In 2011, the Sister Wives Blog started out as a place to talk about the TLC reality show "Sister Wives", Kody Brown and his wives Christine, Robyn, Meri and Janelle. A year later, we not only discuss the show, we discuss Polygamy in our society, and the public perceptions of the Mormon religion. This blog is geared towards the adult reader, so please, no one under the age of 18 years. Thank you!
Wow, that was a sad promo. This looks like a real bummer to watch, and that's the promo!
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's why they aren't promoting it. They were everywhere when the show was about how normal and happy and perfect they are.
Looks like their new companion show is called "Obese and Expecting." :O *insert joke here*
DeleteWow, Jinx, you really presented a buffet of stuff here. Thx.
ReplyDeleteIt all looked so happy and somewhat *interesting* back then.
Fast-forward to what we all now know about the bankruptcies, the food stamps, the phony flights out of state from the law, the leaving of jobs (what jobs?), wife #1 wanting a wife #4, the "businesses" that have come and gone, tweets that contradict themselves, the lawsuit against the state of Utah, depressed wives, depressed/angry kids, four monthly rentals, the new tease of an in-house surrogacy.....
And at this point....marketing and MORE marketing of themselves via any tech or media method possible.....now including a book about how happy they are.
And by the looks and sound of this premiere trailer...*not* so happy anymore...and definitely not so interesting.
And let's not dare forget about their oft-mentioned * Finite Funds * in all this circus of activity.
This was about the saddest trailer of any show I've seen in a long time. But remember how last year's trailer had Janelle yelling bull? And during the season, we never saw what she was talking about? I'm getting the same feeling here that most of what we are seeing is bs, and what we'll see on tv will be more of the we are happy, happy happy joy joy family isn't Robyn wonderful bs from before.
Delete"I'm getting the same feeling here that most of what we are seeing is bs, and what we'll see on tv will be more of the we are happy, happy happy joy joy family isn't Robyn wonderful bs from before."
DeleteAbsolutely, I agree.....!!!
Makes you feel sort of "played" if you even take the time to watch. But at least SWB can be voice of calling it for what it is...bs !!! And that can be amusing, thanks to SWB !!! :)))
sorry CJ it was robyn yelling bull crap.. and slapping her thigh.. like a two year old...
DeleteActually, it was Robyn who yelled Bull. The thing is that it obviously happened, TLC just didn't put it in in the actual episode. So, all this happened, it's just whether or not we will see it in the episode.
ReplyDeleteThanks Anon 4:03 and 6:02 for pointing out it was Robyn and not Janelle who yelled!
DeleteAlso, what is Christine saying at the very end of the promo when she is crying?
ReplyDeleteI want to know too! It SOUNDED LIKE "I don't let anyone in who hits/hurts me." But I think only "I don't let anyone in..." is right and I'm wrong on the rest.
DeleteSounded like "I don't let people in - I let him in.". Wow that was so sad it was hard to watch again.
Delete "I don't let people in - I let him in.". Heart-wrenching.
DeleteYep, I call bs too!! What we see now, most likely we won't get on the premiere day!! Definitely, this promo does contradict all of their happy & in love tweets, etc....
ReplyDeleteChristine will prolly tweet on the day of the premiere, that she was a whiny, poopy pants during the filming, but everything is all sunshine & daisies now :/
I wonder if they're planning to have a live chat on their FB fan page the day of the premiere or maybe even in 2 days, when their book releases??
Kody really lets himself off the hook..he doesn't have to work on his problems with Christine, he can just take of for another wife's house and let problems fester.
ReplyDeleteIn the bedroom scene, where Christine was tryna reach out to Kody saying, she feels that he doesn't want to be w/ her....Kody is very insensitive & just has a "look" on his face, turns around & walks out of the room, w/o even trying to comfort, or reassure Christine that yes, he loves her & wants to be w/ her.
ReplyDeleteSo, I wonder if he did that bcuz the camera crew was there & didn't want them to capture the real kody brown temper & the way he handles his wives or what. Something tells me that when the camera crew was gone, he lashed out at her & probably scolding her saying, how dare U make me look bad..., blah, blah,blah....
I still say, in her recent photos, her eyes just look sad & there's a lot of pain behind the fake & forced smile.
Bottom line, she's a big girl & she chose to live this lifestyle & she can still choose to leave if she's really that unhappy. If she continues to stay & hash it out & she remains unhappy, then really it's no one's fault but her own. The reason, I'm saying this is bcuz they all have reminded America that each of them are consenting adults that have chosen to live this lifestyle, so it's hard for me to have a lot of compassion for someone, who doesn't want to help themselves for the better.
But if she is suffering a clinical depression, not to mention not getting the treatment she needs in terms of therapy and medications, then I think everyone needs to cut her a lot more slack than that.
DeleteChristine made the predicament she's in and she has chosen to appear on a reality show. Why should anyone cut her slack for her own choices? She's an adult and she knows she has problems. In fact last season she said she was weaning herself off her meds! If she has chosen to ignore getting professional help, that's her problem. Again, why should anyone enable her behavior by cutting her more slack?
DeleteEven in those 5 second in the promo, that looks like real pain. I feel for her because being a whiny poopy pants (justified or not!) pushes her man to someone else's house, which sounds awful. I can't even imagine. If she were my sister (or my sister wife, I guess), I would be on her 24/7 until she got some help or got out of whatever is causing this.
DeleteBut... They are adults, and they chose this, blah blah, and they're here get over it, I know. I still feel bad for Christine because what choices does she have now? She's the public face of polygamy.
I don´t think that it is that easy. If she really has a depression, she´s probably not able to "choose" anything at the moment.
DeleteAnd even if thats not the case, I would be pretty hopeless beeing in her shoes.
She has 6 kids, no job, no friends (besides her other brainwashed sisterwives if you want to call them friends) and probably not a good education either. It would take a lot of strength to get out of this situation which she obviously doesn´t have.
Anon 11:32, because I do not want to see a suicide portrayed on a reality show.
DeleteI think Kody has a temper when the cameras aren't around. A couple times on the show if he is countered or disagreed with he gets a mean look in his eyes
Delete"Christine will prolly tweet on the day of the premiere, that she was a whiny, poopy pants during the filming, but everything is all sunshine & daisies now"
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more! What we are seeing now is a few choice "dramatic" scenes which, when aired in an episode, will be immediately followed by a family couch interview scene whereby they assure their audience that those moments were just irrational lapses in their otherwise blissful polygamous marriage. Christine will probably say something like, "I just had a jealous, needy moment and have learned to overcome my "rough edges" (through upping my meds) - that's why I love polygamy SO MUCH! You just wouldn't have the same opportunity to become a better (emotionally dead) person in a monogamous relationship would you?!"
I recall an episode last season when Christine discussed her jealousy issues with Robyn - she said "I don't do relationships very well" - referring to interacting with her sister wives and I'm assuming relationships in general.
ReplyDeleteConsidering her lack of comfort with relationships, and the fact that she has only ever wanted to be a third wife, it's starting to seem that Christine wouldn't even know how to maintain a serious, loving, monogamous relationship with one man even if she had to.
If she isn't being goofy, if she isn't the third, final and "fun" wife, she has no idea who she is.
Kody was initially the perfect match for her because his goofy, immature, personality allowed her to live in la-la land where serious feelings and connections could be avoided. With Robyn in the picture, her place as the goofy, fun wife are over and she can't handle the serious (and natural) emotions she finds herself having. She feels unloved, unattended, and second-rate - emotions she can't just joke away anymore.
With the emotional capacity of a teaspoon, Kody is not the kind of man who could ever bring serious comfort to Christine. The result; anti-depressants, a lot of "I'm working on my rough edges," and just another statistic to add to the lengthy list of unhappy polygamous wives. (not to mention a totally unsatisfactory TV show)
My fantasy would be for Christine to have some sort of emotional breakthrough, where she realizes that any "religion" that requires women to suppress God-given emotions just can't be true - and that she and her children deserve more. She leaves Kody, writes a tell-all book (for realsies) and goes on to become an advocate for helping ex-polygamist wives transition into a better life. I'm just dreaming though....
Great comment and yes, hoping Christine does just that. That would be the book to buy!
DeleteIt still appears that each wife, including now, Robyn, has a personality niche/role that they have been assigned or they have assigned to themselves for the storylines, for the show's continuing saga.
ReplyDeleteChristine's role seems to be the emotionally fragile role.
Is it true?? Or is it simply a hook to begin this season for the show?
Is this trailer about Christine simply a TLC driven tease for the audience?
One that will, as Caramel Brownie said, be pooh-hooed away as being just a bad day. Only they know.
It is hard to believe that TLC would film an emotionally floundering mother of six (for two seasons now) who was not in treatment of some kind.
But that is exactly what TLC (and KodyWorld) hopes...folks will tune in to see.
Wow that promo is pretty sad to watch. Kody is such a d-bag! And Meri's comment you have to look inward. Whatttever.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for Christine.
Ok, I'm not completely heartless, & I do realize that Christine would find it hard to leave w/o having a job or any higher education or training behind her. I researched to see if there are any organizations out there, that help women leave their polygamist family/lifestyle. I came across one located in Utah, called:
ReplyDeleteHolding Out For Help: 1st organization to cover all possible bases in making a new life possible.
801-548-3492
866-517-3632
help@holdingouthelp.org
Are you serious CB? LOL If Christine wants help leaving, all she has to do is post here.
DeleteP.S. I do realize that there are women who have no other choice, and I am glad Holding Out For Help is there for them. Koodos to HOFH
Love this blog! These people drive me nutz.
ReplyDeleteMy pet peeve is how Robyn thinks she is the new fertility goddess. If I have to hear her browbeat the 1st wife one more time about being a surrogate I'm going to barf.Good idea...yet another kid that gets to see daddy for about an hour a week that would have to hear the nauseating story of it's conception every time Robyn could weave it in the conversation.
I just found this blog. How can they afford to look for houses "close" to each other? Where's the $$$ coming from? Kody isn't much of a man!! Doesn't work. Guess he thinks all he has to do is impregnate all the women. Christine just needs to get a backbone and get out!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for this season! Anyone else just want to jump through the screen and give them all hugs and tell them it'll be okay? Maybe I'm just in a good place right now because my kids asleep and my coffee is good...? haha
