once for the camera crew). You have to work hard at it. Janelle did yoga too, at home, and did the slow, easy kind while still overeating. I still don't see Janelle working too hard with her new trainer. Do they not have decent trainers in LV?? Really though so much of it is their eating habits. You can exercise like crazy but if you're eating the way they do, you're not going to lose weight.

      Delete
    2. The're not getting free advertising. They'll be comping Robyn's classes for the 'publicity'.

      Delete
    3. Not to split hairs, but free publicity is akin to free advertising. Their studio name would be publicized/advertised via the tlc show.

Wonder how long before we hear Kody is joining in on the yoga. Sorry for the visual!

      Delete
    4. If I was a participant in Robyn's yoga class, I would NOT, at any time, want a camera crew there. And I think that would go for the instructor as well (your thoughts, Yogagirl?). I wouldn't even want Kody there because it's not a place for calling attention to oneself. Kody just doesn't strike me as a yoga person at all, at all.

While most yoga classes are held in yoga-exclusive facilities (at least in my area) the fitness club I teach at is known for its yoga classes and instructors, we have some really well-known ones on our staff and they take it very seriously. Our club also has VERY strict rules regarding disruptions during yoga classes, because of course a huge part of the practice is the calm and peace part.

Amen to what YG said about eating habits being key to weight loss. Same thing with me - if it wasn't true, I'd be 110 pounds all the time because I exercise constantly!

I'm sure there are excellent trainers in LV, however how many of them really want to be on the show or even have anything to do with the Browns? that's the question.

also Robyn hasn't mentioned the name of the yoga studio so I wouldn't consider it "advertising" just for her to make a generic comment.

I just know - again - that if I was going to a yoga studio that permitted a reality TV show to be filmed during a class - I would find another yoga studio ASAP. I'm sure there are scads in Vegas.
If the cameras DO show up, I bet that it will be a (surprise!) one on one class with just Robyn and (maybe) Kody.

    5. Oh and to add to the post i just finished - our club does offer a lot of yoga classes, but the members pay a lot to be there - $140 a month is our current one club monthly membership fee. However the club is top-notch, and if you're someone who loves taking Yoga classes (several times a week, like many of our members) then compared to a yoga-only studio, it's a bargain.

    6. BTW YG, did you read Janelle's latest blog post?
      http://blogs.discovery.com/sister-wives/2013/01/weight-isnt-everything.html

she says she's doing "everything right" and the scale isn't moving. OH except she says "I am not eating perfectly, but I am within my nutritional guidelines 95 percent of the time." AHA. I'm guessing that she is basing that statement on recall and she isn't journaling/weighing/measuring her food. I hate to say this but that's what makes it happen - portion control and keeping track. I've lost 12 pounds since 4 January and the ONLY way I can do it is to not only be mindful of the type of food I'm eating, but to measure portions and keep track using a food journal (I'm using myfitnesspal) and entering what I eat within a few minutes before or after eating.

I also have to say this - and I know it's going to sound incredibly snarky of me - but reading her weight loss blog, she's not saying anything that I haven't already read countless times from other people on their own blogs, or weight loss forums etc. A lot of what she says is almost word for word from what "just ordinary people" have stated. Which is not bad, if she's inspiring others to stay focused...I just don't think she IS. Otherwise, we would have seen a MAJOR loss by now. I'm not dissing Janelle, because God knows, I know how hard it is to lose weight and keep it off, but even in that pic from last week's home show, she doesn't look all that much smaller to me - just dressed better and with her hair/makeup very nicely done, and that CAN make a person look thinner.

      Delete
    7. OH and one more thing YG - the club that Janelle's trainer works at does have two yoga/pilates classes on the schedule (although the club seems mostly focused on Crossfit which is HUGE right now)- Wednesday night at 7 and Saturday morning at 8. Perhaps they have a family membership there and those are the classes that Robyn "signed up for" - I note that 30 Jan (when she tweeted that) was a Wednesday.

    8. yeah, i'm still waiting to see NOTICEABLE significant weight loss with her. there's no way she's doing everything right (for months now) and still looks the same to me. Heavy people like her lose 40-50 lbs. relatively quickly if they're seriously "doing everything right." I think she's still very much an emotional eater and will remain one as long as she's in that emotional train wreck "marriage" of hers. jmo

    10. I see a major change in Janelle over this year - she looks great! And I think in the end she'll be happy she is losing inches slower and gaining strength steadily. It will be much more likely to be a change she maintains if she doesn't focus so much on the scale and more on building muscle mass and slowly resetting her body weight. Based on the replies to her blogs, a lot of people do seem inspired by them. Good for them and good for her! Go Janelle!

    11. If it is being filmed, I definitely would take my business elsewhere, even if tlc offered to pay for everyone in the class. 12. That does seem a little strange that Janelle's scale isn't moving (weight not coming off). Unless she's gaining muscle weight. Many people do "plateau" at some point when losing weight. But those first pounds should be coming off, with daily diet and exercise. I'm guessing it's her food consumption. I was really surprised, for ladies who have prepared meals for so many years, for so many children, how little they knew about preparing basic, healthy meals.

    13. btw, Meri also tweeted that she took a yoga class.

    14. I love Janelle but I think she may need a little help from the surgeon to lose some weight. The kind of weight problem she has will not go so easily with just diet and exercise. She will need help with the loose skin. I would love to see her get the attention she deserves. It pains me to see how uncomfortable she seems to be.

    15. No one gains that much muscle...and muscle takes up less room than fat.

I'm sure Janelle has muscle - but it's still covered with a very thick layer of fat.

As has been said and from my own personal experience - I weighed 265 at my heaviest - IF she was doing everything "right" she would have dropped 30-40 pounds by now. Janelle I'm guessing is making SOME better food choices (she still blogged about eating garlic bread, but with a chicken salad) but portion control is clearly lacking. She can't just say "oh I'm eating chicken breast aren't I healthy?" She also has to measure out how much she is eating. Either with a scale or using the palm/fist method. Not all PTs are into the nutrition aspect but at the very LEAST Sean should be encouraging Janelle to keep a food journal!
If she cut out bread -I bet she would drop 20-25 lbs in month.

I know I'm late to this party, but does she mention doing any walking? Even walking a mile a day helps to drop pounds. When I use to walk a mile a day, I lost about 25 pounds in about 6 months without changing my diet.

    18. Well she has mentioned going walking-hiking with Kody.

But I'm going to guess that Janelle is accustomed to eating a LOT more crap (PB Fritos anyone?) than you are CJ...

When I was 265, walking was the first form of exercise I did - I wasn't dieting at the time (this was when I was 27 years old or so). I was doing a lot of walking - during lunch at work and after work - but making up any calories burnt by eating more. Not an uncommon occurrence at all, at all.

She needs to absolutely keep a food journal and taking some classes in healthy cooking couldn't help either. For all of them - I bet they don't really know any tasty, creative ways to prepare vegetables. I did see salad greens on one show (the last one with Logan) but nothing on them. You want to get your kids eating right, you have to make the food appealing!

    19. I bave to jump in about the weight loss. Sometimes you can eat perfectly, journal and exercise and get stuck. I am speaking from experience. I am post menopause and trying to lose weight is almost impossible. There are those of us out there struggling with this, do not be so hard on Janelle.

    20. omg Janelle just needs to tell Meri off really good a couple of times and she will overcome her weight problems. Escaping the anger through food is not the answer. Meri doesn't keep sweet, why should Janelle?

    21. I don't think people are being hard on Janelle. Just stating facts. She's the one who's been all about exercise, eating healthy, and even wanting to own and run a gym for over a year now. If you're going to keep putting yourself out there publicly about all that - you'd better be walking the talk. that's all.

why is she SUCH an anomaly w/her age and weight to be such a RARE occurrence to be doing EVERYTHING RIGHT but still the scale doesn't move much - if at all?? Nope - not buying it.

    22. My husband and I had high cholesterol and had to go on a cholesterol-lowering diet. We did that by cutting out saturated fat in our diet and eating more fruits and vegetables. Both of us have lost quite a bit of weight just by making that one (admittedly significant) change.

I'm sure that if Janelle cut out fat or bread or sugar the weight would melt off. As someone who loves ice cream, cake, cookies, donuts, and other foods full of fat I can tell you that initially the change is a bit of a shock but it feels more normal after a few weeks.

Whether she makes a significant dietary change or not, I think keeping a food journal is a great idea because then she'd know just how much she was eating.

I agree, I'm sure they did have to put down quite sizable down payments for those 4 homes, but each of the wives 'owns' their own home, with Kody only sharing ownership of Meri's house since she's the only 'legal' wife. If Meri & Kody divorced, the assets in their 2 person marriage would be the only things Meri would be entitled to split with Kody. She has no legal right to any of the other 3 houses - they're individually owned by the other 3 women.

  24. It seems like often the Dargers wear clothes that they couldn't wear with the fundamentalist style of garments(down to wrists and ankles), or even the style of garments mainstream Mormons wear. Does anyone have any insight in this? I have gotten the impression they are practicing members of the AUB, but maybe I am wrong, and they don't wear the garments at all.

    1. I have a feeling that their dress style is entirely contingent on what and how Papa Joe Darger wants "his women* to dress and wear.

That bit in their TV Special about their group workout routine was very telling. Watching that "boot camp" scenario with Big Joe as the drill sergeant was creepy. Staying fit and healthy is a very good thing, but seeing adult women having to compete with each other under the stern, judging eye of their task master/husband was not so good.
You wonder if any of them have the option of saying "no" to Joe about anything.

I am sure that the Dargers have their own version of Plyg conflicts. At least *the women* probably do.

    2. The Dargers are Independent polygamists, not AUB. Independents don't wear the special undies like the Browns, so their choice of clothing is not limited. And I agree, those women are under tight control. Heaven help anyone who puts on too much weight. That guy's a control freak. Remember in their book that one of them suffered from an eating disorder because she was so desperate about being compared to the other women? Wouldn't surprise me if that was still the case

    6. Well there's definitely astory they are not telling a there. They at least come from AUB roots. I'm guessing that is how they know the browns. Valerie married an AUB big wig. I wonder if they were exiled somewhat. They have talked multiple times about how marrying two women in the same day was controversial. Or maybe taking Valerie in from her powerful AUB husband caused problems. Whatever it is, there's a story they aren't telling. Kind 'd like how their book said Valerie's husbands name was "Donald" I think?

      Delete
    7. You are right that Valerie leaving AUB to become an independent would have caused a stir. One of the worst criticisms that AUB level at their own members, is accusing them of becoming "independents." It means that they are not willing to take directions from anyone - in particular their own leadership - a serious sign of "unworthiness." All of the polygamous sects believe that they are the one and only true group, and the only ones with authority from God to live polygamy, so they consider everyone else renegades. Val was "married" to Dennis Matthews ("Donald" in their book). At one time Dennis and his women (about 5, I think) were the flavor of the month and considered to be great examples of polygamy. Dennis is still AUB, but after the Virginia Hill scandal and the missing millions in which Dennis played a major part ended up in court, most of the women left him. I think he may have only one now. He lives way out in Mayfield, Utah. I heard from someone who used to be an independent, that Joe grew up in a polygamist compound where his mother was Queen Bee, and it was a pretty bad situation for the other women. Although Kody and his tribe are still AUB, I do wonder if they will eventually make a break and become independents. They are already pretty much doing their own thing.

    8. Yes, for all intents and purposes - Browns are Independents now once they left their AUB community. Interesting how Aspyn wants to be plyg yet has no interest in returning to her AUB community in order to do so.

I also find it interesting that out of 17 (??) kids that Joe Darger's from, he's the ONLY kid that practices polygamy and that's as an Independent - which i think fits his VERY controlling personality he exhibits. He just bugs me. His kids/stepkids could fill us in on a lot if they were only free to do so. :)

Marvin Jessop who lives in Pinesdale, Montana is next in line, followed by his brother Morris who also lives there. But it's possible to pass over men if they are not "worthy", or too sick to serve, so other members of the council may be considered. That includes Christine's uncle Sam Allred (Rulon's son), and her uncle Ron Allred, as well as Lyn Thompson, and Harry Bonnell. I think I have all the relationships straight, but it's very confusing when everyone is so inter-related! I think that even the men without Allred as a surname are related to Christine in some way.

    12. OK, lost my post a couple of times, so trying again.

From what I hear, Lamoine Jensen has AUB in an "end of the world" tizzy. Unlike Warren Jeffs he's too canny to say exactly when. Evidently anyone who isn't part of a United Order is suppose to "gather" with the new AUB community on the hills above Mount Pleasant Utah. Anyone who doesn't will be destroyed when everything falls apart (oops Kody!) The AUB folks in Mount Pleasant are supposed to plough fields and plant crops to survive. Not sure how jew-le-ry rip offs, MLMs, wet bars, and "celebrity" living in Vegas, is going to help with this new survivalist future!

    13. Hmm my last post makes it sound as if they are to gather on the hills waiting to be taken up. Not what I meant. Their new community is on the hillsides/foothills just above Mt. Pleasant.

pologamy bkks - and must say they are certainly educational,
    informative and actually very depressing.

The following joke making the internet rounds this week:

Cowboy: "I'd like three packages of condoms please?"
Cashier: "Would you like a paper sack with that sir?"
Cowboy: "Nah, she's purty enough as it is"
Hope you got a chuckle out of it!

  26. The Dargers are creepy for sure and I also found the torture chamber in the garage a LOT freaky. Do the women have a choice? NO! They have to be in constant competition in that environment or loose the little bit of affection from their husband. I saw some of them look down and avoid or tried to avoid making a face that would tell all. The twins vs. the cousin. It is sick a man married twins and their hot cousin? Is that a porno or what? I think Joe believes he has hit the lottery. None of these people will ever get that special feeling of being in love. Because that surely is not being in love.
On a lighter note: Let us guess what the Kodes does for Valentines Days. Has to be 4 days in a row so they all get their special moment. By day 4 he must be exhausted though.
Day 1: Meri: Look Luuuvveeerrr growllll I got you these new hearts all over undershorts and you need to wear them every day just to freak out my sister wives. Oh, daisys again? I mean great! They would look lovely on my new wet bar (or down the garbage disposal, on Janelles cement pad or on the grave of my dearly departed pee pup). Ok good enough now do your dirty hair dance for me! Swing it baby swing it!
Day 2: Janelle: Oh hey there buddy. I thought we could go for a walk in the park and hold hands verses spending rea l money and become more fiscally positive. Or maybe go out and look at the sunset where my cement pad would have been but, I did not need it as much as that pastry wet bar Meri has. I was over there this morning and she had some cheap stringy daisies on it! Can you believe that Kody? Daisies? Everyone knows that is Christines favorite flower. Oh, you have something for me? A five pound box of chocolates? But Kody you know I am on a diet! Its ok sweet stuff I will have something to blog later. What are you doing in those horrid heart shorts? Did I sign a check for someone to buy those? Hideous and unnecessary. Now do your dirty hair dance for me my hot surfer dude.
Day 3: Christine: Yes Truly it is YOUR daddy not just that other baby boy kids daddy. Dont cry honey he is NOT a stranger. Ohhhhh Kody! I feel so special you got me a present!!! Is it the ring I picked out for you to buy me, had the clerk hold it aside until I made the installment payments, then gift wrapped myself? No? What do you mean NO mister! You got me a cheap ass watch set? Who has time to exchange out bands and shit while I am here raising 6 kids by myself, studying, on line chatting with hot guys I mean doing business on line? Oh here Kody I got you something too. Its the water bill could you write a check and help me out a little? I have custard in the bedroom to body paint. What are those things you have on? Here give em to me, I will wash em and get em back to you after I put starch in them. Now do your dirty hair dance for me yeah you go baby shake it shake it... oh shit! Its falling out!
Day 4: Robyn: Robin runs up leaps in the air and wraps her legs around Kodys potbelly covering his face with kisses. Come here girls daddies home!! They hang on his legs and he asks where Day un is? Oh here girls go unlock him and let him out daddies home. Taralyce! Girl come get these girls off Kody so we can have baby making time... I mean adult time. A gift for me? Oh what a pretty little ring and it looks like the one Christine has on lay away at the Wallymart. How sweet you got me one too! And 10 pounds of candy, a dozen roses, and a real Tie max watch? No way I always want a REAL Tie Max watch! Kody get those starched up bleached out shorts off and do the dirty hair dance for me sexy pool boy!

    2. Until any of these plyg men would be equally okay and understanding w/women doing what they do (or even have spent a few lonely, sad nights w/their beloved wife constantly sleeping w/someone else cause that's what god wants) they will forever be seen as arrogant sexist dinosaurs. Rightfully so.

Joe Darger always has this smug, arrogant peacock look on his face while talking and that first wife is always perpetually smiling adoringly at him. it's unsettling to keep watching.

The Dargers are creepy for sure. In fact, I've read so many plyg books and watched so many of Doris Hanson's shows and other plyg documentaries to know that it's ALL creepy. Thankfully, I wasn't born into it tho and having to convince myself it's all good. I pity anyone who was.

  27. On the store front... several months ago I messaged them and let them know I was a big fan and really wanted to purchase something but the shipping was just too high at 17.95. Several months later they finally changed to USPS which is 1/3 of the cost. I also left feedback when they asked what people thought about aprons and ornaments. I said that was a little grandmotherly for me how about tshirts or bracelets in the 20 to 25 dollar range? Never once did they respond in a message back. I have gone and bought things on line and always when I ask an on line store a question they respond... because they want to make a sale.
Recently I had some fun money put aside to purchase something/anything as I love to receive packages in the mail. I have been meaning to buy the 60 dollar ring set but then instead on amazon found a cute sterling claddagh ring with a pink heart and crystal in the crown in my size... for $14.95. So as big as a fan as I am and I really really am a fan of the sister wives show, I am now sporting a claddagh ring in real sterling silver for 18. including postage! Not much for aprons...I think I have one somewhere. The ornament I would have bought just to have something from them. So now I guess I will be content with the book I purchased before it even came out as my prized souvenir.
I would love to meet them, would purchase a ticket to see them speak, go to a weekend gettaway at the mcmansion tour. I think the kids would make a bundle at a lemon aid stand where people could purchase green kool aide type drink.
I did not read any mean comments on their facebook page but was really put off by their own comment. NOT a way to make a sale. Swallow any insults and choose to change your business practices or not but, dont air out your stress on your stores facebook page. Lots of kind people leaving them <3 on their page but no positive feedback from them or thanks. I did not comment.... I still want to buy something when they carry something cute and fun. Aprons signify working in the kitchen and keeping the women folk waiting on the men. I thought they would have a apron for Kody to wear really for a cookout type theme. Grandpa Kody sparking up the Bar Bee for his 99 grandchildren ... now that would be fun! Love the sister wives because of their individuality, honesty, humanness, funny sweet smiles and quirky ways. Do support their lifestyle? No but, I do not judge them for it. Really all fun aside as I listed above. I really am a fan and would likem to see them address their fan base a little more. I will meet them someday. Probably in Vegas at a convention and when I do it will be a highlight for me. My favorite wife by the way is tied with Christine and Janelle, then Robyn and Meri. I think they all have cute personalities and that is why the show has been on as long as it has. :)

    1. When they first opened their store I sent them a polite message via their "contact us" form with some suggestions - things like including measurements and images of the backs of the pieces, as well as to reduce duplication in their listings - and making note of some typos and other statements that didn't make sense for this business (I think they were lifted from Janelle's canned food business). I didn't hear back from them and nothing has changed.

I did see the snarky comments on their store FB page. I've posted there, too, and I guess some people might see my posts as too negative. Certainly they're not fawning all over them, but I try not to launch personal attacks and to restrict my comments there to the store and their products. Sometimes I am a little too snarky but I really do try to rein it in.

  28. all of the Brown assets have been co-mingled. The bankruptcy filings had co-debtor signatures. They rushed into these houses plunking down chunks of cash. Their paper trail of welfare, food stamps and fractured relationships was not solved with these overpriced houses. I wish they would have reflected on their past struggles and i hope they provided for the kids future. I do believe Meri could take what she wanted of the assets if things fall apart. They have publicly and on film laid bare their family financial structure and it is documented in the BK s.

  29. So many interesting conversations on this thread!

First of all, gas prices in the South where I live range $3.18 to $3.38.

Dargars - when I found this blog about 2 mths. ago, I liked the Dargars very much! I read their book, and thought it was much more interesting than the Browns. I believe the Dargars do practice polygamy for religious reasons, their families have done so since the time of Joseph Smith. 4 or 5 of their grandfathers went to jail in the 1950's.

I'm not weirded out by the cousin/twins thing. All the Dargars grew up together, and everything I've read about polygamy suggests there's a very poor pool of genes to choose from - at least none of the women are related to Joe, the husband!!

I've visited their facebook page a lot; they seem to be a family full of love. I don't think they have a lot hidden. Joe has always supported his kids, with the help of the mothers. No hidden welfare fraud there, and I think the book said they have always also had health insurance (at least for the kids).

Val made a lousy first marriage, as the 5th fife of someone more than twoce her age. She was 18 (I believe) at the time. She "had a testimony" that this was who she should marry. She did use welfare of some sorts when her husband didn't provide for her an their 5 children.

Since she "married" Joe Dargar, it seems he (and mostly with 2 wives always working) has provided for her children, and the 4 more she has had with him. The children all seem beautiful, happy, and loved. One of the oldest sons has a band which makes money, and a daughter sings and sells her music. They call themselves Independant Fundamentalist Mormans, but one of their daughters (I think Val's by first husband) did marry someone more conservative from Centenial City, Arizona. I think that is an AUB sect. They dress conservatively, but value education, have good schools, and reportedly want their children to go to college. The leaders in this sect do not choose who the members marry; I think I even read the girls are the ones who are supposed to say who they want to marry.

The Dargars have 13 living daughters and 10 sons among them. The youngest is 2 1/2 and I used to love to see pictures of the kids on their facebook page. Recently, there is an adorable video of the littlest one singing a counting song - sooo cute!

So my initial attitude of 'live and let live' was very reinforced by everything I saw of the Dargars. Then, through this blog, I started reading more of the lifesyle, the fundamentalist mormon beliefs, and the stories of women and men who have left the lifesyle. As a result of my reading, and watching you tube videos recommended on SWB, my opinion has totally changed.

I don't think it is in the best interests of women, children, or our country, to decriminalize polygamy. I believe the Dargars are a fine family, but I don't think they represent the majority of FM's. I could be wrong, but more FM's would have to 'come out' for me to know that.

The terrible, but real, stories told in Escape, Prophet's Prey, Under the Banner of Heaven, and the newsclips about the lost boys, all lead me to believe polygamy is bad for boys, as well as girls. I also question whether there are many polygamist families like the Dargars, who take providing for their family as so important. The term "bleeding the beast" was reportedly coined by fundamentalist mormon leaders for a reason, and I am not a beast who wants to be bled so some man can sleep with multip;e women! Nor so that some woman can have 15 kids, when she can only support 2!

So, I feel bad that I can't support the Dargars (in spirit) any more. And I certainly was never happy to find out my taxes have supported the Browns! I support and am glad I signed the petition to keep polygamy as a criminal offense at change.org.

    1. What the Dargers hide is their religion's racism. No African American could ever be a "priesthood holder" or be considered as a spouse. And since the Dargers hold to the "old time religion" and follow all the teachings of the early "prophets," then that must include Brigham Young's teachings that for a white person to marry anyone of African descent was worthy of "death on the spot." That makes all their Martin Luther King Jnr. quotes about civil liberties etc. demonstrative of profound hypocrisy.

      Delete
    2. Hi Sinister Drives: I am unsure who coined the actual term "bleeding the beast," but the book Under the Banner of Heaven seems to assert that the concept of Mormons funding their operations via defrauding non-Mormons goes back to Joseph Smith and Brigham Young and their associated money-laundering and money-counterfeiting schemes.

    5. Thank you ExPlyg, your comments always provide so much inside information about the 'wrongness' of the FM lifestyle. I always forget about the prejudice against African Americans, it's not something highlighted in the books I've read. I wish you would do a post telling us more of your experiences as a plyg. (Maybe you already have and I just missed it)

Hey Magic Undies - I'm reading Under the Banner of Heaven now. Fascinating, I can hardly put it down!

Anonynous 10:08 I'm getting really confused because I'm reading a lot. Thanks for the correction. Marrying an offshoot of the FLDS is even worse than an AUB imo. That poor daughter was only 18 or 19 when she did so! She and her husband plan to be plygs.

Another daughter also is married, and plans to practice "plural marriage" She recently had the 1st grandchild. She was also only 18 or 19 when married.

When I watched the tiny 2 1/2 year old proudly singing her numbers on their facebook page, I smiled...and then felt a chill. When will that precious child begin to lose her pride and feeling of specialness? When will she realize she is not worthy to have her own man? Her mother, "other mothers", and now two 'grown up' sisters are modeling a bad choice of lifesyle, and this is what she will see growing up. Poor, poor baby!

Despite constantly talking about the choices their daughters have, it is sad to see that both oldest daughters chose to marry so young, and both to husbands planning to practice polygamy. I think they are "trapped" before they are even fully grown!

Also read that an older son, Caleb, has reportedly "disappointed" father Joe, by joining the mainstream LDS church. Two other oldest sons now live on their own. So, it seems one way or the other, the kids leave home at a very young age. Sad.

I wonder if there are others like me who started out thinking "live and let live" to polygamous relationships, and through reading and learning, (about people I actually LIke), have become actively against it. I feel so for the children who know nothing else, and therefore, imo, have no choice! Boys are kind of supposed to leave, girls to marry young...

Thank you CJ and MS for all the links you provide to websites and previous SWB postings. I have, and am, learning so much from your hard work! You should be getting paid, and we should be getting college credit for all this information!! LOL : )

    6. Let me introduce myself: I am not able to change the Anonymous thing but I have been a follower of this blog for about a year now. I was born in Spain but I live in The Netherlands. I only saw a couple of episodes of Sister Wives in the Dutch TLC at the begginning of the first season but I have followed this blog ever since.

This introduction is only to say that I agree with "Sinister Drives" in the above. I also thought "live and let live" at the beginning, but now I think that this is too dangerous.

Legally changing "the holy institution of matrimony" will never happen as its legal consequences are too complicated.

On the other hand, I do not like people ridiculizing the Browns too much as I thingk that they are people like us and I believe that they are "bona fide", even if they are not very bright.

  30. On page 172 in their boring book, Meri says,"Some of my furniture has definately outlived theirs!" She is a so sad. I would hope her stuff would outlast her husbands girlfriends stuff. They all have three-five more children. Meri seems very competitive about how "nice" her house looks. Now, that's just being snooty to the other women. If Meri is going to make rude comments about how long their furniture lasts then its fair game for them to point out why her furniture has not lasted.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes @ OutofTheShadows: Meri has stopped maturing at some point usually brought on by a trauma. She and Kody were totally in love she thought and then he married someone else which ended the life she really loved of being his one and only 24/7. Although she thought she was into this polygamy thing it is much different I imagine living it. Whether she believes she was traumatized or not the proof is in her actions. Clearly she stopped maturing as a young adult woman. Robin and Christine both seem less mature then women in their 30s with children should be also. Christine because she chooses to remain sheltered and Robin because she believes she has been abused by her ex husband. I see the abuse probably from child hood however having the evidence of making up alter personalities. For example she is she-rah to get through tough times, channels her grandma when she has bad grammar etc... that did not just start. That was probably embedded early on when a child is beaten, seeing horrible traumatic things they can not understand or, sexual abuse. Being that she plays the victim card and poor me card always I would go even further to say she saw abuse and tuned it out. Robin is the one who likely needs some therapy to get past using invisible friends to cope. However, if she had counseling then she might jump ship although she has zero experience with coping and living skills. Think of the young woman saying, "well I had to take my clothes off and strip I had kids to feed" this is what I see in her. In fact she had a great figure at first and you dont have to be good looking to make it as a stripper (possible previous employer)? Actually who was her previous employer? I believe she has worked very little her life. Janelle has been out in the world, lived on her own and held jobs. I believe she remains for the sake of the children. She may not even want a conventional full time husband. After all this is the woman who tried to live in a teepee.

  37. Again I am a Sister Wives fan truely. I love the ladies and pray them all the best. It is a entertaining program and I do believe editing to the hilt for entertainment purposes. If the ladies is happy living with a 1/4 husband then that is their business. I do not feel it is any of my business about their homes. A fan on their facebook closet page said something to the fact of hey, they are enjoying themselves. Yes they are living high right now for sure. Do not be surprised if financially they come out ok even if the show ends. Which it will at some point. Do not under value the fact that Janelle is a accountant, college grad and pretty darn frugal. When the show ends there still could be occasional specials, they will still be able to have paid for engagements, the jewellry business is a very small part of their income, they probably have some financial plans being played out in the works and it is not made public. I believe that for tax purposes they need to sink money into mortgages and interest payments. Otherwise for the first time in their lives they would have owed taxes and I am positive none of them has ever made enough to owe and has been on the huge end of the earned income credits. So, having brought their combined income from possibly $60 k a year to 500k a year they found quickly they needed some tax breaks. The homes are tax breaks and investments. I believe Ms Janelle will see to it that the funds are rolled into the homes so that when the money ends they will be positive on their loans. If then they want to sale the housing market should have increased and they could make a profit and return back to the Utah homestead. I believe that it will also be the original three wives as again Robyn is likely playing along for publicity and fame as well as a meal ticket. I do not think she will ride out the wave. I believe she will raise her kids up where she can manage and be out the door looking for a man with more ability to pay her way at that time. Or branch out with a book, "Escape from the Terrible 3 Sister Wives Who Abused Me!" Look at the example of the "Girls Next Door" former gf's of Hugh Hef... they have their own shows and income generated from the publicity from their original reality show. Just my thoughts. Again, please as far as bashing them? I love the ladies and really want them to be happy. Oh, the postage has gone down to general costs of USPS which is a third of the former costs. I still want to buy something when they offer up something cute and a souvenir type item that I will cherish.

    4. i think she's just a bookkeeper and just alluding to herself as an accountant. bets are she's def not a CPA. she's never even claimed that one, has she?

    5. Janelle has described her job as that of a bookkeeper/accountant (which could be simply working in a accounts payable/receivable office). As far as I know she's never described herself as a CPA. She does not hold a CPA license in Utah or Nevada. Maybe she took accounting classes in college.

      As for shipping costs?
Mrs. Precious Wife, the Browns may have switched shipping their products from UPS to USPS and in doing so, yes, the shipping charges did go down, BUT USPS rates just went up. We'll have to wait and see if the Browns will pass on those increased costs to their customers.

      Delete
    6. But they are not happy. They all say they would not choose this lifestyle if it weren't for religous reasons. So they are coerced. They're told that in order to be accepted into the Celestial Kingdom, which is the highest level of three heavens, the happiest of them, they MUST engage in "the calling." Also known as "the higher calling" polygyny. The husband needs three or more wives and the women need to be married in such a family. They're also told that this is the only way to get as close to God as possible. If I believed in that, Id also live in plural marriage. Like the Brown women, I would have jealousy issues. Id feel neglected, like I never saw my husband. Because when you have half of a dozen children, having their dad around two days a week is going to leave you laregly to fend for yourself. These women suffer and they know it. The only do it because they're man made religion tells them they must sacrafice their feelings to please GOD. I am all for freedom of religion but when the man made beliefs hurt women, that's where I draw the proverbial line. If a woman chooses to have sister wives or to have more than one husband because she wants to, that's her business. But if she is being manipulated into it, because she's told its what GOD wants her to do, that's an issue we should all be very concerned about.

DJ, You literally took the words right out of my keyboard. No one knows exactly what Janelle's job was in Lehi county, however from the reports of her income, it is doubtful that it was CPA level or even basic accounting.
The fact that "she" is/was the only wife to actually say "finite resources" on a few episodes seems to have convinced diehard fans that she is the shrewd money mind of Kodyworld.
Where the CPA/accountant label sprang from is anybody's guess ??
If that was even remotely true, she would not only be out in a job by now using her "skills" she would also be leading the Kodyworld charge for smart business practices and prudent money management.

As it is, she stays in the background, agreeing with every stupid move they make...and "profiting" from all their scams. Perhaps that is her money skill ??!!

  41. Out of the shadows: They switched from Fedex which was going to charge 17.95 to deliver a ring that weighs like an ounce to USPS which charges 5 something. Thank you amused... Poignant? Such words!

  42. Anonymous 2:59 On a previous SWB page someone commented that "channeling her grandmother" was Robyn's explanation to having posted some information that was not grammatically correct.

Out of the Shadows: I think the cost of shipping for MSWC has gone down by 1/3 BECAUSE they SWITCHED to UPS, not that UPS prices have gone down. That's my understanding.

I agree, Mrs. Precious Wife is a very interesting poster. Provides even more balance to this wonderful blog!

    1. Robyn never said she channeled her grandmother. That showed up on SWB, but it is not on twitter or or other places where Robyn comments

    3. I saw it on her Twitter. Robyn said that's her grandma Reva. And that she types like her when she is tired. Why not just say, I'm sorry. I need to use spell check and proofread. The excuses border on insane.

  43. There's something ironic about Cynical pointing out that Kody's exile was SELF IMPOSED... and the photo of the sunset. Kody riding off in the sunset, turning around shouting, "We're scared!!" and no one listens.

  44. Sorry, I have a friend who works for FedEx Corporate, and they don't charge that much unless they're shipping next day to a zone far away. fedEx Express Saver or Ground is close to USPS, especially if they have a business account.
My sister has an Etsy store and ships with FedEx 95 percent of the time (usually express saver or ground) and gets very good rates. She only charges her customers the actual FedEx price.

One big reason she prefers FedEx is the package tracking is far superior to USPS.

IMO the Browns were tacking on a margin to line their own pockets and they got busted BIG TIME.

  45. Page 125 of their book Janelle said she got a degree in accounting. One of her jobs I can find was Vice President at People Pantry a food storage company and on-line business (her own? which would mean they had other on line businesses). I am not sure but I believe she held a different (perhaps government) place, although she has not disclosed the name of the place she worked before moving to Las Vegas. Hope this clears up earlier posts. I am only going by what she wrote in her book and what I can find disclosed on line. I believe she got a degree as she states but, it does not state associate or BA. Either way I applaud her for going to college while living away from the family and supporting her children.

    1. EZ Pantry/People Pantry, like the software business and the gun business and of course Fundamental Fitness appears to be defunct. Their website URL www.ezpantry.com is up for grabs.

As the Browns have shown time and again, it's very simple to set up a business on paper.

Also about her degree in accounting - I find it interesting that she doesn't go into specifics...such as the type of degree, or what college (or whatever) she obtained it from. Most if not all people I know who have degrees (and even people I don't know - just check LinkedIn sometime) will state the type of degree, the learning institution where they earned it, and the year the degree was earned. Janelle has mentioned none of those facts. Just as an aside, while Utah has some very fine universities and colleges, the state is also a hotbed for telemarketing "online learning" scams. I'm just saying.

At any rate, for someone with an "accounting degree" she didn't exactly have a high level job. I don't remember the job title exactly - but I do remember the salary as being in the range of approx $660 a week, in 2011. Especially since she claimed to work long hours at her job - that's chump change for an accountant.

As far as the exalted person in charge of family finances - that's strictly by default. She's the only person remotely qualified for the position. Lazy ass entitled Kody? Nope? Meri, equally entitled queen bee? Nada. Christine who can't even remember to pay the water bill? Robyn who just tossed her bills on the counter for Janelle to take care of? Puhleeeeze.

I do my own finances. Paying bills and staying within a budget isn't rocket science. I have all of my regular bills set up to be automatically paid on specific dates thru my bank including my rent. I do my own taxes. And i have managed to save up for my retirement - I am on track to retire at 65 and will have a comfy nest egg.

Oh and I have just a high school diploma, no degree.

    2. Don't forget Pampered Chef!lol I think Robyn's going for a yoga video. She made me mad on that one. Everyone here has figured out she was pregnant during the summer, and may of had a miscarriage. Now she's saying she needs to lose the baby fat from Solomon. Makes no sense, she was much slimmer right after she had him, and nursing always slims mothers.
Why not just say what happened, or better yet, NOTHING. Lying is a second language for the grifters.

    3. IMO, if Janelle had a degree in accounting from a recognized university it would be public knowledge and she'd talk about it in interviews. She doesn't and that's strange. Of all the minute details we know about them, yet her educational background is unknown - I think there's something strange about that. And, if she had a legit degree she shouldn't have a problem getting a job, especially in LV.

  46. "EZ Pantry/People Pantry, like the software business and the gun business and of course Fundamental Fitness appears to be defunct."

Fascinating, isn't it, that they have "started' all these business through the years....yet last week were whining and begging for Closet customer patience and strokes for their "lack of experience" in starting a business. (along with having one toddler and having to do couch chats in between)

With all these failed efforts, wouldn't you think by now they would have identified their flaws and gotten it right ??
Oh, wait..being the Browns, surely they have an excuse handy as they always do...
*this is their first online "jewelry" business.*

It's more likely that their growing list of businesses that have gone nowhere are designed to be just that..failures.
Because they are *winners* for tax write-offs.. for start-up costs, operating costs which can be everything from PR, clothing, travel...you name it...even write off part of house expenses if home-based.
And when it fails, you can claim the losses for several tax cycles.

The Browns may come off tacky and less than bright, but they are definitely pros in the art of the scam.

  47. Robyn has not yet tweeted the name of the yoga studio. And IMO, yoga studios don't necessarily want or need that kind of publicity.
