Sister Wives Discussion Does money buy happiness? HOMES

When we met the Brown's - they were a seemingly happy family.... at least the kids were happy. There were only 3 wives.....

They all lived together as a family. Kids were a family.

Now, another wife, 4 more homes, endless trips, $$, fame, eating out, the kids eating on film days, and I must ask:

Has FAME and MONEY brought the Browns happiness? Is being in 4 separate homes any different that women divorced from a man but tied by the kids? Are they being wise with their money? Do you see them getting closer to their religion, or farther apart? Who has the fame bug bit the most; besides Kody? Are they saving for college? DOES money buy happiness? What do you think of them in 4 homes and planning to BUILD 4 homes?
What do you think?

  1. Hmm- after Kody, probably Robyn.

Either Aspyn or Mykelti (can never remember which is which) really seems to love Vegas. Most of the rest of the kids seem sad over leaving Utah.

  2. "Are they being wise with their money"?? Is that a rhetorical question?

    ReplyDelete
  3. They can't manage their money properly because of their devout beliefs in the "Law of Consecration." Anything they own (homes, cars, etc) is legally signed over to the Church. Seeking after "Worldly" possessions is seen as a sin. Satan uses worldy materials (silver, gold, etc) to ensnare people for his will. Everything is shared in the "United Order" so the work harder earn more money theory goes out the window. If you have extra money after you pay your bills you are expected to give it to the AUB leaders who then use it for the needy (supposedly). Kody openly loves his car. That is against his religion. He has filed a bunch of
Bankruptcies (look at the old post on it) or go to You Tube and look for "Sister Wives From Food Stamps to Fame.)

  4. He obviously picks and chooses his favorite things in his religion to follow. I just don't understand how ANYONE can pray and get a testimony of the Law of Consecration. These people willingly give everything they own to the Church and if they leave the Church on bad terms they lose it all.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Did they have to share their public assistance with the Church? Did Robyn take the lion's share of her lingerie up to the church? Christine, baby, 3 of those watchbands are going to the church.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Kody originally wanted to build 1 big house...wonder why he changed his mind? He's dense but maybe even he has realized that the wives are not so sisterly once #4 arrived.

  7. Vastminds...that comment above mine is absolutely hysterical!!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Vast minds: That is hysterical! Apparently Kody and his clan pick and choose what they share with their wonderful and loving leaders. That is what church leaders are, right? They couldn't possibly be tyrannical, crazy, born with too many screws loose people. The leaders probably want them to pray and ask forgiveness of the sins of not sharing their lingerie with them now that they know about it. They have young wives to take care of too you know.

  9. AUB leadership...if the collection plate depends on the business skills of Kody Brown...good luck. Ill bet on red, thank-you.

  10. Topic is money $$$$$$ right? How did they afford for one of the kids to play football? My daughter played a "less" expensive sport and me....having a job, unlike the Browns, had to scrape hundreds of dollars together. Where is all this cell phone money coming from? Half of the family members have them. How do they afford all this hair color? the make-up...hello!

    ReplyDelete
  11. If modest is hottest...then why do they spend so much money decorating themselves? The children could use some new clothes...can we contact their church for a donation?

    ReplyDelete
  12. ok...lets get to it...the REAL money issue...the Tax Man. I have hope that the more the public complains at least about that part....it might be the sword thru the apple for them. Remember the only "task force" that took down the mob was the IRS.....for tax evasion. These gentlemen may have "lunch partners" at the state level....but Uncle Sam's circle is tighter than that and when they find piles of money....it wont be celestrial

  13. Dont all these pyramid schemes usually involve paying money first...making money later. They must be made of money! I bet "someone" got a silver spoon in his mouth. lolololol

  14. In the KB-FU, yes, money does buy happiness. Who wants to hear that goofball making love energy with Robyn on the other side of the building code violating wall.

  15. Amused says...

Well, frankly, I haven't seen any clips of them in a church since the whole side show started.
    Perhaps I missed that?
We did see one or two clips of them in someone's living room holding a "service" this season....with Kodouche sermonizing about how bad Jeffs is/was....and then Christine took over holding up flash cards in her best Mr. Rogers-like voice..with the older kids looking like they wanted to be anywhere but there.... and most likely it was all done for the cameras anyway.
But beyond that, I really don't think they attend any church. They seem to just have made it up as they went along.
Which is probably why they have yet to go into any details on camera or in Q&A appearances about their religion.

As for their money management (vastminds, loved your comments)....
    let's be empathetic here...
Closets full of long-sleeved T-shirts, and form-fitting tank tops, w/now added *smock-type* tank tops necessary as girth has changed....
    In ALL colors and patterns....
For Meri, Christine, Robyn, Mykelti, Aspyn, Mariah, Madison and then Janelle's many striped blouses...
This must be seriously crunching the budget.
And don't forget the Claddah rings for all.

These people have *expenses* beyond just food and housing !!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. "and planning to BUILD 4 homes"

Oh you caught that too?? LOL...

Yeah all that talk about hating to be separated and what do they plan for those big empty lots? Four SEPARATE homes.

Oh sisters I am WITH you. Please stop pretending you like sharing a husband!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I won't watch anymore. There are plenty of clips around, and this site. We have to make their ratings go away for them to go away. If the show goes, so does the scamming people out of their money with the pyramid scheme, and the workout connection, and the speaking engagements, and the easy access to tons of innocents for their on-line product parties.

I did not watch a couple of shows, barely paid attention a couple of other times, and didn't miss anything with all the alternate sources of video and the wonderful wrap-ups on this blog. Let's vow to not give them the rating points.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think money DID NOT buy happiness. Their greed of a show=Robyn. Robyn will be the end of Meri- you watch! Robyn knows the other two will grin and bear it.... not Meri.

If and that's a big IF I were going to live like this, I would want to be under one roof. Even the million dollar one they wrote about awhile ago, now that was GREAT!

Money IS the root of all AUB evil

    ReplyDelete
  19. Did money buy them happiness?
    Robyn/YES!
    Kody/YES!

Meri, Christine, Janelle, and 16 children, NO!

  20. No, because according to Yahoo the moved to a sad city. This doesn't state anything new to what has been discussed here.

  21. Seems like it brought TLC happiness. Because this organization/family is still on the hussle....they cant be finacially ahead as much as they want us to think. TLC is paying minimum wage for these performers. Even if it all ends tomorrow...TLC has gotton at least a break even return on the investment. lets examine...After the big paycheck got too big for her panties(you know, the coupon blogger)....TLC needed to start their own business all over again. Because this family has so many "rules"...it left out alot of expenses that TLC didnt have to pay. They are getting a soap opera for half the price. However, the coupon lady taught them a lesson....they handed Kody a check...and the ladies a debit card with a small amount(you know, to spend $100 total to get the baby feet frame bullshit for Robyn). TLC wont stay for too long....they know business better than the knuckleheads running these religions.

  22. Vastminds: if you haven't seen this article, it is very poignant on what the coupon blogger did to reality tv.

  23. Is anyone certain that KB-FU actually still belong to their church? I am not fully convinced that they are still members - otherwise, why would they not join a church in Las Vegas (unless there are no AUB churches there).

And for all of you who were Big Love fans - does anybody see a similiarity in Ko-douche giving sermons and when Bill started his own congregation? Remember originally it was just his family that attended that too.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sometimes I look at their Twitter posts, and it looks like Meri and Robyn are quite the BFFs. I haven't really seen any twittering by Janelle or Christine with each other or with Robyn and Meri. Maybe they don't direct their tweets at each other b/c they live near each other and talk to each other daily (not!)

Anywho, I don't think they are happy, but I do think they know they have to do some pretending to keep their show. I wouldn't be surprised if in the subsequent season(s), they made some changes that are a direct response to some of the criticism they get. If they do, I wouldn't be too quick to attribute it to sincerity, but rather damage control (a la Christine's latest apology).

Can I just say that I am no fan of Kody or any of his wives, besides Janelle. I find her to be the most tolerable simply because she is very well spoken, tends to speak her mind and last, but not least, she will work for a living. My Bible says if you don't work, you don't eat ...

  25. Anne.....as Cynical said "WORD". Thanx for the quick atricle read! loved it! why? hmmm....i too had sworn off reality! Im too smart...i know the ending dammit!...I watched the 1st show as a homeschool project about "religion" to my teen-age daughter. She said...oh...ok...and she lost interest after that...I must admit (my inner vixon-Robyn wanted...no needed more). After the third show...the remarks in my head starting keeping me up at night. Was i being insulted like this? was i falling for it? whats the meaning of life....whatever? One night while reading online...i googled SisterWivesBlog.....BAM!The lord must have sent me this! I have never blogged a day in my life. read great writing for about 3 days...and...well...i have been happier than anl old white man on his throne throwing his leftover meatscraps to concubines who beg to lick all his godly parts! Thanks everyone for listening!

  26. I think Robyn loves the spotlight but I really think this season all the wives are into the cameras and money rolling in. Money will never bring them happiness you know what would have brought the happiness having a loving, supportive, caring spouse who desired only them but that is clearly the opposite of what they have.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anne: I am certain. They still have "their home" which if you are familiar with "the Law of Consecration" means the AUB still owns it. The girls have moved back there to go to school AND attend Church. Where else is Mariah going to find a guy who will marry her and her cousin and her sister and sister's ex sister-in-law? I could honestly go on and on about how I am one thousand percent certain. Now as to whether or not the Leaders hate the Media/Public attention is a known fact. Kody is walking a fine line with the leadership's tolerance. I'm sure his "tithing" and any "extra money he sends to the Church would have to had increased many times over. 10 percent of TLC's money can add up quickly. Also, when someone leaves the religion, they stop wearing the garments. They don't have the Sacrament. Did you notice the lace tablecloth to the right on the makeshift "altar" they had during their "at home" Church session? They still do the rituals, they are still 100% dedicated to their faith. You gotta give them props for being so dedicated to something when EVERYONE around them can see it is soooooo wrong...

    ReplyDelete
  28. So the girls have moved back to Utah to finish high school? Would their mothers let them live there alone? One of the adults had to move back with them. The girls don't even have their own cars. They have no jobs. How are they going to buy food? Someone has to protect them from the big bad world.

Speaking of the problems with TLC reality shows, Extreme Couponing is causing huge problems since most of those shoppers are defrauding both stores and manufacturers...and lying their asses off to the viewing public.

    1. Interesting talk...sister wives is a train wreck of tremendous proportion. Extreme couponing show has made it harder for us normal couponers. Apparently there are a lot of people who think buying a hundred pizza rolls is groceries. Stores are making policies stricter and some places won't even accept them any more. The reality is...saving fifty to sixty percent on groceries is very possible and legitament. I have been saving money for twenty years using coupons. I cannot stand that these idiots with their doomsday stockpiles make us all look ludicrous. I help three families with my coupons, and now these idiots have made it harder.

    Anne,
Way back I posted about how having watched Big Love, it did strike me how many similarities exist..even wondered if that (fictional) show gave Kodouche the idea to pitch his "real" show to TLC.
And u are so right, Bill in Big Love, in the last season, decided to hold his own services with of course, himself as the prophet and head of the new congregation.
Another side note for us Big Love viewers....Marjean, the new young wife was nothing like Robyn. She was actually deferential to the other two wives, sweet and careful of her place. And Bill showed no real favoritism to her as time went on.
But interesting how Big Love's opening premise was built around a new, younger version coming in..just like SW did it.
It does support the speculation that TLC required a colorful hook to launch SW and the addition of another wife, creating high drama for the "contented" existing wives, was a blockbuster since they knew how successful Big Love had been with it on HBO.

    ReplyDelete
  31. just as the wives are getting mani/pedis for free probably (for the advertising they"ll do on Twitter and word of mouth in Vegas "the sister wives have nails done here!") , and possibly are or will be supplied with all kinds of tshirts and tops from Forever 21 or whatever, (I personally think TLC has a stylist on staff who dresses them for the talking head scenes and they get to keep the clothes), I wouldn't be surprised is some of the teens who have a drivers license wouldn't be given free cars with advertisements on them.... Think about it: how many times has Kody's Lexus been talked about on this blog alone? Also, do you think maybe they were driven out of town by their church and it was all blamed on the investigation?

  32. Are we implying that Kody had a bright idea to copycat something he saw on TV?...That he saw an opportunity he had to jump on but knew nothing about???... ok.i agree. sounds like my Kody

  34. Vastminds U crackN me up, especially about Robyn sharing her VS with the church...LMAO What's so modest about VS? Maybe she was tryna hide her stretch marks & bruises...lol
Amused, I was totally wondering about the same thing about them even having time to do religion now. Looks like that has been put on backburner too since he has speaking tour with LIV.

I'm far from perfect & never will be, but I do know one day I will stand before God to be judged...I'm just imagining Kody, saying what do you mean I can't enter thru the heavenly gates? I was bonking 4 women & had an army of kids all in name of religion & I'm supposed to be a god now with my own celestial planet. God says, You've been punked & ACCESS DENIED!! ...lol

    ReplyDelete
  35. Since they like to spout of scripture when it's convenient for them. Here's one for them to ponder: PRIDE COMES BEFORE A FALL!!
It always does & will happen when they least expect it!! I have a feeling it will be a long & hard fall too...Then they can reminisce with SWB & get mad all over again since us heathens, unworthy of their "kingdom" called them out on it & basically predicted their demise...lol
They are not being smart with their new found "fame"& $$...creating bigger & more debt for each of them to file bankruptcy...SMH ;/
Also, I wonder how the TLC $$ is being alloted to each wife accordingly?? I've said this before & I still stand by it. Kody prolly keeps the $$ in 2nd-4th wife's name, so if Meri wants to leave she can't get to the $$$ b/c it's not in Kody's name...I really wonder how the finances are handled now, since their cash cow has grown?

    ReplyDelete
  36. as far as twitter goes...Robyn baasically is laying low & retweets others playing it safe....After the media reemed her for her twitter outburts over the summer...lol
She seems like she has to have a say in everything as well as having the last word too & doesn't like to hold back, but has to refrain now b/c of media & I know it's just eating @her everytime she has to refrain from a twitter or
    FB outbursts....lol
She just irritates the hell out of me & glad their 15 minutes are almost up, even tho they are tryna get OT ....lol

    ReplyDelete
  37. Whats with all the negative comments on their finance? What about ALL the reality shows out there? If TLC did a show on any of your lives or mine, we would be compensated as well and very well I might add! They believe in their faith and are sharing it with the world. I for one have learned soooo much!! I love the show! for those comments on how the women are jealous and so on, please... How many of you catch your husband giving a sideways glance at another woman and are ready to publicly flog him? I say they are to be admired. No one is forcing them into this. They are free to leave at anytime. Cant we all just get along?!

    ReplyDelete
  38. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA....someone has been overly sipping the kool aid....thanks for the laugh Shanette :D

    ReplyDelete
  40. you love the show? "you cant love someone you dont know"....where did i hear that?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kody says love should be multiplied, not divided. Well, it is multiplied for him. He gets love and sex and lust X four. For his wives, it is divided. They get 1/4 of what they deserve.

If you want to see love multiplied and not divided take a look at monogamous marriages.

    Shanette,
    Huh????!!!!????
You are equating a husband giving a sidewaya glance at another woman....with living with a man who routinely has sex, real time sex, with THREE other women, beside you.
With women YOU have to pretend you like and call your sisters??
And pretend that their kids, spawned by *your so-called husband* are your kids too.

  44. The girls (Mariah and Madison) want to move to Lehi during for College. Brown's still own the house. The Browns own the debt of it that is. The AUB gets all their property.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think everyone analyzing what the Browns do on TV for a TV show for money is hilarious. I'm sure they're actual lives are nothing like they portray anyways. They're prolly even more boring in person.

    ReplyDelete
  46. How do we know for sure the AUB gets the ownership of the house? Is that confirmed anywhere?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Shanette,

Thanks for sharing your point of view - unfortunately, this blog is not terribly receptive to people who have anything favorable to say about the Browns.

I agree with you on one thing - that the Browns are trying to make their relationships work.. but I am seeing that because they built their relationship on impossible Religious ideals that unfortunately they cannot hope for true happiness.

They will likely bury their personal desires and resentments deeper and try to get along for their dream of celestial rewards.

I am not against the Browns and their relationship (I actually would love to see them find some peace and a solution to their issues).. I am just against relationships restricted by marriage or religious docdrin (and I am including all organized religions (in case anyone out there thinks I am just singling out this one.)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Shanette - do you really call "either do this plyg life you've agreed to or leave it and damn youself to hell" a CHOICE?? what do people not understand that when it's YOUR BELIEF - there is no choice if condemnation is the consequence for "choosing" not to.

Doris Hanson had the courage to run away at 18 "condemned to hell" (her own words) cause she was supposed to marry an old plyg man. At least these women think they've got it good cause they GOT TO PICK KODY THEMSELVES!!! HAH! lol

    ------------------------------------------------

You can say the same thing about the Browns and their friend only facebook pages. When you become a friend, they tell you that no negativity is allowed, to the point you can't even discuss Kodouche's thinning hairline.

And what happens if you violate their rules? Your post is deleted and you are banned. At least here people are allowed to voice their opinion, and as long as they don't call posters out of their names they are not deleted.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anon 9:35 - I agree - they don't really have a choice when religion dictates the rules on their relationship and 'guilts' them into staying subservient and second class. The Brown women are not open enough to consider polyamory (or even monogamy for that matter) but we sure would like to see them be less self-sacrificing. I wonder what they would answer to the question: "What would you like to improve in your relationships?" -- What could they say? They want to see more of Kody... but hey also want him to have multiple wives so they all get their planet -- they believe one thing but truly want another thing.

I am just thinking the women need to move in together in a big house and really become best friends and less dependent on Kody for affection and attention (and make Kody do the the Dad things with the kids!), or else perhaps they should all stay in houses far apart from each other and treat Kody as the husband who is 'away on business trips' for much of the week ;-)and each develop best friends outside of the group of wives.
That way, if they can't appreciate/tolerate seeing Kody's relationships with the other wives, at least they won't have it in their faces.

" but I have a feeling I will also be the target of some interesting comments :)"

    Catherine,
Not at all...Not as a *target* as you chose to say.
But as a fellow (sister) blogger on this blog, sure. !!

You made some good points. And I would hope that the Browns have parental controls on the computers. Because the Internet is filled with much more lurid and candid info about their religion than posted here.

But I do agree to disagree on one point...
I do not feel the Browns 'invited us' into their homes.
Rather, the Browns and TLC were hoping we would stop by.

Actually they were $ counting $ on it, so to speak.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Catherine,

I appreciate your opinion, however, I can assure you Sister Wives Blog does not, and has never condoned "hate-mongering comments" about the Browns or any other people discussed here.

The Browns chose to make their lives public by appearing on a reality show, seen by millions of viewers. If the Browns prefer to live their lives hearing only "positive thoughts" about their lifestyle, then, perhaps, they should NOT have chosen to appear on a reality show.

As far as comments are concerned, Sister Wives Blog welcomes readers to post their opinions, and discuss which many many have done - all without needing to bash each other or call each other names or foster hate.

Catherine, I welcome you to stay, but if you are uncomfortable here, I wish you well finding a forum that better suits your needs.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Shanette, there are many blogs which question the finances of all the participants of TLC's reality universe. That's natural. We see families go from very modest beginnings to affluence with their TLC paychecks. Because we are watching them, these people's lives are changing dramatically. We can't ignore that. It's like winning the lottery.

The Browns were in the worst dire straits, perhaps, of them all. The PUBLIC RECORDS of their bankruptcies seem to back that.

Like the Duggars, this show of theirs is a ministry. They are trying to soothe into acceptance, show us that all is normal...while at least 2 of the wives are depressed or on the edge and the teenagers are suffering from a drive-by uninvolved father.

At least the Duggars maintain level heads. I can't say the Browns are exerting any discipline like that. 4 new houses????? Who exactly has a job to maintain those homes when the TLC bread wagon pulls up stakes? None of them, at this point. That's a fair question, btw, not any attempt to antagonize The Browns. If they want to prove themselves to be responsible people who can work out this polygamy thing, then they need to really get it together.

    Catherine, thanks for the reminder.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Xenia, yes, the Brown facebook page is a bit of a joke (I borrowed my daughters account to do a quick search.. and not sure I really found anything other than some vague comments from a few viewers -- and nothing from the Browns themselves).
Anyway, yes I have to admit I have enjoyed this blog for the most part, in particularly the facts and references that a number of people have researched. So thank you to those who have helped with pieces of the puzzle.

One more piece of the puzzle... If the Browns are in the AUB and required to give tithing to the group, perhaps that is the reason TLC is paying for rent for the Brown houses and not buying or building them a house outright.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Money has bought the Browns sin.
They have forgotten their church, or they would NOT be on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anon 10:12 - They do not seem very religious in the way I guess I would expect them to be and it does seem odd that they would move so far away from their church and friends.

I don't begrudge them money but we never know what to believe. On one hand they seem to have more available cash but still cry poor.

The Duggars seem to have kept their faith despite their show and profits (and despite the science to disprove their beliefs. :) but that is another topic)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Please note: Most of the comments on this blog are aimed at the adults in the house. The teens...we have done nothing but try to encourage them ...the younger ones...we are very respectful to keep them out of snard remarks. In fact....some of us dont even address the kids (i made it a rule, when i got on) If one of their teens commits suicide....i assure you it involves more than us, here at the blog. That is a serious statement. I have seen it posted twice now.

Putting that "guilt" on people is how the church works. We are not cyber-bullies here.

    ReplyDelete
  58. This is serious issue...the abuse of women and children.

The abuse is not by us.

There are spots of serious content on here (the Kingston story), and spots that try to make it light. Adult humor. This human rights emergency is going to require all kinds....even the humorous kind.

Am I the only one who thinks these women are totally dense? What a train wreck, and these kids especially the teens. How do they really feel about their "dad" sleeping with a different "mom" every night, exactly how much kool aid have they all been drinking. This guys isn't what I would call attractive or a real catch, are these women so desperate for attention that they had to settle for Mr. fantastic, the guy needs a hair cut and a JOB! I just waiting to see which one of the "sister wives" bails first, I think it will be Janelle at least she knows how to read a profit and loss sheet (KODY IS IN THE LOSS COLUMN)and it seems that can funtion on in the outside world. Meri is constantly stressed and confused, robyn is a cry baby and Christine is just plain SILLY. it's kinda of nice that these folks are all corraled together, at least there not out screwing up 5 other normal peoples lives.

"And for all of you who were Big Love fans - does anybody see a similiarity in Ko-douche giving sermons and when Bill started his own congregation? Remember originally it was just his family that attended that too."

    Anne,
Way back I posted about how having watched Big Love, it did strike me how many similarities exist..even wondered if that (fictional) show gave Kodouche the idea to pitch his "real" show to TLC.

Apologies if this has already been posted, I haven't been reading this FANTASTIC blog for very long...but Big Love was actually based on the Daggar family (not sure I spelled their name right but you know who I mean). If you read their book Love Times Three (boring!) they do talk about this. You can put it all together of who is who from their book to the show. They were not paid for it though and claim they've been offered many reality shows but turned them down, saying they felt a book was a better way to tell their story instead.
Are the Daggars smarter than Kody? Don't need the money? (they have a really nice house and oh, he WORKS and owns a business) Hmmm...not sure. Not a fan of theirs either, just wondering.

  65. I am curious about how the Browns lived before the "big house" in Utah. Have the 3 first wives always lived together as a family or are the separate houses in Las Vegas a return to a former life-style--pre-"big house"??
