'Sister Wives' Girls Night Out Leaves Kody Close to Tears

What happens when your four wives decide to have a girls night out, leaving you home alone to watch your 17 children? Oh boy ... I can already tell I'm going to love this episode.

In our exclusive sneak peek of this week's 'Sister Wives' (Sun., Nov. 20, 9PM ET on TLC), we see polygamist patriarch Kody Brown struggling to keep it together while getting his kids to do their homework, to clean up and to stop sniffing yummy smelling markers.

After a few complaints about never getting a guys night out for himself, Kody is close to tears trying to juggle and micromanage it all without Meri, Janelle, Christine or Robyn around to regulate.

  1. Is that ROBYN's Kid crying A G A I N?

  2. Shocker - Robyn's kid is crying again. Over one more homework problem. And it's that annoying "fake" cry that is really more like a whine. And what's up with asking Mariah to "do something"?? There were about five other kids sitting around doing nothing. Hey Kody - how about clearing the table yourself if it needs to be cleared? Mariah is already busy holding the baby and helping wrangle the barrel of monkeys you call your children. Wasn't Madison standing right there too? I swear he is so accustomed to being waited on hand and foot, it never occurs to him to do anything remotely helpful. The few times we see him helping, whichever wife he is with makes a huge deal out of her helpful, thoughtful husband. They have no clue what it is like to have a partner who helps around the house or cooks dinner or helps raise the kids.

And lol at his horror at Gwendlyn (?) huffing markers - only to find out that the markers are scented and it's okay.

  3. Wow Kody parent much?? He looks really uncomfortable around his kids. Like someone who doesn't really know how to behave around them probably because he spends soooo much time hopping between houses and "honeymooning" with Robyn. Ugghhhh

  4. in Kody's defense, that is a LOT of children for one parent to handle, even if they are all your own. And all of the older kids are probably much more used to helping their mothers, rather than Kody, because they do it much more often.

That said, it is evident that the children do not feel nearly as close to their dad as their biological mothers...and probably any of their mothers, really (except for Robyn, probably)

"in Kody's defense, that is a LOT of children for one parent to handle, even if they are all your own."

Even if? WTH? Ridiculous! They ARE his own kids. This is what he signed up for. He planned this. He wants more kids. We aren't talking about 17 infants, it has been 17 years! It is surprising he knows their names, he certainly confuses the mothers at ahem, times.

  6. Anonymous- be careful. Lurker can have their opinion.

  7. I feel like everything that they do lately is soooo scripted. I like reading everyone's posts more than watching the show! Here is the real reality =)

  8. hmmmm. no obvious emotional connections with his many kids, no emotional connections with his wives, except the newest in some sort of fashion. the wives use food to literally stuff their feelings, this is all to angels in america for me.

    ReplyDelete
  9. It is scripted. And he has no real connection. Barking at the teens- and they are hating it. Can't play even for "the show".

  10. Wellll, I'm not a huge Kody fan, but I think he's not the only man to have ever been baffled by being alone with the kids. To me, Kody comes across in the video as seeming more interested in bonding with/complaining to the camera crew. His attention is divided instead of just focusing on the kids. Not an uncommon state for him, come to think of it.

  11. He looks just pitiful.

He needs to quit complaining to the cameras and playing on his mobile phone and start acting like a parent!

He truly is the poster child for the argument to bring back eugenics.

    ARGH!

  12. Anyone think the wives did this intentionally to give him a taste of what their lives are like? You know being on their own to watch a bunch of kids the majority of the time? Maybe they were hoping it would be a wake up call for him? Instead he turned it into a pity party.

  13. anyone know why Kody is wearing sunglasses on top of his head, at night, inside?

    ReplyDelete
  14. ...because it's cool, duh!

Or maybe he was just having a bad hair day and was too vain for a ponytail.

  15. I loveee this family!

  16. Can't believe it, but for once I agree with Kody - those scented markers are a really dumb idea. We had some in the after school program where i worked and we decided to throw them all away - who wants to train kids to smell markers! Other than that he looks resistant to the idea of being with his own children - doesn't even try to look like he knows what he's doing, or even likes being with them. He just looks resentful and irritated. And Kody, stop whining about not having a guys night out. I guess you want "Kody time" but you took all this on- and whose fault is that?

  17. The look Madison gives Kody at 0:55 is just priceless. It says: "Dad, you're the least helpful person in this whole situation." She knows he can't handle the brood.

  18. When Kody was texting (one of the sister wives to come bail him out?) I noticed he was wearing a regular wedding band. What happened to the lovely claddaugh ring the wives gave him to match theirs? Just like Christine's watch.... scripted and not real life. blahhh

  19. Looks like Kody is finally reaping what he sowed.

  20. This man-child is such a waste of space. I would be horrified if this were my kids' male role model. He is so lazy and just useless.

  21. Nice Ralph Lauren shirt, Kody... Hmm... Finite resources, eh?

Let's hope the full show has clips of him showing moments where Kody is actually enjoying his father-children time. Yes, 17 kids are a lot...but they all are used to being around each other and frankly didn't seem to be "tearing up the house" or anything. AND, there are numerous babysitting-age teenager helping; plus, no child was sick or anything... With all this in mind, I just don't get why this wasn't a more enjoyable experience for all! Why didn't he plan an activity (or activities - to appeal to the different age levels). The kids might not have felt as bored and out of sorts as they appeared to be.

I want to add that I rarely see Kody holding the infants and toddlers... I hope that it is a coincidence that TLC is not showing those clips rather than because Kody is truly not comfortable with young children (that was the norm in my parent's day, but surely we expect more from fathers now..)

  23. Kody is a man, has always been able to keep his eye out for other women, and all this attention lately, don't think for one MINUTE he's not loving it.
And he's getting a taste of more educated, better, dressed, intelligent women. don't think he's not got his radar out.

  24. I found this show by randomly browsing Netflix and have seen a few episodes. This preview though I must agree he seems detached from his children. Less time house hopping more time one on one with each kid. Also that baby should be on his hip as he rounds the house making the table and getting kids ready for bed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kody is disjointed, robotic,, probally due to not needing to interact with each child on kids terms. He has wives and now older kids todo the day to day parenting which builds bonds for the future and how kids interact. He is shown babysitting, like he is a shift worker. Detached and not very hands on, especially the moments missed by not picking up the little ones. The principle is a doctrine or set of rules that is supposed to elevate according to the adults in this family. Kody treats it as an abstraction, talking a good game but missing the little moments to bond or be w/ his kids, either while talking or playing. He is detached...maybe splitting the family between 4 residences & yanking them out of their comfort zone in Utah contributed. but Kody just comes across more detached, not the leader that is referred to. he seems sincere, kind, & good intentioned in some areas while missing the mark on day today stuff that affects the family. He believes in an abstract principle. But the day to day walk is lost on him.

  26. WHY is the teens even there? This should be a night off for them!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sunglasses, oh my gosh, bad hair day or really self absorbed......Goofy visual but it fits Kody and his fifth wife, the hair. Still chuckling after that clip. Earth to Browns.....I wonder if the teens will start feeling differently being uprooted to Vegas.

  28. He looks like an uncle called in at the last moment to take over a daycare center full of nieces and nephews. When he didn't even know about scented markers - made me wonder where this guy's been for the last 15 years?

    ReplyDelete
  29. GOOD ONE!
Who doesn't know about scented markers after 21 kids? Boy, he has played tons with them, yeah.

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL @ Cynical's comment......so true on the uncle part!

Yes! Kody really does seem out of the loop on what the kids need's are (you would think he would be a pro at handling the kids.) I wish TLC would show more of what time he does spend alone with individual children. They kind of jumped around from scene to scene - perhaps to exaggerate the busyness and problems.

And it really appeared that Kody begrudged the wives getting time to "bond" - Isn't it important for the wives to have alone time together? Did they not say that one of the perks of having sister-wives is the relationship between the wives?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I noticed that, too. Why is he begrudging this?
Why doesn't he know the kids better? Shouldn't be chaos.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I really don't think that Kody knows that much about his children.... except for Mariah.

Think about it. He sees each wife and that wife's kids every 4 days (maybe, unless Robin 'needs' him). And, the occasional TLC family gathering.

All the wives are desperate to spend quality time with him for that day. So part of each 'day' is spent just with the adults. The kids go to school so that time is lost between the kids and Kody. So he just sees each family for a few hours a couple times a week or less.
Janelle and Christine each have six children, so how much time could he actually spent with one of them? Robin's kids are gone with their father on a regular basis. And, Kody ignores them in favor of Robin.

Mariah is the only one who gets to spend one on one quality time with her Dad on the days he is at her house. Plus, she is nice, quiet, and makes no demands on Kody. So he probablly spends more time with her as a result.

  34. AND, (I agree)
WHEN he is at a wife's house, don't they get a DATE night? So they are out until bedtime?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Personally, I LOVE the Browns. I say this is just editing to look like Kody is flustered.
And yes, I'd be a 5th wife if I could. I think Kody is great and sweet and a hunk!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I do like the closing comment " You and me both, can we go have a cry in the corner?"...Makes you feel for Kody and all the kids.....I hope the older teens had time to do actual homework as they may have actual deadlines. Homework time is probablly set up differently throughout the week. I think it would of been nicer for the kids if the long-term moms had set up some guidelines, designated study areas, or some remnant of a schedule the kids are used to. As they may be going out but they are still their kids. While Kody was overwhelmed and goofy, I was feeling he could of had a little help setting it up better. The entire situation is goofy. They are all seeing like shift workers. Once off shift, kids forgotten.

  37. KodyIsCool - oh please oh please go be their 5th wife! spice up the drama with knocking Robyn off her pedestal.

  40. Kody complains he doesn't get a "guys night out"??? His whole life is a "guys night out"! And then he actually did get one! What a jerk. Truly amazing that these men can always find (multiple) women to marry them. Ugh, I have to change the channel...

    ReplyDelete
  41. LOL My thoughts exactly Anon 11:52!

Instead of embracing this night as a time to bond with his kids, he turned out to be the biggest baby of all!

    "Uhhh.. Mariah... do something uhh.."
"Wahhh! Where is my guy's night out? Not fair! Wahhh!"
"That's it! It's 11:20pm and my wives are still out! Not cool! Wahhh!"
"Hey! Hey! Everyone! Look at me! Look what a great dad I am! A boy wasn't focusing on his homework so I put him upstairs and shut the door! Aren't I so good!? Praise me!"

    ReplyDelete
  42. I laughed out loud at him whining about not having a guy's night out. Dude, your whole life is a guy's night out. You drive your fancy sports car from bed to bed in between time in front of the mirror doing your hair. Douche.

  43. He really did look aggravated they were out, didn't he. I swear he was like ROBYN your losing your night!

What he watched them from dinner to bedtime, 3-4 hrs.

I GOT ONE NO ONE MENTIONED.
    The oldest girls.
they Always help their mom everynite.
BUT, come time to help Kody and they act...rebellious in my book! AHAHAHHA

If you're really keen to be 5th wife, just trot along to Bluffdale, Utah, attend a meeting, and convert to the AUB. Then all you have to do is claim a "revelation" saying you belong to Kody, and then you're in with a chance - he at least has to consider you. (Hope you are young and tolerably attractive, because that will help your chances considerably, and increase the likelihood of him getting a "revelation" too). If that doesn't work, don't worry, there are heaps of other guys willing to take you on. Good luck! (Oh, and after a few years, if you contact me again, I can help you find a good therapist.)

  45. Wait, wait, wait....I want to be a 5th wife!! I am a single mom of three kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats and I work and work and work and raise the kids on my own. Think on it a bit. I could get a new house, money, free babysitting (!!!!), and not have to deal with a man at all (except for once a week for a few hours a night). I could greet him at the door with xanax mixed into his hot chocolate and he would be sleeping like a baby in no time so I could enjoy my night with a smile and a thought "oh, this is the life!"

It really annoyed me the way Kody had to text his wives while they were out having a good time. He couldn't even let them have an evening's freedom without butting in!
