Brady Williams Family Tree

News from Wrap TV:

By Jethro Nededog
TLC is ready to introduce its viewers to a new polygamous family. But, if you're thinking this is a redux of its hit "Sister Wives" reality series, you may be pleasantly surprised by the show's twist on polygamist values.
One-hour special, "My Five Wives," will premiere on Sept. 15 at 9/8c and feature a polygamist family that left the Mormon Church in protest of its conservative beliefs, The Wrap has learned.

As TLC has been known to do, the success of the special may lead to a series pickup for "My Five Wives."

Brady Williams, his five wives and their total of 24 children, live outside of Salt Lake City. They believe in all kinds of progressive ideas they don't share with the Mormon Church, including equality for everyone and a God who accepts all people.
Shunned by their former Church brethren, the family says they are polygamous by choice and not just religious doctrine.

Produced by Relativity Television, the series also goes further into the family's intimate relationships than "Sister Wives." Cameras are allowed in the bedrooms and the women speak openly about their schedules with Brady.

  1. I'll end up watching the new show because of the curiosity of something different, but for the life of me I cannot understand why women want to share their husband???
Notice none of these guys have red-headed wives?? That cause we wouldn't tolerate that for one second! lol!

    3. I don't think there is a man on this earth that can handle more than one ginger wife! We tend to be in a league all our own! :)

    4. Sorry to burst any bubbles, but there are plenty of redheaded ladies in the FLDS. In fact, supposedly Warren Jeffs was arranging marriages to produce more redheads (along with more blondes).

But as a former redhead myself (at babyhood) gingers do rock!

My husband is LDS but I am not. It took us a long time to reach a place of acceptance of each other's religious choices. I will never bash the Morman faith, but I don't accept it as my own faith.
And, although, LDS doesn't believe in plural marriage, when we watch Sister Wives, my husband always says that he cannot handle one wife and cannot imagine why polygamists want several!

    6. That's why I started watching Sister Wives, I wanted to see them deal with jealousy etc.. Now I watch to have a good laugh! And then tune in here for Cynical's take on it! Really makes my day. I really would like to see a polygamous family with the REAL issues you know they have! I wish half of the TLC sneak peeks were actually what they tease you with!

  3. Just went to the Wrap and read their bio's....same congregation as the Brown family. They have a more liberal view on life than the AUB so they left....or that is the story line any way. I know that people of color are thought to have the mark of Cain and cannot carry the priesthood. Being Gay is a sin also. But I'm thinking there's more to it. Something a little deeper that none of them wish to discuss. I'm going to watch it. Like an old friend of mine said to me when I told her I was watching Sister Wives...."you can take the girl out of Utah...but you can't take Utah out of the girl". LOL

    1. UtahSister - did you read the first comment? Not so sure how liberal he really is or if it is all for the camera. Someone (?) from their ex-church posted, sounds like this could be another hypocritical situation. Can I quote it? The first sentence is, "When he was part of that church he was a bishop and was one of the hard nosed pricks trying to control everyone else..."

      Delete
    2. Yes, 8haron, that first comment was tres telling:

"What a douche! When he was part of that church he was a bishop and was one of the hard nosed pricks trying to control everyone else. He got pissed when some of the other leaders told him to back off and quit being such a zealot. Now he pretends he left because they were too hard nosed and "conservative". He is a total fake and a poser and putting himself out there like this will expose his charade. Hope he is ready for the backlash."

    3. I think one of those "streams of income" better start flowing like a river for the Browns. I will go out on a limb and predict that within 18 months we will see the first car, either a financial or family split, to come off the tracks. I don't think their egos can take the competition from a family where everyone is fit and have real careers. Janelle is the only one coming close to being a normal, functioning human. Christine lost me with the whole, "I can't do real estate scene."

    4. Dakota Justice this is done by Relativity Television, not F8F.

Under the bios I thought this was interesting - the part about 8 years before feeling a part of the family:

Rhonda and Brady have been married for 12 years and have four kids, ranging in ages from 13 to two years old. Rhonda, who is Robyn’s cousin, loves to work outside the home and is now a medical assistant. Despite their immediate bond, she confesses it still took eight years before she really felt like she belonged in the family.

  5. Maybe this new show will gives us an HONEST view about polygamy. From what I have read so far , this new family seems to be more down to earth with their worldly views. Hopefully, they will portray the genuineness of their true family dynamics. Very happy to hear that they are willing to discuss topics that Kody and the Kodettes refuse to undertake. This show seems like it will be upbeat and I look forward to watching it. - Lynn from Delaware

If this new family makes enough money out of this, they'll probably leave Utah of their own accord. At the moment they're stuck in the polygamist town of Rocky Ridge, Utah, because the houses they built with their own money belong to AUB. Right now they can't afford to move.

So, i guess i'm a little confused with the nickname Dargers have given Browns. Did they say why they call them that?

    5. Joe Darger married first married Valerie and Alina who are cousins, later he married Valerie's twin sister Vicki. The story goes that all three women were happy with the situation.

I don't know..I've thought about this. If mind you if I was going to be a Fundamental Mormon, I would rather be with my family that strangers. That might sound weird, however, it would be plausible that these three love their other children much more because of these ties. Besides, if I was going to have a bunch of "bonus children" might as well be my nieces and nephews!

Brady with 5 wives! Kody Kody you better marry quick! As others said above, a redhead please. 23-25, so you can get a few more children. Robyn wasn't a wise choice.

  12. I think this is pretty startling. TLC tried this with the Dargers and per Papa Joe, they just didn’t think there was a market for two very similar polygamist families. So now there is a new family that will compete with the Browns for the TLC Polygamist show. I would have to think the Browns are nervous.

After watching last week’s lame 30 minute show (which was 22 minutes as CJ has pointed out), I started to wonder if the Browns are either not allowing TLC to explore the story lines that would make this show really interesting or if the Browns are simply ‘too boring’?

Are the Browns demanding more money or being difficult? Is there an issue somewhere that would makesTLC want to walk away?
Does anyone know, are they still being filmed? The last footage was from 2012 and that’s been almost a year now.

    1. per Papa Joe, they just didn’t think there was a market for two very similar polygamist families

Yep, Papa Joe did say that, but I think what's happen is TLC may believe they have found the "right" family to exploit...I mean showcase.

The Dargers had that "ick" factor of 2 twins and their cousin married to one man, plus Joe came across as a super-controlling, no nonsense sort of fellow that was boring. Very, very boring. And I thought I read somewhere he did not want his family to be exploited with fake storylines.

The Williams also have a level of "ick" (2 wives are cousins) but ups the ante with the 5 (FIVE) wives to juggle with a gaggle of kids. I've also noticed their show is produced by a different production company, so who knows. It says they are more willing to talk about "sex" and that they aren't that much into the religion aspect of polygamy so we will find out how differ they are from the Browns. At least they have JOBS!

Is there an issue somewhere that would makes TLC want to walk away?
You know, when Kody tweeted "I MAKE$$$$" that just set off all sort of bells with me. From my own job experience, the people who scream that they MAKE$$$$ are usually the ones that don't have a pot to you know what in. That lien on Robyn's house was a warning signal something ain't right. He may have many streams of income, but at the end of the month, how much money is left in the bank account once all the bills have been paid? Even Liberace said he "...laughed all the way to the bank". The only thing Kody can say, with the recent acquisition of 4 overpriced McMansions, is that he laughed all the way to the poor house because there wasn't anything left to put in the bank! And I think all these "split" seasons, delays, no firm dates when the season starts, etc, are due to Kody (and/or his minions who "work" for him) demanding more money.

And I don't think the Browns were told by TLC that a rerun was being shown on Sunday.

TLC basically took charge of the Browns about when their book came out last year. Instead of having live chat on their "restricted membership" facebook fan page (ran by a friend of Robyn) they began to use twitter instead. I KNOW this had to be a TLC enforced requirement because it made logical sense. Why do a live chat on facebook with an audience of maybe a thousand when with twitter you can literally reach hundreds of thousands? That level of thinking is beyond the Browns capabilities...otherwise they would have always used twitter for the live chats from the beginning.

As far as currently being filmed, I wouldn't be surprised if they are still being filmed (the teaser for the Q&A episode had Ysabel holding a clapper with the date July 2013 on it) but I'm getting a feeling of desperation from Kody in his scenes - a little too animated, too swarmy in his talking heads. I think he realizes that the end is very near and is trying too hard by turning on his "charm" (that makes women want to be his 5th wife, oy vey).

I think TLC is just tired of having to deal with his narcissistic mess.

      Delete
    2. Well said Cynical Jinx! When you said "I think TLC is just tired of having to deal with this narcissistic mess" it reminded me of the final days of Kate+8 -- that horrible camping trip where she was a complete monster to her nanny/assistant/friend (can't remember the exact relationship). She completely unraveled and it was actually uncomfortable to watch. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but it seemed that TLC abruptly stopped producing the show. I wonder if the Brown mess will also end like that.

    3. There seems to be an inevitable pattern with these 'reality shows'. A season (maybe two) where they are being filmed but have not yet let stardom and/or money overtake their good sense. With the Gosselins, we did get to see the reality of life with 8 small children. With the Rollofs, we did get to see the reality of life as little people, or relatives of same. With the Duggars, we show 14 and coutng children. Pick any show.

Then, we get to the 'famous' years, where we have storyboards, and contrived situtions, or trips to get people to tune in. Then either real life intrudes (divorce, children grow up, people get arrested) and the show implodes. Some families are more stable than others, so their implosion is quieter, or more controlled, but it still happens.

The Browns will explode because those kids aren't going to put up with it once they go off to college and realize how they've been lied to, and why they didn't have anything growing up due to 5 adults, one income.

      Delete
    4. I need spell check. 'Duggars, we saw', not show. Contrived situations, not situtions. My inner Robyn must be coming out.

    1. Maybe the fifth wife can live with Meri. Or maybe they'll all have to move to a new cul-de-sac with 5 houses. Stay tuned!! Personally, I would enjoy the drama a fifth wife would bring. I'm not sure Christine would be very happy as she has stated numerous times that she doesn't want a new wife joining the family. I think that Kody wants more kids and with only Robyn willing (or able) to produce, he may need more than one breeder.

    2. If they get a fifth wife, I wonder how long THAT honeymoony would be. Sobbin got 11 days. Maybe it'll be 3 weeks. I just watched the first season again, and wow no wonder Christine was/is in such a funk. I wonder if the new TLC polygamist family will talk about purrity, hope not.

      Delete
    3. Oooooooh yes a fifth Facebook wife won during a raffle who Kody can't even meet but instead can only SKYPE with for 3 weeks before their big "LAS VEGAS" wedding and honeymoon! They'll have a huge, elaborate wedding similar to that of Prince William and Princess Kate except the wedding dress will cover the new "bride" from neck to ankle, no skin can show. Her joolery will be featured curteous of My Sisterwife's Closet (that name isn't even gramatically correct), aaaaaaaaand after the wedding during the 5 week LAS VEGAS honeymoon (Kody can find some really boring and lame stuff to do in Las Vegas with the new bride right). After, we can watch Robyn go nutty butty over the fact that Kody was gone for 5 weeks with a new fACEBOOK wife. The new wife should be highly educated (at least a Master's degree), she should speak two languages so the family can take their show to Mexico on a "vacation" (story plot), aaaaaaaaand she has to be thin and beautiful. I mean how much fun would it be to have a FACEBOOK RAFFLE FOR KODY'S WIFE considering it sounds like there's a cult following of devoted online/Twitter fans to this circus of a show!

pS: IF THIS WERE TO PLAY OUT THE REACTIONS WOULD BE JANELLE NOT CARING STILL AND CONTINUING TO LOSE WEIGHT AND TRYING TO WORK/RAISE HER FAMILY, CHRISTINE WOULD JUST BE TOO DIM-WITTED TO CARE, MERI WOULD CONTINUE TO GROW ORANGE PER EPISODE (DARKER SHADES), AND ROBYN WOULD TOTALLY HAVE A TERESA G. MOMENT AND FLIP TABLES INSTEAD OF TOSSING COOKIE HEARTS ON CARPET.

    5. According to Nielsen Media Research, the September 26, 2010, one-hour premiere episode of Sister Wives drew 2.26 million viewers,[34] a strong rating for the network. It marked the biggest series debut for TLC since Cake Boss launched in 2009 and was a stronger rating than any of the season premieres for HBO's Big Love.[35] The remaining episodes of the first season were each a half-hour long, with two broadcast together each Thursday. In the second week, the first episode drew 1.88 million viewers, while the second drew 2.13 million.[36] The third week drew similar results, with 1.89 million viewers watching the first episode and 2.05 million watching the second.[37] Sister Wives drew its strongest ratings during the fourth and final week of the first season, with 2.67 million viewers for the first episode and 2.74 million for the season finale.[15] As a result of the 2.7 million average viewership for the two episodes, TLC ranked first among all ad-support cable channels in the 18–49 and 25–54 age groups. The series drew double- and triple-digit ratings gains in all key demographics and ranked second in ad-supported cable network shows during its time period.[38]

by season 4: (Six in our world)
The fourth season premiere of "Sister Wives" and the series premiere of "Breaking Amish: LA" both had solid debuts for TLC on Sunday, July 21. "Sister Wives" averaged 2.6 million viewers and was no. 1 in the 9 p.m. timeslot in women 25-54 -- which puts "Sister Wives" ahead of the programming on both FOX and the CW.

Long story short, in ratings world they are still going strong. I wouldn't count them out yet.

IMO we will be lucky enough to have "Sister Wives" at least through the fall and spring season. If they didn't do filming during the brother's sad death, they surely will do something about his father. I can only hope they do some pre travel to Montana and maybe when they get back. A nice photo montage of pictures and Logan and Hunter ONLY speaking of the time spent up there. Remember this is Janelle's step dad also. Will affect two mothers.

This new group looks like a trip. Reading all the postings about how they are connected is interesting. Are they really still on AUB land? Interesting.

    4. With time comes change. I have read many articles on open relationships and the new show on Showtime Polymory Married & Dating, talk about how marriages end in divorce and statistically men can't be monogamous. Showing that if they allow men to have more than one, they feel settled and happy. NOW, not that I am agreeing to that BUT I would like to say that I don't see a lot of separations in these relationships. Do the woman look tired, beat down, YES. BUT, I want to see an interview with a woman that has been married 16 years that doesn't.

  18. Hmmmm, so they'll be more "open" about the bedroom/schedule, huh? Well, sex sells, and the Browns have forbidden any candid talk about it, so here comes a more interesting family in that regard.
Still gross and completely baffling to me, no matter how liberal their other beliefs may be.

    1. The Browns have been ridiculous about the s*x thing. It is sacred and special between just the husband and that wife. Ok, I get that...but most of us are curious, does Kody alternate nights on a set schedule? (I am guessing 'no' which is why he won't answer that). Do they sit down and come up with a schedule like they did on Big Love? I don't think any of us want the 'details' of their intimacy, just how it works as far as time spent with each wife.

The fact that Robyn had to atone for the lost cookie during her harlot days makes me agree that Kody is 'trying' to make the show more salacious but that is all he is comfortable doing....throwing Robyn (and 3 of her kids) under the bus.

Totally agree CPA Carol. I'm guessing this special is an intentional gambit to leverage the Brown's salary lower during a contract re-negotiation. Kody must be aware that his family has to capture headlines/interest with more than their aggrandized key chain shop. I suspect the producers were leaning hard on them for something a little sexier and just like you said, Kody sacrificed Robyn and her kids.

      Delete
    3. They mentioned the schedule once. He just goes down the line. I am not sure of the order but each wife would get him every 4th night. Unless on a honeymoon or getaway with one of them.

Traditionally first wife sets the schedule. Traditionally the cycles are kept track of so more babies come. Traditionally I thought a pregnant wife or one that can't anymore doesn't get any. So being pregnant gets you out of sex. You may still get him at your house but you may not get cookie on your night. So if all wives are pregnant he shouldn't be getting cookie at all. The life of a chaste husband in polygamy is ironic.

    4. That does upset me too. On Big Love, one of the things I enjoyed MOST was watching them talk about skipping days and someone trading a night with Bill. On Sisterwives, we NEVER see them doing that. At least on season 1, we would see him go say goodnight. The dynamics is what I am missing now. I want to see him text each of them good night or SEE how it works. I think they have gone off a path of storylines that is boring. I am enjoying this season because they are moving into the houses and we wanted to see them act normal, not TALK about the same crap over and over. I want to see some day to day life.

  19. I can't imagine wasting any more time than I am ashamed to admit I already have watching a group of weird women vie for the attention of an asshole. I don't believe that this will be any more of an honest representation of polygamy than SW. There won't be any boys discussing how they are ousted because they're competition for the older pervs, which is a topic none of these kooks will ever address.

  21. You don't sound close-minded. You sound sane. I understand when the sisterwives say things like, it makes you a better person. Of course it does. True hardship brings out a person's character, makes you focus on what's important. How many people who have survived something awful say the same thing. "Well cancer sucked, but it made me into a better person..." The difference is NO sane person thinks, oh I wish I would get cancer, be in a plane crash, survive being attacked by a bear because it would straighten me right up and make me focus on what really matters. Why would you choose hardship??? It's like when priests used to wear a hair shirt. (so yes, I did say that Kody is like a hair shirt).

    1. I agree. When they use it as a means to get to Heaven, it makes the women appear weak, and needy. If it's a lifestyle they choose because that's what they want, and they really do have independent relationships from one another (heck, do the wives HAVE to be friends?!) and the women are strong enough to stand up and tell him when he's being a douche, then more power to them. I don't get to watch the episodes (stupid TLC!) but watch the clips, and all the women seem to be competing with each other, and Kody just gets his rocks off on all them fighting over him. Yes, they seem to get along when he's around and the cameras are rolling, but anyone can see how strained it is since he brought Robyn in and moved to Vegas. That's not a happy marriage for any of them; it's high school

I think I keep hitting a brick wall with these types of shows because I do not understand the religious reasons and we don't hear discussions on the shows about it, its all very quickly stated and they move on from it. It doesn't makes sense to me, but maybe it never will because it all boils down to that is their belief - end of story.

    6. I personally know--am related to--2 families who practice polygamy that is not inspired by religion. The first wife in one is infertile and DEMANDED that the husband marry a girl (whom she hand picked and manipulates). Another was a woman who married under pressure from her family; neither spouse particularly wanted to marry the other to begin with.

In the case of the first, the fertility problem turned out to be the man's. The poor 2nd wife has been made to endure repeated cycles of IVF. Both the husband and first wife tell everyone it's the girl who is infertile, to keep her undesirable to anyone else. The husband and second wife are both pretty miserable. The first wife is pretty happy. She controls her husband utterly--and his obvious (though unspoken) infertility validated her "fault" in the situation.

The second situation, all are happy. The first wife and her children are all supported financially, she doesn't ever have to "put out"--unless she's in the mood, then he throws one her way. They live next door to each other and the kids all roam back and forth as they choose. The second wife deeply loves her husband, and is very close to the first wife

      Delete
    7. Even without religion tho - both of these scenarios don't sound emotionally healthy. Even in the case of the second situation. Sounds strange for first wife to pick polygyny (what it's actually called when it's the man who has more than one wife) over a divorce and move on to someone she does emotionally and physically connect with. Anyway, it all sounds whack to me.

The only time i've seen or read where polygyny worked out FOR THE MOST PART for all was not only when it wasn't religion based but also when no children were involved. I know a situation that was hunky dory for several years (man with 3 wives) til a child was brought in and then it became a disaster. I've been convinced polygamy (whether it's polygyny or polyandry) is not an emotionally healthy environment for a child to be raised in.

  31. Why is the topic of sex taboo for the Browns? Personal yes, private yes, however the Brown's have chosen to reveal their personal private lives on national TV. A balanced sex life between partners is a key factor to 99% of successful long term relationships. Listen up Brown family, lets start speaking some truth. God created man and woman. He gave men and women sexual desire so that they would pro-create which leads to children and family. (This is your purpose right?, to be and raise a family?) The sexual relations between a husband and wife are the cornerstone of your now public life. All women (and men) have jealousies, regardless of relationship type. How can a multiple wife NOT wonder, while she and her shared husband are engaging in sexual relations, if he is thinking or comparing her with another wife? At times, HE IS, it happens. How can a man with multiple wives NOT think or compare a wife against his others in a sexual manner? At times HE DOES. Kody, and his wives, have often stated the differences of each women/wife with regard to individual personality, character, talent, and abilities. Anyone who has ever had more than one sexual partner knows that personality, character, talent and ability of an individual shows itself under the covers too. So why should the subject of sex be exempt from the show? The way the Browns work out their normal marital (sexual included) relationship issues is what is fascinating to the monogamous public. With that being said I think the sun is setting on Sister Wives.

    1. I agree, and for the record, i think Kody compares all the women to Robin. I also doubt that he has very many sexual encounters with any of the other women. He might throw Mary the occasional bone, but other than that I bet it's only Robin that he thinks of when he wants sex. I just think this way because I see that when I read the body language between all these women & Kody. When Robin says they should have been together from the beginning, I think she really means she and Kody should have been together from the beginning. I highly doubt she would have been o.k. with him taking on other wives. In fact I'd bet she fantasizes of Kody running away with her leaving the rest of the lot to fend for themselves, well they have to fend for themselves now, so that part is already a reality, just the way I see it.

  33. Robyn's speech, or confession or whatever that was last week where she threw her children's father under the bus and threw the ornament on the floor was a bit much. Was that the Brown's attempt to gin up more ratings? The way that Kody sat there nodding his head with that stupid look on his face, like he is trying to convey how uber super serious what she is saying is...it was all so contrived and just awful.
It was so easy to uncover all of Robyn's lies and half truths. That coupled with Kody's "keep sweet" lecture that he gave his daughter Mariah the week before, they are sounding and looking an awfully lot like the FLDS who no one wants to glorify and give a reality tv show to.
Also I read somewhere, could have even been on this blog, that Merri and Kody courted an underage girl after they were married to each other but before they married Janelle...that makes them even more like the FLDS...in their effort to look like a "normal" family they have shown how similar to the dreaded Warren Jeffs that they actually are...maybe TLC is saying no thanks, FINALLY...all of this coupled with Kody's likely demands for more money-yeah he makes MONEY$$$$, sure you do Kody, that's why you haven't just paid Robyn's debts, makes so much sense...another plyg family was just waiting in the wings for the Brown's to exit stage left!
On the house tour Robyn wouldn't allow the camera in her bedroom, she said "you don't get to go in there!" That after she allowed the birth of her son Sol to be filmed, we all saw her spreaded legs and all pushing out a child! But you can't film my bedroom...but I'll talk about giving away my more precious than jewels cookie to the wrong guy and how it was the worst mistake of my life-even though I have three healthy children from said mistake who are all hearing me say this...Seriously!
I hope that TLC nixes the Brown's and if they must have a plyg show bring on a family that will actually discuss all topics openly and not play these silly games...you can come into my boudoir and film me give birth, but you can't come in and see what it looks like when nothing is happening in there????

I know Christine did and remember when we saw Meri's and what a freakin' mess it all was?? we were all surprised since she's supposedly always touted herself as the anally clean and organized one. but that bedroom was surprising and that she'd even let it be seen on camera like that. 34. If it weren't for the sex, there wouldn't be anything interesting about the family.

I suspect they don't discuss the rotation because it isn't really a rotation, just night after night with the new toy.

In Big Love the wives controlled the schedule, which gave them a bit of power and also ensured a fair allocation of time with the husband. He also spent nights with the infertile wife.

It seems like Kody probably doesn't spend nights with wives that aren't actively trying to get pregnant. That would explain why Meri doesn't want to shut the door on pregnancy. It would also explain the strained relations with Christine. When married couples aren't having sex, relations outside the bedroom usually suffer too. They get irritated and ahort with each other.

Kody simply doesn't want to admit how inequitable the rotation actually is because it makes him look very, very bad.

The kids are the most interesting part of the Brown's and we hardly ever see or hear from them...why?
Sobbin Robyn's lies, she just digs herself in deeper and deeper and nothing is ever explained...
Merri's infertility, they beat that one to death, we all know Merri won't be having anymore kids, why would she think about it for three years at her age? Do they think we are all this stupid?
Holding out Help, that could have been interesting, we were all hoping Christine would jump ship, she didn't though, boring...
They don't even give Truley any screen time and she is the best part of the Brown family!
Qualifying for loans, another one that they beat to death...they say they are so rich but Robyn doesn't pay her debts off...makes the audience wonder, wonder if they are full of it
This show is boring, if TLC is going to exploit polygamy then just do it already. Cast a family who knows what they are getting into and is ready to make the show interesting the Brown's just aren't...

Nothing like Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition, or The Biggest Loser...A REAL show about HEALTHY weight loss struggles and keeping it off! Those other shows may seem inspirational at first, but in real reality (ya like there is any of that) who knows what the contestants on those shows do to lose the amount of weight in such a short period of time, or what health issues that they suffer from after what they go through. I have struggled with my weight since childhood, it would be refreshing to see how someone really handles set backs and NOT being weighed on a freight scale and humiliated into losing weight.

  47. Any reality show should be able to "write itself" the first two seasons (at least) because we're getting to know the people as "characters" and that is interesting... no additional stories or drama needs to be written. Part of me wonders if this new Polygamy show will force the Browns to up their game, so to speak and force them to be more 'open' about what they'll discuss. Either the Browns are really boring (hence the manufactured story lines) or TLC thinks that fake drama is necessary to keep people watching. I really liked the first two seasons where what we saw of their lives onscreen seemed more organic. I wouldn't be bored with seeing more slice of life type stuff like school shopping or grocery shopping or what they do on an average Saturday. I also want more focus on Janelle and Christine. They are awesome... and I didn't even really care for Christine until I came here and saw the light. I used to see her as being really negative, but given the way she is treated by her husband, it's no wonder...

  48. Fascinating. Sounds like they're getting closer to Polyamory: Married and Dating, the docu-drama series on Showtime about polyamorous (egalitarian, generally nonreligious, lots of emotional processing, every single person has the capacity for multiple relationships and not just the guys) folk. This new thing sounds like a mix of that show (which I love, and which I think a lot of the readers here might find interesting) and Sister Wives. I kinda want to see how far the cameras go into the bedroom. (On the Showtime series they, um, go all the way.)

I'm a bit biased towards nonmonogamy generally, since I'm a polyamorous woman and I'm super happy and blessed with my circle of lovers and friends, but I'm definitely going to be checking out this new show--just how progressive are these folks, really?

    ReplyDelete
  49. These folks started into polygamy only because they believed in it as a religious duty revealed by God. Now that they have left AUB, they have also left behind those beliefs, as well as a lot of the bigotry (racism etc.) I get that they stayed together, but I am not looking forward to them trying to re-package polygamy as some kind of "cool" and "alternative" life style. They need to remember its inherent inequalities, and the misery that polygamy causes (and these women have felt this too at one time or another).

    1. Hear hear, ex AUB. Sure, I'd like to hear a little more specifics about how they manage the man-share. But I also like to hear...FOR ONCE...some nitty gritty, gut-honest talk about the obvious difficulties. Stop, for crying out loud, feeling the need to pretty-up the pain, the jealousy, the hurtful train of thought when he's sleeping elsewhere, or even just showing a tender gesture to someone else in your presence. I tune into these shows because I'm trying to wrap my mind around the HOW. HOW can you live a life where you are a witness to behaviors that most of us call CHEATING, without going nuts.

These women have been snowed, big time, IMO, then made to feel guilty and inadequate when they experience normal human emotions.

      Delete
    2. i don't think we're going to hear the real nitty gritty from ANY plyg family that's marketing their lifestyle to the public through the media. why would they give us that? it's not in their best interest to do so. So far, Sister Wives and Polygamy USA and the Dargers have ALL been trying to glamorize it and rose-colored glass it for us. Yet it's still been a massive fail anyway tho, imo.

I doubt this family special is going to change anything. TLC's just striking while the iron's hot for their viewers current insatiable appetite for watching the variety of plyg trainwreck families. If they're boring like the Dargers were (in spite of their one ick factor of twin sisters) the one special is all we'll get.

      Delete
  50. Hard to say if this family, if they are added to the TLC stable, will capture the same audience as SW. I guess it would depend on whether a viewer is watching for the Plyg angle, or if a viewer is now vested in the SW personalities.

The Browns just may have maxed out their appeal. There is a stale and predictable flavor to all of them now.

Meri? What more is there to know or witness about this woman. Oh yeah, the snark can continue about her orangeness, her hedge-clippered hairdo, her control freak attitude. But at the end of the day, she is "the wife." She is the one Kody-bedmate who does hold the cards. And she and Kody do seem to actively live their legal bond. Predictably and *almost* conventionally.

Janelle? Janelle knows exactly what she wants and is where she wants to be.
She wanted the man along with having his kids. And she wanted lots of help in caring for her kids. She has worked and probably will again, but will do it more for the escape from the tedium of housekeeping and mothering. Her life is all tied up in a neat Plyg bow. Janelle has no need nor desire "to run."
She is a one note person. But good for her in losing the weight.

Christine? Christine's appeal as the loveable, silly Gidget of the group has morphed into being the ever-striving Jimminy Cricket for the family's Plyg values. But no one hears her.
She is a good mother. She feels and is overlooked. What else can be shown about Christine? More scenes alluding to her low-level anxiety/depression will fall short. Been there, done that. Christine also will never leave by choice.
    She *believes* in the lifestyle.

Sobbin Robin? The poor woman (no snark intended for once) has mental issues.
She should not be in this family. None of the others are equipped to deal with her dysfunction. Her issues obviously started years ago. She needs a good therapist.

Kody? Kody is his own show. He is a narcissist of grand proportion. It wouldn't have mattered if he was Plyg or Mono or Gay or Straight, Kody will be the ringmaster and rule in his own egocentric world.

What more is there to see and know about these people?
But will the new family be any different once the initial veneer wears thin?

SWB has an energy and life force all its own. Cynical Jinx and Mister Sister have created a unique world here that certainly could accommodate yet another Plyg family if it goes that way. Meanwhile, we content ourselves with watching the rise and fall of Kodyworld.
And also we learn about an alternative lifestyle, surely not by the words and actions of TLC stars, but from the diligent research of the Blog creators and contributors.
    And I am grateful.

    1. I think TLC will keep them on a bit if they do some more focusing on the family and kids. It's what appeals to TLC, like the super huge Duggars, only with the twist thrown in. The Duggars have been on for 10 years now right? And they keep retelling the same stories. They've only married off one of their kids and now they're focusing on his family now sort of. Even Jon and Kate had a six year run. I think the Browns can be on awhile if they played their cards right. I would miss the snark and the good times of this board if they went away lol.

    2. the Browns...This new show will be just another in the conveyer belt of shows having the same predictable formula. This is a bizness and it is like any other. The fickle nature of the viewing public dictates...You get rid of steady, higher paid employees and higher new ones, cheaper and less likely to ask for the sky during negotiations. I also think the crew is probably bored and fed up out of their mind...No mystery here,
no magic panties, no hidden cookies. I am sure like many others hve a love hate relationship so I will wish them well whatever comes. And will tune-in to see the 5wives. With that said,,,Lemurs AWAY....:O

  51. As many of you know, I started a genealogy on a program, FTM with Sister Wives. Then I also have one started with Poly USA. I always held back posting them. Well, not feeling so protective of the Browns anymore! Excited to see postings to add, I can only imagine HOW interconnected I will find them to be. Keep up any knowledge of this crew. One day I'll put all the families together and it should be good.

And putting all the families together will be an epic project.

    2. It is pretty cool, and yes, they all fall into the same gene pool withthin 2 generations or so. How to present it is another thing. It falls into abt 500 pages. Scary. We will see, and all pointers here save me looking it up!

    3. mister sister, I can pretty much promise that Rebecca Kimbel would fill in any "missing links" between any of the groups. Even in her wackiness, I admire that she is always ready to out any of her relatives--in any branch of fundies. Irene always seems to me like she would fall right back pretty easily.

    4. I have some stuff in one general FTM file. Mostly what I have in the actual FTM file right now is on the FLDS and Warren Jeffs' ancestry and those of his wives. I'm hoping to eventually add more of what I have to the file. I can say, yes, they all do fall into the same gene pool very quickly. And the very nature of polygamy has meant that they are all way closer to each other than meets the eye, so many of them are practically siblings without actually being siblings. Yikes.

    5. Yes, she's a good source. And I've given her info!
I do genealogy as a hobby so I look for source info too. Utah has to be the harest nut to crack of the entire U.S. I have the Brown family finished except for one little line or so I think.
The problem is, a gen bug never thinks it's good enough, even if you have 1000 pages, you are always looking and adding. How to place it on here is an issue. I can't put a tree like folks think. It's far too large! I may put it on another site and link it to here.

    6. I started with a tree a couple years ago, and the branches got too tangled by the second-third generation to decipher.

  52. I don't want to watch sex scenes but I do not know why the Browns refuse to say anything even general about this crucial topic except to humiliate wife #4 over details nobody wants to hear about her sex life pre-Kody. Janelle did make an ick-factor joke about them wanting to see Kody in tight pants. Perhaps she knows this is a ratings issue.

The wives yammer a lot about the suffering of polygamy but that it makes them better people with better relationships (and of course, they think they are going to be rewarded in plyg heaven). However, they won't specify sexual jealousy, acknowledge loss of intimacy with their husband due to sharing him, will not reveal if there is a schedule. The wives go on & on & on about their problems with their relationships with each other but leave out this crucial major issue of what their husband hopping from bed to bed does to them.

I do recall Kody saying birth control was entirely up to the wives. In the polygamy books I read, in some of the groups, the husband never has sexual relations with a woman after menopause because she can't produce more children. I assumed the Browns to be more liberal and modern but after the 'keep sweet' crap lecture to an unhappy teenage daughter and the beyond ridiculous Robyn episode during their fake church day, my tolerance is waning...

    1. "In the polygamy books I read, in some of the groups, the husband never has sexual relations with a woman after menopause because she can't produce more children." Just one of many ways that polygamy as practiced in Mormon-based sects devalues women, but oh my god, that observation just makes me want to weep.

I'm a post-menopausal woman with a tender and wonderful sex life with my husband, whom I love like the sun and the moon. I cannot FATHOM what sort of pain this kind of setting-aside would do to a woman. How despicable.

    2. Oh ho, methinks the Kodester is sweating great big bullets! I can just picture him hearing about this TLC special and doing the patented Kody Brown whip-your-head-around move. Say whuh??

Sorry, Robyn, but you're about to a)lose a McMansion or b)gain a sister wife. (Unless one of y'all catch preggers with about 8 kids at once. That would also get you an extra season, I reckon.)

    My vote in order:

  68. If this family clicks with the viewers the Kodster and his wives may quickly find themselves out of a job (and out of their 4 McMansions much sooner than they anticipated). If I were any of the Browns I'd be scared. Very scared.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Lets not take any credit away from the Browns themselves. Their demise is their OWN doing. Its because of their greed, lies, and attitude of entitlement. They have been on the way out long before this announcement was made and Sobbin's scary fireside chat put the last stamp on it. We don't need a replacement show to know that.

They use people and treat their "fans" like crap. I think the only thing that new business partner has taught them is how to "drop ship". That's why they aren't getting their orders out, they don't have the items and have no control. They order it from China after they get the order and it ships from the manufacturer in China. Its cheap crap and anyone can get into the "business" just as easily and take advantage of people.

    ReplyDelete
  70. The problem with Sister Wives is it never gives any vignettes into their lives. With the Duggars, for instance, we get to see them having friends over or go to the zoo, both of which could be pretty boring topics. We watch them get ready, we get to hear individual kids give their perspectives on pretty routine things. It's interesting.

With the Browns, we don't get any of that normalcy. Even when the Duggars were in China, you still got to see them be normal - trying the street food, seeing the little boys run along the Great Wall, etc. I would love to see the Browns paint a room, go to the grocery store, doing their homework, going to a wrestling match, etc. We got a small glimpse into their actual dysfunctional family dynamic at Logan's graduation. I'd like to see more of that.
